LOIS L. BARMORE

Lois L. Barmore, 78, Independence, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Barmore was born Nov. 29, 1918, in Pittsburg, Kan., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Gudgell Park RLDS congregation.

Her survivors include her husband, Joel Barmore of the home; a daughter, Deanna L. Nelson, Independence; a brother, C.R. Gedney, Mesa, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Julie Joe Nelson, and a great-grandson, Chad A. French, both of Kansas City.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

INEZ E. CAMERLYNCK

Inez Ellen Camerlynck, 73, Independence, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Camerlynck was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Cement City, Mo., and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Testament Baptist Church of Blue Springs. She was also a member and past senior vice president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 3976 in Sugar Creek.

Her survivors include her husband, William J. "Bill" Camerlynck Sr. of the home; two daughters, Judy O`Bryan and Connie Camerlynck, and a son, William Camerlynck Jr., all of Independence; two sisters, Myrtle Chadwick Deitoch, Independence, and Pauline Smith, Kansas City; two brothers, James Stewart, Liberty, Mo., and Rusty Stewart, Battle Creek, Mich.; a granddaughter, Lori Rodgers, Prairie Village, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the chapel, where the Ladies Auxiliary services will be held at 7 p.m.

MARTHA E. HOOPER

Martha Effie Davis Hooper, 89, Henagar, Ala., formerly of Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Hooper was a retired school teacher and a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Her survivors include a son, Ward David Hooper, Bates City; a daughter, Mary Emmanell Long, Henagar; two brothers, Zedric Davis, Grain Valley, and David Davis, Independence; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services were today at Kerby Funeral Home Inc., Henagar. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Baker cemetery, Hardy, Ark.

DALLIS F. LEWIS

Dallis F. Lewis, 60, formerly of Independence, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

His survivors include his wife, Marilyn Lewis; a daughter, Ann Martin; a son, Barry Lewis; and three grandchildren, Melissa Lewis, Brian Lewis and Drew Martin. Services and burial were held in Michigan. Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Village Heights RLDS Church, 1009 Farview Drive.

CHESTER RUE

Chester Rue, 61, Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Rue was born Dec. 4, 1935, in Springfield, Mo., and had lived in Independence for the past seven years. He worked for Livers Bronze in Kansas City for 35 years before he retired.

His survivors include two sons, Steven Rue and Shawn S. Rue, and four daughters, Brenda Meyers, Bonnie Runyun, DeeDee Palmer and Norma Hughes, and all of Independence; and two brothers, John Thomas Rue of the Springfield area, and his twin brother, Lester Rue, Seymour, Mo.; and Mary F. Rue, Independence.

Cremation, with private family services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

LORENE A. SPINNER

Lorene A. Spinner, 91, Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997.

Mrs. Spinner was born May 14, 1906, in Platte City, Mo., and had lived in this area most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Spinner, and a daughter, Theresa Livingston.

Her survivors include three sons, Jesse Leipard, Lawrence, Kan., Samuel Leipard, Clinton, Mo., and Joe Leipard, Archie, Mo.; five daughters, Bonnie Landwehr, San Jose, Calif., Lydia Wendt, Raytown, Paulene Spellbrink, Independence, Francis Klinge, Kansas City, and Betty Lou Franz, Cincinnati; a sister, Cleo Carlock, Olathe, Kan.; 23 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Graveside memorial services and inurement will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Blue Springs cemetery. A memorial Mass will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Independence.

ROYAL E. DOSS

Royal Eldred Doss, 88, Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. Mr. Doss was born Dec. 29, 1909, in King, Ark., and lived in California before moving to Independence in 1972. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in southern California for 30 years, retiring in 1972. He attended A&M College in Magnolia, Ark., and was an Army veteran of World War II. He served as a chaplain at the Resthaven Retirement Home for 23 years, was an evangelist in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was a member of the Pleasant Heights RLDS congregation. He was also a member of the American Legion.

His survivors include his wife, Mildred Doss of the home; one son, Daniel Doss, Santa Fe, N.M.; two sisters, Opal Ward, Bethesda, Md., and Cleo Bassham, Gillham, Ark.; and one grandson, Sean Curtis.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund.

BETTY J. GARTON

Betty Jean Garton, 75, Fort Myers, Fla., died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998.

Mrs. Garton was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Garton in 1991, and a daughter, Peggy Welsch in 1978.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas E. and Janet Garton, Fort Myers; three grandchildren, Kimberly E. Powers, Kelly J. Lowman and Brian T. Welsch; and two great-grandchildren, Quentin Powers and Nathan Powers.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs.

EDITH HICKS

Edith Hicks, 94, Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at the Gardner Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Hicks was born Dec. 23, 1903, in Igo, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 50 years. She had been a seamstress for Donnelly Garment Co., and was a charter member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church. Her husband, Herman Orvel Hicks, died in 1990.

