FLORA M. BREDEMEIER

Flora M. Bredemeier, 87, Kansas City, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center.

Mrs. Bredemeier was born in Ray County, Mo. She was an assembler for the William Volker Venetian Blinds Co. for 22 years before she retired. She also worked for the Krahenbuhl Brothers Greenhouse. She had been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City since 1942. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ervin Henry Bredemeier.

Her survivors include one daughter, Luetta Buchholz, Independence; two sons, Marvin Bredemeier, Kansas City, and Walter Bredemeier, Carmel, Ind.; one brother, Walter Hesterberg, Norborne, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. The family suggests contributions to the church.

VIOLA F. COUCH

Viola Faye Marshall Couch, 96, Lee`s Summit, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at Lee`s Summit Community Hospital.

Mrs. Couch was born in Mountain View, Mo., and lived in North Branch, Kan., and Lancaster, Mo., before moving to Lee`s Summit in 1984. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by her husband, P.E. Couch in 1971, and a daughter, Mary Plotner in 1989.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Leland and Glenys Marshall, Lee`s Summit; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

KENNETH C. DUDLEY

Kenneth C. Dudley, 82, Independence, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Dudley was born Jan. 27, 1916, in Calwood, Mo., and grew up in Auxvasse, Mo. He graduated from Auxvasse High School and attended Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. He worked for the

General Motors Fairfax assembly plant for 26 years, retiring in 1975. He had also been a manager for Kroger food stores in St. James, Mo., and in other Missouri towns, from 1937 to 1943. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church, and attended Birchwood Baptist Church. He was interested in steam and gas powered engines, including locomotives and antique cars.

His survivors include his wife of 37 years, Gladys Eileen Dudley of the home; a daughter, Sharon K. Swaney, Idaho Falls, Idaho; a sister, Doris Bunch, Lee`s Summit; two grandchildren, Evan and Robyn Swaney; and eight nieces and nephews.

Services were June 11 at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial was in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

IRVIN F. ELLIOTT

Irvin Frank Elliott, 77, Independence, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Elliott was born Oct. 23, 1920, in Brunswick, Maine. He was a postal worker before he retired in 1975. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of New Hope Christian Church, Eastgate Masonic Lodge 630 and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was past president and editor of The Nu-Voice Club newsletter.

His survivors include his wife of 49 years, Marilyn Elliott of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Margie and David Bass, Independence; one son, David Elliott, California; two grandsons, Shannon Bass and Ryan Bass; four sisters; and three brothers.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church, 5704 Norfleet. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

BRIANNA L. KAVANAUGH

Brianna Lea Kavanaugh, 4-month-old daughter of Brian and Betty Luft Kavanaugh of Independence, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

Brianna was born Feb. 7, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

Her survivors also include five sisters, Catherine Salisbury, Lori Salisbury and Becky Salisbury, all of Independence, and Renee Kavanaugh, and her twin sister, Brigitte Kavanaugh, both of the home; and her paternal grandparents, William and Rose Mary Kavanaugh, and her maternal grandparents, Richard and Lucy Luft, all of Independence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be private. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday

at the chapel.

DORIS N. SHUPE

Doris N. Shupe, 88, Independence, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Shupe was born Feb. 4, 1910, in Charleroi, Pa., and had lived in Denver most of her life, moving to Independence 17 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burrell R. Shupe in 1989.

Her survivors include two sons, David B. Shupe, Loveland, Colo., and Bruce I. Shupe, Denver; one daughter, Elaine Elefson, Independence; four brothers, Ralph Coven, Albert Coven, Elmer Coven and Richard Coven, and one sister, Genevieve Dow, all of Denver; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. July 10 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army or Outreach International.

WAYNE E. SIMMONS

Wayne Emerson Simmons, 83, Buckner, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Simmons was born Feb. 6, 1915, in Far West, Mo., and spent his youth in Cameron, Mo. He graduated from Cameron High School in 1933 and the Inter-County Junior College in 1935. He was a teacher in several Missouri schools before going to work for Standard Oil of New Jersey (ESSO) in Aruba, Dutch West Indies. During World War II, he worked on the refinery`s new catalytic cracking tower for the production of aviation gasoline in Aruba. He wrote the first training manual for local employees of the refinery and spent 1945-46 teaching this apprentice program.

