PAUL KELLEY

Paul Kelley, 85, Lee`s Summit, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Kelley was born July 1, 1912, in Goreville, Ill. He was a dairy farmer and a bus driver for the Blue Springs School District for more than 20 years, retiring in 1977. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Kelley on Jan. 1, 1990.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills East cemetery. Friends may call 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Arthritis Foundation.

BERTHA G. BENNER

Bertha Geil Benner, 96, Independence, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Care Center.

Mrs. Benner was born May 22, 1901, in Lyons, Neb., and had lived in Independence for more than 54 years. She was an accounting secretary before her retirement. She was a member of the Laurel Club and the East Alton RLDS congregation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adron F. Benner in 1995, and a son, Gordon L. Benner in 1993.

Her survivors include two daughters, Delores Hutson, Topeka, and Beverly Eaton, Golden, Colo.; a brother, Retired Col. Austin G. Fisher, Port Orange, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.

WAYLIS A. CLARK

Waylis A. Hughes Clark, 79, Independence, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at the Intensive Hospital at Bethany Medical Center.

Mrs. Clark was born on April 24, 1919, in Helena, Mont., lived most of her life in California, moving to this area in 1989. She was owner/operator of LumaDome Antiques and Collectibles in Independence. She was a member of the Eden Heights RLDS congregation.

Her survivors include her husband, Richard Clark of the home; two sons, Doyle R. Hughes, Independence, and Duane C. Hughes, Petaluma, Calif.; a daughter, Wylene Isaacson, St. Petersburg, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Private burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the RLDS Oblation Fund, in care of the Office of Presiding Bishopric, P.O. Box 1059, Independence, Mo. 64051.

DORA E. MALLINSON

Dora Ellen Mallinson, 85, Sugar Creek, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Mallinson was born Nov. 3, 1912, in Palestine, Texas, and had lived in this area most of her life. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert L. Mallinson, died in 1997.

Her survivors include three sons, J.W. Mallinson, Grain Valley, Robert L. Mallinson Jr., Sugar Creek, and Bradley Mallinson, Lexington, Mo.; two daughters, Roberta Masters and Edna Claibourn, and two sisters, Myrtle Ballinger and Vivian Sanders, all of Independence; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army.

MARJORIE Z. MESLE

Marjorie Z. Mesle, 79, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Care Center.

Mrs. Mesle was born Feb. 12, 1919, in Fergus Falls, Minn. She was a graduate of Graceland College and the Independence Sanitarium School of Nursing, and practiced as a registered nurse until retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Professional Nurses Association. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, and was a member of the RLDS Colonial Hills congregation.

Her survivors include her husband, Richard L. Mesle, Blue Springs; a son, Reed Oltvedt, Kansas City; two daughters, Carol Carter, Blue Springs, and Shauna Holmes, Washington, D.C.; a stepson, Gregory Oltvedt, Minnetonka, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Marion Scharoun, Farmington, Maine, and Ann Margaret Trefethan, Chesterville, Maine; eight grandchildren, Jeremy and Christopher Holmes, Sarah and Maren Oltvedt, and Hallie, John, Evan and Naomi Carter; and six stepgrandchildren.

Memorial services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel; cremation. The family suggests contributions to the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund.

LOU SCHUMACHER SR.

Lou Schumacher Sr., 76, Kansas City, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Schumacher, a native of Portland, Ore., received a degree in mechanical engineering from Oregon State University, where he was a member and president of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was a first lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and served as an instructor in heavy equipment. He worked in the Central Sales Division of Caterpillar in Peoria, Ill., before moving to Kansas City in 1959. He was executive vice president of the Dean Machinery Co., retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Southern Communities Coalition, Kansas City; Waste Minimization Commission, Kansas City; Environmental Management Commission and was a lifetime member of the Soil

Conservation Society of America. He was a supporter and an involved patron of Consolidated School District 1, was a competition ballroom dancer, and had been honored with the keys to the cities of Kansas City and St. Louis for his community involvement.

For the past several years he dedicated his time to the study and history of the Santa Fe Trail, research and the actual route of the trail through Kansas City and Jackson County. In 1966, he was presented the Gold Award by the U.S. Department of Interior National Park Service for his "...valuable contribution to the Santa Fe Historical Trail." He served on the board of the National Santa Fe Trail Association and the Oregon and California Trail associations. He was the founder of Three Trails West Inc., a not-for-profit organization to preserve and maintain the original routes of the Oregon, California and Old Independence Santa Fe Trail through the Greater Kansas City area. The Schumacher family donated three acres of land on a strip of the Old Santa Fe Trail and established it as the Schumacher Park.

His survivors include his wife, Topper Schumacher of the home; three sons, Lou Schumacher Jr., Kansas City, Jim Schumacher, Los Angeles, and John Schumacher, Rolla, Mo.; a daughter, Cindy Sue Davis, Kansas City; two brothers, Carl Schumacher and William Schumacher, both of Portland; a sister, Louise Taylor, Corvallis, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Schumacher Park, 6601 E. 93rd St., Kansas City. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the home of Lou Schumacher Jr., 6601 E. 93rd St., Kansas City. Private burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery, Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Three Trails West, 5906 E. Bannister Road, Kansas City, Mo. 64134.

ETHLYN TUCKER

Ethlyn Tucker, 78, Independence, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Tucker was born Nov. 17, 1919, in Cowgill, Mo. She was a stock records clerk for Montgomery Ward before she retired. She was a member of the Sugar Creek Church of Christ.

Her survivors include three daughters, Betty Perry, Marilyn Cox and Beverly Burks, all of Independence; 15 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Mo. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Braymer. There will be no visitation, but friends may call until the service time.

