HAROLD L. "WOODY" WOOD

Harold L. "Woody" Wood, 70, Buckner, Mo., died Friday, May 1, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Wood was born April 8, 1928, in Kansas City and had lived in Buckner for the past 38 years. He was a millwright for Armco Steel for 41 years, retiring in 1986, and was a member of Sheffield Masonic Lodge 625.

His survivors include his wife, Betty J. Wise Wood of the home; a son, Harold L. "Sonny" Wood Jr., Odessa; a daughter, Linda D. Brown, Brush Prairie, Wash.; two brothers, Darrell Wood, Kansas City, and Leonard Wood, Independence; four sisters, Bernice Davis, Copperopolis, Calif., Joan Boothe, Springfield, Mo., Dora May Brown, Chillicothe, Mo., and Juanita Cornett, Independence; two grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial services with Masonic services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home, Buckner; cremation. The family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army or to the Blue Springs Hospice.

NOBLE E. ANDERSON

Noble Earl Anderson, 76, Holden, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at the Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg.

Mr. Anderson was born March 22, 1922, in Kaiser, Mo., and lived in Independence before moving to Holden in 1961. He worked for the GAF Building Materials Corp. in Kansas City for 20 years, and was a life member of the Johnson County (Mo.) Coon Hunters Club. His wife, Joan J. Hoff Anderson, died in 1995.

His survivors include two sons, Calvin Leroy Anderson, Lee`s Summit, and Melvin Lee Anderson, Belton, Mo.; one daughter, Dr. Connie E. Anderson, Independence; a companion, Connie Talley, Holden; one sister, Maxine Bond, Eldon, Mo.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Elm Spring cemetery, Kingsville, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden.

KENNETH E. COX

Kenneth Eugene Cox, 35, Independence, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Cox was born Feb. 19, 1963, in Kansas City. He had worked for Anderson`s Transmission, and was an avid fisherman.

His survivors include his wife, Kathy Cox, Independence; one stepdaughter, Tyetta Pennington, Kansas City; his mother, Marjorie Cox, and his father and stepmother, Gerald and Rose Cox, all of Independence; his grandmother, Ruby LaGore, Hale, Mo.; three brothers, Tim Cox, Pasadina, Texas, Steven Cox, Leawood, Kan., and David Cox, Independence; four sisters, Elizabeth Gardner, Lafayette, La., Nancy Taussig and Sarah Cox, both of Independence, and Kathleen Clay, Kansas City; nine nieces; and nine nephews.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Raytown. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church.

LOU E. CURTIS

Lou Ella Curtis of Independence died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

Mrs. Curtis was born in Redland, Okla., and had lived in this area for seven years. She was a member of the St. Paul A.M.E. Church.

Her survivors include five daughters, Idella Toles, Bernice Hollinger, Joanne Goff and Barbara Staten, all of Tulsa, Okla., and Delmar Curtis of the home; one sister, Theola Dotson, Tulsa; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Camp Chapel A.M.E. Church in Tulsa. Burial will be in Green Acres cemetery, Tulsa. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City.

ELMER L. DAVIDSON

Elmer L. Davidson, 89, Independence, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

Mr. Davidson was born Oct. 29, 1908, in Chetopah, Kan., and moved to this area as a child. He was a garment cutter for Burlington Overall and Lan-Mar Manufacturing Co., and was a member of the Garment Cutters Union. He was a Kansas City Star carrier in northeast Kansas City, retiring in 1975, and a former member of St. Stephen`s Catholic Church.

His survivors include his wife of 70 years, Frances E. Davidson of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth H. and Barbara Davidson, St. Joseph, Mo., and Fred L. and Jean Davidson, Independence; one sister, Beatrice Thomas, Independence; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mark`s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Sheil Colonial Chapel, Raytown.

HOWARD F. LADE

Howard Franklin Lade, 82, Boise, Idaho, formerly of Independence, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at the Boise Care Center.

Mr. Lade was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Sumas, Wash. He had lived in Independence for 15 years. He was an electrician in the U.S. Navy, entering boot camp soon after high school and was discharged as lieutenant senior grade in 1963, including reserve time. He was in six major battles during World War II. After Navy duty, he was self-employed and continued employment in civil service for the U.S. Air Force. He was responsible for selling the property on which the Harry S. Truman Library was built. He attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, having served 52 years as an elder.

His survivors include his wife of 54 years, Viola Ruth Chelline Lade; five daughters, Cherylene Yoast, Auburn, Wash., Valerie Gray, Jonesport, Maine, Susanne Tovey and Dale Cusumano, both of Boise, and Wendy Jacobson, San Jose, Calif.; one sister, Dorothy Magnuson, Sedro Woolley, Wash.; two brothers, Richard Lade, Independence, and Don Lade, Concrete, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the RLDS Church in Boise. The family suggests contributions to Outreach International, P.O. Box 210, Independence, Mo. 64051. Arrangements are under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise.

ROBERT L. MALLETT

Robert L. Mallett, 78, Independence, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Mallett was born on April 3, 1920, in Kansas City, and had lived in this area for 35 years. He was a farmer in Smithville, Mo., for 40 years, and was co-owner of the Swift & Henry Livestock Commission. He served on the Board of Directors for Spelman Memorial Hospital of 18 years, and was a member of the Clay County Board of Adjustments, Smithville School Board and the Clay County Zoning Board. He attended the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was an Army veteran of World War II.

His survivors include his wife, Jane Fairbanks Mallett of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert G. and Ann Mallett, Smithville; one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Gary Chatburn, Tulsa; three sisters, Martha Jane Dickson, Smithville, Joyce Mann, Walnut Creek, Calif., and Betty Smith, Malibu, Calif.; three grandsons, Mark Chatburn, John Chatburn and David Mallett; a niece, Bonnie Dickson, Kansas City, and two nephews and three nieces in California.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. A gathering of friends will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the fammily suggests contributions to the Parkinson`s Association of Greater Kansas City or the Highlands RLDS Church building fund.

