ELLA J. "JUANITA" CARVER

Ella J. "Juanita" Carver, 74, Independence, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at the Monterey Park Care Center.

Mrs. Carver was born June 20, 1924, in Concordia, Mo. She worked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for more than 30 years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Independence. Her husband, Wrayburn Carver, died in February 1999.

Her survivors include three sisters, Allene Barker, Sugar Creek, Maxine Liles, Independence, and Jenny Butler, Fort St. Lucie, Fla.; two brothers, Donald Kessner, Lee's Summit, and Robert Kessner, Concordia; two sons, Fred Lewis Vance and Ricky Dean Vance, both of Independence; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.

VERNA E. COOK

Verna Eunice Cook, 90, Independence, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Cook was born May 9, 1908, in Detroit, Mich., and lived in Detroit until moving to Missouri four years ago.

Her survivors include one sister, Helen Johnson, Blue Springs; two nieces, Susan Rodriguez, Independence, and Heidi Schmadebeck, Fort Myers, Fla.; one great-niece; and one great-nephew.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 409 N. Liberty St.; cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Morticians Service, Kansas City.

LOYD A. DAILEY

Loyd A. Dailey, 84, Independence, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in the Independence Health Center.

Mr. Dailey was born Aug. 22, 1914, in Winona, Mo. He moved to Kansas City in 1940, where he began driving trolley cars, and later buses, for the Kansas City Transit Authority. He continued in that capacity until his retirement in 1974.

He was a member of the Sycamore Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Edith L. Dailey, of the home; a daughter, LaDonna K. Bedsworth, Independence; three brothers, Howard Dailey, Springfield, Mo.; Raymond Daily and Sherman Dailey, both of Winona; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m Monday, Dec. 21, in the Newcomer Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

KENNETH W. PENDERGAST

Kenneth W. Pendergast, 87, Blue Springs, died Friday, March 19, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Pendergast was born Dec. 24, 1911, in Chula, Mo. He was part owner and vice president of George E. Baird & Son Office Supply Co. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post 398 and the Sertoma Club.

His survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Pendergast of the home; a daughter, Martha Morris, Blue Springs; and a sister, Dixie Edwards, Anaheim, Calif.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.

GEORGE F. PHILLIPS

George F. "Toby" Phillips, 64, Independence, died Friday, March 19, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Phillips was born April 5, 1934, in Kansas City, and had lived in this area all of his life. He retired in 1988 from General Motors. He had worked part time for the Independence School District, Bridger Eighth Grade Center, and at Ornamental Brass Foundry. He was a member of the Waldo Baptist Church, Independence. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 93.

His survivors include two daughters, Pamela Watson and Georgiana Hill, and three sons, Daniel Phillips, Billy Gene Phillips and Jimmy Paul Phillips, all of Independence; a brother, Bobby Phillips, Independence; two sisters, Eunice McCune, Blue Springs, and Patty Holler, Independence; a companion, Vera Phillips, Independence; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the New Salem Funeral home. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

LAWRENCE P. "MIKE" PRITCHETT

Lawrence P. "Mike" Pritchett, 77, Independence, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Pritchett was born Oct. 11, 1921, in Exeter, Mo., and had lived in this area for 58 years. He was equipment operator with Armco Steel for 43 years before retiring from the bolt and nut shipping department in 1983. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Jon Michael Davis in 1998.

His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Amy F. Pritchett of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy and Mike Howe, Independence, and Pat Heigle, Blue Springs; two sisters, Eunice Thompson, Ozark, Mo., and Dona McNab, Sedona, Ariz..; three grandchildren, Jeff Howe, Julie Davis and Chris Heigle; and three great-granddaughters, Kelsie, Emily and Brooke.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Floral Hills cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Newcomer Floral Hills Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association or the Kansas City Hospice.

LEONA E. SCHLICHTING

Leona E. Schlichting, 91, Concordia, Mo., died Friday, March 19, 1999, at the Lutheran Nursing Home, Concordia.

