FLORA O'DELL

Flora O'Dell, 91, Independence, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Truman Medical Center-East.

Mrs. O'Dell was born Dec. 11, 1907, in Aullville, Mo., and had lived in Independence for more than 70 years. She was a member of the Carlisle Baptist Church, and taught Sunday school for more than 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton O'Dell, and a daughter, Rena Roberts in 1998.

Her survivors include one daughter, Virginia Scanlan, Independence; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, John Holtcamp, Higginsville, Mo.; and one sister, Elsie Woodward, Raytown.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Concordia Baptist cemetery, Concordia, Mo. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Carlisle Baptist Church.

LONNIE L. CLINE

Lonnie L. Cline, 59, Independence, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Cline was born March 27, 1939, in Madison County, Ark. He owned and operated Lonnie's Tire Service in Independence for 32 years.

His survivors include four sisters, Mona Littrell, Independence, Sue Tarwater, Odessa, Ann Baughman, Independence, and Nancy Irvin, Blue Springs; one brother, Allen Lee Lockhart, Westville, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Wednesday in Mound Grove cemetery following a noon to 1:30 p.m. visitation at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

EDITH M. LYLE

Edith Margaret Dayton Lyle, 74, Independence, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Lyle was born June 17, 1923, in Urich, Mo., and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a retired legal secretary.

Her survivors include her husband, Robert Lee Lyle, Independence; a daughter, Nancy LeAnne Price, Medford, Ore.; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Robert and Linda Susan (Knipp) Lyle, Republic, Mo.; a brother, Robert Donald Dayton, Kimberling City, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Todd Michael Lyle, Eric Robert Lyle and Dustin Lee Lyle.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Urich cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to St. Mary`s Hospital Home Care Services, 201 West R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs, Mo. 64015.

JESSE A. OSOWSKI

Jesse Austin Osowski, infant son of Ed and Debbie Osowski of Independence, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

His survivors also include his paternal grandparents, Chester and Ella Osowski, and maternal grandparents, Jim and Janice Cottrell, and Robert and Barbara Lane, all of Independence; paternal great-grandmother, Mary Wiercinski, Kansas City; and his maternal great-grandmother, Nellie Poole, Odessa.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

SELESA AUMUA

Selesa Suisala Tauiliili Aumua, 93, Independence, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at Park Lane Hospital in Kansas City.

Mrs. Aumua was born in Sataua Savai`i, Western Samoa, and had lived in Independence for eight years.

Her survivors include four sons, Eru S. Tuiono, Sanelivi Tauiliili, Pati Tauiliili and Safa`ato`a Tauiliili; and two daughters, Leutogi Tauiliili Togiola and Kellgi T. Musual.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 937 W. Walnut St. Burial will be in Brooking cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 5 to 7 tonight at Charter Funerals/Blue Ridge Chapel, Kansas City.

MILLARD N. CLARK

Millard N. Clark, 66, Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Clark was born Oct. 30, 1931, in Kingston, Ark., and had lived in Independence since 1950. He was a licensed auctioneer, and a member of the Missouri Professional Auctioneer Association, and retired from Unisource in 1996. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8101. He attended the First Assembly of God.

His survivors include his wife, Imogene Clark of the home; his mother, Delma Clark, Springdale, Ark.; a daughter, Susie Clark-Ratterree, Independence; two brothers, Melvin Clark, Springdale, and Orvil Clark, Berryville, Ark.; two sisters, Myrtle Davenport and Reeva Clark, both of Springdale; and two grandchildren, Thomas and Kirsten.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Brown Funeral Home, Buckner. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the City Union Mission.

IRENE V. KEESLER

Irene V. Keesler, 94, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at the Maywood Terrace Living Center.

Mrs. Keesler was born Nov. 19, 1903, in Marshall, Mo. She was a manager for dry cleaning stores before she retired. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3976 Ladies Auxiliary, Sugar Creek, and the Pythian Sisters Lodge.