He completed his degree, cum laude, at the Kansas City University in 1948. After graduation, he was a principal of the American Lincoln School of San Jose, Costa Rica, under the auspices of the Inter-American School Service. In 1949, he accepted the directorship of the Cultural Center, Centro Venezuelano-Americano, in Caracas, Venezuela.

As a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ, he accepted an appointment as the church`s first Spanish speaking missionary in 1950. During the following 27 years, he served in the office of elder, seventy, president of seventy, high priest and patriarch. He has also served in various domestic areas as well as assignments on the northern border of Mexico and in Mexico City. As a missionary, he traveled in South America, Central America and Mexico. In recent years, he supported the Restoration Branches of the RLDS church. He was the author of numerous teaching materials for missionary work and articles in the Herald. He was preceded in death by a son, Gareth Wayne in

1965 killed while serving in the Peace Corps.

His survivors include his wife of 60 years, Verneil Newcom Simmons of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Neil and Judy Simmons, Arlington, Texas, and Dana and Eugenia Simmons, McAllen, Texas; a sister, Marjorie Vollers, Cameron; five grandchildren, Tanya Bausback, Marla Trahern, Kenneth Simmons, Tara Simmons and Wayne Allen Simmons; six great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.

Burial services will be at Delano cemetery, Cameron, through the Poland-Thompson Funeral Home. Family graveside service will be Saturday. The family suggests contributions in his name to the Latin American Mission Board (L.A.M.B.); the Restoration Seventy, in care of Steven P. Schultz, 621 E. 23rd St., Independence, Mo. 64055, 836-4700; or the Delano cemetery Board, in care of Carol Shepherd, 541 Park, Osborn, Mo. 64471, 675-2555.

WILLIAM R. STERNS

William Roy Sterns, 77, Independence, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Sterns was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Everett, Wash. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as secretary to the headquarters commandant of the North African Theater of Operations in Algiers, Algeria, and later as chief clerk in the Allied Forces Headquarters in Caserta, Italy, serving 34 months overseas. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

After the war, he attended Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa. He was called to service in 1950 by the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He worked as executive secretary to the Council of Twelve until 1972 when he became World Church secretary and executive assistant to the first presidency until his retirement in 1982. He was minister of music for seven years at the RLDS Stone Church, and was an accomplished tenor soloist and organist in the church and community circles. He was a volunteer in several organizations in the Independence area.

His survivors include his wife, Meurial R. Richardson Stearns of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randall Mark and Grace Stearns, Lenexa, Kan., and Brent Alan and Marilyn Stearns, Raytown; a sister, Laura Davis, Centralia, Washington; and four grandchildren, Drew, Sean, Jacob and Laura.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday at the RLDS Stone Church. The family suggests contributions to the church or the Temple Endowment Fund.

ROBERT G. TYREE

Robert G. Tyree, 60, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Tyree was born May 28, 1938, in Thayer, Mo., and had attended

Thayer High School. He was an insurance broker with Robert G. Tyree Agency Inc., and had worked for 30 years with Frisco Railroad and Kansas City Terminal Railway. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

His survivors include his wife, Teresa L. Lovell Tyree of the home; three children, Lynne Johnson, Little Rock, Ark., Scott Tyree, Chicago, and David Tyree, Everett, Wash.; four sisters, Neva Hefner, Independence, Eva Paulsen, Thayer, and Treva Atkins and Rita Turner, both of Mammoth Springs, Ark.; and two grandchildren, Haley Johnson and Aaron Johnson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Carter Funeral Home, Thayer. Burial will be in Thayer City cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, or to melanoma research only, Mission Office, Suite 100, 5960 Dearborn, Mission, Kan. 66202.

LINDSAY L. WARD

Memorial services for Lindsay Lee Ward, 44, of Ocean Springs, Miss., formerly of the area, who died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, in Biloxi, Miss., will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jackson County Veteran`s Field of Honor at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Grain Valley. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Stanley-Pack Post 499. Friends and family are encouraged to attend.

