Shepp Josephine

Josephine Shepp, age 86, of Versailles, passed away Monday morning, January 20, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born June 24, 1916 in Camden County, the daughter of Albert M. and Ada M. Green Francis. She was united in marriage on May 14, 1937 to Ernest A. Shepp who preceded her in death on March 3, 1993. Mrs. Shepp worked for Winis Fashion’s in Versailles for many years, and was a seamstress and homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Versailles. She is survived by two sons, James Shepp of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Edward Shepp of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; one daughter Martha Ward of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mary McLennan of Versailles, Missouri, and Ruth Crane of California, Missouri; 8 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Gary Shepp; three brothers, Bert, Carl, and Dale Francis; and two sisters, Dorothy Cantwell and Margaret Zaneis. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 23, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Jim Kruse and Jim Randall officiating. Musical selection is “How Great Thou Art”. Burial will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers are Rodney Schad, Jim Miller, Glen White, Bill Crane, Mike Crane, and Warren Gerhart. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles.

Sherman Dave

Dave Sherman, age 67, of Laurie, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. He was born April 23, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Llewellyn and Mable Strader Sherman. He was united in marriage on June 16, 1962 with Myrna Aeschbacher, who survives of the home. Dave was co-owner of the Golf Cart Division of Sherman Millwork, member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, the Versailles Masonic Lodge #320 A.F. & A.M., and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was an avid golfer and member of the Rolling Hills Country Club near Versailles. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Mark Sherman and wife Melanie, of Laurie, and Scott Sherman of Kansas City; one granddaughter, Madisen Sherman; one sister, Darlene Jacoby of Holt; his mother-in-law, Ruth Aeschbacher of Laurie, several nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 20, at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie, with Rev. Jim Blue officiating. Interment will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Dave Sherman Memorial Fund for a Cardiac Chair at Boone Hospital Center or Ozark Chapel United Church Music Department. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Sherman, Myrna L.

Myrna L. Sherman, age 64, of Laurie, Missouri passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2005 in Laurie. She was born December 4, 1940 in Versailles, Missouri, the daughter of Herbert and Ruth Lehman Aeschbacher. On June 16, 1962 Myrna was united in marriage to Dave Sherman who preceded her in death on February 17, 2005. Myrna was a co-owner of Sherman Millwork and a member of the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, Mark Sherman and wife Melanie of Laurie, and Scott Sherman of Kansas City, one granddaughter, Madisen Sherman, her mother, Ruth Aeschbacher of Laurie, one sister Elaine Ernst and husband Don of Jefferson City, as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, October 23, 2005 at the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jim Blue officiating. Burial will be in the Garber Memorial Estates. Casketbearers are Don Ernst, Kirby Ernst, Jay Ernst, Milt Lehman, Tom Lehman and Don Lehman. The family will receive friends from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church music department or the Shriners Hospital in St. Louis Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Shore L. Stella

Stella L. Shore, age 86, of Versailles, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born on November 18, 1918, near Versailles, to Tony and Mary Woods Stringer. On May 16, 1936, she was married in Stover to Mancil E. Shore who preceded her in death on May 19, 1941. On January 14, 1945, in Versailles, she married Roy M. Shore, who survives of the home. Mrs. Shore graduated from Versailles High School in 1935. She worked at Tweedies in Jefferson City and later in Versailles. She worked for Barnes Jewelry Store and later for Davenport Jewelry in Versailles. Mrs. Shore made a profession of faith at an early age and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Versailles for about 75 years. She began teaching Sunday school in the children’s department when she was 16 and taught for about 60 years. She is survived by her one daughter, Ernestine Hardin of Lake Ozark; three grandchildren, Lora Klein and her husband Cloyce, Elaine “Lainie” Franklin of Lee’s Summit, and Rick Hardin of the state of Nevada; three great-grandchildren, Melissa Klein Marriott and her husband Ryan of Versailles, Matt Klein of Eldon, and Alisha Hardin of Sedalia; and one great-great-granddaughter, Joscelynn Marriott of Versailles. She was preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine Purvis, on July 4, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 14, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with the Reverend Todd Forman and Reverend Randy Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 13, from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Wayne Allen, Cloyce Klein, Matt Klein, Ryan Marriott, David Franklin and Bill Fields. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Allen, Rick Hardin, Wayne Hardin, Jack Smith, Clifford Pryor and David Merriott. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Versailles, or the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Shryack M. Ruth

