DONALD W. MEYERS

Donald W. "Hamburger" Meyers, 55, Odessa, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Meyers was born July 10, 1941, in Concordia, Mo., and had lived there until moving to Odessa in 1970. He was a 1959 graduate of Concordia High School. He retired from the Leed`s General Motors Plant in Kansas City in 1991. He was currently employed by Missouri Oak & Table Factory, Bates City. He was a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church, Oak Grove. He was a retired member of the UAW Local 93, Kansas City. He was a veteran of the National Guard, Lexington, Mo., Armory.

His survivors include his wife, Liz Meyers of the home; two sons, Dwayne Meyers, Chillicothe, Mo., and Ernie Meyers, Odessa; a daughter, Karen Dieckhoff, Blue Springs; his mother, Paula S. Meyers, Concordia; three brothers, Ernest Lee Meyers, Gary Dean Meyers and David D. Meyers, all of Concordia; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the New Life Assembly of God Church, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Mount Tabor cemetery, Odessa. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa. The family suggests contributions to the church building fund.

RAYMOND D. ZINSER

Raymond D. Zinser, 74, Manassas, Va., died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Zinser was a naval aviator during World War II, worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence during the Korean War and served in the Naval Intelligence Reserves for several years afterwards. He earned a doctorate degree in social psychology from the University of Chicago, and taught at Graceland College for more than 35 years as well as at Drake University, Kansas University and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He was also an author, public speaker and an international management consultant, giving workshops in the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, Germany, Ireland, Canada and Israel. He also visited and/or conducted research in China, Austria, Switzerland, England and Mexico. For the past 11 years, he worked as a marketing and management consultant in the Washington, D.C. area, and was a member of the Washington, D.C., Rotary. He was active in the Restoration Churches, after having been an elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for much of his life.

His survivors include his wife of 45 years, Celia R. Zinser of the home; two sons, Lee D. Zinser, Sterling, Va., and Kenneth J. Zinser, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Jana J. Zinser, Castle Rock, Colo., and Lisa J. Zinser, Manassas; a brother, Allen Zinser, Orange, Calif.; a sister, Betty Lou Hinderks, Overland Park, Kan.; and 10 grandchildren.

He was buried with military honors on Feb. 11 at Quantico National cemetery in Triangle, and memorial services were held on Feb. 12 at the Blasius-Baker Funeral Home in Manassas. The family suggests contributions, in his memory, to the Hospice of Northern Virginia, P.O. Box 922, Falls Church, Va., 22040-0922.

CARROL L. CRAWFORD

Carrol Leo Crawford, 68, Leeton, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at the VA Medical Center, Kansas City.

Mr. Crawford was born June 8, 1929, in New Market, Iowa, and had lived in Bates City and Cement, Okla., before moving to Leeton. He retired as a staff sergeant from the United States Army after more than 21 years. He served in Vietnam and was awarded a Bronze Star. He owned Carrol`s Garage in Bates City from 1970 to 1977. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Lee Crawford on July 16, 1967.

His survivors include his wife, Bertha Crawford of the home; five sons, Rodney Crawford, Weatherford, Texas, Clayton "Butch" Crawford, Odessa, Kenneth Crawford, Odessa, Charles "Chuck" Crawford, Blue Springs, and John Crawford, Grain Valley; a daughter, Carrol Tompkins, Blue Springs; two brothers, Gene Crawford, Independence, and Donald Crawford, Biloxi, Miss.; three sisters, Lillian Koger, Lowry City, Mo., Janet Glessinger, Papillion, Neb., and Pat Booker, Missouri Valley, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in the Odessa cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

RUBY R. DOUGHERTY

Ruby Ruth Dougherty, 71, Independence, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Dougherty was born Dec. 17, 1925, in Norfork, Ark., and had lived most of her life in Independence. She was a member of the Pleasant Heights RLDS Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lee Dougherty in 1978. Her survivors include a son, Gary Dougherty, Blue Springs; her mother, Mary Watley, Windsor, Mo.; a sister, Ione Lloyd, Kansas City; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Jeff Dougherty.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

CHARLOTTE P. JOHNSON

Charlotte Pearl Campbell Johnson, 91, Lee`s Summit, formerly of Oak Grove, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, atLee`s Summit Hospital.

Mrs. Johnson was born Feb. 23, 1906, in Bates City and was a lifelong area resident. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove from the age of 11 and had served as a pianist for more than 50 years. She had also been a Sunday school teacher and a past president of the WMU. She was active in 4-H and the University of Missouri Extension Clubs. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 70 years, Walter Johnson on Sept. 30, 1996, and two sons, William Dennis Johnson and Dr. Gerald Laun Johnson.

Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Dr. Ray Morrison, Independence; a son, Walter Douglas Johnson, Bates City; two daughters-in-law, Judith C. Johnson, Independence, and Doris Short Johnson, Henderson, Ky.; 10 grandchildren, Laurinda Lee Russell, William Dennis Johnson II, Jana Lynn Waits, Jayne Ann Williams, Jeffrey Lane Johnson, James Truett Johnson, Dr. Henry Ross Morrison, Dr. Robert Ray Morrison, Brian Douglas Johnson and Julie Rae Johnson; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Memorial Church Fund, P.O. Box129, Oak Grove.

HELEN R. ROBB

Helen R. Robb, Warsaw, 85, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, Oct.14, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Robb was born Feb. 28, 1912, in Fristoe, Mo., and had lived in southern Benton County and Warsaw, Mo., before moving to Blue Springs in 1992. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw and was very active in helping to coordinate dinners at the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris Robb, on March 2, 1981.

