ELSIE L. WAUGH

Elsie Lucille Waugh, 77, Warsaw, Mo., died Monday, April 6, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Waugh was born April 15, 1920, in Baylis, Ill. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde W. Waugh, and a grandson, Robert Waugh.

Her survivors include a son, Donald Waugh, Peculiar, Mo.; three daughters, Donna Cooke, Independence, Charlotte Hockman, Warsaw, Mo., whom she had made her home with the last few years, and Betty Lou Foote, Peculiar; a stepson, Bobby Stevens Pierce, Fresno, Calif.; a brother, Clifford R. King, Independence; a sister, Dorothy Buck, Hereford, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at George`s Belton Chapel. Burial will be in Raymore cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

ROBERT G. FARRAND

Robert G. Farrand, 81, Sugar Creek, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center. Mr. Farrand was born Aug. 2, 1917, and was a lifelong resident of the area. He as a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3976, the National Rifle Association and the American Association of Retired Persons. He retired after 34 years from the Amoco Oil Co. and was a member of the Retiree Club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Farrand, of the home; one daughter, D. Janice Hobbs, Independence; one son, Robert G. Farrand Jr., Leawood, Kan.; a sister, Betty Dugan, Kansas City; and four grandchildren, Randy and Christopher Hobbs, Independence, Kim Kuehn, Overland Park, Kan., and Tracy Berrigan, Aurora, Colo.

Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the Mount Washington cemetery. Enter through the Truman Road entrance.

The family recommends donations to the Sugar Creek United Methodist Church.

All arrangements are under the direction of George Carson & Sons Funeral Home, Independence.

MARIAN E. ALBRIGHT

Marian E. Albright, 86, Lee`s Summit, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at the Village Care Center in Lee`s Summit.

Mrs. Albright was born July 1, 1912, in Kansas City. She was a graduate of Pleasant Hill (Mo.) High School, attended Central Missouri State Teachers College, Warrensburg, and graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a teaching degree. She was an elementary school teacher in the Kansas City and North Kansas City school districts. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Chi Chapter and the First Baptist Church of Lee`s Summit, and a lifetime member of the P.E.O. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred E. Albright.

Her survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Mildred Albright, Kansas City; two grandchildren, David Albright and Phyllis Camp; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee`s Summit. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.

Zygmund P. 'Ziggy' Rondomanski

Zygmund P. 'Ziggy' Rondomanski, 91, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at the Rosewood Nursing Home, Independence.

Mr. Rondomanski was born Oct. 22, 1908, in Waterford, Conn., and move to Independence in 1943.

He was manager of the Elko Photo Finishing Laboratory of Kansas City, retiring in 1973. For 25 of those years, he managed the Elko Camera Store on the Square in Independence.

After six months of retirement, he re-entered the workforce as assistant manager of the camera department for the Venture store on Noland Road in Independence, retiring in 1988.

He was a graduate of the University of Missouri, Kansas City, Conservatory of Music with a bachelor's degree in cello performance.

He played the 'Viola da gamba' in the Baroque Ensemble from the conservatory.

He was a charter member of the Independence Symphony Orchestra.

He taught cello and piano for most of his life and performed solos and with small ensembles throughout the Independence and Kansas City areas.

He was a composer and wrote compositions, including symphonies, marches, string ensembles, piano works and orchestral and solo works for all instruments. He composed a march for the US Coast Guard Academy Band, 'Coast Guard on Parade, ' which is part of the band's repertoire.

He was a member of the Lion's Club. He was a deacon and had been a member of the Walnut Park Congregation of the RLDS for 56 years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorraine, in 1946.

His survivors include his wife of 68 years, Blanche, Independence; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Delores Rondomanski, Independence; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Joseph VanRiette, Independence; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to New Walnut Park Congregation or to The Independence Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 3184, Independence, Mo. 64055.