Mrs. Schlichting was born March 29, 1907, in Alva, Okla., and had lived in Vandalia, Ill., for 22 years until moving to Concordia in 1996. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Blackburn, Mo. She was active in church work, teaching Sunday school and assisting with teaching in parishes her husband served working with the Ladies Aids and church guilds. She was a homemaker and had worked as a nurse's aide from 1964 until retiring in 1985 after 21 years for Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia, Ill. She was named hospital employee of the year in 1985. She had served Lutheran congregations in Maryland, Washington D.C., Illinois and Missouri with her husband, Rev. Joseph Schlichting, who preceded her death on Dec. 15, 1976.

Her survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Schlichting, Concordia, John David and Barbara Schlichting, Blue Springs, James and Betty Schlichting, Oak Grove, Phillip and Shirley Schlichting, Sweet Springs, Mo., and Bill and Karen Schlichting, Herrin, Ill.; two daughters and son-in-law, Ann and Chuck Jedele, Silver Plume, Colo., and Esther Maxwell, Independence; a sister, Norma DeLong, Dunedin, Fla.; three brothers, Herbert Hulskotter, Bill Hulskotter and John Hulskotter, all of Vandalia; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Blackburn. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran cemetery, Blackburn. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Berg Mortuary Chapel, Blackburn. The family suggests contributions to the Lutheran Good Shepherd home, Concordia, and/or to the Zion Lutheran Church, Blackburn.

DOROTHY A. WAGGONER

Dorothy Ann Waggoner, 57, Independence, died Friday, March 19, 1999, at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Mrs. Waggoner was born July 30, 1941, in Alba, Mo., where she grew up before moving to the Kansas City area in 1958. She was a homemaker and was a claims adjuster for Allstate Insurance. She was an active member of the Noland Road Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as church clerk.

Her survivors include her husband, Jay Waggoner of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Doug Hibbing, Blue Springs, and Jenny and Jim Angle, Lee's Summit; her father and stepmother, Fred and Nancy Weeks, Carthage, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Nick and Nate McWilliams, and Kelsey and Kyle Angle.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Noland Road Baptist Church Memorial Fund in memory of Dorothy or to the American Cancer Society.

EDWARD W. BURKE

Edward Warren Burke, 80, Blue Springs, died Monday, May 18, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Burke was born May 17, 1918, in Leavenworth, Kan. He was the owner/operator of Burke`s House of Antiques in Marshall, Mo., and founded, owned and operated Burke & Crosby Vending Co. for the past 30 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the North Spring United Methodist Church.

His survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mary Helen Burke of the home; six sons, Edward W. Burke II, Los Gatos, Calif., Gary W. Burke, Orangevale, Calif., Stephen E. Burke and Robert A. Burke, both of Folsom, Calif., Michael F. Burke, Salina, Calif., and Thomas E. Burke, Blue Springs; three daughters, Judi A. Godinez, Independence, Connie M. Maggio, Grain Valley, and Terri K. Helton, Blue Springs; two brothers, John D. Burke, Mission, Texas, and Robert Burke, Leavenworth; three sisters, Shirley Mustain, Springfield, Mo., Emmajean McEvroy and Ruth Parsons, both of Leavenworth; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be noon Saturday at the church. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the building fund at the church.

JOSEPHINE H. IRELAND

Josephine H. Ireland, 83, Independence, died Friday, May 15, 1998.

Mrs. Ireland was a longtime Independence resident. She was devoted to various volunteer activities, including the Red Cross, Girl Scouts, First Christian Church of Independence, the Medical Center of Independence Auxiliary and many others.

Her survivors include two daughters, Sally Jo Ireland, Kansas City, and Ruie Ann Gibson, Leavenworth, Kan.; a grandson, Brent Gibson, San Antonio, Texas; a great-grandson, Paul Edward Gibson; three nieces, Shirley Hansell, Diane Hansell and Sandra Bruns; and two caregivers, Brenda Hill and Eugene Theiss.

Private memorial services were held at the All Faiths Chapel located in MCI. Mrs. Ireland`s desire was for memorial contributions to be donated to the Scholarchip Fund, in care of the Medical Center of Independence Auxiliary, which assists students seeking careers in the medical field.

