Miller, Joseph A.

Joseph A. Miller, age 74, of Gravois Mills, passed away Monday morning, December 12, 2005 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. He was born September 15, 1931 at St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Jack J. and Lucille Mica Miller. He was united in marriage on April 10, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri, with JoAnn A. Brand, who preceded him in death on June 8, 1998. He is survived by two sons, David Miller and Terry Miller of Gravois Mills; two daughters, Patty Burkhart and Tracy Richards, of St. Augustine, Florida; 9 grandchildren,1 great-grandson, many other relatives and friends. Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, at the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie, with Father Fred Barnett and Father Dave Buescher as celebrants. Entombment will be at a later date in Garber Memorial Estates Columbarium in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Mitchell Janice
September 2, 2003

Janice Kelley Mitchell, age 65, of Versailles, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born August 19, 1938 in Richville, Minnesota, the daughter of Ray and Norma Zuehlesdorff Fredricks. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 18 and worked for Kansas City Power & Light Company until she retired and moved to the lake where she loved to fish. She is survived by her husband, William Mitchell of Versailles; and two sisters, Lenora Kimber of Long Prairie, Minnesota, and Kay Benman, of Versailles. She was loved by her many friends and her family, and will be greatly missed. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 5, at the Chapman cemetery near Versailles, with Pastor Landon (Cap) Chapman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Mooney C. Francis
September 12, 2003

Francis C. Mooney, age 88, of the Golden Beach Community, Barnett, passed away Friday, September 12, 2003 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. He was born January 29, 1915 in Walnut, Kansas, the son of Cortez Lee and Bessie Alice Price Mooney. He was united in marriage on March 23, 1946 with Ruth A. Eakins, who survives of the home. Mr. Mooney was a fabrication foreman and retired from Charles Air Force Base, South Carolina. He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II and served on seven campaigns. He was a member of Golden Beach Community Church, 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Terry Mooney of Barnett, MO; one daughter, Alice M. Hudson of Savannah, GA; one sister, Dortha Bridgewater of Corpus Christi, TX; nine grandchildren and six great-granddaughters. Memorial Funeral and Masonic Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, at the Golden Beach Community Church near Barnett, with Rev. Dub Scott-Inlow and the Eldon Masonic Lodge officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Golden Beach Community Church or to the Lake Regional Hospital Cancer Fund. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Moore D. Ruth

Ruth D. Moore, age 83, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, passed away Friday afternoon, February 7, 2003 at the Laurie Care Center in Laurie. She was born January 1, 1920 in Rincon, New Mexico, the daughter of Donlee R. and Blanch A. Buster Cushman. Mrs. Moore retired as a secretary from Kansas City Association for the Blind. She loved animals and ceramics and owned Diana’s Ceramics. She is survived by three daughters, Karen Brown and husband, Ronald of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Diana Drain and husband, Patrick of Adkins, Texas and Karol Chessor of Springfield, Missouri; one son, Jim Davis of Yorba Linda, California; 18 grandchildren 40 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, many other relatives and friends. Her body was donated to the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, Missouri. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel of Laurie.

Moore Leslie

Leslie Thomas Moore, age 95, of Laurie, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at the Laurie Care Center in Laurie, Missouri. He was born May 25, 1907 in Carver, Missouri on Lake Road 135-3, the son of William B. and Adella Sutton Moore. In 1931 he was united in marriage to Nona Purvis who resides in Laurie, Missouri. Mr. Moore was a life long resident of Morgan and Camden Counties, and retired from Moore’s Lumber in Laurie which he owned and operated from 1951 to 1991. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving on the USS Iowa. He was a charter member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church and served on the board of trustees for many years. He was a member of the Versailles American Legion Post #104 for 50 years before transferring to American Legion Zack Wheat Post #624 in Sunrise Beach two years ago, and was a life time member of Gravois Mills V.F.W. Post #5902. He is survived by his wife, Nona Moore of the home; one daughter, Mary Ann Terry and husband, Donald of Laurie, MO; two sons, Tom Moore and wife, Sharon of Sunrise Beach, MO, and George Moore and wife, Sherry of Moberly, MO; two sisters, Fay Williams of Gravois Mills, MO, and Linnie Waisner of Versailles, MO; 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and expecting a great-great-grandchild next month, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one step son, Jay Stevens; one grandson, Matt Stevens; one sister, May Richardson; and three brothers, Keith, Freddie, and Claudie Moore. Services were at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie with Reverend James Lawley officiating. Burial was in Ozark Chapel cemetery in Laurie. Arrangements were under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Sally S. Schell Moore, age 55, of Gravois Mills, peacefully left this world on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri. She was born March 30, 1948 in Jefferson City the daughter of Clifford L and Mildred M. Burnett Schell. She was united in marriage on April 8, 1971 in Jefferson City to Preston L. Moore who survives at the home. She was a 1966 graduate of Jefferson City High School. After graduation she worked for the Division of Insurance for several years and then as a homemaker. Other survivors include a son, Preston L. Moore II of Jefferson City; one daughter, Lindsay K. Rush of Jefferson City; two sisters, Linda L. Slattery, of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Marilyn L. Schell of Jefferson City; one grandson, Cole Lucas Rush of Jefferson City and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 27, 2003 at the KIDWELL-GARBER FUNERAL HOME in Laurie with Reverend Larry Ollison officiating. Interment will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie. Memorials are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the KIDWELL-GARBER FUNERAL HOME of Laurie.

