LYDIA M. ANDERSON

Lydia Mae Anderson, 76, Raytown, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Anderson was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Calhoun, Mo., and had lived in this area most of her life. She was an electronics assembler for Rycon Instruments before she retired.

Her survivors include her husband, Willis Anderson of the home; a daughter, Frances Lankton, Raymore, Mo.; a brother, Edward Mason, Independence; three grandsons, Jerry Ray Lankton Jr., David Lankton and Willis Lankton; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were Monday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial was in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. The family suggests contributions to the Greater Kansas City Hospice.

EAN J. BERENDZEN

Dean Josephine Berendzen, 86, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Berendzen was born Nov. 20, 1910, in Eugene, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1957. She was a seamstress for Fox Manufacturing in Kansas City for 22 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Ann`s Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Berendzen in 1975.

Her survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Berendzen and Nancy Marriott, both of Independence; two sons, Paul Berendzen, Versailles, Mo., and Wayne Berendzen, Sedalia, Mo.; two sisters, Nell Tellman, Eugene, Mo., and Ellen Slicker, Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Clifford Feltrope, Diamond, Ark., and Bill Feltrope, Kansas City; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Marys Home, Mo. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Snows cemetery, Marys Home. Visitation will be held until 8 tonight at the Phillips Chapel, Marys Home, where the a rosary will be held at 3 and 7 p.m.

ALAN W. BLAKE

Alan W. Blake, 32, Redmond, Wash., formerly of Independence, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997.

Mr. Blake was born July 17, 1965, in Kansas City, and lived in Independence, and Bellevue, Wash., before moving to Redmond. He was a 1983 graduate of Raytown High School and attended Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg.

His survivors include his wife, Sundra Harwood Blake of the home; his parents, Al and Mary Blake, Bellevue; a sister, Lea Anne Jackson, Kent, Wash.; and a niece and nephew.

Memorial services were today at the Green`s Bellevue Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Heart of America Council, Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 414177, Kansas City, Mo. 64141 or Lang Oncology Unit, Overlake Hospital, 1035 116th Ave. North East, Bellevue, Wash. 98004.

LOUIS BURTON

Louis Burton, 67, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Burton was born June 14, 1930, in Clinton, Mo. He was a receiving clerk at Lakeside Hospital for 10 years, retiring in 1992. He had been a truck driver most of his life. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His survivors include his wife, Nina Fern Fleener Burton, Independence; two sons, Jeff Stiffler, Blue Springs, and Kenney Stiffler, Independence; two daughters, Jan Hostetler, Lee`s Summit, and Joyce McGenley, West Plains, Mo.; a brother, Larry Burton, Fresno, Calif.; a half brother, Walter Preston, Rockville, Mo.; three sisters, Margaret Smith, Norwalk, Calif., Lilly Edwards, Westminster, Calif., and Alice Dulica, Kansas City; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven nieces; and six nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home, Warrensburg, Mo. Burial will be in Mineral Creek cemetery, Leeton, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association, and may be left in care of the funeral home.

LADONNA S. HURST

LaDonna Sue Hurst, 48, Higginsville, Mo., died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at Research Medical Center.

Ms. Hurst was born in Hot Springs, Ark., and lived in Lawton, Okla., before moving to this area eight years ago. She was a teacher at the Lakeview Woods State School for the past five years. She attended Texas Women`s University, Eastern Illinois University and Central Missouri State University. She held a master`s degree in physical education and a specialist degree in special education. She was a member of the Odessa Evangelical Free Church.

Her survivors include her mother, Billie Hurst, one brother, Anthony Hurst, both of Lawton, Okla.; one sister, Bobbye Aaron, Kempner, Texas; her maternal grandmother, Evelyn Perkins, Lawton, Okla.; and her extended family, Kathie, Clint, Joshua and Caleb Taggart, all of Higginsville.

Services were today at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial was in Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

JOSEPH W. "BILL" JONES

Retired Army Maj. Joseph William "Bill" Jones, 73, Independence, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at the Rosewood Care Center.

Mr. Jones was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Independence and was a lifelong Independence resident. He worked for the Future Farmers of America and the Department of Agriculture for 20 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence. He was very active in community theater, as well as Tiffany`s Attic and Waldo Astoria, received many awards for acting in movies and did many commercials. He was an Army veteran. His wife, Virginia Jones, died in 1997.

