September 5, 2003

Allen Lee Mefford, age 53, of Versailles, passed away Friday, September 5, 2003 in a vehicle accident near Windsor, Missouri. He was born February 12, 1950 in Windsor, Missouri, the son of Lee and Lucille Parrack Mefford of Windsor. On June 20, 1975 he was united in marriage to Janice Mefford, who survives of the home. Mr. Mefford was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Versailles. He was a graduate of Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. Mr. Mefford was a co-owner of L.A. Products and was currently employed at Missouri Department of Corrections in Jefferson City. He had previously worked for Stride Rite Shoe Factory and International Shoe Factory. He is survived by five sons, Dennis Mefford of Versailles; Wesley Mefford of Fortuna, Jody Fergerson of Versailles, Paul Fergerson of Versailles, Robert Fergerson of Cole Camp and their wives; one brother Robert Mefford of Windsor; two sisters, Sharon Mefford and Patty Mefford of Windsor; nine grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at the United Pentecostal Church in Versailles with Reverend Gerald Hamlett officiating. Musical selections were sang by sister Mary Hamlett and brother Dan Sinclair. Interment was in the Inman Memorial cemetery near Cole Camp, Missouri. Casketbearers were David Brown, Darrell Brown, Bob Brown, James Brown, Kenneth Brown, Jerry Palmer, David Mefford, Phillip Mefford, Tommy Mefford, Dwayne Siercks, and Linwood Carman. The family received friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the United Pentecostal Church in Versailles. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Mitchell Janice
September 2, 2003

Janice Kelley Mitchell, age 65, of Versailles, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born August 19, 1938 in Richville, Minnesota, the daughter of Ray and Norma Zuehlesdorff Fredricks. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 18 and worked for Kansas City Power & Light Company until she retired and moved to the lake where she loved to fish. She is survived by her husband, William Mitchell of Versailles; and two sisters, Lenora Kimber of Long Prairie, Minnesota, and Kay Benman, of Versailles. She was loved by her many friends and her family, and will be greatly missed. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 5, at the Chapman cemetery near Versailles, with Pastor Landon (Cap) Chapman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Mooney C. Francis
September 12, 2003

Francis C. Mooney, age 88, of the Golden Beach Community, Barnett, passed away Friday, September 12, 2003 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. He was born January 29, 1915 in Walnut, Kansas, the son of Cortez Lee and Bessie Alice Price Mooney. He was united in marriage on March 23, 1946 with Ruth A. Eakins, who survives of the home. Mr. Mooney was a fabrication foreman and retired from Charles Air Force Base, South Carolina. He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II and served on seven campaigns. He was a member of Golden Beach Community Church, 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Terry Mooney of Barnett, MO; one daughter, Alice M. Hudson of Savannah, GA; one sister, Dortha Bridgewater of Corpus Christi, TX; nine grandchildren and six great-granddaughters. Memorial Funeral and Masonic Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, at the Golden Beach Community Church near Barnett, with Rev. Dub Scott-Inlow and the Eldon Masonic Lodge officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Golden Beach Community Church or to the Lake Regional Hospital Cancer Fund. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Moore Schell Sally
September 23, 2003

Sally S. Schell Moore, age 55, of Gravois Mills, peacefully left this world on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri. She was born March 30, 1948 in Jefferson City the daughter of Clifford L and Mildred M. Burnett Schell. She was united in marriage on April 8, 1971 in Jefferson City to Preston L. Moore who survives at the home. She was a 1966 graduate of Jefferson City High School. After graduation she worked for the Division of Insurance for several years and then as a homemaker. Other survivors include a son, Preston L. Moore II of Jefferson City; one daughter, Lindsay K. Rush of Jefferson City; two sisters, Linda L. Slattery, of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Marilyn L. Schell of Jefferson City; one grandson, Cole Lucas Rush of Jefferson City and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 27, 2003 at the KIDWELL-GARBER FUNERAL HOME in Laurie with Reverend Larry Ollison officiating. Interment will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie. Memorials are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the KIDWELL-GARBER FUNERAL HOME of Laurie.

