HARLEY O. TOMLINSON

Harley Olan Tomlinson, 59, Watonga, Okla., formerly of Independence, died Monday, March 23, 1998.

Mr. Tomlinson was born Feb. 12, 1939, in Fay, Okla., and had lived in Independence for several years before moving back to Watonga last year. He attended Watonga schools and graduated from Watonga High School. He attended airline school at American Airlines, and served in the U.S. Army for two years. He played guitar and sang in country/western bands.

His survivors include three brothers, Cletis Tomlinson, Watonga, Sidney Raford, Wichita, Kan., and Jackie Tomlinson, Watonga; and five nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were today at Liberty cemetery, Fay, Okla. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilkinson Mortuary, Watonga.

CORINE I. WRIGHT

Corine Irma Wright, 73, Independence, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Wright was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Glidden, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Wright, and a daughter, Paula Miller.

Her survivors include two sons, Blaine Wright and Jeff Wright, both of Independence; a daughter, Carla Cornish, Holt, Mo.; a sister, Marvel Mason, Fort Dodge, Iowa; a brother, Wilbur Hudson, Kelso, Wash.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

WILLIAM R. HERNDON

William R. Herndon, 60, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Herndon was born April 30, 1937, in Blue Springs. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

His survivors include two brothers, John D. Herndon, Lee`s Summit, and Bruce Herndon, Lake Tapawingo; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs; cremation.

STELLA B. POWELL

Stella Berniece Wendel Powell, 78, Grain Valley, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at Mariner Health of Olathe, Kan.

Mrs. Powell was born in Kansas City and had lived in Grain Valley for the past 54 years. She had worked at Lake City Arsenal and at Black, Sivalls & Bryson before retiring in the 1970s. She was a member of the Grain Valley Christian Church and the Blue Springs Chapter 428 of the Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gordon Powell on June 27, 1995.

Her survivors include a daughter, Orita Kirkman, Olathe; four granddaughters, Debbie Barnes, Lois R. Kirkman, Dawn Kirkman and Elizabeth Kirkman; two grandsons, Paul Hunt and Neal Jeffers; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Buckner cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Heart Surgery Fund for Needy Children, in care of Children`s Mercy Hospital, 23rd and Gillham, Kansas City, Mo.

CLAYTON RICKETTS

Clayton Ricketts, 71, Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Ricketts was born Dec. 26, 1927, in Altona, Mo. He was a retiree of Armco Steel after 31 years of service.

His surivors include his wife of 49 years, Jean Ricketts of the home; two daughters, Nancy Simons, Buckner, and Darlene Teller, Glendale, Ariz.; two brothers, Kenneth Ricketts, Raymore, Mo., and Russell Ricketts, Kansas City; three sisters, Waneta Brand, Prairie Village, Kan., Louise Lawson, Junction City, Calif., and Veta Warren, Abilene, Kan.; a grandson, Tim Simons, Warsaw, Mo.; and a great-grandson, Trenton Simons, Warsaw.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Memories, Grain Valley. Burial will be in Jackson County Veterans Field of Honor. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Swan Lake Memorial Gardens/Chapel of Memories, Grain Valley.

ROBERT M. EDMUNDSON

Robert Marion Edmundson, 63, Kearney, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Edmundson was born Jan. 10, 1935, in Sedalia, Mo., and lived in Blue Springs before moving to Kearney in 1987. He was a millwright for the Ford Motor Co. in Claycomo, Mo., for 32 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Blue Springs Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies of Kansas City, Ararat Shrine Temple and the First Baptist Church of Kearney.

His survivors include his wife, Judy C. Frye Edmundson of the home; a son, Robert M. Edmundson Jr., San Antonio, Texas; three daughters, Ardyth Jeanne Cassel, St. Charles, Mo., Rebecca A. Edmundson, Kansas City, and Jennifer D. Turner, Charlotte, N.C.; three stepsons, Greg A. Dunkin, Indianapolis, Gary D. Dunkin, New York City, and Marine Corps Maj. Steven M. Dunkin, Yuma, Ariz.; his mother, Erma N. Edmundson, Sedalia; a sister, Mary Jeannette Borders, Caldwell, Idaho; five grandchildren; and three step granddaughters.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Fry Funeral Home, Kearney. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions to Liberty Hospital Hospice, 112 Westwoods Drive, Liberty, Mo. 64068. Arrangements are under the direction of the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe, Kan.