PEARL E. JARBOE

Pearl E. Jarboe, 86, Independence, died Monday, May 18, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Jarboe was born Aug. 12, 1911, in Brookfield, Mo., and lived in Excelsior Springs, Mo., before moving to Independence 40 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank D. Jarboe, and a daughter, Donna L. Roofener.

Her survivors include three daughters, Lola J. Richardson, Lynnwood, Wash., H. Elaine Halastik, Independence, and Edna P. Brundick, Lee`s Summit; a son, Donald Kelly Jarboe, Blue Springs; a sister, Lola Young, Excelsior Springs; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Cremation. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the family to help defray funeral expenses.

JOHN H. MOSS

John Henry Moss, 75, Independence, died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Moss was born May 28, 1922, in Buckner. He worked for the Jones Truck Line for 33 years, retiring in 1979, and was a member of Teamsters Local Union 41.

His survivors include his wife, Alma Moss of the home; two sons, John R. Moss, Bates City, and Jerry W. Moss, Independence; two brothers, Everett Moss, Kansas City, and Russell Moss, Independence; two sisters, Ada Mae Woods and Florella Reynolds, both of Independence; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

CODY SKINNER

Cody Skinner, 2, St. Peters, Mo., died Sunday, May 17, 1998, in Gray Summit, Mo.

Cody was born April 12, 1996, in St. Louis.

His survivors include his mother, Cindy Boatright Skinner, St. Peters; a brother, Caleb D. Skinner of the home; his grandparents, Joyce "Mam Ma" Johnson, St. Peters, Ken Boatright, Alliance, Ohio, and Don F. and Kay R. Skinner, Independence; a great-grandmother, Rachel Oeser, Independence; uncles, including Kurt B. Skinner and Brian D. Skinner, both of Arnold, Mo.; aunts, including Deanna L. Bates of Independence; and cousins.

Services for Cody and his father, Kevin Skinner, who also died May 17, 1998, in Gray Summit, will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Baue Funeral Chapel in St. Charles, Mo. Burial will be in St. Charles Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

KEVIN SKINNER

Kevin Skinner, 34, St. Peters, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, in Gray Summit, Mo.

Mr. Skinner was born Dec. 25, 1963, in Independence. He had been the assistant city engineer for the city of St. Charles, Mo., for the past eight years. He was an Eagle Scout.

His survivors include his wife, Cindy Boatright Skinner, St. Peters; a son, Caleb D. Skinner of the home; his parents, Don F. and Kay R. Skinner, Independence; two brothers, Kurt B. Skinner and Brian D. Skinner, both of Arnold, Mo.; and a sister, Deanna L. Bates, and his grandmother, Rachel Oeser, both of Independence.

Services for Kevin and his son, Cody Skinner, who also died May 17, 1998, in Gray Summit, will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Baue Funeral Chapel in St. Charles, Mo. Burial will be in St. Charles Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

VINCENT F. HAGEDORN

Vincent Francis Hagedorn, 88, Marshall, Mo., died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at Big Bend Retreat, Slater, Mo.

Mr. Hagedorn was born May 2, 1910, in Slater, Mo., and had lived in Saline County, Mo., his entire life. He retired from the position as city collector of Marshall, which he held for more than 20 years.

He was a member of the Saline County Coin Club and Duplicate Bridge Club, as well as a lifetime member of Edward Hamill Chapter of Knights of Columbus 4th Degree where he served as treasurer for many years. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Marshall.

His survivors include his wife, Catherine Hagedorn of the home; two daughters, Janet Newton and Rebecca Brzuchalski, both of Marshall; five sons, V. Paul Hagedorn, Albuquerque, N.M., John L. Hagedorn, St. Louis, Mo., Robert D. Hagedorn, Blue Springs, Thomas H. Hagedorn, Marshall, and J. Alan Hagedorn, Kansas City; a sister, Kathryn Gotmer, Marshall; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Marshall. Burial will be in Slater City cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the church or to a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell-Lewis Funeral home, Marshall.