Her survivors include one daughter, Mary Ellen Odell, and one grandson, David Odell, both of Independence; four brothers, Clarence Sallee, Kelley Sallee, Jim Sallee and Glesco Sallee, and two sisters, Clella Sallee and Mae Sallee, all of southern Missouri.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

LEAH V. KATSANTONESS

Leah Virginia Katsantoness, 83, Overland Park, Kan., died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at St. Luke`s Hospital.

Mrs. Katsantoness was born Nov. 11, 1914, in Kansas City, Kan., and lived in Kansas City, Clinton and Warsaw in Missouri before moving to Overland Park. She owned restaurants in the areas in which she lived.

Her survivors include two sons, Donald L. Huffman and Antonie L. Katsantoness Jr., both of Overland Park; one daughter, Sharon Patricia Kerr, Independence; one brother, Richard E. White, North Little Rock, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Harvester`s Food Bank.

BARBARA "JEAN" McCORMICK

Barbara "Jean" McCormick, 60, Buckner, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998.

Mrs. McCormick was born in Chelyan, W.Va., and lived in Marmet, W.Va., and the Charleston, W.Va., area before moving to Buckner in 1964. She was an accountant for Ronson Manufacturing in Independence. She was a 1955 graduate of East Bank High School, Marmet, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Buckner, where she served as Sunday schoolchildren`s division director and church treasurer.

Her survivors include her husband of 40 years, Donald R. McCormick; two sons, Mike McCormick, Leawood, Kan., and Randy McCormick, Lee`s Summit; one brother, Charles Williams, Marmet;two sisters, Marilyn "Marly" Webb and Judy Buttress, both of Buckner; four grandsons, Chris, Tyler, Nathan and Keegan; and many nephews and nieces.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Buckner cemetery.Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the church. The family suggests contributions to the church or St. Mary`s Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brown Funeral Home, Buckner.

FRANCES J. McLELLAN

Frances JoAnn McLellan, 53, Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. McLellan was born Aug. 29, 1944, in Hogansville, Ga., and lived in Pensacola, Fla., from 1969 until moving to Independence in 1981. She was a cook for the CIRHC Dietary Department from 1981 to 1995. She was a member of the Buckner Restoration Branch.

Her survivors include one son, Anthony Shane McLellan, Independence; three sisters, Yvonne Anderson and Joyce Wiggins, both of Hogansville, Ga., and Wanda Jones, Grantville, Ga.; one brother, Wendall Wiggins, Columbus, Ga.; two grandchildren, Michael Shane McLellan and Courtney Elisabeth McLellan, both of Independence; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, South Avenue and Delaware Street; cremation. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the family.

DAVID RAMEL

David Ramel, 27, Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Ramel was born July 29, 1970, in Kansas City. He was apress assistant for J-2 Printing, and an Army veteran. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Buckmasters, Promise Keepers and the First Baptist Church of Independence.

His survivors include his mother, Joyce Ramel of the home; his father and stepmother, Larry and Sandra Ramel, Independence; two brothers, Rick Ramel, Kimberling City, Mo., and Bill Prentiss, Independence; a half sister, Melony Ramel, and his paternal grandmother, Edith Ramel, both of Independence; a stepson, Dylan Houston; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the David S. Ramel Memorial Fund.

LAWRENCE J. REEVES

Lawrence J. Reeves, 51, Kansas City, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center.

Mr. Reeves was born Sept. 9, 1946, in Kansas City. He was a lifetime member of the Amateur Radio Relay League, president of the Quarter Century Wireless Association, and a member of the Kansas City DX Club. He attended Grandview United Methodist Church. His survivors include his wife, Marsha M. Reeves of the home; two sons, GlenKroll and Alan Reeves, both of Grandview; two daughters, Jennifer Cook, Belton, Mo., and Cheryl Reeves Green, Independence; his mother, Alberta Travers, Independence; a foster daughter, Michelle Davis, Belton; seven grandchildren; and three foster grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 297153, Houston, Texas 77297.

MARC A. WARREN

Marc Alan Warren, 35, Buckner, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, in Ray County, Mo.

Mr. Warren was born Feb. 13, 1962, in Carlisle, Pa.

His survivors include his wife, Daun Warren, one son, Miles Warren, and two daughters, Chelsea Warren and Jessica Warren, all of the home; his mother, Julia Ann Warren; two brothers, Terry Warren and Lynn Warren; and two sisters, Pam Lightskey and Mary Jenkins.

Graveside services are 1 p.m. today at Mount Washington cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

JANA S. BERNHARDT

Jana Susan Bernhardt, 46, Kansas City, Mo., died Thursday, October 30, 1997, at Truman Medical Center.

Mrs. Bernhardt was born June 16, 1951, in Oklahoma City, Okla., and had lived in Kansas City for more than 10 years. She was an artist who worked in crafts and ceramics. She was a member of the Little Blue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Heath Bernhardt.

