JUDITH A. RUSSELL-FRANCIS

Judith A. Russell-Francis, 49, Independence, died Friday, May 22, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Russell-Francis was born May 16, 1949, in Urbana, Mo., and lived in Independence for 30 years. She was co-owner and hair dresser at B & J`s on U.S. 24 and co-owner and hair dresser at LaBelle Salon on 23rd Street. She was a member of the Fort Osage Church of Nazarene in Independence.

Her survivors include her husband of 30 years, Wayne E. Francis Sr. of the home; a son, Wayne E. Francis Jr., Independence; two daughters, Milissa Buxton, Independence, and Danielle Baumgartner, Independence; her mother, Sarah Russell, Oak Grove; three sisters, Eileen Foster, Kansas City, and Donna Russell, Kansas City, and Carol Gorham, Napoleon, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in New Salem cemetery. Visiitation is from 2 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at New Salem Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the K. U. Cancer Center.

MARIE L. GARDNER ELROD WARE

Marie Lois Gardner Elrod Ware, 83, Independence, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Ware was born June 7, 1914, in Harrisburg, Ark., and had lived in St. Louis and Janesville, Wis., before living in Lake City, Ark. She was residing with her daughter in Independence at the time of her death. She was an active member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she served as church hostess, Sunday school teacher and in the women`s department. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene H. Elrod.

Her survivors include her husband, Bill Ware of Lake City, Ark.; her six children, James Elrod, Franklin Elrod and Gary Elrod, all of Janesville, Wis., Lois Shikles, Independence, Robert Elrod, Chicago, Ill., and David M. Elrod, Kansas City; a brother, Cad Gardner, Truman, Ark.; two sisters, Hattie Williams Dudley, Wiener, Ark., and Sylvia Barnes, Truman; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4242 S. Chippendale, Beloit, Wis. Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill cemetery, Janesville. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church. A celebration of family and friends will take place immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials in her name may be made in care of Marilyn Zimmerman, 1123 Lincoln Ave., Beloit, Wis. 53511. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whitcomb Funeral Home, 220 S. Academy St., Janesville.

VIOLET M. WARREN

Violet M. Warren, 72, Blue Springs, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at Truman Medical Center.

Mrs. Warren was born April 30, 1926, in Clarkston, Wash. She had worked in food service for 15 years at Westport High School. She was a member of Plaza Heights Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin H. Warren in 1983.

Her survivors include three sisters, Bertha Kanning, Billings, Mont., Edna Lowe, Chubbuck, Idaho, and Velda Coulter, Blue Springs.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at the chapel.

ROBERT W. ALLEN

Robert William Allen, 71, Independence, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at St. Luke`s Hospital in Kansas City.

Mr. Allen was born Jan. 17, 1927, in Sugar Creek, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a self-employed contractor, and an Army veteran of World War II.

His survivors include his wife of 51 years, Bernice Allen of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ron Boyd, Carmel, Ind., Beverly and Ron Hendrix, Overland Park, Kan., and Becky and Larry Elkins, Independence; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Teresa Allen, Lee`s Summit; two brothers, Raymond Allen, Independence, and Larry Allen, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; three sisters, Lorene Lass and Lois Joy Eaten, both of Sugar Creek, and Margie Rucker, Blue Springs; and seven grandchildren, Brian Boyd, Ann Hendrix, Ronald Hendrix, Jennifer Elkins, Katie Elkins, Christy Allen and Robert Jason Allen.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to UMKC Block Cancer Center or St. Mark`s Catholic Church, 3736 Lee`s Summit Road, Independence, Mo. 64055.

AUBREY L. "TOD" COLE

Aubrey L. "Tod" Cole, 70, Oak Grove, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Cole was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Ocie, Mo. He was a truck driver for Allied Signal for 40 years, retiring in 1989, and was a member of IMAW Local 314. He was baptized into the Tarsney Lake Community Church in 1963.

