OLGA M. KRONSBEIN

Olga Martha Oetting Kronsbein, 77, Lee`s Summit, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Kronsbein was born May 31, 1920, in Concordia, Mo. She was a payroll clerk for Sears, Roebuck and Co., retiring in 1982. She was a member of Timothy Lutheran Church, Blue Springs.

Her survivors include her husband, Herlen E. Kronsbein of the home; a son, James L. Kronsbein, Galveston, Texas; two daughters, Diana Kay Rutherford, Bucyrus, Kan., and Linda S. Lowe, Gardner, Kan.; three brothers, Erich Oetting, Concordia, Melvin Oetting, Higginsville, Mo., and Norman Oetting, Independence; and five grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs.

THOMAS J. MICKEY

Thomas J. Mickey, 58, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Mickey was born April 3, 1939, in Kansas City and had lived in the Greater Kansas City area all of his life. He worked for General Motors for 324 years, retiring in 1996. He was an Army veteran, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1000, and a graduate of East High School in Kansas City.

His survivors include his mother, Kathryn Mickey of the home; a son, Joseph Mickey, Lee`s Summit; two daughters, Gina Mickey, Independence, and Carol Mickey Royal; a brother, Ronald Mickey, Independence; a grandson, Alexander Royal; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark`s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Sheil Colonial Funeral Home, Raytown, where the rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

LORENA E. SCHEFFLER

Lorena Elisa Scheffler, 83, Rich Hill, Mo., died Friday, Aug.15, 1997. at the Bates County Memorial Hospital, Butler, Mo.

Ms. Scheffler was born Oct. 24, 1913, in Guthrie, Okla., and had lived in Adrian, Mo., for 12 years and the Kansas City area before moving to Rich Hill a year ago. She had been an assembly line worker for a potato chip company for several years. She had also worked for Foster Grandparents for the Independence School District, and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Nevada, Mo.

Her survivors include two sons, Arlo Leroy Scheffler, Deepwater, Mo., and Samuel Scheffler Sr., Lake Tapawingo; a daughter, Cleo Gilmore, Rich Hill; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Carson Blue Ridge Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Fort Leavenworth National cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the chapel.

MARIONC. SMITH

Marion C. Smith, 68, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Smith was born Dec. 7, 1928, in Wilburton, Okla., and had lived in Des Moines, Iowa, for more than 40 years before moving to Independence seven years ago. He retired after 21 years from Firestone Tire and Rubber, Des Moines. He had previously been a meat cutter for Safeway in Des Moines for 11 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a priest at Zion`s Witness Restoration Branch.

His survivors include his wife, Valdeene Smith of the home; two sons, Keith D. Smith, Dallas, and Mark B. Smith, Independence; a daughter, Gail R. Small, Independence; three sisters, Ruby Heiderschied and Jean Robison, both of Independence, and Velma Miklus, Des Moines; and three grandchildren, Lindsey Smith, Matthew Small and Monica Smith.

Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hill Cumorah Restoration Branch. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Speaks Midtown Chapel, Independence. The family suggests contributions to the Center Place Restoration School or the Hope Day School.

ANN M. WOOD

Ann Mariea Simsheuser Wood, 47, Kansas City, died Monday, Aug, 18, 1997, at Alpine North Care Center.

Mrs. Wood was born Jan. 1, 1950, in Kansas City. She had worked in security for the Kansas City Auto Auction for the past five years.

Her survivors include her companion, William "Bill" Austin of the home; a brother, Roy Simsheuser Sr., Independence; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.

ARTHUR M. "ART" BRENTS

Arthur M. "Art" Brents, 79, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Brents was born Dec. 28, 1918, in Kansas City, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a foreman for the GAF Roofing Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1982. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1000. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Viola Brents of the home; one daughter, Treasa Staley, Kansas City; one son, Larry Brents, Independence; one brother, Lawrence Brents, Stover, Mo.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

ROLLA W. CASTEEL

Rolla William Casteel, 91, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Casteel was born in Wellington, Mo., and had lived in Independence for more than 50 years. He worked for the Kansas City Post Office from 1945 until retiring as a supervisor in 1970. He was a 1933 graduate of William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo., taught school from 1933 to 1941, then did graduate work at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was an Army veteran of World War II, was a member of Mount Washington Baptist Church, and a 20 year member of Neighborhood Council 1 of Independence.

His survivors include his wife, Helen S. Casteel of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Carl E. and Sue Casteel, Independence; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet S. and Dennis Henry, Kansas City; one brother, Homer R. Casteel, Holden, Mo.; one sister, Gloria Mae Casteel, Kansas City; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be at Sunny Slope cemetery, Richmond, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church or William Jewell College.

MELVIN JOHNSON

Conrad Melvin Johnson, 77, Aurelia, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa.

Mr. Johnson was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Aurelia. He was a banker for 43 years for the First Trust & Savings Bank in Aurelia, retiring in 1981. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, a 1938 graduate of Aurelia High School, a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cherokee, a charter member of the Aurelia Kiwanis Club and Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post 390, and a member of the board of directors of Sunset Knoll Retirement Home. He was a past member of the Aurelia Municipal Electric Board, People's Telephone Board, and the Aurelia City Council and Commercial Club. His wife, Dorothy Rose Evans Johnson, died in 1994.

His survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Candi Johnson, Rochester, Minn., and Debbie and Bruce Banister, Independence; one sister, Ruth Anderson, Cherokee; one grandson, Scott Banister; and a special friend, Dorothy Murray of Cherokee.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery, Aurelia. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the Wharton-Redig Funeral Home, Aurelia. The family suggests contributions to the Sioux Valley Hospice Program in Cherokee, the American Cancer Society, or to the church.

RICHARD T. MANU

Richard Thomas Manu, 24, Independence, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Manu was born March 25, 1974, in Kansas City, Kan., and had lived in the Independence area most of his life. He was assistant manager of Total Petroleum in Independence. He was a member of the Calvary Sounds Church, and a 1992 graduate of William Chrisman High School.

His survivors include one daughter, Haley Nicole Greer, and his fiance, Regina Greer, both of the home; his parents, Isaia F. and Ruth Manu, and three sisters, Suzanne, Ruth L. and Rachel E. Manu, all of Independence; and his maternal grandfather and step grandmother, Fred Thomas Mabe Jr. and Lillian Mabe, Grandin, Mo.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 2120 Whitney Road. Burial will be in Floral Hills East cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Richard Thomas Manu Memorial Fund, in care of the Bank of Grain Valley, 14801 East U.S. 40, Kansas City, Mo. 64136. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

ADA R. WHITE

Ada R. White, 87, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at Park Lane Hospital.

Mrs. White was born April 15, 1911, in Walker, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Longview Christian Church. Before her marriage, she worked for Mrs. Coombs at Longview Farm. Her husband, Rupert V. White, died in 1979.

Her survivors include two daughters, Mary Havner and Gayle Hines, both of Independence; one sister, Bessie Nichols, Vero Beach, Fla.; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Private services. Burial will be in Lee's Summit cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel.

EDWARD L. FOSTER

Edward L. Foster, 74, Ozark, Ark., died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial.

Mr. Foster was born June 18, 1924, in Altus, Ark. He was retired from C.S.G. Insulation in Kansas City, Kan., and was a member of the Old Country Church.

His survivors include his wife, Linnie Maxwell Foster of the home; three sons, Edward L. Foster Jr., Henderson, N.C., Jackie Foster, Independence, and Billy Foster, Spring Valley, Minn.; three daughters, Linda Overbeck and Patricia Simons, both of Independence, and Vickie Murillo, Lee`s Summit; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Ozark. Burial was in Highland cemetery, Ozark.

STEVEN T. BAUER

Steven Thomas Bauer, infant son of Chris and Stephanie Bauer of Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, in West Yarmouth, Mass.

His survivors also include a sister, Kaitlyn Bauer, Grain Valley; maternal grandparents, Tom and Esther Shada, Blue Springs, and Steve and Valerie Bauer, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; maternal great-grandparents, Newman and Hazel Jenkins, Holdenville, Okla., Loris Shada, Owatonna, Minn., and Marvin and Lucille Martius, Byron, Minn.; paternal great-grandparents, Bob and Betty Bauer, Overland Park, Kan., and Anna Correll, Reno, Nev.; an uncle, Danny Bauer, Cedar Rapids; and three aunts, Michelle Salvatore, Alburtis, Pa., Terri Beth Shada, Blue Springs, and Vanessa Wagner, Lenexa, Kan.; and many other loving relatives.

Services were today at the First Church of the Nazarene, Blue Springs. Burial was in Blue Springs cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs.

STEVEN R. HARGUS

Steven Ray Hargus, 45, Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998.

Mr. Hargus was born Sept. 30, 1953, in Independence. He had worked for the GM Fairfax Assembly Plant for the past 22 years. He was a 1971 graduate of Truman High School and attended the

University of Missouri-Kansas City, was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-say and the First Christian Church of Independence.

His survivors include his parents, Loren and Patricia Hargus Jr.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Jim Ingram, and Nancy and John Ryan; and three nephews, Chris and Josh Ingram, and Sean Ryan.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Community Service League or Project Warmth.

CARRIE M. MAGEL

Carrie M. Magel, 85, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Center.

Mrs. Magel was born Jan. 16, 1913, in Story City, Iowa. She had worked for Peterson Manufacturing Co. for 19 years, and was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark C. Magel Sr. in 1955, and one son, Jacob Magel in 1945.

Her survivors include three sons, Mark C. Magel, Independence, David A. Magel, Federal Way, Wash., and Michael L. Magel, Kansas City; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.

SHIRLEY C. MYERS

Shirley C. Myers, 64, Kansas City, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Myers was born Jan. 3, 1934, in Adrian, Mo., and had lived most of her life in Butler, Mo., and Independence. She was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey A. Myers in 1989.

Her survivors include her husband, Donald K. Myers of the home; two sons, Donald K. Myers Jr., Kansas City, and Clayton E. Myers, Lee's Summit; one daughter, Susan Selder, Kansas City; seven grandchildren, Greg, Jennifer, Kenneth, Misty, Cara, Sam and Keith; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel; cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.

GEORGE W. "WINK" SQUIRES

George Winston "Wink" Squires, 94, Carrollton, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at the Carrollton Nursing Center.

Mr. Squires was born Feb. 19, 1904, near Wakenda, Mo., and had lived in this area for several years. He worked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant and was a machinist for the Bendix Corp., retiring in 1970. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Stanley.

His survivors include two sons, Bill Squires, Marshall, Mo., and Gene Squires, Warrensburg, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were Monday at the Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery, DeWitt, Mo. The family suggests contributions to the Carroll County Historical Society.