Her survivors include two daughters, Tina Bernhardt, Raytown, and Alicia Bernhardt, Independence; her father and stepmother, Jim and Mary Lynn Wade, Marlow, Okla.; her mother and stepfather, Emily and Red Mackey, Fulton, Texas; and a brother, Paul Wade, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Memorial services were held Saturday at the church. Following cremation, burial will be in Arlington Memorial cemetery, Midwest City, Okla. The family suggests contributions to the Little Blue Baptist Church, 1703 Noland Road, Kansas City, Mo. Arrangements were under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

LYLE O. BORLAND

Lyle O. Borland, 90, Oak Grove, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at St. Joseph Health Care Center.

Mr. Borland was born May 12, 1907, in Oak Grove, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a foundation repair contractor for many years and also had worked as a chef at the Forum Cafeteria for many years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he had served as chef for the headquarters of Gen. Omar Bradley. He was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church and the Modern Woodsmen and part of the Grand Friends of the Forum Cafeteria.

His survivors include his wife, Wilma H. Borland of the home; three sons, Brice L. Borland, Prairie Village, Kan., Keith P. Borland, Lone Jack, Mo., and Craig A. Borland, Oak Grove; a daughter, Rebecca E. Gurney, and a sister, Mildred Moore, both of Oak Grove; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were today at the church. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.

WILLARD E. DETERDING

Willard E. Deterding, 86, Pleasant Hill, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at Research Medical Center.

Mr. Deterding was born Jan. 4, 1911, in Holstein, Neb., and lived in Nebraska and Knob Noster, Mo., before moving to Pleasant Hill 39 years ago. He was self-employed and was skilled in all types of construction work. He retired in 1972. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Raymore, Mo. He was preceded in death by three sons, Eugene Deterding, Everett Deterding and Noel Deterding.

His survivors include his wife, Ida M. Deterding of the home; seven sons, Darold Deterding, Alton, Ill., Roger Deterding, Blue Springs, Larry Deterding and Merle Deterding, both of Independence, James Deterding, Louisburg, Kan., William Deterding, Wheatland, Mo., and Paul Deterding, Daphne, Ala.; three daughters, Charlotte Dowding, Grandview, Marcele McCommon, Kingsville, Mo., and Doris Christopher, Mission Viego, Calif.; two brothers, Joe Deterding, Friend, Neb., and Elmer Deterding, Corder, Mo.; a sister, Lydia Deterding, Hastings, Neb.; 48 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Stanley & Son Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Pleasant Hill Lutheran Mission.

LEWIS B. "BART" DOWNUM

Lewis Barton "Bart" Downum, 73, Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Downum was born June 6, 1924, in Lowell, Ark. He retired from TWA in 1990. He served in Europe during World War II in the U.S. Army 35th Infantry Division. He received a Purple Heart for the Normandy Campaign in France. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Association of Retired Persons, International Association of Machinist Local 1650 and the Spring Creek Baptist Church, Springdale, Ark.

His survivors include his wife of 48 years, Wanda Downum of the home; a daughter, Linda Peters, Independence; three sisters, Helen Pattishall, Dickinson, N.D., LaVerne Creekmore, Blue Springs, and Elaine Farish, Springdale; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were today at Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. The family suggests contributions to the Visiting Nurses Association, 2801 Wyandotte, Kansas City, Mo. 64018 or to the Heartland Community Church, 2400 S. Lee`s Summit Road, Independence, Mo. 64055. Arrangements were under the direction of Speaks Suburban Chapel.

CHESTER W. HENSON

Chester W. Henson, 89, Grain Valley, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Henson was born in Springfield, Mo., and had lived in the Grain Valley area for more than 11 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grain Valley, where he served as a deacon. He was a charter member of the High Street Baptist Church of Springfield, where he also served as deacon.

His survivors include his wife of more than 69 years, Veatrice M. Fields Henson; a son, Jim Henson, and a daughter, Helen Roller, both of Grain Valley; five grandchildren, Ted Henson, Doyel Roller, Dane Roller, Cindy Vanarsdal and Cathy Kennon; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services were Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Grain Valley. Burial was in Perdee cemetery, Grain Valley.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Mary`s Hospice of Blue Springs.

DANIEL W. HUPMAN

Daniel William Hupman, 64, Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997.

Mr. Hupman was born April 30, 1933, in Independence, and was a lifelong area resident. He worked in the Kansas City School District maintenance department for 22 years, retiring in 1995. He had previously worked for the Jackson County Highway Department. He was a member of the P.O.M.C. organization. He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Lee Hupman in 1988.

His survivors include his wife, Marilyn Hupman of the home; three sons, William Brent Hupman, Ronald Wayne Hupman and Richard Chad Hupman; a daughter, Barbara Lyn Cairns; three brothers, Jim Hupman, Johnny Hupman and Gene Hupman;four sisters, Elizabeth Ingalls, Evelyn Audsley, Marie Nead and Helen Cotter; and eight grandchildren, Deanna Hupman, Tamra Marie Hupman, Timothy Cairns, Amanda Hupman, Nathan Hupman, Derrick Hupman, Ashley Cairns and Vanessa Cairns. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.