WILLIAM J. KLEUVER

William J. Kleuver, 78, Independence, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at Parklane Medical Center.

Mr. Kleuver was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Jackson County, Mo. He worked for the General Motors Leeds Assembly Plant for 31 years, retiring in 1977. He owned and operated a dog kennel for several years, and later raised miniature horses. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Ellen E. Kleuver, died in 1990.

His survivors include two brothers, John P. Kleuver Jr., Kansas City, and Charles Kleuver, Pittsburg, Mo.; two sisters, Josephine Stumbo, Garden Grove, Calif., and Margaret Helen Jordan, Independence; two nephews, John P. Kleuver III and Ferrod Stumbo; and a niece, Terry Gionnis.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel, where a prayer services will be held at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

CHRISTOPHER J. CORBETT

Christopher Jordan Corbett, 20, Hixson, Tenn., formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999.

Mr. Corbett was employed by JIT Terminal, and was a member of Central Church of Christ and the Young Professional Class there. He was a 1997 graduate of Soddy-Daisy (Tenn.) High School and attended Chattanooga (Tenn.) State Technical College.

His survivors include his wife, Rita Brown Corbett, and a daughter, Kaytie Lynn Corbett, both of the home; his parents, Stan and Becky Corbett, and one sister, Angie Corbett, all of Hixson; his grandparents, Delbert and Julia Hooper, Independence, and Charles and Ila Corbett, Mammoth Spring, Ark.; two great-grandmothers, Bernice Hooper, Independence, and Flora Hurtt, Mammoth Spring; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services were June 19 at the Williamson & Sons Funeral Home, Soddy-Daisy. Burial was in Hamilton County Memorial Park, Soddy-Daisy. The family suggests contributions to the Christopher Jordan Corbett Memorial Fund, in care of Central Church of Christ, 400 Vine St., Chattanooga, Tenn. 37403.

BERTHA FULLER

Bertha Rockwood Fuller, 79, Independence, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at the Park Lane Medical Center, Kansas City.

Mrs. Fuller was born June 25, 1919, in Pittsburg, Kan., and had lived in Independence for 44 years. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Group. Her husband, Lonnie Rockwood, died Sept. 12, 1974.

Her survivors include one son, James Rockwood, Independence; one daughter, Linda K. Lage, Kansas City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mound Grove cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel.

EDWIN F. MERRET

Edwin Felix Merret, 75, Blue Springs, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Merret was born May 21, 1924, in Mill Shoals, Ill.

His survivors include his wife, Berniece Merret of the home; a granddaughter, Sabrina Elliott, and her husband, Wes, of McLoud, Okla.; two grandsons, Damon Selle, Olathe, Kan., and Travis Selle, Kansas City; a daughter-in-law, Jann Selle; and great-grandchildren, Niklas and Dylan Elliott, and Olivia Selle.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit. Burial will be in Brooking cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Carondelet Hospice, 201 West R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs, Mo. 64014.

MARVIN T. WEBB

Marvin Tucker Webb, 90, Grain Valley, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at St. Mary's Manor in Blue Springs.

Mr. Webb was born Aug. 28, 1909, in Buckner. He was an inspector for the Ford Motor Co. for 35 years, was a Grain Valley Municipal Judge for many years, and was a deputy for the Jackson County Board of Election Commission. He was a graduate of Halls Memorial High School in Buckner, a member of Grain Valley Methodist Church, and a charter member of the Grain Valley Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Webb on June 14, 1996, and a daughter, Naomi Weddle in 1959.

