JOHN W. ARTH

John William Arth, 57, Odessa, died Thursday, July 2, at his home. Services wil be at 11 a.m Tuesday, July 7, in the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grover. Burial will be in the Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Royer Chapel.

Mr. Arth was born Aug. 3, 1940 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Edwin Gerald and Myra Virginia (Hayes) Arth. He married Marjorie M. Johnson Sept. 25, 1965. They lived in Oak Grove until moving to Odessa in 1987. He retired in 1996, having served as an employee of Jackson County Ready Mix since 1972.

Mr. Arth was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of the home; one son, Chad D. Arth, Odessa; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deboarah Jean and Troy Kerchoff and Janet Marie and Terry Stebbins, all of Odessa; one step-son and daughter-in-law Gerald Lee and Melissa Barker, Independence; a brother Jim Arth, Blue Springs; three sisters, Virginia Middleton, Holden, and Mary Thomas and Carol Nebgen, both of Oak Grove; and eight grandchildren.

All arrangements are under the direction of the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.

WILFORD PAUL DINSMORE

Wilford P. Dinsmore, 87, formerly of Hale, Mo., died Thursday, July 2, 1998, in Hedrick Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 23, 1910, the son of Grover and Susan Leech Dinsmore, in Nodaway County, Mo. He graduated from Maysville High School, Maysville, Mo., in 1928. On April 16, 1933, he married Lucile Colton, Hale, Mo. She preceded him in death Oct. 3, 1993.

Mr. Dinsmore was a farmer. He was a member of the Hale United Methodist Church, the Hale Lions Club, the American Angus Breeder Association and a 4-H leader. He lived in the Avalon and Tina communities from 1933 to 1954, when he moved to Illinois and Ohio. There he was a cattle herdsman and feeder operations manager until 1972. He lived in Hale from 1972 until 1994 when he moved to the Morningside Center, Chillicothe.

He is survived by one son, Jerry Dinsmore and wife Alberta, Independence; five daughters, Ellen Robison and husband Bill, Buda, Ill.; Carol Icenogle and husband David, Auburn, Ala.; Jean Masters and husband Irvin, Galesburg, Ill; Marjorie DeVilbiss and husband Larry, Kettering, Ohio; Nancy Puccio and husband Dominic, Rochester, N.Y.; two brothers, John Dinsmore, Meadville, Mo.; and Lloyd Dinsmore, Tulsa, Okla.; three sisters, Clara Sample, St. Joseph, Mo.; Marjorie Kelly, Hannibal, Mo.; and Mary Coffey, Denver, Colo; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-granchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday July 6, 1998 at the Hale United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday July 6 at the Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Mo. Burial will be in the Van Horn Cemeteray, Tina, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hale United Methodist Church.

All arrangements are under the direction of the Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Mo.

JAMES E. "JIM" JONES

James E. "Jim" Jones, Independence, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Jones was born June 19, 1930, near Shell Lake, Wisconsin. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post 1000 and Laborers Local 264.

His survivors include his wife of 45 years, Irene Jones, Independence; two sons, Jim Jones Jr., Independence, and George Jones, Blue Springs; two daughters, Gail M. Comer, Grain Valley, and Patricia Fischer, Lebanon, Mo.; a brother, George Jones, Duluth, Minn.; a sister, Myra Lindermen, Cumberland, Wis.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Anchor Point Baptist Church, 25501 E. Bundschu Road, and Missouri 7.

Arrangements are under the direction of George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

JOHN J. SEWARD

John Junior Seward, 69, Oak Grove, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Seward was born March 4, 1929, near Butler, Bates County, Mo., and had lived in Lone Jack for 30 years before moving to Oak Grove. He was a member of the Worldwide Chruch of God. He had been an employee of the Rival Manufacturing Co., in Warrensburg, Mo., for the past 10 years. He also farmed.

His survivors include his wife of 46 years, Cassie M. Seward of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and David Baker, Oregon, Mo.; two sons and daughter-in-law, David and Amy Seward, Oak Grove, and Matthew Seward of the home; a brother, Elmer Floyd Seward, Butler, Mo.; four sisters, Marie Bartlett and Beulah May Seward, both of Butler; Rosy May Dever, Sheridan, Wyo.; and Mamie Snyder, Faulkton, S.D.; and, a grandson, Duane Baker.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Butler, where graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel.

