PAUL SAMUEL & MELVA FLORENCE GERBER

Paul Samuel Gerber, age 74, and his wife, Melva Florence Gerber, age 72, of Versailles, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 12, 2004 near Barnett from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Paul was born November 14, 1929 near Versailles, the son of Ira L. and Bertha Moser Gerber. Melva was born December 15, 1931 at Versailles, the daughter of Clyde and Leona Bass. They were married on February 17, 1950 in Harrisonville, Arkansas. Paul and Melva owned and operated Versailles Commercial Printing for many years, and were active members of Bethel Mennonite Church near Versailles. They are survived by four children, Kay Gerber of Windsor, Marlene Baker and husband Wayne, Ken Gerber and wife Dora, and Debbie McCollom and husband David, all of Versailles; grandchildren, Dana Brandon Boatman, Mandy McCollom, Misty, Shawn and Jennifer Gerber, Wendy Rush and Shawn Rush, Christy and Garry Hufton; great-grandchildren Aidan Gerber, Colton, Kaitlyn and Allie Hufton; Paul’s sister, Louise Henderson of Versailles, many other relatives and friends. In addition to their parents they were preceded in death by Paul’s sisters, Ruth Gerlt and Clarice Lehman, and Melva’s sister Helen Bass. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 15, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Parker "Duddy" Lewis

Lewis R. "Duddy" Parker, 84, Sunrise Beach, died Feb. 18, 2003, at his home. He was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Kansas City, a son of Roy G. Sr. and Mary Fannie Wright Parker. He was married to Kathleen R. Wild. He was married to Margaret Estella Thompson, who preceded him in death. He was retired from the City of Kansas City. Survivors include: two daughters, Ellen Goodwin, Sunrise Beach, and Judith Maddox, Buena Park, Calif.; one brother, Carl Parker, Independence; three sisters, Trisha Turner and Gladys Wiggins, both of Independence, and Berneice Thornton, Park, Ark.; and eight grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery, Laurie. Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.

Palmer J. Dorothy

Dorothy J. Palmer, age 82, of Versailles, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 17, 2005 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born December 25, 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of James L. and Ada Echols Knight. She was united in marriage on June 27, 1954 in Atlanta, Georgia with Curtis James Palmer, who preceded her in death on April 2, 1991. Mrs. Palmer was a bookkeeper for Banner & Sons Elevator in Barnett, and former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by three sons, Robert Simmons of Albuquerque, New Mexico, David Palmer of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Terry Purdue of Florida; three grandchildren, Kerry Jeanette Fink, Randy Simmons and Lisa Simmons, and one great-granddaughter, Isabella Jeanette Fink. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 22, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

O'Hearn William James

James William O’Hearn, age 74, of Gravois Mills, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2005 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. He was born July 26, 1930 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Merville E. and Esther M. Birkemo O’Hearn. He married Betty Jean Hathorn who preceded him in death on March 31, 2005. Mr. O’Hearn was a retired civil engineer for Armco Steel. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, member of the Zack Wheat American Legion Post #624 in Sunrise Beach, member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Osage Community Elks Lodge #2705 of Laurie, and member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He is survived by two sons, Richard O’Hearn of Kansas City, and Allan O’Hearn of Sugar Creek; one daughter, Vicky Mennenga of Thomasboro, Illinois; three stepsons, John Hathorn of Sunrise Beach, Ed Hathorn of Laurie, and Alan Hathorn of Marshall; two sisters, Peggy Wilnsoth of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Muriel McKenzie, of Wichita, Kansas; eight grandchildren, one step grandchild, and one great-grandchild. Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Osage Community Elks Lodge in Laurie. Entombment will be at a later date in Garber Memorial Estates Columbarium in Laurie. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Osage Community Elks. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

O'Hearn Jean Betty

Betty Jean O’Hearn, age 73, of Gravois Mills, passed away Thursday morning, March 31, 2005 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. She was born November 25, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Gus M. and Mary Alice Duff Kramer. Mrs. O’Hearn was a retired secretary for Armco Steel in Kansas City, and member of the Osage Community Lady Elks Lodge #2705 in Laurie. She is survived by her husband, Jim O’Hearn of the home; two sons, Ed O’Hearn and John Hathorn of Laurie; two stepsons, Allan O’Hearn and Richard O’Hearn of Kansas City; one stepdaughter, Vicky Mennenga of Champagne, Illinois; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Alan Hathorn. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. The family suggests memorials to the Osage Community Elks Lodge #2705 in Laurie. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Oberjerge Marie Nadine

