Martha L. Blanks, age 70, of Gravois Mills, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia. She was born September 12, 1933, in Wheatland, Missouri, the daughter of Tom and Fannie Hollman Kain. She was united in marriage on May 25, 1952, with Norman Blanks who survives of the home. She was employed at Mid Way Laundry in Eldon. Martha is survived by four sons, Butch Blanks of Panama City, Florida, Billy Blanks, J.T. Blanks, and Roy Lee Blanks all of Gravois Mills; four daughters, Loretta Armstrong of Versailles, Luchier Crawford of Gravois Mills, Mary Fay Dial of Eldon, and Raylene Boles of Stover; one brother, David Kain of Warsaw; one sister, Ruby Box of Wheatland; twenty-five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, August 28, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with the Reverend Dinzel Webb officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Freedom cemetery near Versailles. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Marvin Jean Wilma

Wilma Jean Marvin, 55, of Versailles, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born May 14, 1947, in Larned, Kan., a daughter of Richard and Sarah Mohr Fagen. In 1965 she was married to Charles Massingill, who died in 1966. Mrs. Marvin was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Jean Massingill of Versailles; two sons, Charles Massingill and John Marvin, both of Versailles; two sisters, Connie Roberson and Donna Roberson, both of Kansas; and two grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Fagen. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles.

Mason, Shirley Clifton

Shirley Clifton Mason, age 58, of Jonesburg, Missouri, passed away Thursday morning, October 27, 2005 at Jonesburg Nursing and Rehabilitation in Jonesburg. She was born April 6, 1947 in Sac City, Iowa, the daughter of Clifton Guy and Iris Dorothy Duitsman Mason. She is survived by three daughters, Dawn Stein of Sullivan, MO, Wendy Kiethline of St. Peter, MO, and Melaine Barrillier of St. Charles, MO; three sisters, Kathleen Pion of Alberton, N.C., Sheri Price of Forest City, N.C., and Connie Eaton of Cleveland, TN; her step father, Elmo McConnell Forest City, N.C.; six grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Iris D. McDonnell, one daughter Veronica Fay Stein, and one brother Michael Howard McConnell. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles cemetery, with inurnment following. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Mason, Virginia (Ginny) Ellen

Virginia Ellen (Ginny) Mason, age 84, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2005 at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia. She was born October 26, 1921 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, the daughter of William Palmer and Della Eugene Duncan Shelton. She was united in marriage on June 11, 1947 with William Lewis Mason, who preceded her in death on May 28, 1985. Mrs. Mason was a homemaker and retired bookkeeper for Page Marina near Gravois Mills. She was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and member of Gravois Mills United Methodist Church. She is survived by one son, Bill Mason and wife Sharon, of Versailles; one brother, Merritt Shelton of Pittsburg, MO; two sisters, Kathleen Nolker of Excelsior Springs, and Connie Braun of Kansas City, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Ginny Lynn May, three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be at – November -, 2005 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Graveside services will be at – November -, at Floral Hill cemetery in Raytown, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Mastin Estell Virginia

Virginia Estell Mastin, age 80, of Versailles, passed away Friday morning, October 1, 2004, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born June 1, 1924, in Branson, Missouri, the daughter of Marion and Hazel Henrietta Cathel Cox. Her step-father, George Brady, also played a very important role her life and the life of her children. She was united in marriage on March 7, 1946, to Franklin Henry Mastin, who preceded her in death on February 23, 1998. Virginia taught school in Gravois Mills for several years. She and her husband also owned and operated Gladstone Cove Resort until the late 1980’s. She is survived by two daughters, Saundra Shirley of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Sherry Mastin of New Bloomfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, Angela Bax of New Bloomfield, Erin Manuel of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jennifer DiStefano of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Chris Shirley of Gravois Mills, and Lynne Bias of Versailles; fifteen great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 4, 2004, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Garber Memorial Estates in Laurie. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1121 Business Loop 70 East, Columbia, Missouri 65201. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie.

Mathis Ray Jessie

Jessie Ray Mathis, age 53, of Stover, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at his home. He was born January 20, 1950 in Leavenworth, Kansas, the son of LeRoy and Naomi Minney Mathis. He was united in marriage on April 1, 1977 with Ann Durham, who survives of the home. He was a service station manager for Highway Oil Company in Topeka, Kansas. In addition to his wife he is survived by four sons, Jessie Ray Mathis II, Rory Gene Mathis and Ronald Eugene Mathis, all of Leavenworth, KS, and Christopher Wayne Mathis of Stover; one daughter, Tina Renee Schultz of Stover; three brothers, Leroy Mathis, Dick Mathis and Lawrence Mathis, all of Leavenworth, KS; one sister, Judy Schmidt of Sunrise Beach, 11 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ethel Jones and Irene Holmes. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Gideon’s International. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

