JOHNNIE F. SNYDER

Johnnie F. Snyder, 68, Lowry City, Mo., formerly of this area, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at St. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City.

Mr. Snyder had lived in the Kansas City area for 35 years. He was a retired sprinkler fitter for the Century Fire Protection Co., and a member of Local 314.

His survivors include his wife, Kathryn Snyder of the home; two sons, Steve Snyder and Danny Snyder, and two daughters, Janet McCarty and Deborah Klotz, all of Independence; one sister, Sue Kilgore, Cameron, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Lowry City. Burial will be in Lowry City cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola, Mo.

GERMAINE S. DeCAVELE

Germaine S. DeCavele, 93, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. DeCavele was born April 12, 1905, in Belgium. She was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church. Her husband, Julian DeCavele, died in 1993.

Her survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Marie and Ray Novak, Sugar Creek, and Mary Ann and Paul Swercinski, Roach, Mo.; five grandsons, Michael, Robert, Kevin, Donald and Ronald; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1401 N.E. 42nd Terrace. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, Gladstone, Mo. The family suggests contributions to St. Gabriel's.

RONALD L. HAIN

Ronald Lee Hain, 52, Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Hain was born March 28, 1946, in Kansas City and was a lifelong Independence resident. He worked for the Octopus Car Wash.

His survivors include one son, Ronald Anthony; four daughters, Shawna, Tabetha, Becky and Rhonda; his parents, Harry J. and Virginia Hain of Independence; and four brothers, Mark, Steve, Mike and Kevin Hain.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the family.

JOYCE A. MACKISON

Joyce A. Mackison, 65, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Mackison was born in Canton, Mo., and had lived in Lewistown, Mo., before moving to this area 22 years ago. She had been a receptionist with Mackison Insurance Agency for eight years. She was a member of the Casbah Darlings of the Ararat

Shrine. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints.

Her survivors include her husband, Ed Mackison of the home; three sons, Steven A. Mackison, Omaha, Neb., Edward R. "Skip" Mackison, Lee's Summit, and Allen R. "Rick" Macksion, Blue Springs; two brothers, Robert Baker, Mendon, Ill., and William Baker, Tioga, Ill.; a sister, Margaret Conrad, Peculiar, Mo.; a half brother, Larry Baker, Taylor, Mo.; a half sister, Linda Tedisco, Plainfield, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Speaks Suburban Chapel.

FRED L. TIGNOR

Fred L. Tignor, 85, Independence, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, in the Rosewood Health Center.

He was born Dec. 4, 1913, in Independence. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Tignor was an electronics technician for the Navy for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and held the priesthood office of elder.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Tignor, of the home; son Stephen Tignor, Escondido, Calif; sister Grace Thompson, Independence; and two grandchildren, Drakos McGuire and Marina Tignor.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date in California. The family suggests contributions to the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund or Outreach International.

Arrangements are under the direction of Speaks Midtown Chapel.

WILLIAM R. DODGE

William Ray Dodge, 84, Raytown, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at the Park Place Care Center.

Mr. Dodge was born Jan. 26, 1914, in Hynes, Iowa, and had lived in Northeast Kansas City for 41 years. He had lived at the care center for the past 44 years. He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two children, Sheila and William Ray.

His survivors include his wife of 51 years, Helen Dodge; two sons, Billy Dodge, Lawson, Mo., and Marvin Dodge, Paola, Kan.; one daughter, Joan Houts, Chilhowee, Mo.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Sheil Colonial Chapel, Raytown. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

VIVIAN SHORT

Vivian "Spider" Short, 80, Lincoln, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at the Santa Fe Trails Care Center in Lexington, Mo.

Mrs. Short was born Sept. 7, 1918, in Lincoln, Mo. She married Kenneth Short March 8, 1938. They lived in Independence until 1975. She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, in 1986.

Her survivors include two sons, Jerry Short and his wife, Gail, Chilhowee, Mo., and David Short and his wife, Sharon, Independence; four daughters, Joy Nevels, and her husband, Jim, Lexington, Mo., Donna Skellanger, Okechobee, Fla., Janice Franklin, and her husband, Duane, Lone Jack, and Debra Taylor, and her husband, Larry, Independence; two sisters, Irene Neas and Beulah Moor, both of Lincoln, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Davis-Miller Funeral Home in Lincoln. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant cemetery in Lincoln. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Mount Pleasant Church in care of the Davis-Miller Funeral Home.

JAROD A. CARTER

Jarod Anthony Carter, 18, Buffalo, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999.

Jarod was born in Dade County, Fla., had lived in Independence and had been a student at William Chrisman High School before moving to Buffalo about a year ago. He was a student at the area Vo-Tech School. He was a Baptist by faith.

