MARVIN W. SANDERS

Marvin W. Sanders, 83, Concordia, Mo., died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg, Mo.

Mr. Sanders was born Feb. 24, 1915, in Green Ridge, Mo., and had lived in Concordia for 47 years. He was a member of the Concordia Baptist Church. He farmed in the Alma and Concordia areas throughout his life.

His survivors include his wife, Leona G. Sanders of the home; four sons, Dale Sanders, Del Rio, Texas, Jerry Sanders and Roger Sanders, both of Concordia, and Melvin Sanders, Oak Grove; two daughters, Joyce Langkrahr, Concordia, and Cheryl Sanders of the home; three sisters, Marguerite Ficken, Concordia, Esther Weller, Louisville, Ky., and Edith Weaver, Salem, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Concordia Baptist Church. Burial will be in Concordia Baptist cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Berg Mortuaries, Concordia Chapel.

WAYNE E. TEMPLETON

Wayne E. Templeton, 68, Independence, died Friday, March 27, 1998.

Mr. Templeton was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Russellville, Mo. He retired from the Missouari Highway Department after 15 years of service. He attended the Sheffield Family Life Center Church in Kansas City. He was preceded in death by two sons, Terry Templeton and Dustin Templeton.

His survivors include his wife of 22 years, Sandy Templeton of the home; three sons, Michaael Templeton, Escondido, Calif., Gary Nelson, Cypress, Calif., and Darryl Nelson, Fountain Valley, Calif.; his mother, Gertrude Templeton, Independence; two brothers, Dorsey Templeton, Colorado Springs, Colo., Allen "Dale" Templeton, Brazito, Mo.; a sister, Patsy "Carlene" McCray, Independence; and several grandchildren.

Services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Weber& Sons Funeral Home, Russellville. Burial will be in Mount Carmel cemetery, Eugene, Mo. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Charter Funerals/Earp & Sons Chapel, 5000 Blue Ridge Cutoff, or call from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Weber & Sons Funeral Home.

DOROTHY M. "DOTTIE" VANSANDT

Dorothy Mae "Dottie" Vansandt, 75, Harrisonville, Mo., died Friday, March 27, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

Mrs. Vansandt was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Sedalia, Mo., and had lived in Sedalia, Knob Noster, Grandview, all in Missouri, and Coronado, Calif., and Archie, Mo., before moving to Harrisonville in 1988. She was Cass County Public Administrator from 1977 through 1992. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Bayard Chapter 179 Order of the Eastern Star, a board member for Cassco Area Workshop, all of Harrisonville. She was also a member of Cass County Central Democratic Committee, Cass County Women`s Democratic Club, Shrine Circus Mom and was named Cass County Democratic Women of the year in 1993. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bliss Vansandt on Dec. 1, 1996.

Survivors include a son, James M. Blaine, Blue Springs; a daughter, Barbara Long, Nevada, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Gaynelle Wells, Seattle, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 today at the United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, Mo. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church memorial fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

DAVID L. STARK SR.

David Lee Stark Sr, 60, Independence, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Stark was born Sept. 17, 1937, in Independence. He worked for the Independence School District.

His survivors include a son, David L. Stark Jr., Independence; two daughters, Michele Hawks, Florence, Mo., and Peggy Mulkey, Greenwood; his mother, Edna Stark, Independence; his children`s mother, Jerry L. Stark, Independence; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Eden Heights RLDS Church, Sea Avenue and Saville Street. Burial is pending at Mound Grove cemetery. Flowers will be received at New Salem Funeral Home.

ONA F. BRICKEY

Ona Fay Brown Brickey, 64, Lone Jack, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at the home of her daughter in Greenwood, Mo.

Mrs. Brickey was born May 27, 1933, in Greenwood, Mo., and had lived in Lone Jack since 1950. She recently returned to Greenwood. She was a member of the World Wide Church of God in Kansas City. She played the guitar, and when she was younger, she and her twin, who played the mandolin and were known as the Brown Twins, played locally at churches, schools and pie suppers. In their early teens they sang and played on KIMO in Independence, and later entertained on WHB on the Cowtown Jamboree. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Brickley II on March 14, 1986.

