Cleo S. Cotten, age 92, of Raymore, formerly of Versailles, passed away Friday, November 7, 2003 at Raymore Health Center. She was born December 16, 1910 in Iberia, Missouri, daughter of William H. and Rosa M. Rook Shelton. She was united in marriage on November 11, 1936 to Thomas O. Cotten who preceded her in death on September 12, 1981. Mrs. Cotten was a homemaker and member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Raymore. She is survived by two sons, Don T. Cotten of Palm Springs, CA, and Neil S. Cotten and wife Jean, of Raymore; one granddaughter, Virginia L. Roney; two grandsons, Thomas C. Cotten and Steven L. Cotten; 10 great-grandchildren, 3 nephews, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother, James E. Shelton. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Vocal selections of “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” and “I’ll Fly Away” were sung. Interment was in Greenmore Memorial Gardens cemetery in Barnett. Casketbearers were Jim Brade, Tom Kruse, James Shelton, Robert Jones, Thomas Cotten and Steven Cotten. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Raymore. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles

Crosby-Sullivan Eileen
October 28, 2003

Eileen A. Sullivan-Crosby age 54, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at her home. She was born June 18, 1949 in Fremont, Nebraska, the daughter of Leroy and Ardys Fischer Hasenkamp. She was united in marriage to Clyde Sullivan who preceded her in death on June 22, 1995. She was later united in marriage to John Crosby. Eileen was a retired court reporter and legal secretary and member of the Peace Lutheran Church of Greenview. She is survived by her husband, John Crosby of the home; one daughter, Malia Nemecek and husband, Don of Scribner, Nebraska; one step-son, Brian Crosby and wife, Shannon of Springfield, Missouri; one step-daughter, Robin Crosby of Honolulu, Hawaii; parents, Leroy and Ardys Hasenkamp of Fremont, Nebraska; three brothers, Jerry Hasenkamp of Omaha, Nebraska, Roger Hasenkamp of Council Bluff, Iowa, Don Hasenkamp of Bode, Iowa; one grandchild, Makayla Nemecek, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 1, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie with Pastor Eugene Moll officiating. Interment will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Friday, October 31, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel of Laurie.

Mary Laura Davis, age 80, of the Ivy Bend Community, Stover, Missouri, passed away Wednesday morning, October 29, 2003 at her home. She was born October 24, 1923 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of John S. and Nannie L. McConnell Everman. She was united in marriage on August 24, 1939 with Thomas H. Davis, who preceded her in death on April 15, 1985. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and was raised a Baptist. She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Parmely and husband Steve, of Stover, and Genevieve Gibson and husband Delbert, of Kansas City, Kansas; one son, Tommy Ray Davis and wife Susie, of Clarksville, TN; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 step brother and 2 step sisters. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by 4 children. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 3, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Graveside services and inurnment will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, at Leavenworth National cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Engels William Joseph
September 7, 2003

Joseph Williams Engels, age 81, of Gravois Mills, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2003 at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City. He was born in Maspeth, New York on December 27, 1921, the son of Joseph and Dora Engels who preceded him in death. On November 22, 1964 he married Rose-Marie Andruss in Saratoga Springs, New York who survives of the home. Mr. Engels was a retired award winning photo journalist on one of New Yorks major newspapers, and later moved with his wife to Australia where he was pictorial editor and chief photographer for several Australian magazines. Returning to the United States he worked as national service specialist for a manufacturer of automated photo processing equipment. His last employment was head of maintenance for a large manufacturing plant in Illinois where he suffered a brain hemorrhage that ended his work career in 1982. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Joanne Kentoffio of Patchogue, New York, and Jane McQueen of Malverne, New York. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 11, 2003 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Versailles with Pastor Eri Rottman officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Versailles. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Evans P. Charles
September 26. 2003

Charles P. Evans, age 86, of Gravois Mills, passed away Friday evening, September 26, 2003 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach. He was born August 11, 1917 in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of William Henry and Nora Lewis Evens. He was united in marriage on August 13, 1974 to Marye Grayce Clark. Mr. Evans worked for Millwright Construction Local #102 of Detroit, Michigan. He is survived by his wife Marye Grayce Evans of the home; one son, Charles Henry Evans of Gravois Mills; three daughters, Joyce Snelling of Lake Orion, Michigan, Carolyn Graves of Pontiac, Michigan, and Charlene Beegle of Barnett, Missouri; two step-sons, Roger Snelling of Waterford, Michigan and Charles Snelling of Maryland; one step-daughter, Norma Hanks of Flint Michigan thirteen grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Perry Evans and a sister, Ruby Chamberlain. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 29, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie with Reverend Bill Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie. Farrelly Carol Diane

