MARY E. CANNON

Mary Elizabeth Cannon, 92, Independence, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at Independence Health Care Center.

She was born January 1, 1907, in Independence. She graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, in 1924, from Kansas City Teacher's College in 1926 and from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1960. She was a teacher for 25 years in the Kansas City School District and retired from Rock Creek School in 1969.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Independence, where she was a member of the Fellowship Class, the Good Samaritan Group, the United Methodist Women and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was president of the PTA at Belton Elementary School and Independence Junior High School, and also served as president of the PTA Council of Independence. During World War II she was chairperson of the Women's Division of the Seventh & Eight Bond Drives in Independence. She was a member of the Independence Pioneer Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution and of the DuBois Family Association of New Paltz, New York.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cannon, in 1995, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage, and daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Callen, in 1954.

Survivors include a son, Donald Charles Cannon and his wife Delores Ruth Cannon of Minden, La.; four grandchildren, Nancy Susan Cannon of Baytown, Texas, Barbara Jean Cannon Szanton and husband Andrew of Somerville, Mass., Gregory James Cannon of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Thomas William Cannon and wife Michelle of Springfield, Mo., and one great grandson, Benjamin Cannon Szanton.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, July 26, at First United Methodist Church, Independence, with burial in Mt. Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday at the church.

ROBERT L. WRIGHT

Robert Leon Wright, 76, Independence, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Wright was born Jan. 27, 1923, in Kingsland, Ark. He was a lift truck operator for the GAF Corp. for many years, and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He attended church at the Sheffield Family Life Center, and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Alberta Wright of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Walter "Corky" Schauwecher, Holden, Mo., Linda and Kenneth Culp, Anderson, Ind., and Roberta and Richard Vargas, Independence; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Wright, Houston; and one sister, Anita Sutterfield, Southaven, Miss.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Sheffield Family Life Center Building Fund.

CLIFTON G. THOMPSON

Clifton Gene Thompson, 70, Arcola, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Mo.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Brumback Funeral Home, Stockton, Mo.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond, Mo.

Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

SHARON LEE DOSS

Sharon Lee Doss, 57, Independence, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at her home.

She was born Jan. 13, 1941, in Hale, Mo. She had lived in Jackson County since 1953, and was a graduate of Northeast High School. She worked as an apartment manager for the Prospect Studios Apartments, Gladstone.

She is survived by her daughters Wendy L. Precht, of the home, and Christine G. Orr, Kansas City; one son, Tim W. Precht, Kansas City; two brothers, Gary Doss and Ronnie Doss, Independence, and Steve Doss, Lawrence, Kan.; and a sister, Henrietta Hill, Independence.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Avalon cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel.

All arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel.

JACQUELINE W. "JACKIE" DAVIS

Jacqueline W. "Jackie" Davis, 79, Blue Springs, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Davis was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Kansas City and had lived in the Independence area most of her life. She was the manager of Fun House Pizza for 30 years, and attended Waldo Avenue Baptist Church in Independence for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rutherford E. Davis, and a daughter, Melanie White.

Her survivors include her children, Dana Kinney, and husband, Jerry, and Robin Nichols, all of the home, Rudy Davis, and wife Kelly, Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Nita Davis, and husband Mike, Garden City, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, Dan Kinney, Karen Terry, Melony Friend, Glen Nichols, Rudy Davis Jr., Kathy Davis, Jacque and Rob Mittelstadt, and Mariah and Michael Davis Jr.; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Martin Hopkins, Independence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery, Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, 158 W. 29th St., New York City, N.Y. 10001-5300.

ROBERT E. THOMPSON JR.

Robert E. Thompson Jr., 67, Oak Grove, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Independence, and was a lifelong area resident. He was owner/operator of Thompson Tax Service for the past 30 years. He was an Eagle Scout and an honorary member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He attended Colbern Road RLDS Church.

His survivors include his wife, Joyce R. Thompson of the home; three sons, and two daughters-in-law, Tommy G. and Barbara

Thompson, Independence, Gary W. Thompson, Springfield, Mo., and Jerry D. and Wendi Thompson, Lexington, Mo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tina L. and Doug Hamilton, Independence, and Teresa L. and Bob Meek, Springfield; his father, Robert E. Thompson Sr.; a brother, Russell P. Thompson, Independence; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Colbern Road RLDS Church. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

LEO P. SPIELBUSCH

Leo P. Spielbusch, 85, Independence, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at the Independence Manor Care Center.

Mr. Spielbusch was born Nov. 13, 1913, in Louisburg, Kan. He worked for Armco Steel for 37 years, retiring in1976. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the Normandy invasion, and was a member of American Legion Post 340, Sugar Creek. He was a member of the Nativity of Mary parish.

His survivors include his wife, Frances Spielbusch, four children and their spouses, David and Luella Spielbusch, Glen and Nancy Spielbusch, Brian and Karen Spielbusch and Elaine Spielbusch; two sisters, Margaret Theis and Mary Seck; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, 10017 E. 36th St. Terr., Independence. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sheil Colonial Chapel.

HELEN E. O'CONNOR

Helen Elizabeth Heiler O'Connor, 87, Kansas City, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Research Medical Center.

Mrs. O'Connor was born June 29, 1911, in Kansas City. She was a graduate of St. Vincent's Academy. She worked for Dunn and Bradstreet from 1929 to 1932, Army Corps of Engineers from 1933 to 1946, Suny Binghamton from 1961 to 1978. Her husband, James F. O'Connor, died in 1969.

