DR. EDMUND D. ALLEN

Dr. Edmund Dexter Allen, 81, Independence, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Dr. Allen was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Independence and had lived most of his life in this area. He was an optometrist in Independence for 27 years, retiring in 1984. He taught at Kansas City College of Commerce for several years and had been a high school music teacher in Linn, Sullivan, St. Joseph and Lafayette, all in Missouri. He was a member of the Kansas City Astronomy Club, Independence Symphony, St. Andrews Bag Pipe Band, the Messiah Choir, American Legion Band and the Medical Arts Symphony. He was a priest in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a member of the Enoch Hill RLDS Church.

His survivors include his wife, Rose Ina Allen of the home; a son, David Stanley Allen, Salina, Kan.; a daughter, Rebecca Bailey, Independence; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

ROY E. MILLER

Roy E. Miller, 83, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Miller was born Feb. 23, 1915, in Kansas City. He was owner/operator of Miller Christmas Tree Farm. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was a member of American Legion Post 499 and the Linwood Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Miller, and two sons, Roy Jr., and Ronald Bolte.

His survivors include a daughter, Shirley Atkin, Kansas City; a brother, Ralph "Bill" Miller, Independence; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Webb-Freer Funeral home. Burial will be in the Blue Springs cemetery, where military services will be presented by American Legion Post 499.

JOYCE "JOY" A. BARTON RAINES

Joyce "Joy" Ann Barton Raines, 34, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital.

Mrs. Raines was born Nov. 14, 1963, in Fort Campbell, Ky. She was a preschool teacher. She was a 1982 graduate of Marshall High School in 1982 and had attended Central Missouri State University before graduating in 1984 from Platte College.

Her survivors include her husband, David Raines, Blue Springs; a daughter, Kylea Raines, and a son, Tristan Raines, both of the home; two brothers, James "Jay" Paul Barton Jr., Blue Springs, and Russell Underwood Jr., Washington, D.C.; a sister, Jana McArthur, Grain Valley; an uncle, Dr. Larry L. Cornine, Independence; and her parents, Russell and Judi Underwood, Blue Springs.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home.

CALVIN L. COPENHAVER

Calvin Lee Copenhaver, 62, Odessa, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at St. Luke`s Hospital in Kansas City.

Mr. Copenhaver was born Feb. 26, 1936, in Odessa and was a lifelong Odessa resident. He was the owner/manager of Budget Motors in Blue Springs. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa, a 1954 graduate of Odessa High School, a Navy veteran, and was co-owner of the Belly-Up Racing Team, Ford Modified Stock Car.

His survivors include one daughter, Ronda Flinn, Dallas; his mother, Edith Lucille Neece Copenhaver of the home; a sister, Bettie Hiestand, Independence; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa, inurnment. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.

JOHN F. BAILEY

John F. Bailey, 56, Blue Springs, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Bailey was born July 29, 1941, in St. Louis, and lived in Festus and Crystal City in Missouri most of his life, moving to Blue Springs 17 years ago. He worked for AT&T for 27 years, retiring in 1988, and was currently employed with Sprint. He was a Navy veteran, and a member of the USS Topeka Reunion Group. He was born again as a Christian on Feb. 14, 1994, and was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir of the Plaza Heights Baptist Church.

His survivors include his wife, Patricia "Pat" Bailey of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Rachel Bailey, Grain Valley; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Steven Gann, Blue Springs; five grandchildren, Ralph and Holly Gann, and Mychael, Madyson and Maryssa Bailey; a brother, Mark Bailey, Farmington, Mo.; and two sisters, Nancy Goodwin, Pevely, Mo., and Virginia "Ginny" Yates, Pacific, Mo.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Leavenworth National cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Rachel House, formerly the L.I.G.H.T. House of Blue Springs.

LOUIS E. FARR JR.

Louis E. Farr Jr., 78, Blue Springs, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at the Cass County Hospital, Harrisonville, Mo.

Mr. Farr was born May 16, 1920, in Hamburg, Mo. He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 42 years, retiring as superintendent of railroad equipment in 1983. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Railroad Battalion. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Lyons Farr.

His survivors include his wife, Elizabeth J. "Betty" Hazen Farr of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Greg Rivera, Raleigh, N.C., and Anne and Shelby Neal, Aurora, Texas; four stepchildren, J.V. Hazen, Columbus, Ga., Janis and Robert Henderson, Topeka, Sue and Ron Craig, Blue Springs, and Howard Bonds, Fayette, Miss.; three sisters, Vera Lee Waldren and Marguerite Waldren, both of Woodson, Ark., and Lila Varner, Tallulah, La.; one brother, John Farr, Grimeslind, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Campbell Funeral Home, Yates Center, Kan. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Yates Center cemetery. Friends may call until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and the family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The family suggests contributions to the Cass County Medical Center.

LETA M. FIELDS

Leta Mae Fields, 84, Richmond, Mo., died Friday, July 10, 1998, at the Ray County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Fields was born July 3, 1914, in Polo, Mo., and had lived in Ray County most of her life. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Dockery Baptist Church.

Her survivors include her husband, Monroe R. Fields of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, John H. and Dovie Fields, Independence; one daughter, Donna Ann Sickle, Richmond; one brother, Donald Hyder, Farmington, N.M.; four grandchildren, Brian Sickle and Mary Ann Sickle, both of Richmond, Michael Sickle, Grain Valley, and Jonathan Fields, Independence; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Ray County Memorial Hospital Foundation Fund, or to the Ray County Hospital`s Home Health Agency.

LAVETTA M. HARRISON

Lavetta M. Harrison, 62, Lee`s Summit, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Harrison was born July 11, 1936, in Iantha, Mo., and lived in Sedalia, Mo., before moving to this area. She taught for the Sedalia School System for 25 years, and the Marlborough Magnet (elementary) School in Kansas City for 11 years. She also taught part-time at Longview Community College in the evening Math Department for about eight years. She was a member of the Lee`s Summit Christian Church.

