JACK E. TOTTY

Jack Edward Totty, 80, Independence, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Mr. Totty was born Feb. 6, 1918, in Jefferson City. He owned and operated Totty's Market in Independence for many years, and later owned and operated Jet Barbecue in Kimberling City, Mo., for several years. After moving back to Independence, he continued to work part time at Snyders Market and was a greeter at Carson Funeral Home.

His survivors include his wife, Helen Totty of the home; two sons, Stewart Totty of the home, and Stephen Totty, Independence; one daughter, Kathleen Totty, Independence; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

PATRICIA A. DOMVILLE

Patricia Ann Domville, 63, Independence, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital.

Mrs. Domville was born April 18, 1935, in Kansas City, and had lived in this area most of her life. She had previously worked at the Internal Revenue Service and the Lee Ward Store in Independence. She had also been a beautician for several years. She was preceded in death by a son, Marc Domville in 1997.

Her survivors include her husband, Patrick Domville of the home; two sons, Matthew Domville and Michael Domville, both of Independence; her mother, Ruth Townley, Independence; and six grandchildren, Katheryne, Kaitlyne, James, Micca, Zachria and Samuel.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

JUANA A. NOWIN

Juana A. Nowin, 83, Shawnee, Kan., died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Providence Medical Center.

Mrs. Nowin was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Kansas City, Kan., and was a lifelong Kansas City area resident. She was a member of the Grandview Christian Church and its Christian Women's Fellowship for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Mendias-Hyacinth Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Social Order of Beauceant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter R. Nowin.

Her survivors include one son, Peter Dale Nowin of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jerry Jones, Blue Springs; a brother, Garrett Robertson, Overland Park, Kan.; three sisters, Ileana Hedlund, Overland Park, Kan., Barbara Bilyeu, Kansas City, Kan., and Martha Jackman, Seattle; four grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Porter Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery, Kansas City, Kan. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Women's Fellowship Grandview Christian Church.

ANN D. STRAW

Ann Dee Odle Straw, 55, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Straw was born Oct. 13, 1942, in Mountain Grove, Mo. She was a longtime member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mountain Grove. She was a customer service representative for GEHA in Independence.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Michelle Hopper, Bates City; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Mark Heather, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; her mother, Maxine Odle of the home; a sister, Sharon Clary, Mountain Grove; a brother, Terry Odle, Independence; four grandchildren, Amber and Matt Heather, Lindsey and Morgan Hopper.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hillcrest cemetery, Mountain Grove. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel.

LaDONNA J. FEVOLD

LaDonna J. Fevold, 62, St. Joseph, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Fevold was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Ottosen, Iowa, and lived in Osborn, Mo., before moving to St. Joseph. She was a secretary for the Rural Development Association, and a member of the Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church. Her husband, Rolland Fevold, died on April 19, 1981,

Her survivors include two sons, Paul Fevold, St. Joseph, and Ray Fevold, San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Richard Cooper, Osborn; two sisters, Diana Colhour and Kathy Holiman, both of Stewartsville, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Jerediah, Jessica, Ray Lee and Andrew Fevold.

Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Inurnment will be at a later date in Union cemetery, Humboldt, Iowa. Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to cancer research.

GRANVILLE C. McMAHILL

Granville C. McMahill, 80, Sugar Creek, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. McMahill was born in Akron, Colo., and had lived in this area most of his life. He worked in management for the city of Independence Power Plant, retiring in 1985. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

His survivors include a daughter, Mary Davis, Sugar Creek; four brothers, Walter W. McMahill, Grand Junction, Colo., Rex McMahill, Ankeny, Iowa, and D.D. McMahill and Leo McMahill, both of Independence; two sisters, Verle F. Knapp, Sharpsburg, Iowa, and Earlus D. Dopp, West Jordan, Utah.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

RENA L. ROBERTS

Rena Lee Roberts, 70, Kansas City, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, near Big Springs, Neb.

Mrs. Roberts was born Jan. 12, 1928, in Sweet Springs, Mo., and had lived in the Kansas City area as well as Newton, Iowa. She worked in group sales for the Kansas City Royals, retiring in 1997. She was an artist for Hallmark Cards in the 1940s and 1950s. She was a member of Maywood Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday school for many years.

Her survivors include her husband of 51 years, Farrell Roberts of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Judy Roberts, Tacoma, Wash., and Michael and Stephanie Roberts, Independence; a sister, Ginger Scanlan, Independence; her mother, Flora O'Dell, Kansas City; and three grandchildren, Jason, Aaron and Elias Roberts.

Memorial services were today at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

DAVID R. STEPHENSON SR.

David R. Stephenson Sr., 74, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Stephenson was born in Kansas City, and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a mechanic with ANR Freight Lines in Kansas City, Kan., retiring in 1986, and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Navy Reserve from 1964 until his retirement in 1984. He was very active in Boy Scout Troop 229, and had been a leader for 40 years, and was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence, where he had held many church positions.

His survivors include his wife, Betty Stephenson of the home; two sons, Russell Stephenson Jr., Bradleyville, Mo., and Charles O. Stephenson, Lee's Summit; two daughters, Patti Fitzwater, Raymore, Mo., and Stephanie Stephenson, Independence; a sister, Lovelle Coleman, Mount Vernon, Mo.; his stepmother, Edna Stephenson, Indianapolis; two stepsisters, Connie Milbourn, Indianapolis, and Beverly Christenson, Santee, Calif.; and five grandchildren, David III, Candice, Cassie, Christopher and Aaron.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Independence Community Foundation, Gift of Hope Hospice, or to Boy Scout Troop 229, in care of the First Christian Church of Independence.