Her survivors include seven children, Shirleen Herrick, Windsor, Mo., Lanora Campbell, Springfield, Mo., Shannon Thomas, Danville, Ind., John S. Brickey III, Walter Brickey, Mounds, Okla., Marilyn Sturgeon, Greenwood, and Willis Keith Brickey, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; three brothers, Eugene Brown and Merle Keith Brown, both of Lone Jack, and Kenion R. Brown, Kingsville, Mo.; two sisters, Lanora McKay, Holden, Mo., and her twin sister, Nona May Van Os, Hannibal, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Burial will be in Brown cemetery, Oak Grove. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

IDA E. DENNING

Ida E. Denning, 71, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Miss Denning was born July 12, 1926, in Victoria, Kan., and had lived in Independence for 20 years. She was a sales representative for the Gas Service Co. for 28 years. She was a member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society at the church, and the Siena Club.

Her survivors include six brothers, Carroll Denning, Shawnee Mission, Kan., Art Denning and Dennis Denning, both of Salina, Kan., Max Denning, Hays, Kan., Ralph Denning, Russell, Kan., and Ad Denning, Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Armella Rusler, Hays; and 42 nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery, Lenexa, Kan. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, where the rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association.

GARLAND DILLON

Garland Dillon, 78, Pleasant Hill, Mo., died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital in Kansas City.

Mr. Dillon was born June 12, 1919, near Strasburg, Mo., and had lived in the Pleasant Hill and Strasburg areas most of his life. He was a well-known area stockman and a graduate of the old Strasburg High School. He was an elder and Sunday school teacher in the Strasburg Union Church, president of the Strasburg cemetery Association, and on the Cass County Zoning Commission.

His survivors include his wife, Marjorie E. McMillan Dillon of the home; a son, Larry Dillon, Oak Grove; a daughter, Judy Vanderpool, Blue Springs; a sister, Arlene Gandy, Independence; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stanley & Son Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill. Burial will be in Strasburg cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral Home. The family suggests contributions to the Strasburg cemetery Association or the church.

LADONNA S. HURST

LaDonna Sue Hurst, 48, Higginsville, Mo., died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at Research Medical Center.

Ms. Hurst was born in Hot Springs, Ark., and lived in Lawton, Okla., before moving to this area eight years ago. She was a teacher at the Lakeview Woods State School for the past five years. She attended Texas Women`s University, Eastern Illinois University and Central Missouri State University. She held a master`s degree in physical education and a specialist degree in special education. She was a member of the Odessa Evangelical Free Church.

Her survivors include her mother, Billie Hurst, one brother, Anthony Hurst, both of Lawton, Okla.; one sister, Bobbye Aaron, Kempner, Texas; and her maternal grandmother, Evelyn Perkins, Lawton, Okla.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

LANDIE L. OLIVER

Landie Lee Oliver, 38, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Oliver was born March 22, 1959, in Independence. He attended Fort Osage High School and was a Navy veteran. His survivors include his parents, Orlando E. Oliver and Joan Casey Oliver of Woodridge, Ill.; one daughter, Miranda J. Oliver, Blue Springs; one sister, Vicki A. Workman, Blue Springs; one brother, Randie R. Oliver, Kansas City; his maternal grandparents, Mary Casey, Blue Springs, and Tom and Edie Casey, Independence; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

ELLA O. PAGE

Ella Opal Page, 93, Stockton, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at the Stockton Nursing Home.

Mrs. Page was born Oct. 8, 1904, in Marceline, Mo., and lived in Brookings, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Richmond, Mo., before moving to Independence. She had lived in California before returning to Independence in the 1970s. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and the White Masque Players, serving in numerous offices, including production manager and president. She and her husband, W. Earl "Barney" Page, wrote and directed the 1935 Easter morning pageant at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, and continued to direct the pageant for nine more years. She participated in all church sponsored radio dramas on KMBC. She created puppets, and began using puppetry in worship and teaching, and also wrote and directed many presentations for puppetry. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Her survivors include one sister, Dora S. Cox, Stockton; one niece, Betty Morgansen, Bates City; two nephews, Jean E. Cox, Stockton, Mo., and Kenneth E. Williams, Kansas City; grandnieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home, Buckner. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center Hospice.

DAYMON H. PARK Daymon H. Park, Kansas City, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City.

Funeral services were today at Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel, Kansas City. Burial was in Leavenworth National cemetery.