PEARL COLLINS

Pearl Collins, 86, Kansas City, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Collins was born June 9, 1912, in Meta, Mo., and had been an area resident for more than 50 years, living north of the river for 22 years. She lived in Stockton, Mo., before returning to this area in 1988. She was vice president of the Randy Collins Gasoline Co., and was a member of the Park Hill Baptist Church, Parkville, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph H. Collins in March 1998, and a daughter, Cheryl Ann Collins in 1992.

Her survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Randy Collins, Austin, Texas, and Patrick H. Collins, D.D.S., and his wife, Brenda, of Blue Springs; one brother, Alfred Woody, Kansas City; and two grandchildren, Jessica Collins and Courtney Collins of Blue Springs.

Services were today at the church; cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church. Arrangements were under the direction of the Heritage Funeral Home, Parkville.

WENDELL B. KIRK

Wendall Bland Kirk, 70, Oak Grove, formerly of Odessa, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at the New Haven Nursing Home, Odessa.

Mr. Kirk was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Urbana, Mo., and had lived in Independence, Odessa, Oak Grove, Macks Creek, Mo., before returning to Oak Grove in 1992. He worked at Ford Motor Claycomo Plant as repairman at the end of assembly line and inspector and retired in 1980 after 30 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and Victory Medal, having served in Manila and the Philippines. He served aboard the Norva and Winooski and at Great Lakes Station in Illinois. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bates City.

His survivors include his wife, Raye Dein Kirk of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Julia Kirk, Blue Springs; three daughters and sons-in-law, Christina and Robert Folsom, Sebring, Fla., Carol and Terry Peerson, Odessa, and Warna and Lee Barker, Columbia, Mo.; four brothers, Bill Kirk, Odessa, Rody Kirk, Macon, Mo., Gale Kirk, Chilhowee, Mo., and Fount Junior Kirk, Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Mary Keller, Bates City, and Irene Helphrey, Odessa; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mission Ridge cemetery, south of Urbana, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa.

BESSIE M. RINER

Bessie Mae Riner, 74, Lexington, Mo., died Monday, July 13, 1998, at Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lexington.

Mrs. Riner was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Medford, Mo., and had lived in Buckner before moving to Lexington three years ago.

Her survivors include four sons, Floyd J. Riner, Buckner, Charles E. Riner, Grain Valley, Raymond L. Riner, Buckner, and Brian K. Riner, Lee`s Summit; three daughters, Donna M. Roach, Lee`s Summit, Bonnie F. Brady, Wellington, and Yvonna M. Stapleton, Buckner; three brothers, Lewis Warren, Medford, Mo., Kelly Warren, Warrensburg, Mo., and Larry Warren, Holden, Mo.; three sisters, Martha Everett, Gunn City, Mo., Shirley Wiseman, Centerview, Mo., and Edith Ehlers, Concordia, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Snow Funeral Home, Wellington, Mo. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

NATALIE SMIESZEK

Natalie Smieszek of Kansas City, Kan., died Monday, July 13, 1998.

Mrs. Smieszek was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Poland. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.

Her survivors include one daughter, Helen Barnhart of Blue Springs; and four grandchildren.

Services will be noon Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary`s cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel, Kansas City, where the rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer`s Association.

EDWARD "EDDIE" BEMBOOM

Edward "Eddie" Bemboom, 79, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Bemboom was born Dec. 31, 1918, in Jefferson City, Mo., and had lived in Jefferson City until moving to Independence in 1950. He had been one of the owners of Reb Weld in Independence for 17 years and retired from Jessco, North Kansas City. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Ann's Parish, Independence. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda in 1979.

His survivors include his wife of 59 years, Agnes Bemboom of the home; two sons, Donald Bemboom, Independence, and Bob Bemboom, Grain Valley; a daughter, Linda Stegink, Independence; a brother, Harry Bemboom, Jefferson City; five sisters, Freida Sosnowski, Jamestown, Mo., Bernadine Warner, San Diego, Calif., Louise Burnett, Agnes Newman and Lorretta Siebeneck, all of Jefferson City; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Jefferson City. Burial will be in Wardville, Mo. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Local arrangements are under the direction of George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