Morris Florence Opal

Opal Florence Morris, age 90, of Nixa, formerly of Gravois Mills, passed away Friday morning, May 13, 2005 at Christian Health Care Center in Nixa. She was born September 9, 1914 near Gravois Mills, Missouri, the daughter of Charlie and Ida K. James Witherell. She married Herschel Kays who preceded her in death. She later married Harley Morris, who also preceded her in death. She is survived by one son, James Arlen Kays of Nixa; two sisters, Anna Orr of Bakersfield, CA, and Katie Kays of Kansas City, many other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Bill and Donald Kays, one brother, Alva Witherell, and one sister, Dorothy Friedley. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 16, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Rod Campbell officiating. The vocal recording of “Peace In The Valley” was played. Interment was in the Big Rock cemetery near Barnett. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Morris S. Lutetia

Lutetia S. Morris, age 106 of Versailles passed away Thursday morning, January 16, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born in Cooper County, Missouri on August 18, 1896, a daughter of the late Will and Lutetia Mills Byler. On July 6, 1918 she was united in marriage with Samuel E. Morris who preceded her in death on October 14, 1968. She is survived by two sons, William E. Morris of Wilmington, Delaware and Harry Leland Morris of St. Louis, Missouri. Her daughter, Lucille (Grills) preceded Mrs. Morris in death in 1979. Mrs. Morris also is survived by three grandchildren including, James Morris of Leawood, Kansas and Nancy Fitzpatrick of Kansas City; nine great-grandchildren, and by a sister Frances Carpenter of Bella Vista, Arkansas formerly of Kansas City, Kansas. Mrs. Morris spent her early years in Prairie Home, Missouri and she graduated from California, Missouri High School. She moved from Boonville to Versailles with her family in 1925, and spent the rest of her life in Versailles. She was active for many years in the First Baptist Church, the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary, and she was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 17, 2003 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Versailles with Reverend Bill Johnson and Reverend Bob Nichols officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Morrison "Tude" R. Raymond

Raymond R. (Tude) Morrison, age 69, of Gravois Mills, passed away Friday morning, November 12, 2004 at his home. He was born July 26, 1935 at Gravois Mills, Missouri, the son of Ivy and Evelyn Ward Morrison. He was united in marriage in 1956 with Christine Abbott. Tude was a boat repairman and co-owner of Blue Anchor Marina. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of the V.F.W. Post in Gravois Mills. Survivors include his wife, Christine Morrison of the home; one son, Richard Morrison of Gravois Mills; two daughters, Deloris Morrison of Gravois Mills, and Trina Morrison of Versailles; one sister, Harriett (Bub) Miles of Belton; a sister-in-law, Norma Morrison of Gravois Mills; two grandchildren, Kylie and Devin Morrison; three step-grandchildren, Raymond and Manuel Moreno, and Rachael Dominguez; two great-grandchildren, Kyjuan and Cambry Buckingham, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 15, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Dinzel Webb officiating. Vocal selections of “Amazing Grace”, “Daddy’s Hands”, “Grandpa” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain” were played. Interment was in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers were Craig Morrison, Zack Morrison, David Dougherty, Darren Dougherty, Rick Moore and Lee Crocker. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri River Hospice. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Much, Helen Marie

Helen Marie Much, age 78, of Kaiser, passed away on December 23, 2205, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on February 1, 1927, the daughter of Carl and Christine Origliasso Pugliese. She was united in marriage on July 17, 1971, in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles Much who survives of the home. Helen was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Osage Beach. She worked for several years as head secretery of personnel at McDonnell-Douglas. She enjoyed going bowling, playing bingo, crafts, and spending time with her friends. She was always busy. Prior to her illness, she worked as a volunteer at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son Jim Haywood of St. Louis, Missouri; two step-sons Steve Much and wife Faith of the state of California and Rick Much of the state of Washington; one daughter Karen Warnica and husband Steve of Eldon, Missouri; four sisters Mary Heidman and husband Les of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, Carol Duquette and husband Chuck of Wentzville, Missouri, Fran Mueth of the state of Alabama, and Rosie Ross of St. Louis, Missouri; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2005, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Interment will be held Friday, December 30, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Missouri Veterans cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Murdock "Micky" Michael

Michael Joe "Micky" Murdock, 41, of Gravois Mills, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at his home. He was born July 14, 1961, in Salinas, Calif., a son of Noland Edgar "Ed" and Myrtle Lucy Anderson Murdock. Mr. Murdock had been produce manager in Albertsons stores in Texas and the Laurie Market in Laurie. Survivors include two sons, Michael Joe Murdock Jr. and Justin Shawn Murdock; and a daughter, Victoria Lee Murdock, all of Wichita Falls, Texas; his parents, Ed and Lucy Murdock of Gravois Mills; two brothers, James Edgar Murdock and Herbie Lee Murdock, both of Gravois Mills. He was preceded in death by a brother, Randy "Andy" Murdock. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie.