WENDELL B. WILSON

Wendell B. Wilson of Wheatland, Mo., died Monday, May 11, 1998, in Dallas.

Mr. Wilson was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Dallas. He was a professional dog handler, and owned his own kennel for many years. He was active in the PHA and AKC. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

His survivors include his children, Chris Wilson, Lee`s Summit, Patti Dolan, Omaha, Neb., David Wilson, Ashford, Conn., and Donna Bolz, Sterling, Alaska; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Chapel Hill cemetery, Kansas City, Kan. The family suggests contributions to Habitat for Humanity.

ELSIE ALLEN

Elsie Allen, 87, of the Monterey Park Nursing Center, died Friday, April 4, 1997, at the nursing center.

Mrs. Allen was born April 16, 1910, in Chicago. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Taylor of Independence.

Graveside services were April 7 at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park Inc., Clearwater, Fla. Arrangements were under the direction of Lakeview Chapel, Blount Curry & Roel Funeral Home, Clearwater.

JOSEPH S. MOORE

Joseph Sehnert Moore, 64, Independence, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at St. Mary`s Manor, Blue Springs.

Mr. Moore was born March 21, 1933, in Ash Grove, Mo. He was a graduate of the Mt. Vernon (Mo.) High School and earned a bachelor`s degree in agriculture from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He worked for Swift & Co. for 13 years and the Missouri Portland Cement Co. (later known as the Lafarge Corp.) from 1970 to 1992. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon of Susquehanna Baptist Church in Independence. He was a member of MSHSAA and officiated many sporting events, including church league games and state high school football games. He was active in the KC Quarterback Club for MU and the Missouri Alumni Association. He had served as president of the aggregate division of both Missouri and Kansas Concrete Associations. He was a member of the Fort Osage School Board of Education from 1977 to 1984 and served a term as its president. He was honored as a Pioneer in Education in 1995. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne.

His survivors include his wife, Waunita and a daughter, Jeanne, both of Independence; two sons, Joseph Craig Moore, St. Joseph, Mo., and Steven Riley Moore, Odessa; a sister, Mary Kathryn Peterson, Marshall, Mo.; a brother, John Harrison Moore, Springfield, Mo.; his father, Joseph Clayton Moore, Mt. Vernon, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Brandi Suzanne Moore, Michael James Moore, Clayton Riley Moore, Joseph Lear Moore, Cameron Craig Moore, Joanne Kathryn Moore and Joseph Kyle Moore.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Independence. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the IOOF cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the College of Agriculture at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

STELLA M. VUN CANNON

Stella M. Vun Cannon, 89, Independence, died Monday, April 14, 1997, at the Independence Health Care Center.

Mrs. Vun Cannon was born May 7, 1907, in Jackson County and had lived in Independence most of her life. She worked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant during the war and was a member of the Blue Springs Restoration Church.

Her survivors include her husband, Carl W. Vun Cannon Sr. of the home; three sons, Thomas H. McKinney, Pebble Beach, Calif., Carl W. Vun Cannon Jr. of the home, and Michael D. Vun Cannon, Wichita, Kan.; one daughter, Phillis Bailey, Odessa; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Private entombment. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Blue Springs Restoration Church.

MAX R. WOLF

Max R. Wolf, 75, Blue Springs, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Wolf was a retired Army Captain. He served in the ETO in World War II and later in Korea. After his retirement from the Army, he was an agent for the State Farm Insurance Company until retiring in 1985. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Ararat Shrine Temple of Kansas City. He was also a member of Blue Springs Lodge 337, A.F. & A.M. and served as commander of VFW Post 6603 in 1984. He was a past president of the Blue Springs Rotary Club. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Wolf of the home; a son, Richard Wolf, and a daughter, Merri Lou Field, both of Blue Springs; and three grandchildren, Amanda Bradford, Elizabeth Meredith and Megan Wolf.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where Masonic Services will be at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Shriners Children`s Hospital in St. Louis.

PAULINE BOTTS

Pauline Botts, 80, Independence, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, at Truman Medical Center-East.

Mrs. Botts was born Jan. 22, 1917, in Independence. She had worked until retirement as an egg candler for the Colby Industry.

Her survivors include her husband, Harry Botts; and two stepdaughters, Susie M. Botts and Cheryl Killiebrew.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Palestine Baptist Church, Independence. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

MILDRED I. LAND

Mildred I. Land, 97, Kansas City, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at Truman Medical Center-East.

Mrs. Land was born May 26, 1900, in Iola, Kan. She was a member of the Spring Valley Baptist Church and Truman Medical Center East Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joel A. Land.

Her survivors include two sons, Donald E. "Gene" Land, Kansas City, and Lester N. Land, Parker, Kan.; three daughters, Eva Lee Lundberg, Kansas City, and Louise Taylor and Dorothy Turner, both of Independence; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

STANLEY M. LARSON

Stanley Merle Larson, 80, Blue Springs, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Larson was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Erwin, S.D. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Stanley Pack Post of the American Legion and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Blue Springs Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He retired as a security officer for Standard Oil Co., Sugar Creek Refinery. He had lived in this area for 39 years and was an avid Chiefs fan.

His survivors include his wife, Dorothy Larson of the home; a daughter, Nancy Larson Popowski, Curlew, Wash.; four stepchildren, Robert Chambers, Miami, Fla., Reed Chambers, Independence, Joni Crane-Woods, Juno Beach, Fla., and Carol Rachel Jacobs, McKinney, Texas; three sisters, Jean Christensen, Rapid City, S.D., Ruby Miller, Auburn, Ind., and Elleen Kadiec, Council Bluffs, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 2:30p.m. Sunday at the church, 5555 Valley View Road, Blue Springs. Private interment services will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Stanley Larson Memorial Fund.
