JACK L. FUNK

Jack L. Funk, 76, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at St. Luke`s Hospital.

Mr. Funk was born March 30, 1922, in Shenandoah, Iowa. He was the owner/operator of Picture and Frame Industries, retiring in 1984, and had been the vice president of the First National Bank in Independence. He was a member of the Presbyterian faith, and a Coast Guard veteran of World War II.

His survivors include his wife, Martha Funk of the home; three sons, Chris Funk, Kansas City, Mark Funk, Kansas City, Kan., and Phillip Funk, Independence; one daughter, Cassy Gabbert, Blue Springs; three sisters, Shirley Young and Phyllis Funk, both of Shenandoah, and Patsy Gilliam, Dallas; two brothers, Ivan Funk, Shenandoah, and Rex Funk, Clarinda, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Cremation, with inurnment at Blue Springs cemetery.

VIOLA B. MAITLAND

Viola B. Phillips Maitland of Independence, died Wednesday Aug. 12, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Center.

Mrs. Maitland, a descendant of 1630 Puritan immigrants, was born May 28, 1905, in Ledyard, Conn., and moved to this area in 1945. She worked for Emery Byrd Thayer until it closed, then went to work for Harzfelds in Kansas City, retiring in 1971. She was a lifelong member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and a charter member of the South Crysler Restoration Branch. Her husband, Gomer E. Maitland, died in 1951.

Her survivors include three sons, Samuel A. Maitland and J. Arthur Maitland, both of Independence, and G. Enoch Maitland, Knoxville, Iowa; one daughter, Elnora V. Palmer, Independence; one stepson, LeRoy E. Maitland, Denver; two sisters, Evelyn Hysell, North Kansas City, and Virginia Bryce, Merrit Island, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the South Crysler Restoration Branch Memorial Fund.

OTIS L. McPHERSON SR.

Otis L. McPherson Sr., 60, Grain Valley, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. McPherson was born Aug. 28, 1937, in Floydada, Texas. He was a fireman for the city of Independence, retiring in 1994. He was a Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Sea Lion.

His survivors include his wife, Emma H. McPherson of the home; five sons, Otis McPherson Jr., Bates City, Tom McPherson, Independence, Marty McPherson, Lone Jack, and Daniel McPherson and Andy McPherson, both of Grain Valley; two brothers, Ken McPherson, Alaska, and Mike McPherson, Independence; and seven grandchildren, Josh Peter, Tara McPherson, Paige McPherson, Rebecca McPherson, Cody McPherson, Heather McPherson, and Skye Nuss.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

VERNON A. STEWART

Vernon Adams Stewart, 94, Independence, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lexington, Mo.

Mr. Stewart was born July 22, 1904, in Independence. He was a self-employed farmer.

His survivors include his wife, Catherine Halleran Stewart of the home; two sons, James Stewart, Lexington, and Fred Stewart, Independence; one daughter, Mary Frances Russell, Columbia, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at New Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the Walker-Nadler Funeral Home, Lexington.

DAVID L. COOK

David Lee Cook, 29, Sitka, Ark., died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Cook worked as a pool installer. He had formerly lived in Kansas City.

His survivors include a daughter, Cheyanne Cook, Blue Springs; his mother and father, Rhonda and Robert Cook Jr., Blue Springs; his maternal grandparents, Bufford and Hazeldene Flinn, Sitka; and his paternal grandfather, Robert Cook Sr., Warsaw, Mo.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Williford (Ark.) Church of Christ. Burial will be in New Hope cemetery, near Sitka. Visitation will be at the Williford Church of Christ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Heath Funeral Home-Oak Hill Chapel, Hardy, Ark.

JAMES H. "DICK" CORLEY

James Hudson "Dick" Corley, 83, Independence, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998.

Mr. Corley was born May 20, 1915, in Kansas City. He was a printing pressman with Associated Publications before his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, and an elder of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

His survivors include his wife, Louise Corley of the home; a son, Don H. Corley, Lee's Summit; a daughter, Carolyn McConchie, Blue Springs; a brother, Gerald B. Corley, Huntington Beach, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1400 W. Sheley Road, Independence. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church memorial fund or the Salvation Army. Arrangements are under the direction of the Floral Hills Funeral Home.