Her survivors include her husband, Orval Keesler, and a daughter, Celestial Cox, both of Kansas City; two sons, Gary Ray Keesler, Belton, Mo., and Harvey Keesler, Deepwater, Mo.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Englewood cemetery, Clinton, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, where VFW Ladies Auxiliary 5th District Mortuary Services will be held at 7:30 p.m.

F.N. 'JACK' GRAYLESS

F.N. 'Jack' Grayless, 73, Blue Springs, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at St. Mary's Manor in Blue Springs.

Mr. Grayless was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Savanna, Ill., and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a combat veteran of the Pacific Theater during World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked in automobile and truck sales for most of his career, most recently at Mid America Truck in Kansas City, Kan. He was raised in the tradition of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

His survivors include five children, Lynn Faye Grayless, Blue Springs, Stephen Michael Grayless, Tulsa, Okla., Craig Malcom Grayless, Blue Springs, Jeffrey Howard Grayless, Springfield, Mo., and James Allen Grayless, Kirbyville, Mo.; two sisters, Lavon Morello, Lee's Summit, and Marjorie Welch, Shell Knob, Mo.; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Inurnment will be in Springfield National cemetery, Springfield, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

DOROTHY A. KELLEY

Dorothy Alene Kelley of Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Kelley was born in Johnson County, Ill., and had lived in Marion, Ill., before moving to Independence area in 1961. She previously worked for Sangimo Electric and also for several local jewelry stores. She was a member of the Walnut Park RLDS congregation.

Her survivors include her husband, Charlie Benjamin Kelley of Independence; a son and daughter-in-law, Cecil and Margaret Kelley, Independence; a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Robert D. Broeking, Marion; two brothers, Jack Simmons, Ozark, Ill., and Frank Simmons, Villa Grove, Ill.; three sisters, Betty Newton, Kankakee, Ill., Bonnie Turnbull, Bourbonnis, Ill., and Haloween Choisser, Sherwood, Ark.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, Marion. Burial will be in Webb cemetery, Tunnel Hill, Ill. Friends may call from 7:30 to 9 tonight at the Speaks Midtown Chapel, and from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.

BETTY J. LAYDEN

Betty J. Layden, 73, Independence, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center

Mrs. Layden was born Dec. 23, 1924, in Independence and was a lifelong Independence resident. She has worked for the Standard Oil Co. and Strike & Spare Bowl. She was a 1942 graduate of William Chrisman High School, and a member of Pleasant Grove Bible Church in Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Layden on April 20, 1998, and a Son Michael.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Beth Layden, Oskaloosa, Kan.; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathie and Kim Nagel, and a brother, William Liddle, all of Independence; and eight grandchildren, Jason, Patrick, Casey, Chrissy, Korey, Jessica and Davis.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel.

ROBERT E. 'BOB' PASCHALL

Robert E. 'Bob' Paschall, 51, Independence, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Paschall was born Aug. 13, 1947, in Independence. He worked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for 17 years. He was a member of the Pioneer Gun Club in Kansas City, a patron member of the National Rifle Association since 1963, and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a Harley rider, attended motor cycle rallies, and was active on the Internet with Harley lovers around the world, using the screen name, Bullet 67CH. He was also a member of the Kansas City Baptist Temple, and a 1965 graduate of William Chrisman High School, where he was active in the R.O.T.C. as a captain. He received the Chicago Tribune Award for Outstanding Cadet in 1965.

His survivors include his wife, Patsy Paschall of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Earleta 'Edie' and Dennis Trytten, Carona, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Epilepsy Foundation for the Heart of America, 6550-BC Troost, Kansas City, Mo. 64131 or the American Cancer Society.

BAXTER F. 'BABE' PULLIN

Baxter F. 'Babe' Pullin, 84, Independence, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Pullin was born April 1, 1914, in Old Fort Worth, Texas, and lived in and around Oklahoma City for 40 years, moving to the Independence area two years ago. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps for three years during World War II, and was involved in the campaigns in Normandy and the Rhineland. He received the Good Conduct Medal, four Bronze Stars, and the EAME Service Ribbon. After receiving an honorable discharge, he established a farm. He was a member of the Waldo Avenue Church of Jesus Christ Restoration Branch.