Nadine Marie Oberjuerge, 79, of Gravois Mills, MO, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2003, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was born April 8, 1923, in Jefferson City, MO, the daughter of Gus F. and Carrie H. Meister Kline. She was united in marriage on October 3, 1942, in Jefferson City, MO, with Homer K. Oberjuerge. Nadine was raised in Jefferson City, MO, and graduated from high school in 1941. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Greenview, was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, the Twin Island Fishing Club, the AARP, Laurie Care Center, Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging, the Lake Bloomers Garden Club, Morgan County CMAAA, the Gravois Fire District Auxiliary, Lake of the Ozarks Yachting Association, Lake West Chamber of Commerce, the Lady Lakers Red Hat Society, Sunrise Beach Little Theatre, the Morgan and Camden County Habitats for Humanity, the Morgan and Camden County Historical Societies, the Jefferson City High School Alumni Association in Jefferson City, MO. She served as president of the Laurie Care Center/Knolls Guild, a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Missouri Area on Aging, chairman and service officer for the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, member of the Board of Directors for the Morgan County CMAAA and president of the West Lake Newcomers Club. Nadine worked as a secretary at the U.S. Division of Fish and Wildlife in Jefferson City, MO, then moved to Kansas City in 1946 and spent the next 33 years with the U.S. General Accounting Office, before retiring and moving to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1979. In 1995, Nadine was the Chamber of Commerce’s national “Outstanding Volunteer,” and in 1999 she received Blue Cross Blue Shield’s “Best Friend” award as the outstanding volunteer in Missouri. In 2001 she received the Lake West Chamber’s Eagle Award for volunteerism and was the Grand Marshall of the Christmas Parade. In the July/August 2002 addition of the Lake of the Ozarks area Ageless Times she said, “I love being involved and helping people. It keeps me feeling alive.” She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Homer Oberjuerge of the home; her brother-in-law, Don Oberjuerge and wife, Carolyn, of Kansas City, MO; four nieces, and a host of friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Clifford Kline. Services were at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 9, 2003 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Greenview, Missouri with Pastor Robin D. Fish officiating. Burial was in the Peace Lutheran cemetery in Greenview. Casketbearers were Don Wilson, Sam Wilson, Brad Wilson, Dr. William Cole, Don Schmidt, and Greg Corday. Arrangments were under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Mack Ruth Opal

Opal Ruth Mack, age 87, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Sunday morning, July 3, 2005 at the Laurie Care Center. She was born February 18, 1918 at Freeburg, Missouri, the daughter of Martin Luther and Eleanor Hulda Clarkson Bailey. She was united in marriage on February 21, 1942 with James L. Mack Sr., who preceded her in death on August 18, 2002. Mrs. Mack retired from the accounting department for Southwestern Bell where she worked for about 25 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sunrise Beach, a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and member of the Woodman of the World. She is survived by one son, James L. Mack Jr. and wife Pat, of Sunrise Beach; one daughter, Eleanor E. Fadling and husband Warren, of Aurora, Colorado; one brother, Arnold Bailey of St. Peters, Missouri; two sisters, Dorothy Ortmann of Creve Coeur, Missouri, and Jean Allen of San Francisco, California; two grandchildren, Jim Mack III, and Chris Fadling. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at the Ortmann-Stipanovich Funeral Home in Creve Coeur. Interment was in the Fee Fee cemetery in Bridgeton. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Maddox Fay Lewis

Lewis Fay Maddox, age 81, of Gravois Mills, passed away Friday morning, October 22, 2004 at his home. He was born July 20, 1923 at St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Elton Fay and Emma Margaret Young Maddox. He was united in marriage on October 11, 1947 in Maysville, Missouri with Peggy Lou Brown. Mr. Maddox was a machinist and worked for Union Machine and Tool in Kansas City for 15 years prior to retiring in 1974. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Marines, member of the V.F.W. Post 5158, the Gravois Volunteer Fire Department, Gravois Fire Protection District Firefighters Association and the Missouri Sheriffs Association. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Lou Maddox of the home; three sons, Garry W. Maddox and wife Lisa, of Kearney, William (Bill) Maddox and wife Sherri, of Parkville, and Terry D. Maddox and wife Joy, of Gravois Mills; one sister, Merryl Hensley of Lakewood, Colorado; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Burl Slates and Burton Slates, and one sister, Margaret Mundorff. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. William Johnson officiating. Robert Ross will sing “How Great Thou Art” accompanied at the organ by Virginia Ross, and the Vince Gill recording of “Go Rest High On That Mountain” was played. Interment will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie, with military honors under the auspices of the Zack Wheat American Legion Post #624 of Sunrise Beach. Casketbearers will be Andy Maddox, Luke Maddox, Travis Maddox, Christopher Rumker, Valeri Rumker and Heath Maddox. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Gravois Fire Protection District Firefighter Association Memorial. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Mallory M. John
September 3, 2003

John M. Mallory, age 92, of Gravois Mills, passed away Wednesday evening, September 3, 2003 at his home. He was born July 31, 1911 in Hardin, Missouri, the son of James T. and Kitty E. Mallory. He was united in marriage on September 2, 1950 to Sibyl Barrett. Mr. Mallory worked for the Kansas City Police Department. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Legion Zack Wheat Post #624 of Sunrise Beach. He is survived by his wife, Sibyl Mallory of the home; one son, John Richard Mallory of Gravois Mills; one daughter Deborah L. Mallory of Olathe, Kansas; two step-sons, Robert Robinson of Drexel, Missouri and Bruce Robinson of Blue Springs, Missouri; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, September 6, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie with Pastor Polly Ellis officiating. Military Honors and Interment under the auspices of the American Legion Zack Wheat Post #624 of Sunrise Beach will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Saturday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Marriott Isaac Clyde