His survivors include a son, Dr. Scott Jones, and a daughter, Alexa Thompson, both of Kansas City; a brother, Alex Jones, Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Virginia L. Jones Early Childhood Development Endowment Fund, 8510 E. Bannister Road, Kansas City, Mo. 64134.

HAZEL A. KIRTLEY

Hazel Alice Nickell Kirtley of Kansas City, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at Bishop Spencer Place, Kansas City.

Mrs. Kirtley was born April 27, 1912, in Maude, Mo., and lived in Moberly, Mo., Independence and Santa Fe, N.M., before returning to this area in July. She was the Eastern Jackson County director of the American Lung Association, and later worked in the Kansas City office. She received a fine arts degree from the University of Missouri and was a violinist. She was a member of Delta Gamma, PEO, Independence Junior Service League, MU Phi Epsilon and Trinity Episcopal Church. She joined the staff of the Medical Center of Independence as its first volunteer coordinator. She was preceded in death by her husband, Judge John Marcus Kirtley in 1964.

Her survivors include three daughters, Karen Kirtley Stubbs, Kansas City, Mary Ellen Kirtley, Overland Park, Kan., and Marcia Alice Kirtley Brockmire, Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren, David Kirtley Stubbs, Laura Culbertson Stubbs, Julie Ann Stubbs Waldman, Timothy William Brockmire and Patricia Lee Brockmire; four great-grandchildren; and one niece.

Cremation with private burial. The family suggests contributions to Hospice Care of Mid-America, Penntower, Suite 300, 3100 Broadway, Kansas City, Mo. 64111-2406, or Bishop Spencer Place, 4301 Madison, Kansas City, Mo. 64111. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.

MARY B. MOORE

Mary Belle Moore, 79, St. Joseph, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at her home. Mrs. Moore was born Aug. 19, 1918, in Kansas City, and lived in Clay County for more than 41 years, moving to St. Joseph in 1994. She worked for the Postal Service for more than 30 years, including 10 years as postmaster in Missouri City, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Missouri City Baptist Church, andwas a graduate of Manchester Elementary School and East High School in Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Nelson R. Wait, Harry William Hendricks and Lynn G. Moore, and one son, Nelson Ray Wait Jr.

Her survivors include a son, Richard William Wait, Faucet, Mo.; two daughters, Mary Ellen Graves, Stockton, Mo., and Sharry Lynne Hadley, Camden Point, Mo.; two brothers, Merida Lee Haworth, Kansas City, and Harold Bert Haworth, Independence; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Missouri City cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gowing Funeral Home, Orrick, Mo.

BEULAH F. PIMBLOTT

Beulah Frances Pimblott, 91, Independence, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997.

Mrs. Pimblott was born in Blair, Neb., and had lived in the Independence area most of her life. She was a registered nurse at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital until she retired. She was a charter member of the South Crysler RLDS congregation, had been active in the camping program, was a Women`s leader and historian for the church. Her husband, James William Pimblott Jr., died in 1986.

Her survivors include a son, James W. Pimblott III, and two daughters, Jean F. Gossett and Cheryl K. Coffman, all of Independence; a brother, David Lytle, Long Beach, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Mary Ruth, Suzan, Ginger, J.D., Jennifer, Jeff and Jana; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

ONA F. BRICKEY

Ona Fay Brown Brickey, 64, Lone Jack, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at the home of her daughter in Greenwood, Mo.

Mrs. Brickey was born May 27, 1933, in Greenwood, Mo., and had lived in Lone Jack since 1950. She recently returned to Greenwood. She was a member of the World Wide Church of God in Kansas City. She played the guitar, and when she was younger, she and her twin played the mandolin, known as the Brown Twins, played locally at churches, schools and pie suppers. In their early teens they sang and played on KIMO in Independence, and later entertained on WHB on the Cowtown Jamboree. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Brickley II on March 14, 1986.

