AGNES A. IDLEMAN

Agnes Alma Miller Idleman, 84, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Idleman was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Decatur, Ark. She was active in civic, school and Girl Scout activities, and was a talented artist and craft designer. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Diana Sue Idleman Webb.

Her survivors include her husband, Melvin Idleman of the home; one daughter, Carol Kay Idleman Gentry, Kansas City, Kan.; one son, David Ray Idleman, Independence; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. She will lie in state at the home, 1440 Ralston Ave., and friends and family may call until service time on Thursday.

CLYDE W. SWEEDEN JR.

Clyde William Sweeden Jr., 69, Pilot Grove, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, in Pilot Grove.

Mr. Sweeden was born Aug. 4, 1929, in Nashville, Ark., and grew up in Hot Springs, Ark. He retired in 1991 from Jack Bilt Lithograph, and was a member of GAIU 235. He was an Army veteran, and a member of American Legion Post 266, Pilot Grove. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of Mount Washington Masonic Lodge, Ararat Shrine, and was past president of the Jackson County Shrine Club. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

His survivors include his former wife, Josephine Sweeden; three daughters, Susie Sweeden Peden, Kathie Sweeden Gatteney and Margie Sweeden Hurd; a son, Darrell A. Sweeden; his mother, Susie Sweeden; two sisters, Mary Jewell Cooper and Lois Jones; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Brooking cemetery, Raytown. Friends may begin calling at 6 tonight at the chapel, with a Masonic service at 8 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Wings of Mercy Children's Transportation Fund, Ararat Shrine Temple, 5100 Ararat Drive, Kansas City, Mo. 64129.

SUE H. BRUEGGEMAN

Sue H. Brueggeman, 97, Lexington, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at the Country Care Boarding Home, Lexington.

Mrs. Brueggeman was born Oct. 2, 1901, in Lexington. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church, Lexington.

Her survivors include two daughters, Betty Ristine, Green Valley, Ariz., and Bonell Cravens, Independence; two granddaughters, Susan McNeal, Blue Springs, and Elizabeth Cring, Nashville, Tenn.; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Memorial Park cemetery, Lexington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the First Christian Church.

IVA B. GRIMM

Iva Belle Grimm, 76, Independence, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998.

Mrs. Grimm was born Oct. 17, 1921, in Adel, Iowa, and moved to Independence in 1980. She was a member of the River Boulevard Baptist Church, where she served as deacon and belonged to the W.M.U. She served on the Resident Council at The Groves, where she had lived since 1995. Her husband, Max Grimm, died in 1984.

Her survivors include two sons, Doug Grimm, Independence, and Merland Grimm, Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Peggy Short and Louise Stephens, both of Des Moines, Iowa, and Nellie Wamspher, New Hampton, Iowa; one brother, Nile Weaver, Aurora, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Wendy Price, Shelley Holt, and Jeremy, Rannie, Danny, Randy and Eddie Grimm; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be Saturday in Highland Memory Gardens, Des Moines. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Missouri Baptist Childrens Home, 11300 St. Charles Rock Road, Bridgeton, Mo. 63044.

NETTIE TOTTEN

Nettie Totten, 90, Independence, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at the Beverly Health Care Center.

Mrs. Totten was born Sept. 12, 1908, in Missouri. She was a homemaker. She was also Assembly of God by faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Totten; two sons, Cecil and Billy Totten; two daughters, Barbara Goza and Shirley Scroggins; and a granddaughter, Deborah Harrington.

Her survivors include a son, Gene Totten, Independence; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Webb-Freer Funeral home. Burial will be in the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

FRANK W. FERGUSON

Frank W. Ferguson, 76, Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Ferguson was born Dec. 8, 1921, in Independence. He was a masonry contractor. He was a member of the Gospel Center Ministry's, Denny's coffee club.

His survivors include two sons, Joseph Ferguson, Lee's Summit, and Lacy Ferguson, Independence; two daughters, Rowena R. Ferguson, Independence, and Refa R. Ferguson, Oceola, Mo.; two brothers, Robert Ferguson and Dean Ferguson, both of Independence; two sisters, Dorothy Tuttle and Ellen Hodges, both of Independence; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Independence Hospice, in care of the Independence Regional Hospital.

JOYCE I. RHOADS

Joyce Inez Rhoads, 86, Blue Springs, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at St. Mary's Manor of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Rhoads was born April 8, 1912, in Newton, Kan., and had lived in Branson, Mo., for more than 50 years, where she was the office manager for Continental Telephone Co. She attended the American Business College in Wichita, Kan., and was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Branson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram R. Rhoads in 1966, and a son, Douglas Edgar Rhoads in 1933.

Her survivors include a son, Hiram Mikel Rhoads, Buffalo, N.Y.; two daughters, Carrol Rhoads Lauer, St. Louis, and Ann Rhoads Stock, Blue Springs; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Following cremation, memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow in Ozark Memorial Park cemetery, Branson. The family suggests contributions to the church.

MARY E. BAUCOM

Mary Ellen Baucom, 79, Springfield, Mo., died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at the home of her son in Blue Springs.

Mrs. Baucom was born March 6, 1919, in Marshfield, Mo. She was a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the Grace Bible Baptist Church, Springfield. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah Jo Sneed.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Joyce Baucom, Blue Springs; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ruth and Jerry Patton, San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Virgil Haney, Longview, Wash., and John Haney, Springfield; two sisters, Wilma Williams, Gresham, Ore., and Norma Mitchel, Longview; two granddaughters, Andrea Lane and Carin Baucom; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Conway (Mo.) Community cemetery. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace Bible Baptist Church, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Carondelet/St. Mary`s Hospice, Blue Springs. Arrangements are under the direction of the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.

