WILLIAM T. POPPLEWELL SR.

William Tennyson Popplewell Sr., 79, Kansas City, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital.

Mr. Popplewell was born July 29, 1919, in Brumley, Mo. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was in sales with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., and later retired from construction as a superintendent. After retiring, he owned and sold skylights for Tennclair Co., Rocky Mount, Mo. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Claire Marie Popplewell in 1996.

His survivors include three sons, Steve Popplewell, Jefferson City, Mo., Don Popplewell, Boulder, Colo., and Bill Popplewell, Mission Hills, Kan.; six grandchildren, Morgan Popplewell, Drew Popplewell, William Popplewell III, Georgie Baldus, Kathy Morris and Kristen Ashner; and a great-granddaughter, Ellie Morris.

Memorial services will be at 5 today at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, 6800 W. 93rd St., Overland Park, Kan. 66212.

RUTH J. REDICK

Ruth Jean Redick, 80, Blue Springs, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at St. Mary's Manor of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Redick was born in Kansas City. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Blue Ridge Methodist Church and the Methodist Women's Society, PEO, and the Shrine Needle Guild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd A. Redick Sr.

Her survivors include two sons, Lloyd A. Redick Jr., Raytown, and David B. Redick, Centralia, Mo.; two daughters, Carol A. Lebs, Blue Springs, and Laura J. Barham, Independence; a brother, Wendell B. Reiss, St. Joseph, Mo.; a half sister, Carol Jean Bower, Olympia, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Center of Kansas City.

WILMA L. RODGERS

Wilma Leona Rodgers, 60, Independence, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City.

She was born Aug. 23, 1938, in Independence. She was a member of the Baptist Church and served as a Missionary in Africa for many years.

Her survivors include two sisters, Ruth Marie Parker, Sugar Creek, and Virginia Sue Lynn, Holden, Mo.; a brother, Richard Allen Rodgers, Independence; and aunt and uncle, Marie and Orville Butler and Juanita Casey.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rockwood Baptist Church in Independence. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. The family suggests floral tributes or contributions to the Baptist International Mission Board, P.O. Box 6767, Richmond, Va. 23230-0767.

ROSE MARTIN

Rose Martin, 91, Independence, died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Martin was born Sept. 6, 1907, in Corder, Mo., and had lived most of her life in Independence. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford W. Martin in 1989, and a son, Glen R. Martin in 1993.

Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Raynor Smart, Independence; a son, Clifford Martin Jr., New Port Richey, Fla.; a sister, Amelia Rose, Higginsville, Mo.; a brother, Henry Holthoff, Baltimore, Md.; four granddaughters, Melissa Zwang, Mary K. Colby, Lorrie Roderick, and Cheryl Hixon; two grandsons, Vincent K. Martin and Clifford W. Martin II; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

MARJORIE H. CUSIC

Marjorie H. Cusic, 75, Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Cusic was born June 13, 1923, in Kansas City, and had lived in Independence most of her life. She was a member of the Sheffield Family Life Center.

Her survivors include her husband, Marty L. Cusic of the home; two daughters, Deloris Farmer and Marlene Cusic, both of Independence; a sister, Opal Lampkin, Raytown; two grandchildren, Rick VanDolah, Kansas City, and Joe VanDolah, Blue Springs; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel.

JAMES P. O'CONNOR

James Patrick O'Connor, 55, Lee's Summit, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at his home.

Mr. O'Connor was born Jan. 6, 1943, in New York City. He was currently a community relations specialist for the city of Lee's Summit. He retired from the Secret Service after 21 years of service. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas, and was an Air Force veteran. He had a great interest in local history, and aided the author in research for the book "The Devil Knows How to Ride." He was also a member of WOLA.

His survivors include his wife, Janice O'Connor of the home; his mother, Ann O'Connor, Kansas City; two sons, Kevin O'Connor, Seattle, and Joseph O'Connor, Portland, Ore.; and their mother, June O'Connor, Independence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Presentation Catholic Church. Burial will be in Longview Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit, where a rosary will be said at 8 p.m.