Her survivors include seven children, Shirleen Herrick, Windsor, Mo., Lanora Campbell, Springfield, Mo., Shannon Thomas, Danville, Ind., John S. Brickley III, Palmyra, Walter Brickley, Mounds, Okla., Marilyn Sturgeon, Greenwood, and Willis Keith Brickley, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; three brothers, Eugene Brown and Merle Keith Brown, both of Lone Jack, and Kenion R. Brown, Kingsville, Mo.; two sisters, Lanora McKay, Holden, Mo., and her twin sister, Nona May Van Os, Hannibal, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Burial will be in Brown cemetery, Oak Grove. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

GARLAND DILLON

Garland Dillon, 78, Pleasant Hill, Mo., died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital in Kansas City.

Mr. Dillon was born June 12, 1919, near Strasburg, Mo., and had lived in the Pleasant Hill and Strasburg areas most of his life. He was a well-known area stockman and a graduate of the old Strasburg High School. He was an elder and Sunday school teacher in the Strasburg Union Church, president of the Strasburg cemetery Association, and on the Cass County Zoning Commission.

His survivors include his wife, Marjorie E. McMillan Dillon of the home; a son, Larry Dillon, Oak Grove; a daughter, Judy Vanderpool, Blue Springs; a sister, Arlene Gandy, Independence; seven grandchildren;and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stanley &Son Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill. Burial will be in Strasburg cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral Home. The family suggests contributions to the Strasburg cemetery Association or the church.

TIMOTHY M. "TIM" MERSINO

Timothy "Tim" Michael Mersino, 56, Blue Springs, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Mersino was born Jan. 23, 1941, in Grosse Pointe, Mich. He was vice president of marketing and sales for Haldex Corp. for the past eight years. He was an Air Force veteran, and a member of the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church.

His survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mersino of the home; four daughters, Carol Diane Mersino, Debbie Sukanick and Shellie Forrestal, all of Blue Springs, Jennifer Long, Fenton, Mich.; his parents, Charles and Sylvia Mersino, Manton, Mich.; two brothers, David Mersino, Canton, Mich., and Raymond Mersino, Traverse City, Mich.; two sisters, Virginia Lilly, Grand Rapids, Mich. and Margarite Loyson, Rochester, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

Services were Sunday at the church. Graveside services were today in Blue Springs cemetery.

LANDIE L. OLIVER

Landie Lee Oliver, 38, Kansas City, died Oct. 25, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Oliver was born March 22, 1959, in Independence. He attended Fort Osage High School and was a Navy veteran.

His survivors include his parents, Orlando E. Oliver and Joan Casey Oliver of Woodridge, Ill.; one daughter, Miranda J. Oliver, Blue Springs;one sister, Vicki A. Workman, Blue Springs; one brother, Randie R. Oliver, Kansas City; his maternal grandparents, Mary Casey, Blue Springs, and Tom and Edie Casey, Independence; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Webb-Freer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery.Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

ELLA O. PAGE

Ella Opal Page, 93, Stockton, Mo., formerly of this area, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at the Stockton Nursing Home.

Mrs. Page was born Oct. 8, 1904, in Marceline, Mo., and lived in Brookings, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Richmond, Mo., before moving to Independence. She had lived in California before returning to Independence in the 1970s. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and the White Masque Players, serving in numerous offices, including production manager and president. She and her husband, W. Earl "Barney" Page, wrote and directed the 1935 Easter morning pageant at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, and continued to direct the pageant for nine more years. She participated in all church sponsored radio dramas on KMBC. She created puppets, and began using puppetry in worship and teaching, and also wrote and directed many presentations for puppetry. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Her survivors include one sister, Dora S. Cox, Stockton; one niece, Betty Morgansen, Bates City; two nephews, Jean E. Cox, Stockton, Mo., and Kenneth E. Williams, Kansas City; grandnieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home, Buckner. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center Hospice.

DONALD L.ADAMS

Donald L. Adams, 72, Independence, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Adams was born May 9, 1925, in St. Joseph, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of his life. He was a roofer for Quality Roofing Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Lutheran faith, and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, having received the EAME Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars and the Purple Heart. He was a Prisoner of War from Oct. 5, 1944, to May 1945.

His survivors include his wife, Dorothy I. Adams of the home; two sons, Donald W. Adams and Kevin Adams, both of Independence; three daughters, Brenda Burkhart, Westford, Mass., Donna Hoover, Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Diana Dickerson, Independence; two brothers, Edward Gill and Charles Gill, and a sister, Maxine Groves, all of Independence; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 711 Benton Blvd., Kansas City. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