ILA E. BURKE

Ila E. Burke, 62, Sugar Creek, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Burke was born Aug. 12, 1936, in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. She had cared for children for more than 30 years and was affectionately known as "Aunt Ila."

Her survivors include her husband, Billy Burke of the home; one daughter, Tammy Rivera, and one son, Robert Holmes, both of Sugar Creek; one brother, Larry Paxton, Independence; two grandchildren, Zachary Rivera and Madelyn Holmes; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.

LEE E. OWEN SR.

Lee Earl Owen Sr., 67, Bates City, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Owen was born Aug. 29, 1931, in Kansas City, and had lived in Lee's Summit and Independence before moving to Bates City in 1979. He was a truckdriver and had been employed by John Buckley Trucking Co. from 1978 to1984, Merritt Foods 1984 to 1988 and TESCO Drive Away Co. from 1988 to 1990. He had served in the Marines during the Korean War. He was a member of the Class of 1949 at North East High School. He was a member of Teamsters Local 41, Kansas City.

His survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Owen of the home; five sons and two daughter-in-laws, Lee E. Owen Jr., Greg and Bonnie Owen, and Charles P. Owen, all of Bates City, Aaron L. and Mary Owen, Holden, Mo., and Marty J. Owen, Oak Grove; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda L. and Calvin Hyatt, Lee's Summit, and Jennifer M. and Harvey Roberts, Bates City; his mother, Florence Owen Patterson, Bates City; a brother, Jack Owen, Bates City; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Lavelock cemetery, Hardin, Mo. The family suggests contributions to the American Red Cross.

COLIN McDOWELL

Colin McDowell, 23, Independence, died Friday, June 18, 1999.

Mr. McDowell was born in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. He worked at Burger King in Independence and had recently been selected Employee of the Month. He was a 1995 graduate of William Chrisman High School, and was a member of the Eden Heights RLDS Church.

His survivors include his parents, Jerry and Marie McDowell, two brothers, David McDowell and Stephen McDowell, and one sister, Carla McDowell Banham, all of Independence; his biological parents, Leland McDowell and Sherry Wait; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Eden Heights Store House.

MARVIN KELLEY

Marvin Kelley, 83, Wathena, Kan., died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, at a hospital in St. Joseph, Mo.

Mr. Kelley was born Sept. 28, 1915, in Blair, Kan., and lived most of his life in Elwood, Kan., moving to Stewartsville, Mo., in 1993. He had lived with his daughter in Wathena for the past two years. He was a mechanic for Dugdale Packing Co., St. Joseph, retiring in 1978. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a charter and lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5531, Wathena. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Pendergrass Kelley in 1973.

His survivors include his wife, Freda Neeland Kelley, Stewartsville; three daughters, Patricia Blocker, Wathena, Judith Young, Independence, and Bonnie Knowles, Ottawa, Kan.; a son, Michael Kelley, St. Joseph; two stepdaughters, Laralee Miller, Wathena, and Anita Smith, St. Joseph; a stepson, Dennis Neeland, Stillwell, Kan.; a sister, Maxine Duffy, Middleburg, Ohio; two brothers, Charles Holaday and Ralph Holaday, both of Elwood; 10 grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harman Rohde Funeral Home, Wathena. Burial, with full military honors under the auspices of VFW Post 5531, will be in Bellemont cemetery, Wathena. Friends may call after noon today, and the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to VFW Post 5531 or the Wathena Keen-Age Center.

JOSEPH E. KLEIN

Joseph E. Klein, 92, Edwardsville, Kan., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at the Edwardsville Manor.

Mr. Klein was born Jan. 7, 1906, in St. Louis. He retired from General Motors after 33 years of service. His wife, Reece E. Klein, died in 1987.

His survivors include one son, Joseph R. Klein, Westminster, Colo.; two daughters, Judy R. Vandeputte, Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Susan G. Ryan, Independence; one sister, Virginia Wright, Los Angeles; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Arthritis Foundation.

EDNA M. RINACKE

Edna M. Rinacke, 92, Concordia, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at the Lutheran Nursing Home, Concordia.

She was born Nov. 20, 1906, in Eustis, Neb., and had lived in Independence for many years before moving to Concordia 22 years ago. She retired from Lake City Ammunition Plant. She was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ in Concordia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Rinacke in 1956 and a son, Ronald Rinacke in 1973.

Survivors include a son, Troy Rinacke, Concordia; a sister, Ethel Lehmann, Elwood, Neb.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to service time. The family suggests contributions to the Bethel United Church of Christ.

GENEVIEVE MAYS

Genevieve Holmes Mays, 80, Kansas City, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Mays was born Dec. 29, 1918, in Gallatin, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City since 1951. She worked for National Bellas Hess for 17 years, and was a member of Retirees Chapter Local 710. She was a 1938 graduate of Gallatin High School, and was a member of the Fifteenth Street Baptist Church.

Her survivors include her husband of 60 years, William Mays of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Luke Rezek, Kansas City, and Sherry and Ron Mickey, Independence; one sister, Harlene McElwee, Trenton, Mo.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery, Gallatin. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to your favorite charity.