Ruth M. Shryack, age 92, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Saturday morning, February 12, 2005 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born September 12, 1912 in Novelty, Missouri, the daughter of Holland I. and Anna Lee Sadler Griggs. On January 28, 1942 she married John M. Shryack, who preceded her in death in May of 1969. Mrs. Shryack graduated from Normal Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo. in 1937. She was a retired English teacher from school districts in Missouri and Michigan. She was a dedicated and distinguished member of D.A.C. George Hull Chapter since 1959, held many chapter and state level offices such as State Regent, First Vice Regent, and State Treasurer. She served as Worthy Matron of the Kirksville Chapter #184 Order of the Eastern Star, as District Deputy and held the State office of Grand Ruth. She was president of the Kirksville P.T.A., town chairman of P.T.A. and also served as district chairman. She was a member of the Truman State Golden Alumni Association, and was involved with projects at the School of the Ozarks and conservation projects such as the “Planet For Tomorrow” program in Missouri. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader of many books. Mrs. Shryack lived in Kirksville, Missouri before moving to Bella Vista, Arkansas and on to Sunrise Beach, Missouri in 1986. She is survived by one son, John Shryack of Versailles, Missouri; one brother William Griggs of Davis, California, many other relatives and friends. At her request her remains were cremated. Private inurnment will take place at a later date in Novelty, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Albers Belle Betty
October 11, 2003

Betty Belle Albers, age 86, of Versailles, passed away Saturday morning, October 11, 2003 at her home. She was born August 30, 1917 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Warren and Lucille Moore Boles. She married Orva Albers who preceded her in death on February 5, 1965. Mrs. Albers was a homemaker and member of the Methodist Church. She is survived by cousins, Pat & Larry Stephens of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and their daughters, Rachel Terrell of Paris, Tennessee, and Susan Stephens of Tuscan, Arizona; Jack Moore and Joe McArthur; brother-in-law Harold Albers and wife Ella Ruth of Boonville, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Jeanie Leeper officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Alexander Jane Betty
September 14, 2003

Betty Jane Alexander, age 83, of Versailles, passed away Sunday morning, September 14, 2003 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born April 12, 1920 in Orrville, Ohio, the daughter of Walter and Gail Harriet Steiner Stocksdale. She was united in marriage on February 24, 1946 in Orrville, Ohio with Lloyd Alexander Jr., who survives of the home. She graduated from Canton Business College and was a bookkeeper for Shearer Farm Equipment for 19 years in Ohio, and later worked at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was a member of Glensted United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #410 in Versailles. In addition to her husband she is survived by four daughters, Louise Marie Dudgeon of Fredericktown, Ohio, Linda Kay Prochazka of West Salem, Ohio, Lou Ann McCullough of Shreve, Ohio, and Lisa Joan Bias of Versailles; one brother, Irvin Stocksdale of Wooster, Ohio; nine grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Eastern Star Services were held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Bob Nichols officiating. Robert D. Ross sang “Nearer My God To Thee” and “Amazing Grace” accompanied at the organ by Virginia Ross. Interment was in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers were Gene Klein Sr., John Gerlt, Bill Brewer, Nathan Shelton, Mark Fields, and Tony Perryman, with David Turner serving as an honorary casketbearer. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Ayers Sue
September 1, 2003