Wilma L. Annis

Wilma Leigh Annis, 59, Grain Valley, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Research Medical Center.

Mrs. Annis was born April 26, 1940, in Kansas City. She was a homemaker and a Protestant. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Newland, in 1981.

Her survivors include her husband, Kenneth Annis of the home; one son, Mark Newland, Harrisonville, Mo.; one daughter, Lori Newland, Lee's Summit; a stepdaughter, Tammy Read, Independence; one brother, Donald Trammell, California; one sister, Patricia Graves, Ordway, Colo.; and four grandchildren, Tiffany, Trisha, Timothy and Mitchell.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Blue Springs Chapel. Burial will be in Lee's Summit cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

Tressa M. Hutsell

Tressa M. Parrish Hutsell, 98, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at The Groves.

Mrs. Hutsell was born Aug. 2, 1903, in Duquoin, Ill. She was a beautician and owned her own salon in Knob Noster, Mo., for many years.

Her survivors include a daughter, Eva L. Fisher, a grandson, Mark Fisher, and two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Kyle Fisher, all of Las Vegas; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bennett and Lavone Enfield, Tulsa, Okla.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Farview Restoration Branch, 24th and Vermont streets. Cremation with a private burial at a later date at Knob Noster cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hinton-Gibson Funeral Home, Raytown.

Naomi G. Lamberson

Naomi Grace Lamberson, 87, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Lamberson was born Aug. 19, 1914, near Purdy, Mo., the daughter of John and Catherine Balmas. She had lived in Galena, Mo. before moving to the Independence area ten years ago. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Olga Lamberson, in 1993.

Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Dr. Robert "Bob" Watkins, Independence; her son and daughter-in-law, Ralph Edgar and Nancy Lamberson, Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Nicole Gaulden and her husband, David, Matthew Watkins and his wife, Vanessa, and Teresa Hopper and her husband, Robert; and five great-grandchildren, Jessica Gaulden, Catherine Gaulden, Samuel Gaulden, Tyler Hopper and Gabriela Watkins.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church in Monette, Mo. Burial will be in Waldensian cemetery, Monette. Friends can visit from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Hope House or Christ United Methodist Church Organ Fund in Independence.

Raschell J. Mance

Raschell J. Mance, 43, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 705 Walnut St. Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Park Lawn Funeral Home.

Kenneth R. Royer

Kenneth R. Royer, 79, Oak Grove, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Saint Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Royer was born July 5, 1922, in Coffeyville, Kan., the son of Ernest and Frances (Hodge) Royer. He married Lois Jane Pigg on March 13, 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from St. Louis School of Mortuary Science in 1946 and from the University of Kansas City in 1948. He taught school at Northeast Junior High School in Kansas City for approximately 15 years. He moved to Oak Grove in 1950 and established Royer Funeral Home in Oak Grove in 1959. He built houses in the Oak Grove area and was instrumental in the development of the nursing home, the civic center and Davis Memorial Center. He was a member of the Oak Grove Development Foundation for many years. Until recently, he was president of Oak Grove Senior Citizens, Inc. He was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, the Oak Grove Masonic Lodge, the Oak Grove American Legion Post #499 and Oak Grove Senior Citizens, Inc. In June, 1998, he was recognized by the Missouri Funeral Directors Association for 50 years of funeral service.

His survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lois Royer, of the home; three sons, Ronald Royer, and his wife, Nancy, and Philip Royer and his wife, Uneeda, all of Kansas City, and Pete Royer and his wife, Barbara, Oak Grove; and five grandsons, Ben Royer, United States Air Force, Yigo, Guam, Elliot Royer, Chicago, Ill., Christopher Royer, Columbia, Mo., Eric Royer, Oak Grove, and Mark Royer, Northfield, Minn.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will follow in Oak Grove cemetery. Friends can visit from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Oak Grove Senior Citizens, Inc.