ROBERT P. RHODES

Robert Preston Rhodes, 67, Buckner, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Rhodes was born Dec. 23, 1930, in Independence, and was a lifelong Buckner resident. He farmed and operated a dairy in Buckner. He was a member and trustee of the Buckner United Methodist Church, and was a Navy veteran.

His survivors include his wife of 42 years, Joyce Rhodes of the home; one son, Martin Rhodes, Springdale, Ark.; two daughters, Robin Kerr, Austin, Texas, and Renee Marshall, Blue Springs; one sister, Mary Jeffreys, Laguna Hills, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Buckner United Methodist Church, 109 S. Hudson. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the church. The family suggests contributions to the church, 109 S. Hudson, P.O. Box 318, Buckner, Mo. 64016.

HERSHALL E. LEWALLEN

Hershall "Gene" Lewallen, 57, of Kansas City died Thursday, August 19, 1999.

Mr. Lewallen was born Jan. 26, 1942.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Lewallen, two daughters Tammy Marshall and Penny Colorado, a step-daughter, Kathy Merritt, two sisters, Barbara Collins and Kay Ezzell, a brother, George Schmale, and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Charter Funerals Northland Chapel, 77 N.E. 72nd St., Gladstone, Mo. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The service will be conducted by his son-in-law, the Reverend Mark H. Merritt. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. cemetery in Smithville, Mo.

JOAN A. BERGMANN

Joan A. Bergmann, 73, Lee's Summit, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Bergmann was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Syracuse, N.Y., before moving to Lee's Summit 12 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Bergmann in 1986.

Her survivors include a son, Bill Bergmann, Lee's Summit; a daughter, Doreen Bergmann, Brooklyn; a sister, Dorothy Gioggia, Tom's River, N.J.; a brother, Robert Perkins, New York City; two grandchildren, Jean Homer and Bill Bergmann; and six great-grandchildren, Lance, Samantha, Jacqueline, William, Lucas and Courtney.

Services will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley; cremation. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

LELA BROOKS

Lela Brooks, 87, Independence, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, Mo.

Mrs. Brooks was born Dec. 19, 1910, in Joplin, and had lived most of her life in Joplin, moving to Independence in 1971. For 30 years, until 1965, she and her husband, Arthur Brooks, owned and operated the former Eastside Ice and Fuel Co. She was also a sales clerk at several stores in Independence, including Elko Camera Store and Venture department store, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Joplin RLDS congregation and the Walnut Park RLDS congregation in Independence. She was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the church's professional women's organization. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Logan Dodge in 1934, and her second husband, Arthur Floyd Brooks, in 1958.

Her survivors include a daughter, Doris Jean Heath, Independence; a son, Douglas Brooks, Joplin; two stepsons, Roy Brooks, Independence, and Jim Brooks, Joplin; a stepdaughter, Ruby Hunt, Payson, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were Aug. 17 at Parker Mortuary, Joplin. Burial was in Osborne Memorial cemetery. A memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Walnut Park RLDS Church, 23rd and Pearl streets.

JUDITH A. CAUDLE

Judith Ann Caudle, 53, Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at St. Luke's Northland Hospital.

Mrs. Caudle was born in Joplin, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area most of her life. She had been a nurse at the VA Medical Center for more than 15 years. She was a board member of the American Nurses Association. She was an MSN, RN, CS and a CVN. She was a member of the RLDS Stone Church.

Her survivors include her husband, Meryl Caudle of the home; a son, Rodney Caudle, Independence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carmen and Brett McKinley, Japan, and Angelia and Bill Rold, Independence; her mother, Mary Troyer, Independence; a brother, Jerry Troyer, Rolla, Mo.; a sister, Gayle Newland, Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Shannon and Tyler.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the RLDS Stone Church. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Vascular Nurses Association.

LYNDELL C. FULKERSON

Lyndell Clyde Fulkerson of Blue Springs, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Fulkerson was born Aug. 3, 1937, in Sikeston, Mo. He was a retired Navy veteran, and a 30-year member of American Legion Post 499 in Blue Springs. He was also a member of 40/8 Voiture Trois Jackson County.

His survivors include his mother, Audrey Fulkerson, Henson, Kan.; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Kathy Lewis of Blue Springs.

Cremation. Military memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at American Legion Post 499 on South Missouri 7. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley, with Veterans Field of Honor.

IRENE H. LOWRY

Irene H. Lowry, 81, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Lowry was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Worthington, Minn. She was a beautician, and attended Good Shepherd Christian Church. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Junction City, Kan., Wa Tan Ye, NARF, and Eastern Star Lodge Melita Chapter 116 in Junction City.

Her survivors include two sons, Charles Lowry, Wichita, Kan., and Craig Lowry, Tacoma, Wash.; a daughter, Janet Sawyer, Blue Springs; a sister, Vera Osberg, Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Sac City (Iowa) cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

HELEN L. McCORMICK

Helen Louise Ratkay McCormick, 83, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, in Independence.

Mrs. McCormick was born May 17, 1915, in Kansas City, Kan. She had worked at the Lake City Arsenal and was a member of the One By Ones Square Dancing Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Niles McCormick and her son, Howard S. Brown.

Her survivors include four daughters, Frances Breen, Independence, Michaline Clevenger, Fort Myers, Fla., Vera Wymore, Kansas City, and Marie Crawford, Wheatland, Mo.; a brother, James Ratkay, Homeland, Calif.; two sisters, Frances Henrig, Raytown, and Margaret Fulton, Gladstone, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Shiel Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Floral Hills. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel, where the rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m.