Sue Ellen Ayers, age 64, of Gravois Mills, passed away Monday evening, September 1, 2003 at Ozark Care Center in Osage Beach. She was born March 28, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Virgil and Bernice Joyce Bradley. Mrs. Ayers was a retired dance instructor and choreographer. She lived in the Kansas City area most of her life before moving to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1995. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Ayers of the home; one daughter, Amie Ayers of Camdenton; one granddaughter, Kasey Katlyn Ayers of Camdenton, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, at Highland Park Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas. Burial will be in Paola, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, at Highland Park Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kidney Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Barrows Adell Fern
October 3, 2003

Fern Adell Barrows, age 101, of Versailles, passed away Friday afternoon, October 3, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born September 29, 1902 in Cambridge, Nebraska, the daughter of Joe and Nellie Clary Wayman. She was united in marriage on May 8, 1922 with Lyle J. Barrows, who preceded her in death on December 4, 1966. Mrs. Barrows was a retired Registered Nurse and homemaker. She was a member of Hopewell Union Church, member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #410 in Versailles, member of the Rebecca Lodge for 75 years, member of Miller Rebecca Lodge #324 in Eldon, the Fortuna Senior Citizens, Willing Workers Club, was a 4-H Leader and Extension Club member, and was Mrs. Liberty in the 4th of July Parade with Buffalo Bill in North Platte, Nebraska. She is survived by four grandchildren, Paula S. Campbell of Harvey, Lousiana, Linda C. Hotinger of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Jean Ann Turner of Gurnee, Illinois, and Gary Barrows of Williamsburg, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Turner, and Jennifer Campbell; a daughter-in-law, Sarah Hutchison Barrows Gares, of Versailles, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Eugene L. Barrows on February 3, 1978. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Jasper Hunter officiating. Hymns were sung by Rev. Robert D. Ross accompanied at the organ by Virginia Ross. Interment was in the Hopewell cemetery near Versailles. Casketbearers were Darrel Gunn, Jim Daniels, Jack Hutchison, Todd Wilhelm, Tom Daniels, and Gerald Yarnell. Honorary casketbearers were Grover Griffin, Glen Deffenbaugh, Ted Hitchcock and Harold Hildreth. Eastern Star Services were held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Bennett Earl
September 16, 2003

Earl Bennett, age 81, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Tuesday morning, September 16, 2003 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. He was born March 17, 1922 in Independence, Missouri, the son of Joseph A. and Carrie C. Ferguson Bennett. He was united in marriage on November 10, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas with Mary Evelyn Wilkerson. Mr. Bennett was retired from Trans World Airlines, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, member of the American Legion Zack Wheat Post #624 in Sunrise Beach, the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Bennett of the home; one brother, Carl Bennett of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Betty Newell of Sulfur Springs, Arkansas, and many friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 18, at the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie, with Father Fred Barnett officiating. Interment will be in the St. Patrick cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Bennett James
October 7, 2003

James M. Bennett, age 83, of Barnett, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 7, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. He was born June 7, 1920 in Independence, Missouri, the son of Thomas and Ode May Matlock Bennett. He was united in marriage to Marguerite Lorene Fellers on January 14, 1947. James known to all as “Papa Top Cat” worked in Independence as a heavy equipment operator until 1979. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, member of the V.F.W. Post in Independence and the RALDS Church of Independence. He is survived by his wife Marguerite Bennett of the home; two sons, J.D. Bennett of Independence, Missouri and Gary Hubert Walter of Barnett; two daughters Katherine McCoskey of Barnett, Karen Baldwin of Barnett; one step-brother Richard Matlock of Arizona; 10 grandchildren 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one step-brother Warren Bennett. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 10, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Bill Johnson officiating. Military honors & interment under the auspices of the V.F.W. Post #2442 of Eldon will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be the grandchildren and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Charles T. Bianco, age 49, of Gravois Mills, Missouri passed away Sunday morning, August 31, 2003 at his home in Gravois Mills. He was born March 7, 1954 in Salem, Massachusetts, the son of Louis and Rosita Mary Vasquez Bianco. He was a heavy equipment operator. He is survived by two sons, Charles T. Bianco Jr. and Louis Bianco of Gravois Mills, Missouri; two daughters Maria Mayo of Gravois Mills and Lisa Bianco of Salisbury, Massachusetts; one brother Mark Bianco of Salisbury, Massachusetts; one sister Mary McInnes of Hampton, New Hampshire; one grandson, Keenan, many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, September 4, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Cremation will follow. September 22, 2003

