CHARLES R. SMITH SR.

Charles R. Smith Sr., 72, Warsaw, Mo., formerly of Blue Springs, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1997.

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 31, 1924, in Columbia, Mo. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs. He owned C.R. Smith Construction and Jackson County Ready Mix in Blue Springs. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 217 and the Elks Lodge, both of Warsaw, Mo., and the Country Club of Blue Springs.

His survivors include his wife, Shirley Smith of the home; a son, Charles R. Smith Jr., Blue Springs; three daughters, Shirley Jean White, Lake Lotawana, Barbara Louise Brown and Charyl Kay Smith, both of Blue Springs; two sisters, Edna LaFoon, Bellview, Neb., and Evelyn Hopson, Houston; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. Entombment will be in the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

MARTHA A. CORUM

Martha Alice Corum, 64, Independence, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Corum was born March 29, 1933, in Lowry City, Mo., and had lived most of her life in Independence. She was a seamstress for DVB Enterprises until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Corum in 1993, and a daughter, Carol Parkes in 1991.

Her survivors include a son, Thomas Corum, Idaho City, Idaho; three daughters, Patricia Lityma, Independence, Carla Shore, Piper, Kan., and Mary Corum, Raytown; two brothers, Forrest Settle, Urbana, Mo., and Howard Settle, Lowry City; a sister, Ernestine Durbin, Osceola, Mo.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

BILLIE H. KITCHELL

Mrs. Billie H. Kitchell, 86, Portland, Ore., died Monday, July 14, 1995, at her home.

Mrs. Kitchell was born March 17, 1911, at Pacific, Mo., and had lived in St. Clair and Kansas City, before moving to Portland in 1945. She had been a school teacher for public and private schools. She was a member of White Temple Baptist, Portland. She was also a member of Mount Washington Eastern Star 423, Independence, and the Multnomah Athletic Club.

Her survivors include a sister-in-law, Margaret Hurt, Independence.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Washington cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

RUDOLPH J. KRSKA

Rudolph "Rudy" James Krska, 104, Belton, Mo., died Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at the Beautiful Savior Home, Belton.

Mr. Krska was born April 6, 1893, in Linwood, Neb., and had lived in Custer, S.D., for 34 years before moving to the Kansas City area in 1987. He retired from Chicago Northwestern Railroad in 1951. He was a telegraph operator and depot agent. He was a member of the United Benefits Society Order of Telegraphs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Culbertson Krska on Aug. 23, 1994, a son, William Ray Krska, a daughter, Adra Mae Shaw, a granddaughter, Judy Shaw and a great-grandson, Jacob Randall Marsh.

His survivors include a son, Arnold D. Krska, Independence, two daughters, Velma Garlock, Lincoln, Neb., and Sally Gevens, Belton; a sister, Marie Woslager, Fremont, Neb., 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in New Salem cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund, 17200 East 39th St., Independence, Mo., or to Beautiful Savior Home, Belton.

KEITHA K. WARNER

Keitha KayWarner, 79, Independence, died Tuesday, July 14, 1997, at the Independence Regional Health Care Center.

Mrs. Warner was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Saginaw, Mich. She was a sales representative for Avon for many years and was a judge for the Jackson County Board of Election Commissioners. She was active in the Scouting program, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, 4-H and in the women`s department of her local church congregation. She was a member of the 39th Street RLDS Church. She was preceded in death by a son, David.

Her survivors include her husband of 564 years, Ervine Warner; two daughters, Delores Ryder, Independence, Kay Keehler, Lee`s Summit; two sons, Larry Warner and Robert Warner, both of Independence; a sister, Virginia Schumk, Birch Run, Mich.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 9 a.m. Thursday at Floral Hills, Raytown. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the 39th Street RLDS Church.

JOE W. WILLIAMS

Joe Wesley Williams, 71, Kansas City, died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at Park Lane Hospital.

Mr. Williams was born July 19, 1925, in California. He retired after 33 years of service with Braniff Airlines.

His survivors include his wife, Naomi Williams of the home; and his mother, Helen Seay of Florida.

Services will be at 3 today at Mount Moriah and Freeman Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until service time at the chapel.

JERRY E. BRASHEAR

Jerry Eugene Brashear, 49, Grain Valley, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at St. Louis University Hospital.

Mr.Brashear was born Oct. 9, 1948, in Kansas City, and had lived in Denver as a child and had spent his younger years in Santa Maria, Calif. He had been employed as a chef in Seattle, Wash., Anchorage, Alaska, and Maui, Hawaii.

His survivors include his wife, Angela K. Brashear, and a daughter, Sunny Elizabeth Brashear, both of the home; two sons, Troy Brashear and Byron Brashear, both of Washington; and his mother, Sibyl "Sunny" Way, Blue Springs.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Sheil Colonial Chapel; cremation.

MARY A. GAYHART

Mary Alice Gayhart, 72, Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Gayhart was born July 14, 1925, in Shawnee Mission, Kan. She had lived in this area for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd William Gayhart in 1977.

Her survivors include a son, Michael Gayhart, Marietta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Josh and Jesse; a brother, Jess Horner, Independence; and aunts, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Saturday at Speaks Suburban Chapel; cremation. The family suggests contributions to the National Kidney Foundation.

