Harbison Hallene

Hallene E. Harbison, age 85, of Versailles, passed away Wednesday morning, October 27, 2004 at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born May 28, 1919 at Naylor, Missouri, the daughter of Frank Sr. and Zula Sapp Nichols. She was united in marriage on November 1, 1944 in Jefferson City with Harry L. Harbison, who preceded her in death on August 26, 1986. Mrs. Harbison formerly owned and operated a beauty shop in Jefferson City. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles, Rolling Hills Country Club and the Tuesday Women’s Bridge Club. She is survived by two sons, Gary Harbison of San Francisco, California, and Joe A. Harbison of Kansas City; one daughter, Pamela Berry of Columbia; one brother, Frank Nichols Jr., of Columbia; one sister, Opal Gwinn of Jefferson City; six grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 1, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles, with Pastor Diane Miller officiating. Robert D. Ross will sing “How Great Thou Art”, “One Day At A Time” and “The Old Rugged Cross” accompanied at the organ by Virginia Ross. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Zachary and Stephen Harbison, Jonathan, Timothy and David Berry, and George Mincher. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, October 30, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Morgan County Habitat for Humanity or Westminster Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Hardin William Harry

Harry William Hardin, age 94, of Versailles, passed away Monday, April 4, 2005 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. Mr. Hardin was born July 21, 1910 in Marceline, Missouri, to Thomas and Minerva Tryon Hardin. He married Hazel Lain on December 24, 1930. She predeceased him in 1980. He was also predeceased by one son, Norman Lee in 1934. He is survived by his son Wayne of Versailles; three grandchildren, Lora Klein and her husband Cloyce of Eldon; Elaine “Lainie” Franklin of Lee’s Summit, and Rick Hardin of Nevada; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. and Mrs. Hardin started the Versailles Block Factory in 1934 and then later the Versailles Ready Mix Plant. They retired around 1972. Upon retiring, Mr. Hardin spent his time farming, fishing, and playing canasta with his friends. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Versailles cemetery, with Rev. Todd Forman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Good Shepherd Care Center Foundation, the Morgan County Library, or the Morgan County Animal Shelter. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Hayes John
September 3, 2003

John M. Hayes, age 81, of Tipton, passed away Wednesday morning, September 3, 2003 at Tipton Manor in Tipton. He was born November 4, 1921 in Morgan County, Missouri, the son of James Sidney and Effie L. Calton Hayes. He was united in marriage on October 2, 1943 with Zella Marie Finley, who preceded him in death on November 19, 1997. He worked at Gerbes Supermarket in Versailles and later owned Stop and Shop Market in Tipton. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Versailles, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and member of the Edgar Cole American Legion Post #304 in Tipton. He is survived by one son, John Michael Hayes and wife Susan, of Tipton; two grandchildren, Heather and Sarah, three great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by five brothers, Harley, Jess, Alva, James and Bill Hayes, and three sisters, Rosalie Richardson, Mollie Sidebottom and Roxie Willis. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Pastor Roy Bennett officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Delbert Hayes, Karl Hayes, Doug Fowler, Gary Buerky, Richard Mortenson and Jason Claggett. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Hayes Louise Alma

Alma Louise Hayes, age 75, of Bunceton, Missouri, formerly of Versailles, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at Cooper County Hospital in Boonville, Missouri. She was born May 14, 1927 near Barnett, Missouri, the daughter of John and Virginia McGinnis Gunn. She was united in marriage on March 9, 1946 to Clifford L. Hayes who preceded her in death on June 1, 1999. Mrs. Hayes was a supervisor for Primo Pants in Versailles. She was a member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Gravois Mills. She is survived by one daughter, Jean Hurt and husband, Ronald of Bunceton, Missouri; one brother Wade Gunn of Peoria, Illinois; two sisters, Brooks Burkhart of Kliever, Missouri, and Fannie Ewe of Washington, Illinois; three grandchildren, Ronald Wayne Hurt, Crystal Chapman and Kent Hurt; three great-grandchildren, Heaven Myers, Taylor Hurt, and Lexus Chapman, many other relatives and friends. Services will be at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, February 8, 2003 at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Roy Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M. Saturday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Hays "Nadine" Lora

Lora “Nadine” Hays, age 85, of Versailles, formerly of Fortuna, passed away Thursday afternoon, February 17, 2005 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born December 31, 1919 in Morgan County, the daughter of the late Owen and Nellie Smith Drake. She was united in marriage on February 2, 1945 to Ercell Hunter Hays Jr. who preceded her in death on December 21, 1987. Nadine attended school at Akinsville and Fortuna. She worked in factories in Tipton and Versailles. She also was the cook at the Versailles Sale Barn for many years and was a member of the Fortuna Baptist Church. She is survived by one sister, Kitturah Rapp of Stover, several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Harold Drake; and one sister Bernice Bridges. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 19, 2005 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Todd Forman officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made the Versailles cemetery or the Newkirk cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Helton Carol W.