All arrangements are under the direction of Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.

MARY C. WARD

Mary Catherine Moore Ward, Independence, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Ward was born Oct. 19, 1921, in Boonville, Mo., and had lived in Pilot Grove, Mo., and Kansas City before moving to Independence. She was a graduate of Northeast High School. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher and was a member on the memorial committee at church. She served as a board member and room mother at Benton Elementary School and William Chrisman High School.

Her survivors include her husband of 51 years, John Ward; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patty A. Brown, Independence, Cathy C. and Jim Shull, Odessa, and Joni L. and Jurel McCracken Jr., Blue Springs; two brothers, Richard D. Moore, Blue Springs, and Lee R. Moore, Independence; and seven grandchildren, Douglas W. Brown, David W. Brown, Darrin W. Brown, Christina L. Brown, Amanda W. Shull, Joshua B. McCracken and Jessica L. McCracken; and five great-grandchildren, Matthew J. Brown, Danielle W. Brown, Jared W. Brown, Zachary A. Brown and Erika M. Barown.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1915 N. Liberty, Independence. Internment will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Calvary Baptist Church Memorial Fund.

TIMOTHY N. "TIM" TOILLION

Timothy N. "Tim" Toillion, 54, Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

His survivors include his mother, Geneva M. Toillion, and four daughters, Kimberly L. Toillion, Amy R. Toillion, Faith L. Webb, and Hope M. Miller, all of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Patricia D. Toillion and Nancy Johnson; and seven grandchildren.

Services were Saturday at Charter Funerals/Northland Chapel, Gladstone, Mo. The family suggests contributions to the Midwest Organ Bank, 1900 W. 47th Place, Suite 400, Westwood, Kan. 66205.

IRENE PINE

Irene Pine, 85, Independence, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Pine was born Dec. 18, 1913, in Harper, Kan., and had lived in this area since 1933. Before retiring she had worked as a bookkeeper for The Adams Dairy, The Bordon Co., The Hiland Dairy and the Belfonte Ice Cream Co., for a total of 30 years. She was a member of Birchwood Baptist Church and had taught Sunday school for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Pine in 1982, and a son, Kenneth V. Voge Jr. in 1993.

Her survivors include a son, Larry J. Voge, Independence; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Services were today at Newcomer Floral Hills Chapel. Burial was in Floral Hills cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her name to the building fund of Country Meadows Baptist Church, 4901 Lee's Summit Road, Independence, Mo. 64055.

ARCHIE R. BLEDSOE

Archie R. Bledsoe, 67, Nelson, Mo., died Friday, June 12, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Bledsoe was born July 14, 1930, in Jefferson City, Mo. He was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church in Marshall Junction, Mo. He was a retired farmer and operated the Nelson Hardware Store from 1983 to 1988. He was a member of Arrow Rock Masonic Lodge No. 55. He served in the Missouri National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve.

His survivors include his wife, Evelyn M. Crank, of the home; five sons, Ralph L. Bledsoe, Bolivar, Mo., Ronald D. Bledsoe, Miami, Mo., Raymond L. Bledsoe, Blackwater, Mo., and Rick D. Bledsoe and Robert D. Bledsoe, both of Nelson; one daughter, Diana Crouch, rural Marshall, Mo.; one brother, Howard E. Bledsoe, Slater, Mo.; one sister, Katherine Fisher, Independence; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Burial will be in Slater City cemetery, Slater, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. The family suggests memorials to the New Salem Baptist Church.

RICHARD S. MARKO

Richard Stephen Marko, 62, Blue Springs, died Friday, June 12, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Marko was born Nov. 9, 1935, in Brush, Colo. He was an electronic engineer for the Federal Aviation Administration before he retired. He had also worked for the Paston Wood Co. He was formerly was a councilman for West Liberty, Iowa, and a Navy veteran. He was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs, and the Lee`s Summit Wood Guild, was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, attended the University of Wyoming, and was a CTI graduate.

