AVA J. TODD

Ava J. Todd, 78, Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998 in the Independence Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 2, 1919, in Stella, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Todd, in 1977.

Mrs. Todd worked for Merchant's Bank for 32 years. She retired in 1984 when she was manager of the safe deposits area. She attended the Community Christian Church of Kansas City.

She is survived by her sons Charles Todd, Independence, and John Todd, Wichita, Kan.; one sister Alma Miller, Neosho, Mo.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the D.W. Newcomers' Sons Noland Road Chapel, with burial to follow in Greenlawn cemetery, Kansas City. The family recommends memorial contributions to the Childrens Mercy Hospital.

BERTHA E. BOONE

Bertha Elizabeth Boone, 92, Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Boone was born in St. Louis, Mo., and had lived in this area most of her life. She had been a cashier at the Independence office of the Missouri State Motor Vehicle Department for 17 years, retiring in 1965. She was of the Methodist faith.

Her survivors include a son, George G. Boone Jr., Sunrise Beach, Mo.; three daughters, Mary Catherine Strand, Syracuse, N.Y., Betty Parlee Hurley, Juneau, Alaska, and Donna Rae Seward, Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

DONALD G. DUDLEY

Donald G. Dudley, 81, Independence, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

Mr. Dudley was born Nov. 5, 1918, in Parsons, Kan., and had lived in this area most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and continued to serve in the Army Reserves as a warrant officer, retiring in 1981, after more than 30 years of service. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 30 years, retiring from there in 1982. He was a member of the Budd Park Christian Church.

His survivors include his wife of 48 years, Thelma M. Dudley of the home; a son, Bob Duston, Plano, Texas; a daughter, Barbara Paden, Naples, Fla.; a sister, Norma Lea Irwin, Kansas City; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Park Lawn Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

MABEL CALLAHAN

Mabel McCollum Callahan, 93, Raytown, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at the Park Place Care Center in Raytown.

Mrs. Callahan was born Feb. 21, 1905, near Salisbury, Mo., and had lived in this area since 1941. She worked for 25 years for Sears, Roebuck and Co. in the monument department, retiring as manager in 1968. She was one of the co-founders and a past president of the Sears Retiree Club. She was also a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Golden Circle Sunday school class, where she taught the class for several years. She studied in the Menninger Bible class for 10 years.

Her survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Frances and James Ogle, Independence (with whom she made her home for six years); one son and daughter-in-law, R.L. and Paula Callahan, Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Edna Mae Vaughn, Salisbury, and Racye Ann Schnickels, Fort Scott, Kan.; two brothers, Woodrow McCollum, Cairo, Mo., and Keith McCollum, Columbia, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Gideons International.

PATSY J. McREYNOLDS

Patsy J. McReynolds, 64, Oak Grove, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. McReynolds was born Jan. 9, 1935, in Ozark, Mo.

Her survivors include one daughter, Brenda Wyman, Bates City; two sons, Robert W. Barlow, Independence, and Dean Alan McReynolds, Kansas City; one sister, Iva Lee Boley, Independence; one brother, Harold D. Blevins, Clinton, Mo.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

FRANCES C. ADAMS

Frances C. Adams, 92, Kansas City, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, at Glennon Place.

Mrs. Adams was born Oct. 3, 1904, in Ray County, Mo. She had worked for Lan Mar Garment Manufacturing, and was a member of Budd Park Christian Church.

Her survivors include two sons, Gene Adams, Rayville, Mo., and Vernon Adams, Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Thelma Sprowls, Independence; a sister, Susan Lamberth, Shawnee, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the church, 4925 St. John, Kansas City. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City.

LORATTIA E. BAILEY

Lorattia E. Bailey, 77, Independence, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Ms. Bailey was born Aug. 6, 1920, in Kansas City. She was retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., Kansas City.

Her survivors include cousins.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Conn Funeral Home, Tipton, Mo. Burial will be in St. Andrew`s cemetery, Tipton. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

WANDA BIDDLECOME

Wanda Reynolds Huff Biddlecome, 66, El Dorado Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, at the Community Nursing Home in El Dorado Springs.

Mrs. Biddlecome was born Sept. 5, 1931, in Cedar County, Mo., and was a lifelong El Dorado Springs resident. She and her first husband, Eldon Huff, operated a dairy farm until 1973. She had also worked for the International Shoe Co., Sibley and Thatch grocery store and at Tri-County State Bank before she retired. She was a member of the Coal Hill RLDS congregation, and had attended Coal Hill Grade School and El Dorado Springs High School. She was preceded in death by her first husband.

Her survivors include her husband, Eldon Biddlecome of the home; her children, Brenda McGee, Springfield, Mo., Tom Huff, Stockton, Mo., Karen Meurer, Fenton, Iowa, Elbert Biddlecome and Larry Biddlecome, both of El Dorado Springs, and Gary Biddledcome, Sheldon, Mo.; two brothers, Jess "Tubby" Reynolds, Harrisonville, Mo., and Billy Reynolds, Independence; her grandchildren, Doug, Gary and Trent Brackenridge, Stacey, Nikki and Jinger Huff, Chandelle Jordan, Chad and Brice McGee, Jesse, Jamie and Allan Jordan, Adam and Nick Meurer, Nathaniel, Sarah, Jason, Kalyn and Megan Biddlecome; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackelman Chapel, El Dorado Springs. Burial will be in El Dorado Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Hospice, in care of the Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Mo.

MARVIN L. FORD

Marvin Louis Ford, 73, Archie, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Ford was born April 6, 1924, in Pleasant Hill, Mo. He worked for the General Motors Leeds Assembly Plant for 30 years.