W. Carol Helton, age 60, of Versailles, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at the University of Missouri Hospital & Clinics in Columbia. She was born July 23, 1944 at Versailles, Missouri, the daughter of Earl James and Grace O. Caviness Whittle. She was united in marriage on March 7, 1964 with Larry Helton. Mrs. Helton worked in the housekeeping department at the Kidwell Home in Versailles, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church near Versailles. She is survived by her husband, Larry Helton of Eldon; one son, Greg Helton of Jefferson City; one daughter, Tracy Topper of Evansville, Indiana; two brothers, Johnny Whittle of Greenville, Mississippi, and Earl Whittle Jr. of Clearwater, Florida; two sisters, Velma Wolf of Kansas City, and Shirley Marriott of Versailles; two grandchildren, Andrew Everett and Noah Salke, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 13, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Hibdon Marie Eva
September 28, 2003

Eva Marie (Purvis) Hibdon, age 90, of Laurie, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2003 at Laurie Care Center. She was born February 12, 1913 in Old Purvis, Missouri, the daughter of Ivy and Ora Hill Purvis. She was united in marriage on August 30, 1930 with William Robert “Bob” Hibdon, and celebrated their 72nd anniversary before his death on September 6, 2002. Eva was a homemaker who loved spending time with her husband, 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandsons. She was a charter member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie, and member of the Versailles O.E.S. Chapter 410. Survivors include 2 daughters, Carolyn M. Burks of Kansas City, MO, Sharon K. Washburn of Rogers, AR; a daughter-in-law Shirley B. Hibdon, Independence, Mo; two sisters, Nona Moore of Laurie, MO, and Rosemary Butts of Sunrise Beach, MO; sister-in-law Helen Purvis and brother-in-law Charles Butts, many other family members and friends. Eva was preceded in death by her parents and husband, son Robert J. “Bobby Jack” Hibdon; sons-in-law Clifford Burks and David Washburn, grandson Sammy Washburn; and brothers John and George Purvis. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie, with Rev. Fred Royer, Rev. Rick White and Steve Ronnekamp officiating. Hymns were sung by Steve Ronnekamp accompanied at the organ by Nelda Ronnekamp. Interment was in Ozark Chapel cemetery. Casketbearers were Scott Washburn, Mike Burks, Chris McDaniel, Willie Hibdon, Chris Meyer and Cory Burks. Memorial contributions are suggested to Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church or Ozark Chapel cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Hickerson Mae Elsie
October 22, 2003

Elsie Mae Hickerson, 69, of Camdenton, MO, passed away Wednesday morning, October 22, 2003, after a long and courageous battle against heart disease. Elsie was born January 7, 1934 in Caldwell, KS. She graduated from Blackwell High School in 1951. She received her B.A. degree from Wichita Business College and was a member of the Alpha Iota Sorority. She worked for Amortibanc Investment Company of Wichita, KS. She became a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in 1978. Elsie enjoyed playing Bridge and was the Coordinator of the Monday Bridge Club at the Sunrise Beach Community Center for over 25 years. She participated in many other Bridge Clubs throughout the Lake Area playing her favorite game with many friends. Elsie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Henry "Buzz" Hickerson, and two sons: Alan and his wife Kelly of Concord, CA, and their children, Scott and Bradley; and Aaron and his wife Eve of Sunrise Beach, MO, and their children, Austin, Michael and Carrie. She is also survived by her three brothers: Earnest Urban and his wife, Delores, of Rentin, WA; Edwin Urban and his wife Glenda, and Elbert Urban and his wife, Joyce, all of Blackwell, OK, many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at the KIDWELL-GARBER FUNERAL HOME 417 Silvey Road in Laurie, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie

Hickman Fred

Fred Hickman, age 68, of Sunrise Beach, MO., departed this life on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, MO. He was born February 20, 1937 in Springfield, MO, and spent his early life in Cross Timbers, MO. When he was 8, his family moved to Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Northeast High School. On February 18, 1956 he was united in marriage to Loretta Canole and of this union two children were born. They moved to a small farm outside of Liberty and with his parents raised cattle, hogs, corn and bailed hay. Fred’s career of 36 years was in the banking field. He started at Kaw Valley State Bank and Merchant Produce. Fred was at First National Bank of Liberty, MO, for many years, starting as a teller, promoted to assistant cashier and then Vice President. He graduated from Wisconsin School of Banking. Fred was involved with Liberty Jaycees and Rotary Club, and also volunteered time as secretary of Salvation Army. He moved to Kearney and was vice president at Kearney Commercial Bank. He retired from banking in 1991 and moved to Clarinda, Iowa, where he and Loretta owned and operated the Clarinda Inn. In 2000, they retired and moved to Sunrise Beach, MO, where they became active with the Osage Community Lodge 2705 Order of Elks in Laurie. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Emma Hickman. He is survived by Loretta Hickman, his lovingly devoted wife of 49 years, a daughter, Sheryl Godsy and her husband Mike, of Liberty, MO, and a son, Jeff Hickman of Independence, MO, and three grandchildren, Meghan, Tyler, and Michael Godsy, and mother in law Clara Canole, of Claycomo, MO. More than anything Fred loved having fun with family and friends and anyone he met. He was fortunate to have so many good friends, and he will be truly missed by all who knew him, especially by two dear friends that were like the brothers he never had. Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie, MO. Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone. Burial will be in Glenridge cemetery in Liberty. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie, MO.