MARCEL DINGLI-ATTARD DE'BARONI INGUANEZ

Marcel Dingli-Attard de' Baroni Inguanez, 47, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Dingli-Attard was appointed Honorary Consul for the Republic of Malta in Missouri in December 1988. Titles he held include that of the Hereditary Nobility Descensional Titular of the Governorship of Malta and Gozo, title confirmed by the Royal Crown of Spain and bestowed upon the Barons of Inguanez, the 18th Baron of Ortigos, and 19th Baron of Hemsija and Zabbaria. Duly appointed King of Arms and First Herald serving His Serene Highness the Furst zur Lippe. He also served as Special Envoy for the United Nations Department of Public Information and was a member of the International Association of Educators for World Peace, an accredited NGO agency affiliated with the United Nations, New York City. Marcel, with the consent of the Republic of Malta and the Secretary of the State of the United States, also served by virtue of an Act of Cabinet of Head of Post for the Nevis Island Cultural Center, located in the U.S. Federal Building, Independence.

He was the founder of the Emergency Mutual-Aid Rescue Squad, served as an initial member of the Board of Commissioners, and was the deputy chief of the Fire Rescue Unit. He was granted a B. Phil from the University of San Anselmo (Rome). His doctorate was bestowed by Sussex College of Technology, Great Britain. He was a member of Saint Johns Ambulance Brigade. In Missouri, he was a devout member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church in Blue Springs.

His survivors include his wife, the Baroness Mary Ann Dingli-Attard de' Baroni Inguanez of the home; two daughters, Caroline Dingli-Attard de' Baroni Inguanez, Hereditary Nobiliary Descensional Titular of the Governorship of Malta and Gozo, Caroline XX Baroness of Ortigos, Baroness of Hemsija and Zabbaria, and by Baronessina Alexandra, both of the home; his mother, the Dowager Baroness, Mary Dingli-Attard, widow of the Baron Joseph XVII, Malta; two sisters, Bernadette Vella-Briffa, Malta, and Mariella Zammit, Seattle; one brother, Pierre Dingli-Attard, Malta; one uncle, Father Jim Dingli, Malta; and two aunts, Margaret Dingli and Lena Dingli, both of Malta.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Memorial Fund for the Children's Education, in care of the Maltese Consulate.

WILLIE R. EWING

Willie Robert Ewing, 88, Odessa, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at the New Haven Nursing Home in Odessa.

Mr. Ewing was born Aug. 12, 1910, in Mayview, Mo., and had lived in Odessa most of his life. He was the owner/manager of Scholl's Corner Drug Store in Odessa from 1923 to 1975. He was a Navy veteran, serving on the USS Burleigh as an X-ray technician and pharmacist corpsman, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5675 in Odessa. He was a 1928 graduate of Odessa High School, a charter member of the Odessa Lions Club, and a member of the former Odessa Golf group.

His survivors include two sisters, Inez Sullivan, Independence, and Lorene Oliaro, Lexington, Mo.; and two nephews, Thomas Ewing, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and John Sullivan, Independence.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in Greenton cemetery, Odessa. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Odessa Senior Citizens Center or Meals on Wheels.

JESSIE L. GENRICH

Jessie Lee Genrich, 66, Lee's Summit, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at the Lee's Summit Hospital.

Mrs. Genrich was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Gainsville, Mo. She was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church, St. Ann's Guild. She retired from the Internal Revenue Service as an auditor/supervisor. She was preceded in death by daughters, Ona Mae Genrich and Diana Lynne Tilley.

Her survivors include her husband, Joseph Genrich of the home; two daughters, JoAnn Andre of the home, and Carol Stathas, Blue Springs; a brother, John Clark, Harrisonville, Mo.; and grandchildren, Shannon, Phillip, Lee and Jessieca, Barrett, Nicolas Andre, Annette and Paul Stathas.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Webb-Freer Funeral Home.