JAMES C. WALDREN

James Charles Waldren, 78, Blue Springs, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Waldren was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Polk County, Mo., and had lived in the Independence and Blue Springs area for 50 years. He had worked in engineering maintenance for 12 years for the Kansas City Royals before retiring in 1990. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 697 Air Material Squadron. He was a 45-year member of Rockwood Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and served as deacon. He was a member of Carpenter`s Local 61.

His survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ona Lee Waldren of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Betsy Waldren, Lake Tapawingo; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bob Schwarz, Ogden, Utah; two brothers, Oral W. Waldren, Springfield, Mo., and Glenn M. Waldren, Camdenton, Mo.; six grandchildren, Christopher, Alison, Holly, Charles, Stephanie and Wade; and one great-grandchild, Ethan.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Rockwood Baptist Church, Independence. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Rockwood Baptist Church, 10035 E. Westport Road, Independence, Mo. 64052.

FLOYD SCHMID

Floyd Schmid, 77, Raytown, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Hidden Lake Care Center, Raytown.

Mr. Schmid was a longtime employee of Sears, and after retiring, he became a skilled genealogist and family historian. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

His survivors include his wife, Jerry Schmid of Raytown; two sons, David Schmid and William Schmid, and one grandson, Zachary, all of Blue Springs; one stepson, Michael Lakaytis, Alaska; and two stepdaughters, Phyllis Robinson, California, and Patty Arms, Nigeria, Africa.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.

MARGUERITE M. HAWORTH

Marguerite Marie Haworth, 76, Lee's Summit, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at the home of her daughter in Lee's Summit.

Mrs. Haworth was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Independence, and had lived in this area her entire life. She was a member of St. Matthew Apostle Church.

Her survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Paul Persson, and Nancy and Patrick Fryer, all of Lee's Summit; a son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Nancy Haworth, Olathe, Kan.; a sister, Stella Martin, Independence; eight grandchildren, Paul, Kristin and David Persson, Jennifer, Angela and Michael Haworth, and Emily and Matthew Fryer; and a great-granddaughter, Rachel Persson.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Apostle Church, 8001 Longview Road, Kansas City. Burial will be in Orient cemetery, Harrisonville, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Speaks Suburban Chapel.

GERALD D. EVANS

Gerald D. Evans, 84, Hattiesburg, Miss., died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg.

Mr. Evans was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from East High School, attended Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, and received a master's degree in social work from the University of Iowa in 1953. He served as a chaplain's assistant in the Army during World War II, and was among the first U.S. forces to wade ashore in Japan at the close of the war. He served in several capacities within Iowa's Social Welfare system, including head of Decatur County Child Welfare Services, state supervisor of child welfare service for six Iowa counties, and director of staff development of the state of Iowa Social Welfare Department. He was counselor for the Detroit, Mich., Methodist Children's Home from 1959 to 1961.

In 1965, he became the director of the office of Social Ministries for the RLDS Center Stake in Independence, and administered the church's assistance funds, provided family counseling and developed and led an adoption agency. He served on the Kansas City Human Rights Board and was an elected member of the Independence Neighborhood Council. In 1979, he became the first director of Crown Colony Retirement Community, Lamoni, Iowa, where he served for seven years. He retired to Hattiesburg in 1987, where he was active in the Optimist Club, American Red Cross, Cansurmount and the University of Southern Mississippi Institue for Learning and Retirement. He was currently enrolled in graduate classes at USM.

His survivors include his wife, MaryBeth Evans, Hattiesburg; two sons, Jeffrey A. Evans, Hattiesburg, and Harold Gatton, Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Jewell E. Evans, Hong Kong; one sister, Myrl Spencer, and one brother, Dr. Samuel C. Evans, both of Des Moines; and four grandchildren, Sara C. Evans, Emily F. Evans, Cherri A. Aldridge and Tracy Gatton.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the RLDS Church in Lamoni. Burial will be in Andover (Mo.) cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home, Leon, Iowa. Visitation was also held Feb. 9 at the Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home, Hattiesburg.