Nikkel James "Abe" James

Abraham James “Abe” Nikkel, 66, of Versailles, died Sunday, October 26, 2003 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born June 7, 1937 in Goessel, Kansas, the son of Jacob P. and Eva Marie E. Unrau Nikkel. He graduated from Goessel High School and attended Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas. On October 1, 1960 he married Kathryn Marie Hilty at Fortuna, Missouri, who survives of the home. Abe was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, Fortuna, where he was active in various aspects of the church and community life for the past 30 years. He worked as a builder, farmer, dairyman, and truck driver throughout his professional life. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Julie Goering and her husband, Russell, Hutchinson, Kansas; a son, James P. Nikkel of Newton, Kansas; two granddaughters, Anna and Maggie Goering; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine and Elmer Voth, Newton, Kansas, Doris and Menno Schmidt, Hutchinson, Kansas, Arzella and Mel Dirksen, Denver, Colorado; Orletta and John Goering, Gresham, Oregon, and Joyce and Ken Christopher, Olathe, Kansas; nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Alice Rebecca. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 30, at Bethel Mennonite Church, with Rev. Tom Voth officiating. Interment will be in the Bethel cemetery. Casketbearers will be Vincil Aeschbacher, Daniel Baumgartner, Ronald Baumgartner, Bill Byers, Rodney Yoder and Eric Guhr. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Bethel Mennonite Church Elevator Fund or the Palliative Care Fund, KU Medical Center. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles, Missouri.

Penn Perry Sr.

Perry R. Penn Sr. age 82, of Barnett, Missouri passed away Sunday, November 9, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. He was born July 15, 1921 in Pocahontas, Arkansas. He was united in marriage to Valere Beaman. Mr. Penn owned Penn’s Floor Maintenance in Rolla. He is survived by his wife, Valere Penn of Versailles; five sons, Perry R. Penn Jr. of Jefferson City, MO, Frank R. Penn of Atlanta, GA, Howard L. Penn of Evansville, IN, Danny Joe Penn of Rolla, MO, and Terry M. Penn of Rolla, MO; one daughter, Rosemary Penn VanArkle of Hopewell, VA; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at Golden Beach Community Church Barnett, Missouri with Reverend Dub Scott-Inlow officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Perry R. Penn Sr. memorial fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Robert Gary "Bob" Washburn
September 20, 2003

Robert Gary “Bob” Washburn, age 48 of Gravois Mills, passed away Saturday morning, September 20, 2003 in Versailles, Missouri. He was born July 27, 1955 in Laurie, Missouri, the son of Mary Anne Wittrock Henry and Ralph Washburn Jr. Bob owned and operated Washburn Real Estate for ten years and owned Washburn Bail Bonds in Versailles. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Pipes and daughter, Chelsea Pearl Washburn both of the home; mother, Mary Anne Wittrock Henry of Daytona Beach, Florida; one sister, Lisa Kelly of Daytona Beach, Florida; two brothers-in-law, Earl Wayne Pipes and family, David Pipes and family; four nephews, Scott and Joe Collins, Earl and Cody Pipes, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Ralph W. Washburn Jr. and maternal grandparents, Herman and Mary Ellen Wittrock. Memorial services will be from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Sauerwein Joyce
September 5, 2003

Joyce J. Sauerwein, age 73, of Stover, passed away Friday, September 5, 2003 at St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born July 29, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Gus and Margaret Drinning Eckenfels. She married Richard Sauerwein who preceded her in death. Mrs. Sauerwein enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and loved her dog “Pepper”. She is survived by two sons, Gary Hollandsworth and William Hollandsworth of Stover; three daughters, Brenda Hollandsworth and Rhonda Bailey of Potosi, MO and Connie Miller, of Stover; three brothers, August Eckenfels of Stover, Carl Angel of Gerald, MO, and Bobby Eckenfels of Hannibal, MO; three sisters, Barbara Eckenfels, Dorothy Quick, and LaVerne Cole, all of St. Louis, MO; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. There are no services planned. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Schad Broox Nora
November 5, 2003

Nora Broox Schad, age 21, of Holts Summit, passed away Wednesday morning, November 5, 2003 in Jefferson City from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born January 20, 1982 in Columbia, Missouri, the daughter of Avery Kent and Rosella Lorine Knipp Schad. She graduated from Jefferson City High School in 2000 and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia for two years, and was a member of the MU Marching Band Color Guard both years. She was presently a student at The Institute of Beauty and Wellness in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Jefferson City. Survivors include her parents, Avery Kent and Rosella Lorine Schad of the home; two sisters, Martha Rosa Schad of Troy, New York, and Brianne Elizabeth Schad of the home; one brother, Dane Avery Schad of Columbia; paternal grandmother, Virginia Schad of Barnett; maternal grandparents, Harold and Carmelita Knipp of Tipton; her God parents, Barbara Meyer and Vincent Knipp; several aunts, uncles, cousins, great aunts and uncles; great-great aunt Nora Embry of Tipton; great-great uncle Louis Wolf and wife Anna Wolf of Conyers, Georgia, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Johnnie Schad, a cousin Brian Schad, and a uncle Ronald Knipp. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Jefferson City, with Father Donald W. Lammers officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell cemetery near Barnett. Pallbearers will be Jeff Scheidt, Travis Schad, Derek Ranabargar, Kevin Rollins, Tim Evans, Jake Shellabarger, Eric Hollabaugh, and Joe Carr. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Slater-Millard Funeral Home in Holts Summit, where the Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials to St. Peters Grade School Renovation Fund in Jefferson City, or the Jefferson City Public Schools Foundation, Performing Arts Center in Jefferson City. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Sharp Clayton Robert
October 30, 2003

