NATALIE SMIESZEK

Natalie Smieszek of Kansas City, Kan., died Monday, July 13, 1998.

Mrs. Smieszek was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Poland. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.

Her survivors include one daughter, Helen Barnhart of Blue Springs; and four grandchildren.

Services will be noon Thursday a the church. Burial will be in St. Mary`s cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel, Kansas City, where the rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer`s Association.

BERYL A. JONES

Beryl A. Jones, 91, Blue Springs, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Jones was born Sept. 23, 1907, in Cedar County, Mo. She was a seamstress, retiring around 1970. She was a member of the Plaza Heights Baptist Church. Her husband, Clifford C. Jones, died Oct. 20, 1975.

Her survivors include two sons, Charles Dwight Jones, and his wife, Deanne, Grain Valley, and Lannie Jones, Kansas City; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mabel Bland, El Dorado Springs, Mo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

SHIRLEY A. ROSS

Shirley Ann Ross, 62, Independence, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at the Rosewood Care Center.

Mrs. Ross was born July 27, 1936, in Hartville, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1979. She was the branch manager for the Raytown Missouri Department of Revenue and had worked in the Independence location for the past 17 years. She was a Methodist.

Her survivors include two sons, Matt Ross, Independence, and Parker Nicholson, Kansas City; two daughters, Michelle Ross, Independence, and Marcia Weber, Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Suzie Montgomery, Atlanta, and Betty Jean Spady, Salem, Ore.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

WILLIAM A. MUDD JR.

William A. Mudd Jr., 79, Grain Valley, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at Monterey Park Nursing home.

He had been a crane operator for Columbian Steele Co. for many years.

His survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, William F. and Pam Mudd, Grain Valley; a sister, Helen Tulipana, Independence; a brother, Grover Mudd, Florida; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Stephanie and Jerry Nagel, and Stacey and Marty Perry; and a great-granddaughter, Merideth Grace Perry.

As per his wishes, there will be no services. Friends are welcomed by the family any time.

ERNESTINE F. MURPHY

Ernestine F. Murphy, 92, Independence, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Murphy was born Feb. 3, 1906, in Springfield, Mo., and lived most of her life in the Kansas City area. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bud" Murphy, and a daughter, Cynthia Schieffer.

She is survived by a grandchild.

Services were today at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs. Burial was in St. Mary`s cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of McGilley Midtown Chapel.

JUANITA M. BARNHILL

Juanita M. Barnhill, 89, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Truman Medical Center East.

Mrs. Barnhill was born May 11, 1910, in Kansas City. She was a member of The Episcopal Church and had lived in Independence for 22 years.

Her survivors include three nieces and several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-great-niece and nephews.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Mount Washington cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

JACK E. VANDERPOOL

Jack E. Vanderpool, 67, Independence, died December 27, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Vanderpool was born in Plattsburg, Mo. He moved to Independence in 1971, having formerly resided in Kansas City. He was an electrical technician for Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, retiring in 1993. He was a lifetime member of the Sugar Creek VFW Post 3976. He served in the United States Navy and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of Korea, receiving a United States Service Medal.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Barbara Vanderpool; daughters and son-in-law, Donna Vanderpool, Independence, Terry Saye and Rolland Saye, Independence; and grandson Seth Saye, Independence.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in New Salem cemetery with V.F.W. Military honors. Friends may call from 10 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the funeral service. Family suggests contributions to the Disabled American Veterans, 4801 E. Linwood Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. 64158. Arrangements may be sent to New Salem Funeral Home, 1823 Blue Mills Road, Independence.

D. LORENE CODY

D. Lorene Cody, 73, Independence, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Cody was born July 28, 1925, in Blue Springs. She was a member of the Blue Springs Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sugar Creek Eagles, Aerie 3717 and was an active volunteer with Children`s Mercy Hospital.

Her survivors include her husband, Robert C. "Bob" Cody; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Mike Robb, Blue Springs, and Barbara and Jim Wilson, Aurora, Colo.; a brother, Lyle Boman, Aurora; a sister, Virginia Marshall, Aurora; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice of the Northland.

DOROTHY J. COLLUM

Dorothy J. Dull Collum, 74, Lee's Summit, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, at her home.

Mrs. Collum was born April 19, 1924. She attended schools in Otterville, Mo., and LaPlata, Mo., and graduated with honors from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo. She taught third and fourth grades in Fairfield, Iowa, and Davenport, Iowa, and in Novelty, LaPlata and Lee's Summit for a total of 334 years before retiring from Westview School in Lee's Summit in 1986. She was a member of the Lee's Summit United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter ET, Missouri State Teachers Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Retired Teachers Association of Missouri and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 282 of LaPlata.