AARON B. COONCE

Aaron B. Coonce, 86, Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Independence Regional Center.

Mr. Coonce was born in East St. Louis, Ill., and had lived in Des Moines, Iowa, for 50 years before moving to Independence a year ago. He was an independent insurance agent until retiring in 1989. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a bishop in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a member of the Central congregation in Des Moines for 50 years. He was past president of the Lions Club in downtown Des Moines. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Hyperion for a number of years. He was preceded in death by a grandchild.

His survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Coonce, Independence; a daughter, Carole Lindgren, Independence; three sons, Harry B. Coonce, Vernon Center, Minn., Richard W. Coonce, Urbandale, Iowa, and Tom Coonce, Kaslo, British Columbia; a sister, Roberta Orr, ElPaso, Texas; eight grandchildren, Chris Warwick, Aaron B. Coonce II, Richard Coonce, Zac Coonce, Nathan Coonce, Stacey Lindgren, Stewart Coonce and Michael Coonce; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 7 tonight at the chapel in the Grooves, 1515 West White Oak, Independence. Graveside services will be at noon Wednesday at Resthaven cemetery, West Des Moines, Iowa. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at McLaren's Funeral Chapel, West Des Moines. The family suggests contributions to the Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahlstom Funeral Home.

CLARENCE E. DAVIS

Clarence E. Davis, 87, Independence, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Davis was born June 8, 1911, in Hatten, Mo. He was a member of American Legion Post 340; Eagles, Sugar Creek; and Moose Lodge 10. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Davis in 1992.

His survivors include his brother, Stanley Davis, Independence; and three sisters, Nadine Dison, Independence, Kathryn Yates, Osceola, Mo., and Gladys Jones, Clinton, Mo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Legion Post 340.

FRED E. BAUMGARDNER

Fred E. Baumgardner, 65, Edwards, Mo., died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at the home of his son in Kansas City.

Mr. Baumgardner was born Feb. 26, 1933, in Ava, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City before moving to Edwards, Mo. He entered the U.S. Army in 1955 and served until 1963 when he was released from the United States Army Reserves. He was employed for Phelps Tool and Die Co., Kansas City, for 27 years. He was a member of the Deer Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

His survivors include his wife of 39 years, Eileen T. Baumgardner of the home; six children, Kathleen Marriott, Blue Springs, Mary Thompson, Kansas City, Teresa Baumgardner of the home, Jean Baumgardner, Butler, Mo., Margaret Spry, Edwards, Mo., and Fred Baumgardner Jr., Edwards; a sister, Helen Hamilton, Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Lawrence Baumgardner, Branson, Mo.; and seven grandchildren, Trevor and Austin Rice, Kayla, Ashley and Brandon Thompson, Tara Peel, and Luke Spry.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann`s Catholic Church, Warsaw, Mo. Burial will be in the Mossy cemetery, Edwards. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw.

MARY E. HAMBURG

Mary E. Hamburg, 86, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Hamburg was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Kansas City. She was a member of St. Ann`s Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Richard Hamburg in October 1997.

Her survivors include three sons, John Lyons, Coeur d`Alene, Idaho, Richard Hamburg, Blue Springs, and Thomas Hamburg, Manhattan, N.Y.; a brother, William Morgan, Kansas City; two sisters, Loretta Reeves, Olathe, Kan., and Virginia McMillan, Zephyrhills, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Denise L. Hamburg, Independence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Cowgill (Mo.) cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

VIRGINIA L. HAYS

Virginia L. Hays, 83, Independence, died Monday, March 8, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Hays was born June 9, 1915, in Kansas City. She was of the Methodist faith, and a member of the Northeast Morning Extension Homemakers Club. Her husband of 62 years, Chester Hays, died in 1997.

Her survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Charlotte L. Huddleston, and Nancy and Mark Riotte, all of Independence; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James D. and Marilyn Hays, Lee's Summit, and John M. Hays, Independence; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Kidney Foundation.
