November 3, 2003

Rosa June Howard, age 78, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday morning, November 3, 2003 at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia. She was born April 21, 1925 in Dadeville, Alabama, the daughter of William Grover and Annie Belle Jones Sharpe. She was united in marriage on November 17, 1953 in Phoenix City, Alabama with Gather J. Howard. Mrs. Howard was a retired registered diet therapist for the Civil Service and a member of the Assembly of God Church in Tuscumbia. She is survived by her husband, Gather J. Howard of the home; four sons, Jesse Frank Howard of Farmington, MO, Jackie Charles Howard of Virginia Beach, VA, David Ray Howard of Atlanta, GA, and Grover Lynn Howard of Jefferson City, MO; two daughters, Gloria Faye Beveridge of Jefferson City, MO, and Sondra Schwehn of Grand Island, NE; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, James Freddie Howard, one granddaughter, Lorrie Ann Beveridge, 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Pastor Larry Albertson officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles.

Hunter Carrol William
October 31, 2003

William Carrol Hunter, age 84, of Versailles, passed away Friday, October 31, 2003 at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia. He was born December 24, 1918 in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Walter and Lettica Grace Scott Hunter. He was united in marriage on February 5, 1947 in Columbia, Missouri with Martha M. McCall. He received a degree in Agriculture from the University of Missouri in Columbia. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II he served overseas in the 351st Battalion and received a purple heart. Bill worked in construction and farm related fields. He was a member of the Gravois Mills Lions Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Gravois Mills. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and in recent years just watching the wildlife in the large valley near their home on Seals Road. His favorite activities were attending auctions and visiting with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Martha Hunter of the home; one son, Ed Hunter and wife Kathy, of Excelsior Springs, MO; three daughters, Margie Ruder and husband Tom, of Wichita, KS, Jane Napier and husband Ron, of Tipton, and Becky Callaghan and husband Marty, of Versailles; fourteen grandchildren, Danny and Bobby Haggerman, Clint Napier and wife Shannon, Christy Roming and husband Josh, Amanda Garrison and husband Jeremy, Grant and Kari Hunter, Carolyn, Jeremiah, Marie, Michael, and Mahala Callaghan, Jorie and Jason Ruder; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell H., Hughes L, Marcelle and Walter J. Hunter, and two sisters, Ruth J. and Bertha M. Hunter. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with John Wagner officiating. Military honors by the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Program and interment were in the Oak Grove cemetery near Versailles. Casketbearers were Jason Ruder, Grant Hunter, Jeremy Garrison, Jeremiah Callaghan, Clint Napier and Bob Haggerman.

Jordan Claudine Dolores
November 16, 2003

Dolores Claudine Jordan, age 76, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Sunday evening, November 16, 2003 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. She was born September 19, 1927 in Harden, Missouri, the daughter of Claude Richard and Nina Evylin Woodin Freeman. She was united in marriage on April 6, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri with Jesse Alvin Jordan, who preceded her in death on June 17, 1988. Mrs. Jordan worked for the Social Security Administration in Kansas City for several years. She is survived by one son, Richard L. Jordan of Topeka, Kansas; one daughter, Deborah Lynn Parson of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jason Ryan Parson, Tanna ReAnne Parson, and Shanna Renee Parson, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie, with Rev. Rick White officiating. Interment will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Lefert Nichole May
November 5, 2003

May Nichole Leffert, daughter of Michael and Carin Dredge Leffert, of Versailles, was stillborn Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Capitol Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She is survived by her parents, Michael and Carin Leffert of the home; paternal grandparents, Kevin and Pat Green; maternal grandparents, Steve and Barbara Linville; great grandparents, Bill and Sandra Hill, Larry and Barb Linville, Richard and LaVaughn Dredge, Deanna Platt, and Oscar Leffert;; great-great-grandparents Marjorie Linville, Dorothy Dredge and Eudora Margaret Hill; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by great and great-great-grandparents Alta Marie Lininger, Stanley Milton Lininger, William Martin Hill, Jack Linville, Harlan Dredge, Everett Leroy Green, Eleanor Leffert, and Marshall and Francis Ford. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles cemetery. Interment followed, with arrangements under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles

Leffert May Eleanor

Eleanor May Leffert, age 72, of Versailles, passed away Thursday morning, October 16, 2003 at St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born October 24, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Michael Augustus and Matilda Marie Folger Rantz. She was united in marriage on June 17, 1953 with Oscar H. Leffert, who survives of the home. Mrs. Leffert was a homemaker, and had worked for Southwestern Bell and Montgomery Ward. She was a member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles, and was active in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for several years. In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Kenneth Leffert and wife Joyce, of Versailles, and William Leffert and wife Vickie, of Tipton; one daughter, Patricia Green and husband Kevin, of Versailles; one brother, Robert Rantz of Connecticut; ten grandchildren, one great-grandson, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles, with Father C.D. “Bo” Ryan officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Lehman I. Hazel