His survivors include his wife, Audrey Pullin of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and Wayne Bingham, Valrico, Fla., and Pamela and Patrick Chrislip, Kansas City; four grandchildren, Mary Gardner, David Bingham, and Joshua and Sara Chrislip; and two great-grandchildren, Bethany and Paiton Gardney.

Graveside services were today at Mound Grove cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Speaks Midtown Chapel.

BETTY J. TALLEY

Betty Jo Talley, 66, Independence, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998.

Mrs. Talley was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Valley Springs, Ark. She was a member of the Blue Ridge Assembly of God Church.

Her survivors include her husband, Horace Talley of the home; two sons, Ronald L. Talley, Papillion, Neb., and David C. Talley, Independence; five daughters, Grace E. Williams, Liberty, Mo., Patricia L. Dermody, Las Vegas, Nev., Sandra Lowe, Independence, Karen Sue Garnica, Aurora, Colo., and Eunice V. Stewart, Cameron, Mo.; three brothers, William L. Burton, Excelsior Springs, Mo., Gilbert C. Burton Jr., Lancaster, Kan., and Ross L. Burton, Waukomis, Okla.; three sisters, Catherine A. Love, Drumright, Okla., Jane Firuccia, Gladstone, Mo., and Mary Martin, Independence; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheil Colonial Chapel, Raytown. Burial will be in Swan Lake cemetery, Grain Valley. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Crossroads Hospice or the Youth Department of the church.

PAUL R. HARP

Paul Robert Harp, 71, Oak Grove, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Harp was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Joplin, Mo., and had lived in the Joplin area until moving to the Kansas City area in 1951. He had been employed as a sales representative for McPike Pharmacies, retiring in 1979. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Christian Church.

His survivors include his wife, Ruth A. Harp of the home; a son, Troy M. Harp, Lathrop, Mo.; a daughter, Lisa K. Carlisle, Oak Grove; a brother, Ronald M. Harp, Kimberling City, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Benjamin, Samuel, Thomas and Tara Harp.

Memorial services will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, where friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or Carondelet Hospice.

MADGE L. LANDFRIED

Madge L. Landfried, 85, Lee's Summit, died Friday, March 12, 1999, at the Lee's Summit Hospital. Mrs. Landfried was born Oct. 19, 1913, in Hutchinson, Kan. She lived in Independence, where she attended school, and moved to Lee's Summit in 1981. Her survivors include her husband, Robert Landfried of the home; a sister, Lorene Twiehaus, Kansas City; a nephew, Joe Russell; four sisters-in-law, Eleanor Hershey, Independence, Mary Ackerman and Frances Tandy, both of Lee's Summit, and Mildred Roger, Basye, Va. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Chipman Road and Independence Ave., Lee's Summit. Burial will be in Longview Memorial Garden cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit.

BETTY A. BETTINGER

Betty A. Bettinger, 74, Independence, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at Lee's Summit Community Hospital.

Mrs. Bettinger was born May 27, 1925, in Kansas City. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Leon A. Bettinger Sr., died Aug. 31, 1987.

Her survivors include two sons, Leon Allen Bettinger Jr., and his wife, Janie, Bates City, and Gary Bettinger of the home; thee grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Alfred Fitzpatrick, Kansas City; and two sisters, Lucille Deeds, Independence, and Rebecca Hyer, Humansville, Mo.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

SARAH F. KIRK

Sarah F. Kirk, 83, Independence, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Kirk was born Sept. 9, 1915, in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. During World War II, she worked at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, and later retired from Nevel Luggage. She was a member of Mount Calvary United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary.

Her survivors include her husband, Charles H. Kirk of the home; a nephew, Gary Eldridge, Cross Timbers, Mo.; and a great-niece, Mary Young, Blue Springs.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.