His survivors include his wife, Connie Marko of the home; his mother, Mildred Marko, Cheyenne, Wyo.; three daughters, Lisa Marko, Kansas City, Karen Moffett, Olathe, Kan., and Susan Obar, Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, David Marko, Los Angeles, and Eric Marko, New York City; five sisters, Elaine Briggs, Caribou, Maine, Rosemary Delo, Cheyenne, Kay Reybrock, Burke, Va., Christine Shinmori, Douglas, Wyo., and Marian Whiting, Seattle; two brothers, Gene Marko, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Robert Marko, Cheyenne; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs, where the rosary will be said at 2 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the building fund at the church.

ELLICE SERSHEN

Ellice Sershen, 89, Independence, died Friday, June 12, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Sershen was born Feb. 20, 1909, in Henderson, Ne. She lived in Pomona, Calif., for most of her life, and had lived in this area since 1989. She was a member of the Glendale Restoration Branch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Sershen, in 1965.

Her survivors include four daughters, Barbara Hacker, and her husband, Dick, of the home, Shirlene McCue, and her husband, Danny, Blue Springs, Rita Bailey, and her husband, Roger, Reno, Nev., and Lucille Campbell, and her husband, George, San Dimas, Calif.; one son, Richard Sershen, and his wife, Shirley, Sun City, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, at Speaks Midtown Chapel in Independence. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the chapel.

EVERETT L. WOODRING

Everett Lee Woodring, 83, Blue Springs, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Woodring was born March 31, 1915, in Lone Tree, Mo., and lived in Denver, before returning to Missouri in 1995. As a young man, he was a rancher and carpenter in Colorado.

His survivors include a brother, Ernest Woodring, La Junta, Colo.; four sisters, Wilma Wills, Denver, Thelma Stancer and Faye Steele, both of Fort Scott, Kan., and Fern Keele, Lee`s Summit; 11 nephews; five nieces; and many great-nephews and nieces.

Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

VIOLA F. COUCH

Viola Faye Marshall Couch, 96, Lee`s Summit, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at Lee`s Summit Community Hospital.

Mrs. Couch was born in Mountain View, Mo., and lived in North Branch, Kan., and Lancaster, Mo., before moving to Lee`s Summit in 1984. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by her husband, P.E. Couch in 1971, and a daughter, Mary Plotner in 1989.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Leland and Glenys Marshall, Lee`s Summit; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

BRIANNA L. KAVANAUGH

Brianna Lea Kavanaugh, 4-month-old daughter of Brian and Betty Luft Kavanaugh of Independence, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

Brianna was born Feb. 7, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

Her survivors also include five sisters, Catherine Salisbury, Lori Salisbury and Becky Salisbury, all of Independence, and Renee Kavanaugh, and her twin sister, Brigitte Kavanaugh, both of the home; and her paternal grandparents, William and Rose Mary Kavanaugh, and her maternal grandparents, Richard and Lucy Luft, all of Independence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be private. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

ROBERT G. TYREE

Robert G. Tyree, 60, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Tyree was born May 28, 1938, in Thayer, Mo., and had attended Thayer High School. He was an insurance broker with Robert G. Tyree Agency Inc., and had worked for 30 years with Frisco Railroad and Kansas City Terminal Railway. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

His survivors include his wife, Teresa L. Tyree of the home; three children, Lynne Johnson, Little Rock, Ark., Scott Tyree, Chicago, and David Tyree, Everett, Wash.; four sisters, Neva Hefner, Independence, Eva Paulsen, Thayer, and Trvea Atkins and Rita Turner, both of Mammoth Springs, Ark.; and two grandchildren, Haley Johnson and Aaron Johnson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Carter Funeral Home, Thayer. Burial will be in Thayer City cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

LINDSAY L. WARD

Memorial services for Lindsay Lee Ward, 44, of Ocean Springs, Miss., formerly of the area, who died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, in Biloxi, Miss., will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jackson County Veteran`s Field of Honor at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Grain Valley. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Stanley-Pack Post 499. Friends and family are encouraged to attend.

ROBERT G. TYREE

Robert G. Tyree, 60, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