Her survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and Robert Thayne, Kansas City, and Patricia O'Connor-Allen and Joseph Allen, Vestal, N.Y.; one brother, Francis Heiler, Kansas City; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Thayne Richards, James, Mary, John and Edward Thayne, and Sean, Bradford and Maggie Allen; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Lynn Thayne.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 tonight at Bernadette Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Johnson City, N.Y. Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 tonight at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity, 3738 Tracy Ave., Kansas City, Mo. 64109. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sheil Colonial Chapel, Raytown.

DORA B. KLAMM

Dora Belle Klamm, 88, Independence, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Klamm was born Sept. 16, 1910, in Knob Noster, Mo. She was a member of the Restoration Branch Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Phillip Klamm in 1971.

Her survivors include her children, Donald Klamm, Glendale, Ariz., Joan Mannering, Independence, and Patricia Bolingbroke, Lamoni, Iowa; grandchildren, Debra Price, Dianna Wasser, Susan Knight, Steve Curtis, Sandi Knight, Tanya Finger and Michelle Ballantyne; great-grandchildren, Travis and Cassie Wasser, Amanda, Aaron and Alisha Knight, Erica, Eddie and Alyse Knight, Olivia and Sylvia Finger, and Taylor and Ashlyn Ballantyne; brothers, Elmer and Chris Petre and Arthur Petre of the home; two sisters, Mary Halter and Maude Petre; a half sister, Wanda Willey; and three stepsisters, Lucille, Lillian and Helen.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

JOHN J. WALSH

John J. Walsh, 28, Independence, died Sunday, July 26, 1998.

Mr. Walsh was born March 5, 1970, in Kansas City and lived in the area most of his life. He worked as a cabinet maker. He attended Fort Osage High School.

His survivors include a son, Jeremy Walsh, Independence; a daughter, Courtney Walsh, Independence; his mother and stepfather, Marcella and David Oliver, Independence; his father and stepmother, Gene and Donna Walsh, Independence; his maternal grandmother, Marcella Hays, Independence; his paternal grandmother, Grace Walsh, Kansas City; two sisters, Stephanie Pratt, Blue Springs, and Susan Smith, St. John`s, Virgin Islands; and two stepbrothers.

Services will be 8 p.m. Monday at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Sunshine Center, 607 W. Lexington, Independence.

ANNA B. BROWN

Anna B. Metzler Brown, 93, Kansas City, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at the Truman Medical Center-East Care Center in Kansas City.

Mrs. Brown was born Oct. 25, 1904, in Gove, Kan., and lived in Colorado, Kansas and Missouri before moving to McCracken, Kan. She moved to Independence in 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Brown, in 1988, one son, Laurel L. Brown in 1947, and an infant daughter in 1932.

Her survivors include three sons, John W. Brown, Renton, Wash., Jim S. Brown, Daily, Calif., and Charles H. Brown, Independence; five daughters, Lee L. Trowbridge, Independence, Delpha Faro, Apple Valley, Calif., Susan J. Higdon, McCracken, Claria A. Cole, Gila Bend, Ariz., and Babe R. Duett, Mount Vernon, Mo.; one brother, Ernest Metzler, Ellis, Kan.; four sisters, Edna Delong, Nora Farbrough and Dora, all of Wichita, Kan., and Lena Adam, Twin Falls, Idaho; 32 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, Mo. Burial will be in Fristoe (Mo.) cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

EUNICE C. DAY

Eunice C. Day, 77, Clarksville, Tenn., died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at the Montgomery County Nursing Home, Clarksville.

Mrs. Day was born April 30, 1921, in Linn, Mo. She was a homemaker and a Protestant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Eugene Day.

Her survivors include a son, Dennis V. Day, Clarksville; a daughter, Sandra L. Hildon, Independence; two brothers, Herbert Vaughan, Linn, and Nelson Vaughan, Modesta, Calif.; a sister, Loretta Howard, Sedalia, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

No services are planned. McReynolds-Nave & Larson of Clarksville are in charge of arrangements.

LAWRENCE N. FRANKLIN

Lawrence N. Franklin, 77, Independence, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at his daughter`s home in Blue Springs.

Mr. Franklin was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Long Lane, Mo., and had lived in Independence for the past 42 years. He retired in 1986 from the Ford Motor Co. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, VFW Post 1000 and Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the recipient of the Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Patricia Franklin, in 1994.

His survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth A. and Rod Adams, Blue Springs, and Jeannie and Joe Chop, Sioux City, Iowa; a brother, Ralph Franklin, Olathe, Kan.; a sister, Norma Cordell, Bartlesville, Okla.; a granddaughter, Lindsey Lee Adams; and four grandsons, Zachary S. Adams, David Chop, Tom Chop and Keith Chop.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kan. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, where a poppy service will be at 7 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Hope Hospice Fund, in care of the Truman Heartland Foundation, 300 N. Osage St., Independence, Mo. 64050.

EMMA PACK

Emma Pack, 96, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

She was born Oct. 19, 1901, in Independence and was raised in Blue Springs. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Blue Springs.

Her survivors include two nieces, Sally Meyers, Blue Springs, and Judy Weyrauch, Dallas, Texas; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Services were 1 p.m. Friday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial was in Blue Springs cemetery.