McCarty "Fern" Vivian

Vivian “Fern” McCarty, age 84, of Versailles passed away Wednesday morning, September 17, 2003 at her home where she resided with her daughter, Debi and grandchildren, Tim and David. She was born September 20, 1918 in Ellis, Kansas, the daughter of Melvin and Zora Helms Kilgore. She was united in marriage on June 13, 1939 in Salina, Kansas to Edwin Lyman McCarty who preceded her in death on May 25, 1993. Fern was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Versailles. She is survived by two daughters, Debi Carpenter of Versailles, Sandra Ann Mischke and husband, Chuck of Worland, Wyoming; three sons, Edwin McCarty Jr. and wife, Vicky of Charleston, Indiana, Max Melvin McCarty and wife Dee of Norwalk, California, David Brian McCarty and wife, Tina of Rialto, California; one sister, Violet Pierce of Georgia; thirteen grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother Jiggs Kilgore. Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Bill Johnson officiating. Musical selections are “Face to Face” and “Amazing Grace” sang by Max and Dee McCarty. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Eddie McCarty, Max McCarty David McCarty, Chuck Mischke, Rick Davis, Kenny Carpenter, Tim Carpenter, and David Carpenter. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. McCaslin C. William

William Cedric McCaslin, age 97, of Gravois Mills, passed away Tuesday morning, September 28, 2004 at his home. He was born August 21, 1907 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Lewis Walker and Rachael Ann Stevenson McCaslin. He was united in marriage in 1933 to Audrey Agnes Grey who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Emily Gibbs of 27 years. Mr. McCaslin started work for Douglas Products and Packaging in 1949 and began to purchase the business in 1958 and prior to his death played an active roll in the business with his son Jerry McCaslin. He was a 50 year member of the Kansas City Club, 50 year member of the Ararat Shrine Temple, member of the Royal Order of Jesters CT #54, past president of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and a member of the Liberty Christian Church. Survivors include William’s wife Emily McCaslin of the home; son Jerry McCaslin and wife Patricia of Liberty, Missouri; two step-sons, Roger Wilson and wife Pat of Columbia, Missouri, Andy Wilson of Columbia, Missouri; two grandchildren Jill Samuelson of Liberty, Missouri and Marc McCaslin of Liberty, Missouri; three great grandchildren, three-step grandchildren, and one nephew, Jim Sigg, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by on e sister Muirel Randall. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 30, 2004 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie with father Fred Barnett officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home. A second service will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday October 4, 2004 at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty, Missouri with Reverend Loyd Gentry officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel. Burial will be in the Glenridge cemetery in Liberty, Missouri. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Ararat Temple Wings of Mercy 5100 Ararat Drive, Kansas City, Missouri 64129. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

McCulloch W. Opal

Opal W. McCulloch, age 63, of Versailles, passed away Tuesday morning, January 14, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born October 6, 1939 in Stilwell, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jess and Cora Scott Clinton. She was united in marriage on October 26, 1963 with James R. McCulloch. Mrs. McCulloch was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, James R. McCulloch of the home; three sons, Edward McCulloch of Versailles, James A. McCulloch of Kansas City, and Robert W. McCulloch of Independence; one daughter, Sheryl D. Clinton of Kansas City; one brother, Floyd Tuell of Oak Grove; three sisters, Annabell Blevins of Tulsa, OK, Imogene Clark of Independence, and Ella Mae Phillips of Belton; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 18, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Leslie Howard officiating. Burial will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Brad Bunell, Buster Coppage, Kevin Christman, George Cochran, Ronnie Soriano, and Jeremy Hart. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Arrangements are under the care and direciton of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

McLennan Mary
October 7, 2003

Mary F. McLennan, age 84, of Versailles, passed away Tuesday evening, October 7, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born April 1, 1919 in Camden County, the daughter of Albert and Ada Green Francis. She was united in marriage on May 18, 1940 to James McLennan who preceded her in death on December 19, 1994. Mrs. McLennan was a homemaker, member of the Versailles Christian Church and the O.E.S. Chapter 410 of Versailles. She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Moore and husband, Forrest of Grand Lake, Colorado; one sister, Ruth Crane of California, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jeff Moore and wife, Valarie and children Natacia, and Juan Carlos; Jamie Cripps and husband, Lou. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bert, Dale and Carl Francis; and three sisters Dorothy Cantwell, Margaret Zaneis, and Josephine Shepp. Funeral services will be at 2:30 P.M. Friday, October 10, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Jim Kruse and Jim Randall officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The nephews will serve as casketbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 Friday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association Mid-Missouri Chapter 1121 Business Loop 70 East Columbia, Missouri 65201. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

McShane, Peggy G.