JAMES J. "JIMMY" WESTMORELAND

James Jay "Jimmy" Westmoreland, 51, Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at University Hospital, Columbia, Mo.

Mr. Westmoreland was born Oct. 17, 1947, in Kansas City, and was a lifelong area resident. He was of the Baptist faith.

His survivors include his parents, J.T. and June Westmoreland of the home; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jerry and Adrienne Westmoreland, and John F. Westmoreland, all of Independence; two nieces, Kristy and Ashley Westmoreland; two nephews, Jeffrey and Ryan Westmoreland; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at New Salem Funeral Home. Burial will be in New Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Missouri Baptist Children`s Home, P.O. Box 447, Peculiar, Mo. 64078.

LESLIE L. COOK

Leslie L. Cook, 76, Raytown, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Cook was born in Syracuse, Mo. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

His survivors include his wife, Maxine K. Cook of the home; two daughters, Sandy Rimmer, Blue Springs, and Bev Shine, Milwaukee, Wis.; a sister, Cynthia Lyster, Chicago; four granddaughters, Julie Giboney, Melanie Rimmer, Tracie Rimmer and Amanda Shine; and two grandsons, Kevin Shine and Scott Shine; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Peace Lutheran Church or to Carondelet Hospice.

ONA M. BRADFORD

Ona M. Bradford, 89, Raytown, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at the Park Place Care Center in Raytown.

Mrs. Bradford was born June 8, 1909, in rural McAlester, Okla., and lived in Independence for 50 years before moving to Raytown three years ago. She had been a seamstress for Crest Originals, and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was also a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, and a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bradford on Dec. 15, 1990, and her daughter, Wanda J. Norris in 1992.

Her survivors include three sons, James K. Bradford and William L. Bradford, both of Independence, and Jess S. Bradford, Clinton, Mo.; one sister, Arizona Trammell, Independence; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Memory Gardens cemetery, McAlester. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church.

GROVER C. DAVIS

Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Grover C. Davis, 75, Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Davis was born March 12, 1923, in Kansas City, and traveled the world while in the military, returning to this area in 1975. He retired from the Air Force in August 1965, having received the following medals, National Defense Service, Air Force Commendation with one Oak Leaf Cluster, American Campaign, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign with two Bronze Service Stars, and World War II Victory. He also received the Longevity Service Award with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, was a stenographer for Gen. Benjamin O. Davis. He was a Prisoner of War, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and the U.S.A.F. Longevity Club.

His survivors include three sons, Michael F. Davis, San Francisco, and David W. Davis and Patrick M. Davis, both of Independence; one sister, Maxine Wadell, Anaheim, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at the House of Prayer, 1706 N. Jennings Road, Independence. Private burial will be in the National cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the New Covenant Faith Center, 1706 N. Jennings Road, Independence, Mo. 64058. Arrangements are under the direction of the New Salem Funeral Home.

THEODORE W. GAUERT

Theodore William Gauert, 89, Kansas City, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center.

Mr. Gauert was born Sept. 19, 1909, in Binger, Okla., and lived in Sedalia, Mo., before moving to this area. He worked for Sears for 28 years, and was also the owner/operator of the Sedalia Motel. He was a member of Ararat Shrine Temple, and was a 32nd degree Mason.

His survivors include his wife, Marie Craig Gauert, Kansas City; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Leon Schoor; four grandchildren, Mark, Vickie and Kyle Breon and Rachel Schoor; and 10 great-grandchildren, Krystle, Alex, Lauren, Ashley, Conner, Bailey, Brooke, Kodie, Jenna and Kaitlyn.

Services were Sunday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City; cremation. The family suggests contributions to Children`s Mercy Hospital.

EILEEN I. GLOW

Eileen I. Glow, 78, Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Center.

Mrs. Glow was born March 17, 1920, in Kansas City, and had lived in this area most of her life. She worked for Minute Circle Friendly House. Her husband, Frank Glow, died in 1977.

Her survivors include three sons, Tom Glow, Helotis, Texas, Jim Glow, Independence, and Steve Glow, Glendale, Ariz.; one sister, Marietta Haight, Magalia, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Park Lawn Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Minute Circle Friendly House, 24th and Elmwood, Kansas City.

CLARA J. KENSINGER

Clara J. Kensinger, 89, Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at the Independence Health Care Center.

Mrs. Kensinger was born March 7, 1909, in Fort Scott, Kan. She was a homemaker most of her life, but worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an operator and for Safeway. She was a charter member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Eurit Kensinger.

Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ruthann and Kent Simcosky, Denver; four grandsons, Stephen, Kerry, Brent and Keven Simcosky; and three great-grandchildren, James, Sarah and Hannah.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

STELLA P. SHENEFIELD

Stella P. Shenefield, 87, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at the Gower (Mo.) Convalescent Center.

Mrs. Shenefield was born July 8, 1911, in Mason City, Iowa, and had lived in Independence and this area since 1942. She was a baker for several bakeries in the Kansas City and Omaha areas. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 329 in Independence. Her husband, Ivar Trent Shenefield, died in 1977.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry R. and Judy Shenefield, Weston, Mo.; one daughter, Marjorie J. Cox, Independence; one stepdaughter, Marlene Hamilton, Kansas City, Kan.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Memorial services were today at the Vaughn Funeral Chapel, Weston; cremation. The family suggests contributions to the Dream Factory of Kansas City.