VIRGINIA L. KING

Virginia Lea King, 67, Oak Grove, formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. King was born July 24, 1931, in Independence, and lived in Independence and Odessa before moving to Oak Grove 10 years ago. She was a member of the Colbern Road Restoration Branch Church, and served as a volunteer at Independence Regional Health Center and the Medical Center of Independence for several years.

Her survivors include her husband, Earl King of the home; one son, Jeff King, Odessa; her mother, Dorothy Barron, Oak Grove; one sister, Shirley McCarthy, Coquille, Ore.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, 9525 S. Main Entrance Road, Lee's Summit. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Odessa Hills Campground in care of the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.

JOHN F. MUMMAW

John F. Mummaw, 76, Blue Springs, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Mummaw was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Kansas City. He was a maintenance supervisor and did construction at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

His survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Nadine Mummaw, Lake Tapawingo; Gary and Tracey Mummaw, and Kevin and Debbie Mummaw, all of Blue Springs; three daughters, Robin Moses, Omaha, Neb., Marisa Rymer, Lee's Summit, and Paula Lee, McCune, Kan.; a sister, Norma Smith, Kansas City, 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 today at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association.

RACHEL J. PRICHARD

Rachel Jane Prichard, 85, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Prichard was born Sept. 20, 1913, in Lovington, Ill. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church of Independence.

Her survivors include one daughter, Nancy J. Jageman, Orlando, Fla.; one son, J. Andrew Prichard, and one sister, Dorcas Bailey, both of Fresno, Calif.; one brother, Enos Devine, Haywood, Calif.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at Keller cemetery, Lovington. Arrangements are under the direction of the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs.

H. VERNON RIVERS

H. Vernon Rivers, 75, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Rivers was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Kansas City and had lived in Kansas City until moving to Independence in 1958. He had worked for more than 20 years for Lake City Army Ammunition, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the National Methodist Camping Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pheobe Rivers in 1986.

His survivors include two sons, James Rivers and Gerald Rivers, both of Independence; three sisters, Esther Anderson, Mesa, Ariz., Lois Gould, Phoenix, Ariz., and Ethel Wheeler, Lone Jack; and a grandson, Kevin Rivers, Kansas City.

Memorial services and visitation will be 7 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Pleasant, Independence. The body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical School. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the National Kidney Fund and to the church.

FRANCES R. BOSLEY

Frances R. Bosley, 102, Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at the Independence Health Care Center.

Mrs. Bosley was born Aug. 22, 1896, in Leavenworth, Kan., and had lived in the Kansas City and Independence area for 20 years. She had been a receptionist for American Greeting Card Publishing Co. She was a member of Guardian Angel Parrish, Kansas City.

Her survivors include three sons, Mark F. Bosley, Independence, David A. Bosley III, Bremerton, Wash., and Richard Bosley, Florence, Ky.; a daughter, Barbara Power, Fairfax Station, Va.; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Independence. Burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery, Leavenworth. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel, where the prayer service and rosary will be at 8 p.m.

Mildred 'Pauline' Buie

Mildred 'Pauline' Buie, 80, Oak Grove, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at her home.

Mrs. Buie was born Sept. 26, 1919, in Buckner. She was a homemaker and a farmer. She was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, Buckner.

Her survivors include a daughter, Janet Buie Gilmore, Easley, S.C.; one son, Conard Lee Buie, Grandview; one brother, John W. Campbell, Independence; and four grandchildren, Holly, Hannah, Joshua and Gabriel Gilmore.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.

Jewel L. 'Judy' Bronson

Jewel L. 'Judy' Bronson, 83, Independence, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Bronson was born Sept. 5, 1916, in Goodson, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She had been a secretary for Webb-Belting. She was a member of the East Alton RLDS Church.

Her survivors include her husband, Cecil Bronson, Independence; two daughters, Diane Majors, San Antonio, Texas, and Barbara Bunch and husband, Will, Kansas City; a stepdaughter, Brenda Bronson-Walker, Lakewood, Colo.; two stepsons, Frazier Bronson, Middletown, Conn., and David Bronson, Mishawaka, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 9201 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Mo. 64114.