Diane Carol Farrelly, age 41, of Versailles, passed away Friday, October 10, 2003 at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born November 21, 1961 in Versailles, Missouri, the daughter of Helen Holder and Rashid Rashad. She is survived by her husband, Mark Farrelly of Marshall; one son, Gregory Johnson of Jefferson City; her mother, Helen Payne of Versailles, her father, Rashid Rashad of Jefferson City; one brother, Anthony Johnson of Jefferson City; one sister, Angela Whitiker of Cleveland, Ohio; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rashid Rashad officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Diane Farrelly Memorial Fund c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Gingerich Lee Sharon

Sharon Lee Gingerich, age 61, of Versailles, passed away Sunday evening, October 5, 2003 at her home. She was born July 26, 1942 in Rhode Island, the daughter of Clifford M. and Gladys Reid. She was united in marriage on October 11, 1963 with James Gingerich, who survives of the home. Mrs. Gingerich was a Medical Technician and member of Cornerstone Church of Versailles. In addition to her husband she is survived by one son, Robert William Crain of Osage Beach; one daughter, Deborah Lee Washburn and husband Daniel Raymond, of Versailles; one brother, Donald Reid of Lemoore, CA; three grandchildren, Ryan Lee Gingerich, Samantha Nicole Gingerich, and William Raymond Washburn; three great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 9, at Cornerstone Church of Versailles, with Pastor Dale Bentch officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion cemetery. Casketbearers will be Mike Carver, Daniel Raymond Washburn, Ryan Gingerich, Joe Merriott, William Crossen, Bruce Corbin, and Phil Hilty. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to Cornerstone Church of Versailles. Goodwin M. Mildred

Mildred M. Goodwin, age 82, of Laurie, passed away Monday morning, November 17, 2003 at the Laurie Care Center in Laurie. She was born August 17, 1921 in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Jasper and Alma Keller Coffey. She married William H. Goodwin who preceded her in death. Mrs. Goodwin was retired from Fasco Industries in Eldon, was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sedalia, and did volunteer work at Lake Regional Hospital, Laurie Care Center and for the Meals on Wheels Program. She is survived by three sons, William Goodwin of Gravois Mills, David Goodwin of Camdenton, and Stephen Goodwin of Sedalia; two brothers, Floyd Coffey of Marshall, and Louis Coffey of California State; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 21, at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, Kansas. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon cemetery in Atchison. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Hargett Fleetwood
October 20, 2003

Fleetwood M. Hargett, age 85, of Versailles, passed away Monday morning, October 20, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. He was born August 9, 1918 in Morgan County, Missouri, the son of Mallory Fleetwood and Emma Agnes Moore Hargett. He was united in marriage on September 6, 1947 with Josefene Carlene Stangler, who preceded him in death on February 4, 1998. Mr. Hargett was a retired sales representative, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles. He was an avid hunter and golfer, and member of the Rolling Hills Country Club near Versailles. He is survived by one son, Christopher S. Hargett of Jefferson City; one daughter, Carlene R. Hargett of Versailles; three grandchildren, John Hargett, Janet Thompson and Joel Hargett, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by four sisters, Grace Morris, Ida Ishmael, Marie Hunter and Francis Monroe. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23, at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles, with Rev. Father C.D. Ryan officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Parkinson Foundation or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Hatfield V. Ernie

Ernie V. Hatfield, age 60, of Versailles, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at the Laurie Care Center. He was born January 9, 1943 in Iberia, Missouri the son of Vincent L. and Phylis P. Woolery Hatfield. He was united in marriage to Jeanie A. Galle. Mr. Hatfield was a mechanic for Riley Chevrolet for 36 years, and a member of the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Laurie. He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Hatfield of the home; one son, Raymond G. Miller of Orlando, Florida; two daughters, Mary Lou Hatfield of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Patricia New of Okeechobee, Florida; three sisters, Dean Aldridge of Iberia, Missouri, Linda Sauter of Etterville, Missouri, Glenda Hatfield of Jefferson City, Missouri, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and grandson, Michael J. Miller. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 11, 2003 at the Shrine of Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie with Father Fred Barnett officiating. Military honors and interment will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery in Iberia, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to the Missouri River Hospice 3210 Bluff Creek Dr. Columbia, MO 65201. Arrangements are under the direction of the KIDWELL-GARBER FUNERAL HOME OF VERSAILLES.