Hazel I. Lehman, age 89, of Cole Camp, Missouri passed away Thursday evening, September 18, 2003 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Cole Camp. She was born August 17, 1914 in Breckenridge, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Anna Harper Madden. She was united in marriage on October 2, 1932 to Dana Lehman who preceded her in death on March 8, 1977. Mrs. Lehman and her husband farmed in Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri. She is survived by two sons, Richard Lehman and wife, Kelly of Cole Camp, Missouri, Robert Lehman and wife, Barbara of Carl Junction, Missouri; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 21, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Philip Hilty officiating. Graveside services and Interment will be at 3:00 P.M. Monday, September 22, 2003 at the Reno cemetery in Cumberland, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to Benton County Hospice. Arrangement are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Lesher "Bernie" Charles

Charles Bernard “Bernie” Lesher, age 67, of Gravois Mills, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2003 at the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics in Columbia. He was born February 15, 1936 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of John Joseph and Stella Marie Marcott Lesher. He graduated from Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas. He was retired from General Motors and worked in Kansas City and St. Louis. After moving to the Lake of the Ozarks he was active in various local organizations and the Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his companion, Neelie Lyman of Versailles; one daughter, Heidi Magana of Lenexa, KS; one son, Timothy M. Lesher of Norton, KS; one brother, Paul Lesher of Kansas City, KS; three sisters, Bettye Jackson of Tulsa, OK, Mary Catherine Keller of Acworth, GA, and Marjorie Looney of Chickasha, OK; 4 grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie, and from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 12, at Maple Hill Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Maple Hill cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Litwiller Anna Mary
October 5, 2003

Mary Anna Benner Litwiller was born on December 1, 1924 to Jonathan and Ellen Mae Temple Benner at Quakertown, Pennsylvania. She peacefully passed away on October 5, 2003 at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles, Missouri, at the age of 78 years. She spent her childhood in Pennsylvania until she moved with her parents to Ithaca, Michigan in 1940 when she was 15 years old. Here she was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. To those vows she remained faithful. On December 15, 1946 mother was united in marriage to Laurence Litwiller, sharing life’s joys and sorrows for 51 years until our fathers passing. God blessed their home with 7 sons and 1 daughter. In September of 1974 our parents moved from Michigan to Versailles, Missouri. Our memories of Mother are of her modest ways and she was always polite and considerate of others. Mother was a caring person with a sweet disposition, whose faith and trust in God was an encouragement to us. She carried a concern for her family and at times we would find her in earnest prayer. Mother was ready to ask forgiveness when she failed. She loved to sing and especially enjoyed songs of Heaven. Those cherishing precious memories are seven sons: Terence & wife Wanda, Wilmore, Kansas; Rodney & wife Lois, Linden & wife Linette, and Mark & wife Rachel, all of Versailles, Missouri; Roger & wife Barb, and Dennis, Ithaca, Michigan; Martin & wife Arlene, Newbern, Alabama; one daughter, Kathleen & husband Doug Wesenberg, Ithaca, Michigan; twenty-three grandchildren; three brothers, John & wife Anita Benner, Manheim, Pennsylvania; David & wife Ruth Benner, St. Johns, Michigan; Dick & wife Sundy, Atmore, Alabama; two sisters, Esther & husband Isaiah Wilson, St. Johns, Michigan; and Sarah & husband Robert Litwiller, Ithaca, Michigan; and two sisters-in-law, Maxine Benner, Middleton, Michigan, and Dorothy Benner, Newbern, Alabama. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, three brothers, one sister, and one sister-in-law. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, at Beulah Mennonite Church near Versailles, with Ministers Melvin Koehn, Ron Hauder and Stanton Unruh officiating. Interment was in the Beulah Mennonite cemetery. Casketbearers were Terry Litwiller, Rodney Litwiller, Roger Litwiller, Linden Litwiller, Martin Litwiller and Mark Litwiller. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Longstreet McIntyre Genevieve
September 3, 2003

Genevieve McIntyre Longstreet, age 72, of Stover, passed away Wednesday evening, September 3, 2003 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach. She was born September 1, 1931 in Miami County, Kansas, the daughter of Opal McCoy. She was a labor for Certain T Roofing. She was a member of the Lake View Baptist Church and loved playing bingo. She is survived by one daughter; Barbara Reeds and husband, Robert of Ivy Bend; two grandchildren Sara McIntyre and Nicole Reeds; one nephew Harvey Moore and wife, Carrol of Liberty, Missouri many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Ellen May Grapes. Memorial Service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 6, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral home in Versailles. Mrs. Longstreet was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Mallory M. John
September 3, 2003