Her survivors include a son, Michael R. Robb, and a daughter, Bonnie Sue Constance, both of Blue Springs; a sister, Blanche Allen, Lee`s Summit; five grandchildren, Doug Constance, Chris Constance, Keith Constance, Chris R. Robb, Jeff Robb and Kelly Oshel; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Warsaw. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Edna M. Morris

Edna M. Ruckman Morris, 86, Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at the Rosewood Health Center.

Mrs. Morris was born April 1, 1913, in Bellaire, Ohio, where she lived most of her life. She moved to this area in 1975. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Ruckman Sr., and one son, Edward E. Ruckman.

Her survivors include three sons, Ralph E. Ruckman, Canton, Ohio, and Bruce Ruckman and Gary Ruckman, both of Independence; three daughters, Mae Lasley, Nancy Lappert and Edna Rose Ruckman, all of Independence; 13 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 8076, Prairie Village, Kan.

HELEN K. HOWER

Helen Katherine Hower, 80, Kansas City, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at her home.

She was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Savannah, Mo. She worked as a master mail clerk for Business Men's Assurance Co. until retiring in 1976 after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Fairmount Christian Church.

Her survivors include two brothers, William Harold Hower, Overland Park, Kan., and C.M. Hower Jr., Kansas City; a sister, Eva I. Boyles, Kansas City; and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Savannah cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Kansas City. The family suggests contributions to the Fairmount Christian Church.

VICTORIA C. MARULLO

Victoria Carolyn Marullo, 46, Independence, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Marullo was born June 4, 1952, in Camp Roberts, Calif., and lived in San Antonio, Texas, before moving to this area in 1979. She received a bachelor`s degree in education from the University of Texas, and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence.

Her survivors include her husband, Lawrence M. Marullo, and two daughters, Vanessa Carolyn Marullo and Suzanna Kathryn Marullo, all of the home; her mother and stepfather, Norris and Carolyn Yates, San Antonio; her father, Roy A. Downey, Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Rebecca Elizabeth Bird, Chattanooga, Tenn.; a half sister, Laura Downey, Durango, Colo.; a brother, William Spencer Yates, San Antonio; and her grandmothers, Thelma Rogers-Cook, Independence, and Maggie Curry Yates, San Antonio.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, and 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Sunset Funeral Home, San Antonio. Entombment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, San Antonio. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Speaks, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.

FLOYD L. MATHEWS

Floyd L. Mathews, 53, Independence, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Mathews was born June 16, 1944, in Kansas City.

His survivors include three sisters, Mary Rogers, Kansas City, Cappy Manley, Blue Springs, and Barbara Cook, Las Vegas, Nev.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

JESS R. JONES

Jess R. Jones, 70, of Independence, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Jones was born Dec. 26, 1928, in Kansas City. He had been a member of the Grace Community Church since childhood, and was a member of Carpenter's Local No. 61 for 33 years. He was preceded in death by two sons, John Edward Jones and David Alan Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie Lee Jones, of the home; children Steven L. Jones, Jess R. Jones II, Carl Jones Charles Everett Jones, Tina Marie Jones and Pearl Jones, all of Independence; Rinda Fulton, Kansas City; Howard Lee Jones Polo, Mo.; Andrea Jones, Raytown; mother-in-law, Pearl Burhman, Kansas City, 27 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

All arrangements are under the direction of the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel.

EVERETT M. JONES

Everett M. Jones, 79, Independence, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at the home of his son.

Mr. Jones was born March 29, 1919, in Chillicothe, Mo., but lived in Independence most of his life. He was a milk processor for Bordens Dairy, Adams Dairy and the Merritt Dairy before his retirement. Mr. Jones was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a Baptist, and a member of Teamsters Local 552.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae E. Jones in 1989.

Survivors include four sons, Mason Leon Jones, Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., Richard L. Jones, Blue Springs, Randy L. Jones, Okla., and Robert L. Jones, Independence; three daughters, Macel L. Best and Rebecca M. Bradshaw, both of Independence, and Dixie L. Duncan, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Essie Haynes, Chillicothe; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.

LEWIS E. KRAMER

Lewis Earl Kramer, 71, Independence, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Kramer was born May 18, 1928, in Walker, Mo. He owned Kramer Construction and had been in the home building and construction industry for the past 45 years, retiring in 1992. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Newspaper Collectors Society of America, Home Builders Association, American Political Items Collectors, Bonniebrook Historical Society, Berlin Airlift Veterans Association, and Teamsters. He also did volunteer work at the Harry S. Truman Library.

His survivors include his wife of 48 years, Barbara Kramer of the home; two sons, Dennis E. Kramer and Donald R. Kramer, both of Independence; a daughter, Kim Brody, Wake Village, Texas; a sister, Ruth Barker, and a brother, Ralph Kramer, both of El Dorado Springs, Mo.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Truman Library.

LAWRENCE R. MURRY

Lawrence Ray Murry, 56, Odessa, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Monteray Park Nursing Home.

Mr. Murry was born Dec. 29, 1941, in Odessa, and had lived in Independence from 1965 to 1992 before moving to Blue Springs. He had been employed by Sears for more than 20 years and had also been employed by Sysco Food, Olathe, Kan. He was a 1959 graduate of Odessa High School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Odessa.

His survivors include a son, Michael R. Murry, Odessa; a sister, Marilyn Murry, Odessa; and a nephew, Tim Murry.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be the Odessa cemetery. Friends may call from noon until 7 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Heart of America Hospice, Kansas City, or to the American Diabetes Association.

MARY A. ZIVICKY

Mary A. Zivicky, 83, Sugar Creek, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at the Independence Health Care Center.

Mrs. Zivicky was born Dec. 25, 1914, in Sugar Creek. She was a seamstress, and a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church and the Slovak Lodge.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Messiah Lutheran Church, 613 S. Main St., Independence, Mo. 64050. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