His survivors include his wife of 48 years, Edith Cole of the home; two sons, Les Cole, Blue Springs, and Roger Cole, Oak Grove; three sisters, Edith Rogers, Ocie, Mae Wiswell, Schaumburg, Ill., and Audrey Watkins, Sparta, Mo.; five grandchildren, Brenda Cole, Kyle Van Holcke, Nathan Frazee, Matthew Cole and Kaylee Cole, all of Oak Grove; and three great-grandchildren, Edie Cole of the home, and Charley Cole and Robert Cole, both of Oak Grove; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

CHARLES D. "DEE" CONRAD

Charles Devere "Dee" Conrad of Oak Grove, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Conrad was a tool design and engineer at Litton Industries before he retired. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kansas City for 50 years, serving as a deacon and on the Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Kansas City Ararat Shrine and Grain Valley Masonic Lodge 644.

His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Nina Jean Conrad; one son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Rhonda Conrad; one daughter and son-in-law, Glenna Dee and John Brown; and two grandsons, John Patrick Brown and Nathan DeVere Conrad.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, 100 W. Red Bridge Road. The family suggests contributions to St. Mary`s Hospice of Blue Springs, in care of Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Mo. 64601.

VIRGINIA P. DOWELL

Virginia P. Dowell, 80, Independence, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Dowell was born Feb. 27, 1918, in Brunswick, Mo. She was a member of Sheffield Family Life Center.

Her survivors include her husband, Donald L. Dowell of the home; a daughter, Vivian Rogers, Blue Springs; a sister, Gertrude Owen, Independence; two brothers, Arthur Gates, Independence, and Leonard Gates, Raytown; four granddaughters, Kimberly Paroli, Rebecca Henry, Patty Earley and Michelle Lutzen; and five great-grandchildren, Kallina Flowers, Kara Flowers, Brenna Paroli, Jacob Earley and Aaron Henry.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

CHARLES A. ELLIOTT

Charles Allen Elliott, 59, Lone Jack, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Elliott was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Carrollton, Mo., and had lived in Oak Grove/Lone Jack area for his entire life. He was employed with Trabon Paris Printing Co., and had been a craftsman printing pressman for 41 years.

His survivors include his wife, Betty Elliott, a daughter, Anita Elliott, both of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Phyllis Elliott, Blue Springs; his mother, Glapha Elliott, Oak Grove; three brothers, Donald Elliott, Grandview, Joe Elliott, Odessa, and John Elliott, Blue Springs; two sisters, Louise Henderson, Springfield, Mo., and Mavis Oksa, Plano, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Shore cemetery, south of Bates City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Royer Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Carondelet Hospice, 201 West R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs, Mo. 64015.

ALBERT J. SEMLER

Albert J. Semler, 74, Raymore, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Research Belton Hospital.

Mr. Semler was born May 8, 1924, in Odessa, Mo., and had lived in

Independence for 30 years, moving to Raymore five years ago. He was a mechanic for the Chrysler Corp. for more than 30 years, retiring in 1989. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Raymore.

His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Margaret Semler of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Anna and John Caoile, Raymore; and one sister, Anna Leone Anson, Blackburn, Mo.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore. Burial will be in Greenton cemetery, Odessa.

VICTOR R. REES

Victor Ross Rees, 42, Buckner, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at the Veteran Administration Medical Center in Kansas City.

Mr. Rees was born April 10, 1956, in Kansas City, and had lived in Buckner for almost five years. He was a machine operator for the Union Pacific Railroad, and an Army veteran.

His survivors include his mother, Irene Rees, Buckner; three sons, Gordon Rees, Independence, Jason Jackson, Kansas City, and Pete Holly, Bates City; two daughters, Nakia Rees, Wellington, Mo., and Sabrina Holly, Independence; two brothers, Thomas E. Rees, Alabama, and Garry Rees of the home; one sister, Donna Rees, Florence, Mo.; and one granddaughter, Erinn May Jackson.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Brown Funeral Home, Buckner. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

JACK WILLIAMS

Jack Williams, 83, Kansas City, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Truman Medical Center West.

He was born Sept. 16, 1916, in Kansas City, Kan. He has lived in the greater Kansas City area all of his life. He was a stationary engineer for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #6 for 50 years. He had also worked for many years with Starlight Theatre and the Salvation Army.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Ann N. Williams, of the home; two nephews, Charles Chaffee of Lake Tapawingo, and Dan Chaffee of Independence; three great-nieces and two great-nephews; and four great-great nieces and two great-great nephews.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel; burial at Mt. Olivet cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel.