VERA R.JONES

Vera R. Strohl Jones, 86, Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at the Independence Health Care Center.

Mrs. Jones was born Nov. 15, 1911, in Elyria, Ohio, and had lived in Elyria for most of her life until moving to Independence two years ago. She had been a bookkeeper for Metropolitan Insurance Co. for 29 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She is survived by a son, William D. Jones Jr., Independence, and a granddaughter.

Memorial services will be later in the spring in Elyria. The family suggests contributions to the Elyria RLDS Church, Elyria, Ohio. Arrangements are under the direction of Speaks Midtown Chapel.

JOHN A. LAMBRECHT

John Ashley Lambrecht, 35, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998.

Mr. Lambrecht was born Feb. 20, 1962, in Hayes, Kan., and had lived in this area for most of his life. He was a pressman for the Kansas City Star for four years. He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

His survivors include a daughter, Samantha Bruellisauer of the home; his mother, Elaine Martin, Independence; four brothers, Leslie Lambrecht, Independence, Rodney Lambrecht, Lawson, Mo., Irvin Lambrecht Jr., and George Martin Jr., both of Independence; and two sisters, Natalie Fosburg, Independence, and Elaine Hink, Blue Springs.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

WILLIAM "BILL" O. MERTENS

William "Bill" O. Mertens, 81, Kansas City, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Mertens was born in Chicago, Ill., and had lived in Springfield, Mo., before moving to this area in 1948. He had been circulation manager for Modern Handcraft Publishing Co., retiring after 17 years of employment. He was a member of the Tri-City Ministries.

His survivors include his wife, Lorrie Mertens of the home; a daughter, Donna McDowell, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services will be at a later date in Springfield, Mo. The family suggests contributions to the Missions Fund at the Tri-City Ministries, 4500 S. Selsa Road, Independence, Mo. 64015.

ROBERT H. POTTS

Robert Hugh Potts, 68, Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

Mr. Potts was born Jan. 15, 1930, in Kansas City. He was an electrical engineer, having retired from Black and Veatch. He attended Kansas City Junior College, University of Missouri at Kansas City, and received his electrical engineering degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, IEEE, Engineers` Toastmasters, Bingham-Waggoner Historical Society and Missouri Repertory Theatre Guild.

His survivors include his wife, Rosalie Potts of the home; a sister, Lucille Records, Raymore, Mo.; and two nieces and two nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ascension Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Speaks Suburban Chapel.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Ascension Lutheran Church Building Fund.

DR. EDWARD C. RINCK

Dr. Edward C. Rinck, 94, Nevada, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Nevada (Mo.) Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Rinck was born April 27, 1903, in Altamont, Kan., and was raised in Kansas City. He received his medical degree from the Kansas University Medical School in 1929 and his training in psychiatry in Galveston, Texas. From 1929 to 1961, he served in the U.S. Public Health Service. From 1936 to 1939, he was attached to the U.S. Consular Service and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, and Dublin, Ireland. He then served as medical director at the U.S.N.E. Penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pa., and at the Medical Center, Springfield, Mo. In 1961 he joined the State Hospital in Nevada, Mo., as clinical director, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Nevada; the Masonic Osage Lodge 303, A.F.&A.M.; Royal Arch Masons, Nevada Chapter 56, O`Sullivan Commandry 15 of Nevada; and Carthage Council 41; Rotary International, Nevada.

His survivors include his wife, Alma Rinck of the home; a son, Dr. William Edward Rinck, Independence; a grandson, David Rinck; two granddaughters, Victoria Rinck and Valerie Carroll; a great-granddaughter, Marianne Carroll; and a nephew, John Cook.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will be 2:30 p.m. Monday in Forest Hill cemetery, Kansas City. Masonic services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Ferry Funeral Home with visitation following until 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church, Nevada.

EMMA M. TENNIS

Emma May Tennis, 91, Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at the Independence Manor Care Center.

Mrs. Tennis was born March 22, 1906, in Winchester, Kan., and had lived in Independence for most of her life. She was a floral designer at Cairns Flowers for nine years, retiring in 1959. She was a member of the Eastgate Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Otis Tennis in 1977.

Her survivors include a son, Raymond Tennis, Independence; a daughter, Shirley Christenson, Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Steve Christenson, Bob Christenson, Ilene Christenson, Vicky Sutherland and Lisa Tennis; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

ANITA D. OWINGS

Anita Dee Owings, 94, Olathe, Kan., died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at the Royal Terrace Care Center in Olathe.

Mrs. Owings was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. The family will receive friends preceding the service. Her cremains will be interred in Oak Grove cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Olathe Hospice, 20375 W. 151st St., Suite 206, Olathe, Kan. 66061, or the Olathe Christian Church.

JOHN EDWARD "JACK" BRICE

John E. Brice, 71, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998. He was born March 22, 1927, in St. Louis.

He is survived by three sons, Jack and Kevin Brice, Blue Springs, and Mick Brice, Independence; and three grandchildren, Kelly, Jon and Crystal. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, in 1991.

Mr. Brice was a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs. He was a member of the Catholic Church of the Santa Fe, Buckner, where he was a eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Buckner Chamber of Commerce and the Buckner Business Association.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm. Monday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Catholic Church of the Santa Fe. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs.