Her survivors include her husband, John Collum of the home; her sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. David R. and Beth Collum, Hamilton, Mo.; Dr. Steven E. Collum and his wife, Dana, Springfield, Mo.; and her grandchildren, Jonathan David Collum and Joseph Benjamin Collum, Elizabeth Carrie Collum and Andrew James Collum.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Lee's Summit United Methodist Church. Burial will be in LaPlata cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lee's Summit Social Services, 108 Southeast 4th St., Lee's Summit, Mo. 64063.

MARGARET M. WALKER

Margaret Marie Walker, 83, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center.

Mrs. Walker was born March 21, 1915, in Warren, Minn., and had lived in Deerfield, Ill., Blue Springs and Branson, Mo., before moving to Excelsior Springs six years ago. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Deerfield. Her husband, Burr Walker, died in 1993.

Her survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Fred and Nancy Walker, Excelsior Springs, and Terry Walker, Lancaster, Pa.; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Frank Picheitti, Lake Forest, Ill.; one sister, Anne Alonzi, Deerfield; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

NOLA L. VOGT

Nola Lee Vogt, 72, Kansas City, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at her brother's home in Raytown.

Ms. Vogt was born June 15, 1926, in Joppa, Ill., and had lived in this area for 42 years. She was a clerk for the Stuart Hall Co. for more than 20 years, and was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church.

Her survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Mary Ellen Vogt, Raytown.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Gospel Assembly Church. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel.

BERARD C. BRESSON

Berard C. Bresson, 89, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Bresson was born June 14, 1908, in Kilbuck, Ohio, and had lived in Arizona for 24 years. He moved to Blue Springs 14 years ago. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1932, and was a member of the Catholic faith. He was very active in Scouting, and was a coach in several different sports. He was a teacher, coach and athletic director for the Western Military Academy in Alton, Ill., for several years, and also taught and coached in public schools. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael, in 1960.

His survivors include his wife, Traci Bresson of the home; two daughters, Virginia Konko, Blue Springs, and Paula Arnold, Alton; one son, Alan Bresson, Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, 704 Range St., Blue Springs; cremation. Friends may call from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

JAMES I. CASE

James I. Case, 55, Cameron, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at St. Luke`s Hospital, Kansas City.

Mr. Case was born Feb. 14, 1942, in Kansas City, and lived in Independence until moving to Cameron in 1967. He was an inspector for Trans World Airlines in Kansas City for the past 37 years, and was a route carrier for The Kansas City Star for 12 years. He graduated from North Kansas City High School, and was a member of the Restoration Branch in Independence and I.A.M. Union Local 1650 in Kansas City.

His survivors include his wife, Kay Morrison Case of the home; three daughters, Cheryl Shephard, St. Joseph, Mo., Debi Ayers, Parkville, Mo., and Saundra Neal, Independence; his father and stepmother, Warren and Nadine Case, Gladstone, Mo.;his mother and stepfather, Betty and Donald Clemens, Independence; one brother, Ronald Clemens, Independence; one sister, Nancy Pate, Liberty, Mo.; and six grandchildren.

Services were Thursday at the Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Burial was in Mound Grove cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Cameron Community Hospital.

ETHEL L. WATLING

Ethel L. Watling, 87, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Watling was born Dec. 12, 1910, in Collins, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1928. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross in association with Independence Regional, and was also a volunteer at the Truman Library. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Her survivors include her husband of 70 years, Wilbert A. Watling of the home; one son, Gary A. Watling, Blue Springs; one daughter, Sue Kathrun Jameson, Melbourne, Fla.; one sister, Georgie Crawford, Raytown; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.

RICHARD S. WHITE

Richard Sterling White, 69, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at the Independence Manor Care Center.

Mr. White was born Dec. 3, 1928, near Columbus, Mo., and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a steel worker for GST Steel for 44 years, retiring in 1994. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and was an endowment member of the National Rifle Association.

His survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marilyn White of the home; one son, Matthew Sterling White, Independence; his brothers and sisters, Sarah Edwards and Cameron White, both of Kansas City, Lilas Gibson and Carol Ray, both of Independence, and James White, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Patterson cemetery, Springfield, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Keith Worthington Chapter of the ALS Association or the Columbia Home Hospice.