WILLARD S. PHELPS

Willard Stanley Phelps, 89, Independence, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at Rosewood Health Center.

Mr. Phelps was born Jan. 6, 1908, at Mayville, Mich. He was a terminal manager for the Maiers Motor Freight Co. in Vassar, Mich., for 33 years, retiring in 1968. He was a Mason and a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha.

His survivors include three daughters, Carol Ann Haller, New Jersey, Joanne Murphy, Kansas, and Mary Ann Evans, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

NAOMI R. RUSSELL

Naomi Ruth Russell, 76, Osage Beach, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at Osage Beach Health Center.

Mrs. Russell was born March 18, 1921, in Chilhowee, Mo. She was the editor of Herald House Publishing for 44 years. She was a member of the Oak Hill RLDS congregation. She was preceded in death by a daughter, LaVeta June Anderson.

Her survivors include her husband, Orrin Russell of the home; a son, Roderick S. Russell, Lake Ozark, Mo.; a brother, Walter Schwensen, Overland Park, Kan.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five nephews; and one niece.

Memorial services will be at a later date. Her body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center School of Medicine, Kansas City, Kan. The family suggests contributions to the Parkinson`s Research Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.

RAYMOND E. WHITE Jr.

Raymond Earl White Jr., 50, Apple Valley, Calif., died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at St. Mary`s Regional Medical Center.

Mr. White was born Oct. 4, 1947, in Kansas City, and lived in Sarcoxie and Joplin in Missouri before moving to California in 1985. He was a diesel mechanic for Cummins Diesel for eight years and for Yellow Freight for 19 years. He was a graduate of Joplin High School, an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of the Baptist faith.

His survivors include his wife, Linda White, and a daughter, Rebecca Sue White, both of the home; two stepsons, Patrick Denner, Hampton, Va., and Richard Allen Denner, Springfield, Mo.; three brothers, Jay White, George White, and Charles White, all of Joplin; three sisters, Pat Likely, Independence, Eileene Taber, Joplin, and Mary Pollack, DeSota, Kan.; and one grandson, Ryan Denner.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Butler Funeral Home Chapel, Bolivar. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Bolivar. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

ELEANOR RUSSELL

Eleanor Williams Russell, 93, Independence, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at The Groves.

Mrs. Russell was born Aug. 15, 1905, in Cleveland, Iowa, and had lived in Independence since 1968. As a teen-ager, she worked in a laundry and attended business college, after which she went to work for Bridgeport Machine Co. in Wichita, Kan., rising to the position of secretary to the president of the company. Later she was elected corporate secretary. For 30 years, she and her husband served the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Des Moines, Iowa, Omaha, Neb., St. Joseph, Mo., Flint and Grand Rapids, Michigan, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Independence. She supported her husband`s ministry in many ways, such as teaching classes, directing youth, women`s and young mothers` activities, singing in the choir, recorder of church membership statistics, secretarial work, writing articles for church periodicals, and participating in Church Women United. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Melvin Russell in 1982, and one grandson, James Bradley Lancaster.

Her survivors include four children, Reta Russell Lancaster, Carmel, Ind., Robert M. Russell, Berkeley, Calif., David A. Russell, Medford, Ore., and William D. Russell, Lamoni, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Richard Russell, Susan Lancaster Toner, Paul Melvin Russell, Anne Russell Haines, Thaddeaus Nathan Russell,

Mark David Russell, Lisa Michele Russell, Jacob Samuel Russell and Shauna Russell Shields; and four great-grandchildren, Samuel and Thomas Lancaster, and Patrick and Michael Toner.

A private burial is being held at Mound Grove cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 16 at The Groves, 1415 W. White Oak. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Midtown Chapel.

MELINDA E. ROLLER

Melinda E. Roller, 29, Blue Springs, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999.

Mrs. Roller was born Oct. 6, 1969, in Landstuhl, Germany. She was a 1987 graduate of the Grain Valley High School. She was employed by Mid-Continent Public Library.

Her survivors include her husband, David L. Roller, and a daughter, Mikayla E. Roller, both of the home; her parents, William R. and Jane E. Jones, Grain Valley; and two sisters, Heather Hill, Oak Grove, and Laurie Jones, Grain Valley.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ Oak Grove Restoration Branch. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oak-Valley Country Day School, P.O. Box 35, Grain Valley, Mo. 64029. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