His survivors include one grandchild, Katona Mulholland, Grain Valley; two great-grandchildren, Paul Bradley Mulholland, Independence, and Valerie Michelle Mulholland, Grain Valley; two sisters, Esther Grieshaber, Raytown, and Frances Grote, Oak Grove; and one brother, Paul Webb, Independence.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

BILLY F. BOBBITT

Billy Forrest Bobbitt, 65, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Care Center.

Mr. Bobbitt was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Waldron, Ark., and had lived in the Independence area for 35 years. He was employed by Valenite Inc. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. His memberships include Alpha Masonic Lodge, Westport York Rite, Scottish Rite, Wichita, Kan., Ararat Shrine Temple, Ararat Drum & Bugle Corps Unit and was a former drum major and director, Transporters Club of Ararat Temple, Jackson County Shrine Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles 3717, and a bowling and golf league in Shenandoah, Iowa.

His survivors include his wife, Melvera Bobbitt of the home; a daughter, Brenda Bobbitt, Tulsa, Okla.; and two brothers, J.W. Bobbitt, Billings, Mo., and Donald J. Bobbitt, Wichita, Kan.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the Park Lawn Chapel, where there will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Shriners Crippled Children's Fund.

JAMES A. YOUNG SR.

James Albert Young Sr., 78, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Young was born Feb. 20, 1920, in Finey, Mo., and had lived near Clinton before moving to Independence in 1964. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Union UAW Local 93, Windsor Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Ararat Shrine. He had worked for General Motors, Leeds Plant, for more than 20 years before retiring in 1984. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, James Richard Young and Donnie Dean Hudson.

His survivors include his wife, Gladys Young of the home; a son, James Young Jr., Blue Springs; two daughters, Judy Hudson, Kayenta, Ariz., and Sharon Church, Clinton, Mo.; two sisters, Cleo Lutes, Blue Springs, and Peggy Smith, Independence; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Masonic graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the Englewood cemetery, Clinton. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association.

TYLER C. JONES

Tyler Cobb Jones, 23, Lee's Summit, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Childrens' Mercy Hospital.

Mr. Jones was born Sept. 3, 1975, in Kansas City. He was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church. He graduated from O'Hara High School in 1994. He participated in four years of soccer and served as a basketball manager four years. He also attended two years at Longview Community College and served as a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Josephine Barnett and paternal great-grandfather, Lawrence Gibbons.

His survivors include his father and mother, Lawrence R. and Teresa J. Jones, a sister, Tessa Jones, and a brother, Trenton Jones, all of the home; grandparents, Elmer and Ruth Barnett, Oak Grove, Raymond and Barbra Jones, Kerrville, Texas, and Lester and Connie Todt, Blue Springs; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Tyler Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund at O'Hara High School, in care of the Bank of Jacomo, South Missouri 7, Blue Springs, Mo.; or to the PICU unit of Childrens' Mercy Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs.

W. EUGENE "GENE" DIXON

W. Eugene "Gene" Dixon, 72, Independence, died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Dixon was born Jan. 8, 1925, in Curryville, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1965. He worked for the Mobay Chemical Corp. for 20 years, retiring in 1987. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.

His survivors include his wife, Darline Dixon of the home; a son, Gary A. Dixon; a daughter, Lois J. Pitts; four grandchildren, Clarisa L. Pitts, Sarah N. Dixon, Leah D. Dixon and Caleb J. Dixon; and one great-grandson, James P. Pardee III.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

BEULAH A. EARLEY

Beulah A. Earley, 83, Independence, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Early was born March 11, 1914, in Nowata County, Okla.

Her survivors include eight sons, Bill Earley, Wayne Earley, Tom Earley, Harry Earley, Jerry Earley and Jack Earley, all of Independence, and Joe Earley, Midland, Texas, and Dan Earley, Blue Springs; five daughters, Ina Bechtel, Belton, Mo., Martha Earley, Janet Montavy and Norma Wall, all of Independence, and Mary Henry, Blue Springs; a brother, Floyd Lewis, Miramar, Fla.; 29 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Nowata cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