Wanda B. Williams

Wanda B. Williams, 82, Independence, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in Independence.

Mrs. Williams was born May 16, 1919, in Ava, Mo., the daughter of F.E. "Eddie" and Mayme A. (Wilson) Burdett. On Jan. 21, 1940, she married J. Harry Williams in Douglas County. She was retired from the Ava Public School System, where she served as a special education teacher and most recently a speech pathologist. She received her master's degree from Drury College in 1960 and her specialty degree in speech pathology from Tulsa University in 1962. She was a member of Ava United Methodist Church, where she served in a variety of positions over many years, including baking pies for fund-raisers as well as serving as president of the official board. She was active in many other activities and organizations, including crafting, the PEO and the Southwest Missouri Office of Aging. She was a volunteer at the Vesper Hall Center for Senior Citizens and had recently attended the First United Methodist Church of Blue Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two sisters, Elloree Henley and Rhasneh Tidwell.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Debbie Williams, Blue Springs; three grandchildren, Brendan, Meghan and Heather Williams; three sisters, Frieda Hesterlee, Lee's Summit, Gwen Harley, Dallas, and Willamae Ball, Dallas; two nephews, Larry Harley and wife, Jenny, and Dr. Ed Hesterlee and wife, Pam; and one niece, Sally Tope.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ava United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the building fund at the church, in care of Barnes Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 65, Ava., Mo. 65608.

Ronald K. Whiting

Ronald K. Whiting, 56, Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Baptist Medical Center, Kansas City.

Mr. Whiting was born April 3, 1944, in Independence, the son of Harvey R. and Rhoda (Knight) Whiting. He was an evangelist in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a member of the Independence Mayorıs Committee on People with Disabilities. He retired from the state of Missouri, Department of Education, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation after 32 years of service.

His survivors include his wife of 35 years, Sherry Whiting, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Ronda Whiting, a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Chuck Mabie, and two grandchildren, Cameron Mabie and Molly Whiting, all of Independence; his father, Harvey Whiting; one sister, Patty Askew and husband, Howard; one brother, Bob Whiting and wife, Margie; his mother-in-law, Punch OıDell; his father-in-law, Glenn OıDell, and his aunt and uncle, Ernest and Marie Kennicutt, all of Independence; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

E. A. "Speedy" Stoneman

E. A. "Speedy" Stoneman, 95, Independence, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Stoneman was born Oct. 4, 1905, in Perry Sound, Ontario, Canada, and moved to Independence in 1944. He was the owner and operator of Speedy's Grocers at 23rd Street and Chrysler for 17 years. He was Zamboni Operator at Kemper Arena and the American Royal from 1967 to 1979. He was employed at Cool Crest in Independence for 20 years. He was a member of the Pioneer Restaurant Liars table. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Carol, in 1982.

His survivors include four sons, Donald E. Stoneman, Tucson, Ariz., Charles R. Stoneman, Oak Grove, J. D. Stoneman, Napoleon, Mo. and Alan E. Stoneman, Independence; a daughter, Patty K. Hawley, Payton, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Salem Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions in honor of 'Speedy' and Carol to The Kansas Dyslexia Association, c/o C. Wilson Anderson, President/Secretary, 2812 S.W. Osborn Road, Topeka, Kan. 66614-2438

Clifford G. Clary

Clifford Glenn Clary, 79, Lexington, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at the Lafayette Regional Health Care Center, Lexington.

Mr. Clary was born June 15, 1921, in Kansas City, the son of Clyde George and Grace Lillian (Reynolds) Clary. He worked for the Independence Cab Company. He moved to Odessa in Aug., 1988. He was a member of Church of Christ with the Elijah Message.

His survivors include his wife, Shara A. Martin Clary, of Odessa; a daughter, Bobbie Thomas, Mo.; a sister, Marjorie Jones, Independence; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services were Thursday at Mount Tabor cemetery, southeast of Odessa.

Arrangements were under the direction of Husman-Sparks-McDowell Funeral Home, Inc.