Robert Clayton Sharp, age 50, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Thursday morning, October 30, 2003 at his home. He was born August 24, 1953 in Harrison County, Missouri, the son of Kenneth Sharp and Beverly Jenkins. He was united in marriage on January 6, 1983 with Cheryl Moon, who survives of the home. Robert was a self-employed automobile salesman. In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Dustin Sharp and his companion Sam, of Tucson, Arizona; his father, Kenneth Sharp of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his mother, Beverly Jenkins of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother, Craig Sharp and wife Jeanette of Loveland, Colorado; two sisters, Sherry Walters and husband Jim, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Kelly Hooper of Bellefontaine, Ohio; two grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Bart Larson officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Graveside services and interment will be Tuesday afternoon, November 4, in Park Grove cemetery in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Robert Sharp Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Sidbottom Robert Coy
September 28, 2003

Coy Robert Sidebottom, age 78, of Versailles, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2003 at his home. He was born July 24, 1925 at Gravois Mills, Missouri, the son of Willis and Mary J. McGinnis Sidebottom Mr. Sidebottom was a lifelong resident of Morgan County. He is survived by one sister, Wilda McCasland of Gravois Mills, and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Otis Sidebottom and Melvin Sidebottom of Kansas City, MO, and Milburn Sidebottom of Versailles; two sisters, Della Turpin and Dessie Inman of Versailles. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Dan Sinclair officiating. Vocal selections of “Amazing Grace” and “When Mama Sang” by George Jones were played. Interment was in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers were Ronnie Smith, Speed Branch Sr., Larry McCasland, Danny Hayes, Melvin Sidebottom and Speed Branch Jr. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Silvey Leland

Leland O. Silvey, age 91, of Versailles, passed away Monday morning, September 15, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born August 18, 1912 in Camden County, Missouri, the daughter of Edward and Laura Braden Christian. She was united in marriage on August 29, 1931 with Marion A. Silvey who preceded her in death on April 3, 1976. Mrs. Silvey was a housewife and homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church near Versailles. She is survived by two sons, Edward Silvey of Jefferson City, and Ray Silvey of Parkville; one daughter, Gladys Silvey of Versailles; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, James A. Silvey on August 3, 2003, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 grandchild. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 18, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. William Johnson officiating. Beth Conway will sing “Because He Lives” and “Lord I’m Coming Home” accompanied at the organ by Debbie Hayworth. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Richard Conway, Dan Roye, David Silvey, Ed Silvey, Timothy Brown, Blake Hayworth and Ray Silvey. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Diabetes Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Deanna Lea Smith, age 60, of Versailles, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 30, 2003 near Gravois Mills. She was born December 29, 1942 in Duncan, Oklahoma, the daughter of Alexander and Loeta Williams May. She was united in marriage to Scott Smith in 1987. Mrs. Smith worked at Millstone Lodge Boutique near Laurie. She is survived her husband Scott Smith of the home; one daughter, Kimberlee Olesen of Gravois Mills; one son, Mark Sherard of Seattle, Washington; her father and mother, Alexander and Loeta May of Versailles; one brother Larry May of Spring Branch, Texas and two grandchildren, Corey and Taylor, many other relatives and friends. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 6, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie. In Lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 7730 Carondelet Suite 135 St. Louis, Missouri 63105. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Virgil Dene Stauffer, age 5 months, of Versailles, passed away Saturday morning, October 4, 2003 at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia. He was born April 16, 2003 at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of Reuben and Elizabeth L. Weaver Stauffer. He is survived by his parents, Reuben and Elizabeth Stauffer of the home; one brother, Christopher Stauffer of the home; paternal grandparents Alvin and Lizzie Stauffer, of New Holland, PA; maternal grandparents Noah and Edna Weaver, of Versailles, MO; paternal great-grandparents, Anna Stauffer of New Holland, PA, and Martin Zeiset of Narvon, PA; maternal great-grandparents Elizabeth Weaver of Fleetwood, PA, and Lydia Leid of Kutztown, PA; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, at Versailles Mennonite Church near Versailles, with Bishop Ray Weaver, Pastor Leroy Martin and Pastor Joel Martin officiating. Interment was in the Springhill Mennonite cemetery near Latham. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