Peggy G. McShane, age 75, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Wednesday evening, November 2, 2005 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. She was born March 20, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Perry William and Genevieve Edmonds Shrader. She was united in marriage on January 27, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri, with John F. McShane, who survives of the home. Mrs. McShane was a retired clerk for W.T. Grant and a homemaker. She was a member of the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie. In addition to her husband she is survived by four sons, Michael McShane of Indianapolis, Indiana, Charles McShane of Tampa, Florida, Timothy McShane of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Daniel McShane of Anderson, Indiana; four daughters, Catherine Blackwell and Mary Randolph of Pendleton, Indiana, Patricia Shelton of Sunrise Beach, and Jean Jones of Tampa, Florida; one sister, Patricia Kennard of Kansas City, 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Memorial Funeral Mass was held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, at the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie, with Father David Buescher officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the St. Patrick cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Mefford Lee Allen

Allen Lee Mefford, age 53, of Versailles, passed away Friday, September 5, 2003 in a vehicle accident near Windsor, Missouri. He was born February 12, 1950 in Windsor, Missouri, the son of Lee and Lucille Parrack Mefford of Windsor. On June 20, 1975 he was united in marriage to Janice Mefford, who survives of the home. Mr. Mefford was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Versailles. He was a graduate of Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. Mr. Mefford was a co-owner of L.A. Products and was currently employed at Missouri Department of Corrections in Jefferson City. He had previously worked for Stride Rite Shoe Factory and International Shoe Factory. He is survived by five sons, Dennis Mefford of Versailles; Wesley Mefford of Fortuna, Jody Fergerson of Versailles, Paul Fergerson of Versailles, Robert Fergerson of Cole Camp and their wives; one brother Robert Mefford of Windsor; two sisters, Sharon Mefford and Patty Mefford of Windsor; nine grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at the United Pentecostal Church in Versailles with Reverend Gerald Hamlett officiating. Musical selections were sang by sister Mary Hamlett and brother Dan Sinclair. Interment was in the Inman Memorial cemetery near Cole Camp, Missouri. Casketbearers were David Brown, Darrell Brown, Bob Brown, James Brown, Kenneth Brown, Jerry Palmer, David Mefford, Phillip Mefford, Tommy Mefford, Dwayne Siercks, and Linwood Carman. The family received friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the United Pentecostal Church in Versailles. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Meyer, Florence I.

Florence I. Meyer, age 96, of Versailles, passed away Friday morning, December 23, 2005 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born August 14, 1909 in Morgan County, Missouri, the daughter of George August William and Mary Ellen Silvey Meyer. She served as Morgan County Clerk for 50 years, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Versailles, and taught Sunday school at the nursing home in Versailles for many years. Survivors include her caregiver and niece, Judy Krattli and husband Dak, of Gravois Mills, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and relatives. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Ray, Roy, Harry, Willie, Jewel, Dorsey and Malcolm Meyer, and seven sisters, Belva Jones, Cora Raines, Goldie Raines, Etta Love, Dorothy Ellen Meyer, Stella Meyer and Gracie Meyer. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Dr. Todd Forman officiating. Interment was in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers were Corky Daniels, Mike Jones, Jerry Meyer, Alan Meyer, Robert Meyer and Conway Jones. Honorary casketbearers were Kenny Pepper, G.W. “Dub” Meyer, Richard Meyer, Bobbie Raines and Donald Raines. Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church in Versailles. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Miller "Mike" Herman

Herman “Mike” Miller, age 79, of Gravois Mills, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. He was born August 21, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Herman A. and Wilma Yancey Miller. He was united in marriage on October 24, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri with Betty Jean Savage, who survives of the home. Mike was a foreman for the Marley Company in Olathe, Kansas, and later owned and operated Mike’s Lawn Service in the lake area until his retirement a couple of years ago. He was a member of the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge #446 in Kansas City, and formerly the Osage Community Elks Lodge #2705 in Laurie and the Gravois Mills Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Larry Miller of Bowling Green; one daughter, Donna Wilson of Independence; two grandchildren, Brian Miller and Angela Opie, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 21, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie, with Rev. Nick Stutesman officiating. Interment will be in Garber Memorial Estates in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Miller David William

William David Miller, 90, of Gravois Mills, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at the Lake Regional Health System facility in Osage Beach. He was born July 30, 1912, in Winslow, Ark., a son of Oda S. and Hattie Pearl Guinn Miller. On May 29, 1940, in Kansas City, he was married to Mattie Lee Williams, who survives of the home. Mr. Miller worked at General Motors Leeds Plant in Kansas City for several years and later was co-owner of Miller Brothers Sinclair Service Station in Northeast Kansas City. He owned and operated Miller's Shady Rest Resort near Laurie for about 12 years until his retirement. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5178 in Gravois Mills. He was a member of the Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Northeast Sheffield Masonic Lodge in Kansas City. He was an avid fisherman, carpenter and mechanic, and loved the Lake of the Ozarks. Survivors also include a brother, Charles "Chuck" Miller of Versailles; five sisters, Kathleen Williams and Lilah Riddle, both of Lancaster, Calif., Pearl Patten of St. Croix, Wis., and Gloria Coats and Nita McMann, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Howard Miller, and three sisters, Ona Bess Lee, Marilyn Sandbrook and Sylvia Powell. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with the Rev. Jim Lawley officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan, Tim, Ken and Ben Boone, Bill, Jim and Bob Miller and Jeff Rhoades. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Al Reub, Karl Englund, Ron Thomas, Lim Liddle and P.A. Ford. Masonic services will be at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, followed by visitation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.