Haley Nadine Alta Bigley, age 6, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Monday evening, September 22, 2003 at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City from injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier that evening. She was born April 1, 1997 in Osage Beach, Missouri, daughter of Amy Amanda Bigley, who preceded her in death. Haley was a student at Hurricane Deck Elementary School. She is survived by one brother, Zane Cornell of Sunrise Beach; grandparents Beverly Green of Sunrise Beach, and Warner W. Bigley of Kansas City, MO; great-grandparents, Robert L. and Carolyn Angell of Gravois Mills, Rutherford & JoAnn Mills of Camdenton, and Thelma Bigley of Kansas City, MO; two uncles, Robby and Bobby Bigley of Sunrise Beach; one aunt, Deidra Bigley of Blue Springs; great-uncles Rocky, Bill and Bob Mills, and Charlie Boyert of Sunrise Beach; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Warner W. Bigley Sr., and Warren W. Boyert. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. Interment will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Haley Bigley Memorial Fund % Community Bank in Sunrise Beach. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Bridges Samuel James

James Samuel Bridges, Jr., 84, of Sunrise Beach, MO, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2003, at Lake Regional Hospital after a four-week illness. Jim was born September 22, 1919, in Kennett, Missouri, the son of James S. Bridges, Sr. and Rosie Johnson Bridges. Jim was united in marriage in 1954 with Phyllis Williams, and she preceded him in death earlier this year. He was also preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters. Jim was a retired supervisor for the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District and moved to Sunrise Beach upon his retirement in 1984. He served several years during World War II with the United States Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force, North Africa ETO. He was the recipient of numerous medals, including the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. He is survived by two sons, James S. Bridges, III, and Dennis Bridges, both of Patterson, California; two grandsons, James S. Bridges, IV, and Dennis Bridges, Jr., plus three great-grandchildren, all from California; his brother, Daniel W. Bridges, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; two sisters, Mary Ann Stockton of Kennett, Missouri, and Ophelia Ostrom of Seabrook, Maryland, plus many nieces and nephews. Jim was a very warm and caring person and leaves behind many friends and neighbors who, along with his family, will dearly miss his bright smile and hugs. A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening, October 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. Cremation will follow, with arrangements under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Chamberlain Pauline Goldia
October 16, 2003

Goldia Pauline Chamberlain, age 90, of Versailles, passed away Thursday morning, October 16, 2003 at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born September 2, 1913 in Eldon, Missouri, the daughter of Fred Lee and Sophia O. Sidebottom Hibdon. She was united in marriage on May 30, 1941 with Floyd Chamberlain, who preceded her in death on June 8, 1985. Mrs. Chamberlain taught school in a one room schoolhouse, later worked for North American Airlines in Kansas City and was a homemaker. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Berco of Versailles; one brother, Donald Lee Hibdon and wife Jean, of Jacksonville, Florida; one grandson, Aaron Berco of San Diego, California; two step granddaughters, Helen Hill of Eldon, and Marsha Kidwell of Barnett; three step great-granddaughters, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Gary Berco; her step daughter Zelma Lee Chamberlain Blanks and husband Leroy Blanks; two brothers, Curtis Hibdon and Winfred “Pete” Hibdon, one sister, Elta Grace Beatty, and one step grandson, Jimmy Blanks. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 20, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Barry Grider officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles.