His survivors include his mother, Marian Carter; his father and stepmother, David and Arla Carter; his brother, Jason Carter, Independence; his stepbrother, Jon Pruitt, and stepsister, Brandy Pruitt, both of Independence; two half sisters, Vanessa and Susan Carter, Buffalo; his maternal grandmother, Betty Burgess, LaPort, Ind.; and his paternal grandmother, Irene Carter, Warsaw, Mo.

Services were Wednesday in Buffalo.

DOROTHY M. PHELPS

Dorothy M. Phelps, 76, Sugar Creek, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at the Regency Care Center.

Mrs. Phelps was born Feb. 16, 1922, in Sugar Creek. She worked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for 27 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of American Legion Post 340 Ladies Auxiliary, Sugar Creek. Her husband, Richard C. Phelps, died in 1986.

Her survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Arlie Cummins, Bates City, and Janice and Richard Smith, Cole Camp, Mo.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronnie Hudson, Independence, and Jim and Charlene Hudson, Sugar Creek; two sisters, Irene Parker and Pearl Crohn, and one brother, John William Gallup, all of Independence; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the National Hospice Association, 7611 State Line, Suite 210, Kansas City, Mo 64144.

ROBERT G. BENNETT

Robert George Bennett, 68, Blue Springs, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Mr. Bennett was born Aug. 26, 1930, in St. Louis. He was a salesman for Schroer Manufacturing, and was a Christian Scientist by faith.

His survivors include his wife, Janice Bennett of the home; one son, Mark Bennett, Verona, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resurrection cemetery, St. Louis. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions to the American Leukemia Society.

LEONA C. MITCHELTREE

Leona C. Mitcheltree, 83, Independence, died Monday, March 1, 1999.

Mrs. Mitcheltree was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1934 graduate of William Chrisman High School. She worked in the county records office and later for Chicago Title, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Independence, and was active in the Sunshine Circle of the United Methodist Women.

Her survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Vikki Mitcheltree, Independence; three nephews, Stephen Craig, Tulsa, Okla., James L. Craig III, Guam, and David Craig, Hope Hills, N.C.; and one niece, Susan Craig, New Mexico.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel.

THOMAS L. GIBSON SR.

Thomas L. Gibson Sr., 75, Independence, died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at the Liberty Hospital.

Mr. Gibson was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Lexington, Tenn., moving to this area in 1967. He had been a district engineer for the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Kansas City for 34 years, retiring in 1984. He served in the 99th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tenn. He attended St. Paul`s United Methodist Church. He was a member of VFW Post 1000 and the American Legion 21. He had been a member of Mount Washington Masonic Lodge 614. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Royal Order of Ducks, Raytown Shrine Club, Raytown Scottish Rite, Ararat Shrine Temple, Royal Order of Jesters and a member and past president of the Oriental Guides and past potentate`s aid. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Naomi, in 1988.

His survivors include his wife, Dixie Gibson of the home; a son, Thomas L. Gibson Jr., Independence; a stepson, Mark Divelbiss, Kansas City; a daughter, Shirley J. Foote, Bridgewater, Va.; a sister, Mary Ella Scruggs, Kevil, Ky.; three grandsons; two great-grandsons; and a niece and nephew.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Lexington (Tenn.) cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel, where Masonic services will be at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Shriner`s Children`s Hospital.

MARY E. HAMBURG

Mary E. Hamburg, 86, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Hamburg was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Kansas City. She was a member of St. Ann`s Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Richard Hamburg in October 1997.

Her survivors include three sons, John Lyons, Coeur d`Alene, Idaho, Richard Hamburg, Blue Springs, and Thomas Hamburg, Manhattan, N.Y.; a brother, William Morgan, Kansas City; two sisters, Loretta Reeves, Olathe, Kan., and Virginia McMillan, Zephyrhills, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Denise L. Hamburg, Independence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Cowgill (Mo.) cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

RUTH L. STANLEY

Ruth L. Stanley, 77, Topeka, Kan., died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at a Topeka hospital.

Mrs. Stanley was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Independence, and had lived in Topeka since 1972. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri and Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa. She was a registered nurse. She was a nurse in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served as a nurse at V. A. hospitals in Kansas City and Topeka. She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Stanley on July 27, 1997.

Her survivors include two sons, Robert Stanley, Chico, Calif., and William Stanley, Boulder, Colo.; a sister, Joy Browne, Independence; and a brother, Donald Harder, San Diego, Calif.

Cremation and private family services have been held. Arrangements were under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel, Topeka.