Hayes John

John M. Hayes, age 81, of Tipton, passed away Wednesday morning, September 3, 2003 at Tipton Manor in Tipton. He was born November 4, 1921 in Morgan County, Missouri, the son of James Sidney and Effie L. Calton Hayes. He was united in marriage on October 2, 1943 with Zella Marie Finley, who preceded him in death on November 19, 1997. He worked at Gerbes Supermarket in Versailles and later owned Stop and Shop Market in Tipton. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Versailles, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and member of the Edgar Cole American Legion Post #304 in Tipton. He is survived by one son, John Michael Hayes and wife Susan, of Tipton; two grandchildren, Heather and Sarah, three great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by five brothers, Harley, Jess, Alva, James and Bill Hayes, and three sisters, Rosalie Richardson, Mollie Sidebottom and Roxie Willis. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Pastor Roy Bennett officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Delbert Hayes, Karl Hayes, Doug Fowler, Gary Buerky, Richard Mortenson and Jason Claggett. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Eva Marie (Purvis) Hibdon, age 90, of Laurie, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2003 at Laurie Care Center. She was born February 12, 1913 in Old Purvis, Missouri, the daughter of Ivy and Ora Hill Purvis. She was united in marriage on August 30, 1930 with William Robert “Bob” Hibdon, and celebrated their 72nd anniversary before his death on September 6, 2002. Eva was a homemaker who loved spending time with her husband, 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandsons. She was a charter member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie, and member of the Versailles O.E.S. Chapter 410. Survivors include 2 daughters, Carolyn M. Burks of Kansas City, MO, Sharon K. Washburn of Rogers, AR; a daughter-in-law Shirley B. Hibdon, Independence, Mo; two sisters, Nona Moore of Laurie, MO, and Rosemary Butts of Sunrise Beach, MO; sister-in-law Helen Purvis and brother-in-law Charles Butts, many other family members and friends. Eva was preceded in death by her parents and husband, son Robert J. “Bobby Jack” Hibdon; sons-in-law Clifford Burks and David Washburn, grandson Sammy Washburn; and brothers John and George Purvis. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie, with Rev. Fred Royer, Rev. Rick White and Steve Ronnekamp officiating. Hymns were sung by Steve Ronnekamp accompanied at the organ by Nelda Ronnekamp. Interment was in Ozark Chapel cemetery. Casketbearers were Scott Washburn, Mike Burks, Chris McDaniel, Willie Hibdon, Chris Meyer and Cory Burks. Memorial contributions are suggested to Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church or Ozark Chapel cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Hickerson Mae Elsie
October 22, 2003

Elsie Mae Hickerson, 69, of Camdenton, MO, passed away Wednesday morning, October 22, 2003, after a long and courageous battle against heart disease. Elsie was born January 7, 1934 in Caldwell, KS. She graduated from Blackwell High School in 1951. She received her B.A. degree from Wichita Business College and was a member of the Alpha Iota Sorority. She worked for Amortibanc Investment Company of Wichita, KS. She became a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in 1978. Elsie enjoyed playing Bridge and was the Coordinator of the Monday Bridge Club at the Sunrise Beach Community Center for over 25 years. She participated in many other Bridge Clubs throughout the Lake Area playing her favorite game with many friends. Elsie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Henry "Buzz" Hickerson, and two sons: Alan and his wife Kelly of Concord, CA, and their children, Scott and Bradley; and Aaron and his wife Eve of Sunrise Beach, MO, and their children, Austin, Michael and Carrie. She is also survived by her three brothers: Earnest Urban and his wife, Delores, of Rentin, WA; Edwin Urban and his wife Glenda, and Elbert Urban and his wife, Joyce, all of Blackwell, OK, many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at the KIDWELL-GARBER FUNERAL HOME 417 Silvey Road in Laurie, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie

Delbert Leo Hoskins, age 79, of Versailles, passed away Friday, September 12, 2003 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born February 26, 1924 in Morgan County, MO, the son of Joe S. and Jerusha Ellen Bailey Hoskins. He was united in marriage on October 30, 1952 with Wilma O. Dowell, who preceded him in death on December 26, 1981. To this union one son was born. On October 19, 1985 he married Alma Dowell, who survives of the home. Delbert worked at the M.F.A. in Tipton for several years and later owned and operated a service station in Fortuna for many years. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Versailles. In addition to his wife Alma, he is survived by his son, Bennie Hoskins and wife Brenda, of Conyers, GA; one sister, Ruth Marriott of Versailles; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Almon Hoskins, and three sisters, Dica Harley, Gladys Bellamy and Alma Strothers. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 15, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Gary Petty officiating. Interment will be in the Hopewell cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Assembly of God Church in Versailles. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