John M. Mallory, age 92, of Gravois Mills, passed away Wednesday evening, September 3, 2003 at his home. He was born July 31, 1911 in Hardin, Missouri, the son of James T. and Kitty E. Mallory. He was united in marriage on September 2, 1950 to Sibyl Barrett. Mr. Mallory worked for the Kansas City Police Department. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Legion Zack Wheat Post #624 of Sunrise Beach. He is survived by his wife, Sibyl Mallory of the home; one son, John Richard Mallory of Gravois Mills; one daughter Deborah L. Mallory of Olathe, Kansas; two step-sons, Robert Robinson of Drexel, Missouri and Bruce Robinson of Blue Springs, Missouri; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, September 6, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie with Pastor Polly Ellis officiating. Military Honors and Interment under the auspices of the American Legion Zack Wheat Post #624 of Sunrise Beach will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Saturday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Marshall Dean John
September 26, 2003

John Dean Marshall, age 59, of Versailles, passed away Friday afternoon, September 26, 2003 in California. He was born December 12, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Bert E. and Versalean A. West Marshall. He was united in marriage on August 10, 1974 to Sheila Anne Green, who survives of the home. He worked at Cargill Inc. in California, and had worked at Williams Lumber in Versailles for over 30 years. He was an avid sports fan and especially the Kansas City Chiefs. In addition to his wife Sheila he is survived by three sons, Kenneth Wayne Marshall and wife Leah, of St. Peters, MO, Barry Lee Marshall of Versailles, and Christopher Heath Marshall of the home; three daughters, Dina Gail Berendzen and husband Pat, of Richmond, MO, Lori Gay Caldwell of Blue Springs, MO, and Crystal Dawn Marshall of the home; three brothers, Robert Marshall and wife Donna, of Versailles, Glenn Marshall and wife Kathern, of Gravois Mills, and Larry Marshall and wife Linda, of Versailles; two sisters, Joyce Gordan of Kansas City, MO, and Rita Pratt and husband Bill, of Warsaw; 8 grandchildren; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Joyce Green of Scottsdale, Arizona, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 29, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Jim Randall officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Versailles Booster Club.

Mathis Ray Jessie

Jessie Ray Mathis, age 53, of Stover, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at his home. He was born January 20, 1950 in Leavenworth, Kansas, the son of LeRoy and Naomi Minney Mathis. He was united in marriage on April 1, 1977 with Ann Durham, who survives of the home. He was a service station manager for Highway Oil Company in Topeka, Kansas. In addition to his wife he is survived by four sons, Jessie Ray Mathis II, Rory Gene Mathis and Ronald Eugene Mathis, all of Leavenworth, KS, and Christopher Wayne Mathis of Stover; one daughter, Tina Renee Schultz of Stover; three brothers, Leroy Mathis, Dick Mathis and Lawrence Mathis, all of Leavenworth, KS; one sister, Judy Schmidt of Sunrise Beach, 11 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ethel Jones and Irene Holmes. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Gideon’s International. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

McCarty "Fern" Vivian

Vivian “Fern” McCarty, age 84, of Versailles passed away Wednesday morning, September 17, 2003 at her home where she resided with her daughter, Debi and grandchildren, Tim and David. She was born September 20, 1918 in Ellis, Kansas, the daughter of Melvin and Zora Helms Kilgore. She was united in marriage on June 13, 1939 in Salina, Kansas to Edwin Lyman McCarty who preceded her in death on May 25, 1993. Fern was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Versailles. She is survived by two daughters, Debi Carpenter of Versailles, Sandra Ann Mischke and husband, Chuck of Worland, Wyoming; three sons, Edwin McCarty Jr. and wife, Vicky of Charleston, Indiana, Max Melvin McCarty and wife Dee of Norwalk, California, David Brian McCarty and wife, Tina of Rialto, California; one sister, Violet Pierce of Georgia; thirteen grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother Jiggs Kilgore. Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Bill Johnson officiating. Musical selections are “Face to Face” and “Amazing Grace” sang by Max and Dee McCarty. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Eddie McCarty, Max McCarty David McCarty, Chuck Mischke, Rick Davis, Kenny Carpenter, Tim Carpenter, and David Carpenter. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Mary F. McLennan, age 84, of Versailles, passed away Tuesday evening, October 7, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born April 1, 1919 in Camden County, the daughter of Albert and Ada Green Francis. She was united in marriage on May 18, 1940 to James McLennan who preceded her in death on December 19, 1994. Mrs. McLennan was a homemaker, member of the Versailles Christian Church and the O.E.S. Chapter 410 of Versailles. She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Moore and husband, Forrest of Grand Lake, Colorado; one sister, Ruth Crane of California, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jeff Moore and wife, Valarie and children Natacia, and Juan Carlos; Jamie Cripps and husband, Lou. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bert, Dale and Carl Francis; and three sisters Dorothy Cantwell, Margaret Zaneis, and Josephine Shepp. Funeral services will be at 2:30 P.M. Friday, October 10, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Jim Kruse and Jim Randall officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The nephews will serve as casketbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 Friday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association Mid-Missouri Chapter 1121 Business Loop 70 East Columbia, Missouri 65201. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