Clyde Isaac Marriott, age 87, of Versailles, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2003 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born October 24, 1915 in Morgan County, the son of Quincey and Mandy Bowers Marriott. He was united in marriage on March 6, 1948 to Norma Jean Chamberlain. Mr. Marriott was a carpenter and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Versailles and the American Legion Post #104 of Versailles. He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Marriott of the home; two sons, Clyde Marriott Jr. and wife, Vicke of St Charles, Missouri, and James Q. Marriott of Versailles; one sister, Janey Murphy of Panama City, Florida; and one grandson, Dallas Wade Marriott, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bert and Henry Marriott and three sisters Virginia Marriott, Audrey Taylor, and Alice Marriott. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Versailles with Reverend Todd Forman officiating. Military Honors and Interment under the auspices of the American Legion Post #104 of Versailles will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church and the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Marriott, Carl J.

Carl J. Marriott, age 76, of Versailles, passed away Friday, August 26, 2005 at the Laurie Care Center. He was born November 19, 1928 in Versailles, Missouri, the son of Carl Elmer and Beulah O. Crafton Marriott. He was united in marriage on May 10, 1951 in Hannibal, Missouri with Mildred L. James. Carl retired from General Motors in Kansas City after 30 years of service. He was a member of the United Auto Workers. He is survived by his wife, Mildred J. Marriott of the home; one daughter, Kay Drury of Gravois Mills; one granddaughter, Morgan Marriott; four grandsons, Jason Marriott, James Ray Drury, Shannon Drury and Wesley Drury; five great-granddaughters, Cheyanne and Stormie Drury, Page, Stormi and Karma Marriott; three great-grandsons, Tyson and Alex Drury, and Skyler Marriott, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, James Edwin Marriott of August 26, 2004, two brothers, Walter M. Marriott and Donald Lee Marriott, and two sisters, EvaDean V. Adams and Daphine Marriott. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Danny Owsley officiating. Robert Ross will sing “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”, a vocal recording of “Daddy’s Hands” by Holly Dunn will be played. Interment will be in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Brody, Eddie, Danny and Randy James, and Byron and Rob Marriott. Honorary casketbearers will be Fred, Kenny Don and Jason Marriott, Pete Jones, James Ray, Shannon and Wesley Drury. Marsh L. Joseph

Joseph L. Marsh, age 83, of Versailles, passed away Friday evening, April 1, 2005 at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis. He was born August 29, 1921 at King City, Missouri, the son of Daniel Robert and Elta Olivia Henry Marsh. He married Mildred Peoples who preceded him in death. Joe worked at Kansas City Bifocal in Versailles for several years, and worked in law enforcement for the Morgan County Sheriffs Department and the Versailles Police Department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Versailles, the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine. He is survived by two daughters, Verna Jo Gollnick of Denicia, California, and Davida Middleton of Waterloo, Illinois; two brothers, Bob Eppard and Jack Eppard, both of Texas; five grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Eppard. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Vocal recordings of “Word Of God Speak”, “I Can Only Imagine”, “I’ll Fly Away” and “To Where You Are” were played. Burial will be in the Ritchie cemetery near Versailles. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Marshall Blain Kathryn

Kathryn Blain Marshall, age 63, of Gravois Mills, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born October 4, 1941 at Amoret, Missouri, a daughter of the late Norman and Irene Newsam Carlson. She was united in marriage on October 8, 1991 with Glenn Marshall, who survives of the home. She is also survived by one daughter, Debra Henning of Kingman, Kansas; two sons, Ronald Edwards of Orlando, Florida, and Jerry Atkins of Kansas City; one sister, Maribelle Love of Kansas City; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 4, at the Mulberry cemetery in Amoret, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles

John Dean Marshall, age 59, of Versailles, passed away Friday afternoon, September 26, 2003 in California. He was born December 12, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Bert E. and Versalean A. West Marshall. He was united in marriage on August 10, 1974 to Sheila Anne Green, who survives of the home. He worked at Cargill Inc. in California, and had worked at Williams Lumber in Versailles for over 30 years. He was an avid sports fan and especially the Kansas City Chiefs. In addition to his wife Sheila he is survived by three sons, Kenneth Wayne Marshall and wife Leah, of St. Peters, MO, Barry Lee Marshall of Versailles, and Christopher Heath Marshall of the home; three daughters, Dina Gail Berendzen and husband Pat, of Richmond, MO, Lori Gay Caldwell of Blue Springs, MO, and Crystal Dawn Marshall of the home; three brothers, Robert Marshall and wife Donna, of Versailles, Glenn Marshall and wife Kathern, of Gravois Mills, and Larry Marshall and wife Linda, of Versailles; two sisters, Joyce Gordan of Kansas City, MO, and Rita Pratt and husband Bill, of Warsaw; 8 grandchildren; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Joyce Green of Scottsdale, Arizona, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 29, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Jim Randall officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Versailles Booster Club.