PAMELA J. "PJ" COOPER

Pamela Jo "PJ" Cooper, 50, Lee`s Summit, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at the Lee`s Summit Hospital.

She was born April 25, 1948, in Springfield, Mo., and had lived in this area most of her life. Until 1992, she had been the executive director and volunteer for Hope House, having served for seven years. She was currently the co-founder and corporate secretary for Humanity United Global Evolution. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherri J. Allin in 1970.

Her survivors include a son, Jason C. Grabb, West Plains, Mo.; two daughters, Dee Dee C. Ellis, Blue Springs, and Kerri Sue Allin, Lee`s Summit; her mother, Juanita M. Cooper, Independence; two sisters, Carol Sue Robertson, Oak Grove, and Sherri Keithley, Independence; two half brothers, James Vernon Mullins Jr., and Jeff Mullins, both of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, Amber, Raychael, Ronnie, Che, Kelsi; and her fiance, Al Sillo, Chicago, Ill.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Unity Village School of Christianity, Lee`s Summit. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to HUGE, in care of Bill Klug, 736 Erringer Road, Simi Valley, Calif. 93065.

RAY BRESHEARS

Ray Breshears, 88, Weaubleau, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at Cox South Hospital, Springfield, Mo.

Mr. Breshears was born April 10, 1910, in Avery, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area in the late 1950s and early 1960s before moving to Weaubleau 30 years ago. He had worked for Havens Steel Co., Kansas City. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, Wheatland, Mo.

His survivors include his wife, Fratie Breshears, and a son, Alfred Breshears, both of Weaubleau; a daughter, Wilma Beck, Independence; a brother, Cebert Breshears, Ennis, Texas; a sister, Doris Herbst, El Dorado Springs, Mo.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home, Wheatland. Entombment will be in Avery, Mo. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

ZELLA V. ELLIOTT

Zella Vivian Elliott, 79, Independence, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, in Independence.

Mrs. Elliott was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Decatur, Neb., and had lived in Independence since 1951. She was active in the PTA and church for many years. She volunteered in several community activities, including teaching English as a second language and helping in a shelter for abused women. Her husband, Victor Harlan Elliott, died in 1992.

Her survivors include four children, Donald, Fred, Glen and Duane Elliott; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Sunday in The Groves Community Room, 1515 W. White Oak St. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her name to Hope House, P.O. Box 520409, Independence, Mo. 64052.

GLADYS C. "GRANDMA" GUY

Gladys C. "Grandma" Guy, 90, Independence, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Guy was born June 18, 1908, in Macks Creek, Mo., and had lived in this area most of her life. She retired as a clerk in the linens buyers office of Macy`s. She was a member of the River Boulevard Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse A. Guy Sr., on April 19, 1974.

Her survivors include a son, Allen Guy, a daughter, Linda Boatman, and a brother, Milford H. "Bud" Young, all of Independence; a sister, Opal Davenport, Roswell, Ga.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 9 a.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the River Boulevard Baptist Church, 3212 N. River Blvd., Independence, Mo. 64050.

MILBERN C. LUTJEN

Milbern C. Lutjen, 73, Independence, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Lutjen was born June 30, 1925, in Cole Camp, Mo., and had lived most of his adult life in Independence. He and his wife of 47 years, the late Jean Lutjen, owned and operated Jean`s Educational Centers Inc., which is in its 40th year of operation. He also worked for Ford Motor Co. Claycomo Plant for 25 years, retiring in 1975, and was a member of the United Auto Workers. He was also a member of St. Paul`s Lutheran Church.

His survivors include two daughters, Desiree Tyrrell, Lee`s Summit, and Bonnie Knox, Independence; two sons, Rickey J. Lutjen, Blue Springs, and Jerry D. Lutjen, Independence; a sister, Evelyn Harris, Grandview; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul`s Lutheran Church, 17200 East 39th St. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Arthritis Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