Her survivors include her husband of 30 years, James "Jim" Harrison of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Marcia Hurt, Blue Springs; two brothers, Earl White, Topeka, and Melvin White, Florida; and two grandsons, Bryan and Michael Hurt of Blue Springs.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee`s Summit. Burial will be in Lee`s Summit cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

DURWARD "HICK" KIRBY

Durward "Hick" Kirby, 80, Sibley, formerly of Grain Valley, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at the Veteran`s Administration Hospital in Kansas City.

Mr. Kirby was born May 11, 1918, in Grain Valley. He was the owner/operator of Kirby`s Garage in Grain Valley for 34 years. He was an Army and Air Force veteran, and a member of American Legion Post 379 in Oak Grove. He was a member of M.A.R.S, a ham radio operator with call letters of W0DLY.

His survivors include his wife, Helen N. King Kirby of the home; a son, Terry Kirby, Odessa; a daughter, Gay Lynn Heard, Blue Springs; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were today at Swan Lake cemetery, Grain Valley.

BELVA D. McGUIRE

Bleva D. McGuire, 69, Lake Tapawingo, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. McGuire was born Nov. 14, 1928, in Blue Springs. She worked for the federal government for 13 years, and was a personal assistant for the Blue Springs School District for 26 years, retiring in 1990. She was a charter member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church and the Pilot Club of Blue Springs, and a 1946 graduate of Blue Springs High School. She was a member of the Lake Tapawingo Women`s Club, Retired Educators Association, and American Legion Post 499 Ladies Auxiliary.

Her survivors include her husband, Vernon McGuire of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Leeanne Calhoon, Blue Springs, and Stephanie and John Leven, Oak Grove; one sister, Rachel Beal, Blue Springs; and three grandchildren, Cory Calhoon, Kimberly Leven and Tobey Salley.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Little Red Schoolhouse Fund, in care of the Blue Springs Foundation, 1100 S.W. Outer Road, Blue Springs, Mo. 64015.

MARY E. SEARS

Mary E. Sears, 71, Independence, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Sears was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Independence. She was a homemaker and a member of the Liberty Street RLDS congregation.

Her survivors include her husband, Roy H. Sears of the home; one daughter, Dianna Azbill, Independence; one son, David Echols, Lake Lotawana; two sisters, Katherine Thompson, Independence, and Mildred Simons, New York; and one brother, Luther Paschall Jr., Independence; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association.

WASOLEE M. SEWELL

Wasolee M. Sewell, 63, Kansas City, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Sewell was born May 25, 1935, in Halfway, Mo. She worked for Jesco Lubricants for seven years, as well as Kendallwood Apartments for 10 years. She was a member of the Jerico Baptist Church in Independence.

Her survivors include her husband, Wilbur Sewell of the home; one son, David L. Sewell, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; one daughter, Pamela Johnson, Blue Springs; his mother, Tennie Wrinkle, Springfield, Mo.; four brothers, Morgan Wrinkle, Bolivar, Mo., Carl Wrinkle and John Wrinkle, both of Springfield, and William Wrinkle, Fair Grove, Mo.; four sisters, Wanda Perkins, Kansas City, Dorothy Loftis, Ozark, Mo., and Janice Smith and Katherine Hanson, both of Springfield; three grandchildren, Cassandra Millington, Blue Springs, and David M. Sewell and Nicki Sewell, both of Excelsior Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Son White Chapel, Gladstone. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Gladstone. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

MARSHA J. DOZIER

Marsha Jane Dozier, 40, Independence, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998.

Mrs. Dozier was born in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. She had previously worked at Rival Manufacturing.

Her survivors include her husband, Jay Dozier of the home; two sons, Dylan Headley, Odessa, and Logan Headley, Independence; her parents, Norma and Daryl Strohm, Kansas City; two sisters, Linda Kay Parsons, Lee's Summit, and Vicky Ann Galetti, Kansas City; and her paternal grandmother, Rena Strohm.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Floral Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Speaks Suburban Chapel.

MAXINE G. HERRON-CARNEY

Maxine G. Herron-Carney, 80, Warrensburg, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at the Country Club Care Center, Warrensburg.

Mrs. Carney was born Feb. 14, 1918, in Archie, Mo., and lived in Independence for many years, moving to Warrensburg after she retired from Sears. She was a past member of Immanuel Baptist Church, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg.

Her survivors include her husband, Bert Carney of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Nancy Herron, Knob Noster, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Jackie Cage, Warrensburg; a sister, Rosalee Hutcheson, Independence; two grandchildren, Christie Herron and Michael Herron; and two great-grandsons, Jacob and Benjamin Herron.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.

ROSALIE STONE

Rosalie Stone, 86, Independence, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Stone was born Aug. 9, 1912, in Weston, Mo. She worked at Neevel Manufacturing for more than 30 years. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy in 1989 and one daughter, Betty Walley in 1987.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Lee Stone, Independence; one sister, Stattie Poos, Platte City, Mo.; two brothers, Robert Hessen Flow, Leavanworth, Kan., and Bud Hessen Flow, Kansas City, Kan.; one granddaughter, Chrystal Cox; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice.

ROBERT SEALY TULEY

Robert Sealy Tuley, 81, Independence, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Tuley was born March 4, 1917, in Independence where he lived his entire life. He was a division timekeeper for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 39 years. He retired in 1979. He was a member of the Burlington Veterans-Transportation and Communications Local Union 921. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

His survivors include his wife Ruth, of the home.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Woodlawn cemetery under the direction of Speaks Suburban Chapel.