His survivors include his wife, Wynona Ford of the home; his children, Roland L. Ford, Jerry M. Ford, Nancy Bowman and Diana Ford, all of Adrian, Mo., Janice L. Highley, Butler, Mo., Kenneth L. Ford, Independence, Patti Ann Knox and Kelli Keedwell, both of Kansas City, Barbara Willoughby, Lexington, Mo., and Daniel Keedwell, Blue Springs; six brothers, Lloyd Ford, E.L. Ford Jr., Bud Ford, Jack Ford and Terry Ford, all of Archie, and Douglas Ford, Adrian; three sisters, Joy Kilpatrick and Patty Crisp, both of Butler, and Betty Jo Martin, Bucyrus, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Archie. Burial will be in Crescent Hill cemetery, Adrian. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the Atkinson Chapel, Archie. The family suggests contributions to Bates County Hospice.

SHIRLEY A. FORD

Shirley A. Ford, 57, Independence, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Ford was born Aug. 29, 1940, in Butte, Mont. She was an underwriter for the Kansas City Life Insurance Co., and was a member of the Eastside Assembly of God.

Her survivors include her husband, Donald W. Ford of the home; a son, Doug W. Ford, Liberty, Mo.; a brother, Richard Tobel, Ronan, Mont.; and a grandson, Matthew Ford.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 3923 Pittman, Kansas City. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City.

SHIRLEY A. HILL

Shirley A. Hill, 65, Independence, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Hill was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Hillsdale, Mich., and had lived in Independence since 1984. She was a registered nurse. She had worked for Furrs Cafeteria for the past 12 years, retiring in July 1997. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Grand Paraders Square Club.

Her survivors include her husband, D. Jack Hill of the home; two daughters, Patricia A. Allen, Indianapolis, and Catherine Lynn Jones, Clermont, Fla.; a son, Alan J. Hill, Sugar Creek; and a grandson, Jacob A. Hill.

Memorial services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 400 W. Maple Ave.; cremation. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

WALTER LIDDLE JR.

Walter "Bub" Liddle Jr., 74, Pleasant Hill, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital.

Mr. Liddle was born Jan. 26, 1923, and lived in Pleasant Hill and Climax Springs, Mo., before returning to Pleasant Hill in 1990. He was a real estate agent before he retired in 1990, and was a member of Pleasant View Christian Church in Independence. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3118 in Pleasant Hill.

His survivors include his wife of 23 years, Francis Liddle of the home; five daughters, Carol Lowe, Chandler, Ariz., Kay Johnson, Jeanie Wright and Janie Denish, all of Independence, Penny LaJaunie, Owasso, Okla., and Lavon Duffy, Pleasant Hill; two brothers, Victor Liddle and Norman "Dody" Liddle, both of Blue Springs; a sister, Aggie Liddle Davis, Kearney, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 1 at Wallace Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill. Burial was in Old Salem cemetery.

LOIS B. MURPHY

Lois B. Murphy, 64, Kansas City, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, at Baptist Medical Center.

Mrs. Murphy was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Green Forest, Ark.

Her survivors include her husband, Bob Murphy of the home; three daughters, Patricia J. Combs, Independence, and Debra L. Murphy and Barbara A. Murphy, both of Kansas City; two sisters, June Smith, Raytown, and Edna R. Root, Las Vegas, Nev.; and a granddaughter, April M. Coulson.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer or American Lung associations.

LARRY A. APPLEBERRY

Larry Allen Appleberry, 54, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, in Richmond Heights, Mo.

Mr. Appleberry was born Oct. 31, 1942, in Mount Vernon, Mo. He served in Vietnam in 1962 in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a driver for Transcarriers of Tennessee. His survivors include his daughter, Shelly Appleberry, Blue Springs; three stepchildren, Carol M. Fonstock, North Kansas City, Mo., Jimmy Martin, Independence, and Tammy Wilkins, Blue Springs; a sister, Stella M. Howerton, Independence;two brothers, James E. Appleberry, Mill Creek, Mo., and William E. Appleberry, Plad, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.

Private services are pending. The family requests no flowers. Arrangements are under the direction of New Salem Funeral Home, Independence.

HERBERT C. BRAYTON JR.

Herbert C. Brayton Jr., 58, Independence, died Friday, March 14, 1997, at the Maywood Nursing Home in Independence.

Mr. Brayton was born Nov. 24, 1938, in Muscatine, Iowa. He was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when he was 8-years-old. He attended Mercer County schools and graduated salutatorian of Joy High School. He graduated from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He received his bachelor`s degree from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Ill., and his master`s degree in math from Syracuse University in New York. He married his wife, Kathy Hunt, in 1960 in Idaho. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City.

His survivors include his wife, Kathy, Independence; three daughters, Anita Carey, Independence, Candace Brayton, Warrensburg, Mo., and Tamera Brayton, Columbia, Mo.; his parents, Herbert and Florence Brayton; two sisters, Margaret Hayes and Vada Brayton, both of Kansas City; and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the George M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the service begins.

A memorial has been established for the Maywood Terrace Nursing Home, 10300 Truman Road, Independence, MO 64052.

JOHN H. DINGWERTH

John "Johnny" H. Dingwerth, 94, Independence, died Thursday, March 13, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Dingwerth was born Dec. 2, 1902, in Bethel, Kan., and had lived in Independence since 1946. He worked 43 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., retiring in 1968 as a wire chief. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a Presbyterian.

He was survived by his wife, Ethel A. Dingwerth of the home; and three nephews and a niece.

Graveside services 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethel cemetery, Kansas City, Kan. Arrangements are under the direction of Speaks Suburban Chapel.