Napier Sue Mary

Mary Sue Napier, age 72, of Gravois Mills, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2004 at her home. She was born June 19, 1932 the daughter of Leonard and Ann Maloney. She was united in marriage on June 13, 1953 to Charles H. Price Jr. who preceded her in death on January 9, 1976 on November 24, 1979 she was united in marriage to William P. Napier who preceded her in death on November 4, 1998. Mary was a member of the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie. She is survived by one son Charles “Skip” Price of Lebanon, Connecticut; one daughter, Kathy Heman of Green Ridge, Missouri; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by one son, Mike Price. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Nelson Evelyn Ruth

Ruth Evelyn Nelson, 70, Versailles, died Jan. 12, 2003, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach. She was born Nov. 6, 1932, in Decatur, Ill., a daughter of Tony B. and Gladys M. Richard Elder. She was married April 21, 1956, in Hernando, Miss., to Robert P. Nelson, who died Aug. 5, 1988. She was a homemaker. Survivors include: one foster son, William Dodge, Lebanon; two sisters, Helen JoAnne Calton, Eldon, and Nina "Dee" Byers, Barnett. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Versailles cemetery.

Abraham James “Abe” Nikkel, 66, of Versailles, died Sunday, October 26, 2003 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born June 7, 1937 in Goessel, Kansas, the son of Jacob P. and Eva Marie E. Unrau Nikkel. He graduated from Goessel High School and attended Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas. On October 1, 1960 he married Kathryn Marie Hilty at Fortuna, Missouri, who survives of the home. Abe was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, Fortuna, where he was active in various aspects of the church and community life for the past 30 years. He worked as a builder, farmer, dairyman, and truck driver throughout his professional life. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Julie Goering and her husband, Russell, Hutchinson, Kansas; a son, James P. Nikkel of Newton, Kansas; two granddaughters, Anna and Maggie Goering; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine and Elmer Voth, Newton, Kansas, Doris and Menno Schmidt, Hutchinson, Kansas, Arzella and Mel Dirksen, Denver, Colorado; Orletta and John Goering, Gresham, Oregon, and Joyce and Ken Christopher, Olathe, Kansas; nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Alice Rebecca. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 30, at Bethel Mennonite Church, with Rev. Tom Voth officiating. Interment will be in the Bethel cemetery. Casketbearers will be Vincil Aeschbacher, Daniel Baumgartner, Ronald Baumgartner, Bill Byers, Rodney Yoder and Eric Guhr. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Bethel Mennonite Church Elevator Fund or the Palliative Care Fund, KU Medical Center. Kaneer Huffman Sue Carolyn

Carolyn Sue (Huffman) Kaneer, age 59, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 3, 2004 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. She was born October 29, 1944 at Versailles, daughter of the late Floyd and Cloetta Shewmaker Huffman. She was united in marriage with Carl Kaneer. She graduated from Versailles High School in 1962, and was an office manager for International Auto Sports. Survivors include one daughter, Dawn Kerr and husband Robert, of Kansas City, KS; one brother, Larry Huffman and wife Hazel, of Versailles; one sister, Lana Campbell and husband Bob, of Versailles; two grandchildren, Ryan and Justin; one great-granddaughter, Rylee, three nieces, one nephew, many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 11, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Todd Forman officiating. Inurnment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Kays C. Nadine

Nadine C. Kays, age 75, of Versailles, passed away Sunday evening, February 13, 2005 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born May 7, 1929 in Morgan County, Missouri, the daughter of Eugene D. and Maudie Akin Nichols. Mrs. Kays worked at the Primo Factory and Fasco Industries. She was later an office aide at the Morgan County Division of Family Services. She was a member of West Union Baptist Church. She is survived by four son, Don Kays of Versailles, Joe Kays of Versailles, Hugh Kays of Rosamond, California, and Bill Kays of Versailles; two daughters, Beverly Chastain of Lebanon, and Becky Sizer of Fortuna; one stepson, Jack Kays of Des Moines, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Betty Rose of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Mildred Young of Cedar Rapids, Iowa;12 grandchildren, Bobby Chastain, Justin Kays, Jordon Kays, Scott Sizer, Nicole Sizer, Erin Sizer, Ashley Burkhart, Kimberly Mitchell, Kerry Miller, Zachary William Kays, Sydney Gayle Kays, and Emma Cate Kays; 7 great-grandchildren, Alana, Marah, Makanna, Russell, Hannah, Aiden and Kennedy, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia G. Burkhart, a stepdaughter, Donna Sells, five brothers, Marvin, John, Lewis, Melvin and Loyd Nichols, a half-brother, Hugh Skinner, one grandson, Bryan Dean Chastain, and one great-granddaughter, Paige. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 17, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Rod Campbell officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Scott Sizer, Bobby Chastain, Justin Kays, Jordan Kays, Barry Grider, and Buster Morrison. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to West Union Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