Hilburn Reba

Reba L. Hilburn, age 83, of Versailles, passed away Sunday evening, February 2, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born October 25, 1919 in Wyburg, Kentucky, the daughter of Charley and Maggie Miller, at the age of nine she was adopted by Henry and Maggie Otten of Stover, Missouri. She was a member of the West Union Baptist Church near Versailles where she accepted Christ in 1979. She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Dority of Stover, Missouri, Joyce Bowers and husband, Jim of Versailles, Missouri, and Judy Stevenson of Placentia, California; one brother, Noble Otten of Roscoe, Illinois; six grandchildren Jimmy, Gary, Dale Jr., Tamara, Philip, and Teresa; nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Hayle Broaddus. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 6, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Dallas Moritz officiating. Burial will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Hill, Eathel Cora

Eathel Cora Hill, age 90, of Boonville, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 17, 2005 at Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center in Marceline. She was born September 16, 1915 at Malden, Missouri, the daughter of Turner and Nancy Kiger Sweezea. She was united in marriage on November 5, 1933 with Fred Hill, who preceded her in death on March 3, 1977. Mrs. Hill was a homemaker and member of Truth Tabernacle Church. She is survived by three sons, Earl Hill of Versailles, Floyd Hill of Syracuse, and Cecil Hill of Booneville; one daughter, Audrey O’Bryan of Marceline; one brother, Arvel Sweezea of Naylor; 16 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, numerous great and great great-grandchildren, and step great and great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Charles Cook officiating. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Green Hill cemetery near Piedmont, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Hofstetter, Lubertha

Lubertha Hofstetter, age 89, of Florence, passed away on November 29, 2005, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born in Morgan County, Missouri, on August 28, 1916, the daughter of William and Lulu Klein Fethke. She was united in marriage on May 4, 1941 to Wilbert Wilson Hofstetter who preceded her in death on September 6, 1991. Lubertha was a member of Florence United Methodist Church. She was a retired teacher teaching at several schools in the area with her last teaching position at Cole Camp. She loved canning, cooking, and working in her garden. She is survived by two sons, Daryl Hofstetter and wife Patty of Stover, Missouri, and David Hofstetter and wife Cheryl of Florence, Missouri; five grandchildren, Daryn Hofstetter and Dena Leggerio of Stover, Missouri, Jeremy Hofstetter and Seth Hofstetter of Smithton, Missouri, and Scott Hofstetter of Columbia, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Shawn and Johnny Leggerio of Stover, Missouri. She is preceded in death by one brother Lowell Fethke, one half-brother, Charles Rehmer who was killed in WWII, one twin sister, Louise Fethke, and one step-sister Cora Mahnken. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 3, 2005, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Ray Varnado. The family will receive friends Friday, December 2, 2005, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Florence Methodist cemetery in Florence, Missouri. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Florence United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Hoover S. Margaret

Margaret S. Hoover, age 16 of Latham, passed away Thursday morning, January 9, 2003 at her home. She was born August 20, 1986 at home near Latham, the daughter of Earl and Elizabeth Sauder Hoover. She is survived by her parents, Earl and Elizabeth Hoover of the home; four brothers, Abel, Floyd, Naaman and Henry Hoover; and four sisters, Irene, Leora, Lena and Elva Hoover, all of the home; paternal grandparents, John and Ella Hoover of Curtis, Wisconsin; maternal grandparents, Enos and Lydia Sauder of Latham; step great-grandparents, Abram and Nora Rissler of Barnett; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by one sister, Emma Hoover on November 6, 1999, and her paternal grandmother Leah Hoover. Services were at 9:30 A.M. Monday, January 9, 2003 at the Clearview Mennonite Church near Versailles with Ministers Daniel Newswanger, Ivan Hurst, Raymond Stauffer, and Raymond Shirk officiating. Burial was in the Clearview cemetery. Arrangements were under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles

Hoskins Leo Delbert
September 12, 2003

Delbert Leo Hoskins, age 79, of Versailles, passed away Friday, September 12, 2003 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born February 26, 1924 in Morgan County, MO, the son of Joe S. and Jerusha Ellen Bailey Hoskins. He was united in marriage on October 30, 1952 with Wilma O. Dowell, who preceded him in death on December 26, 1981. To this union one son was born. On October 19, 1985 he married Alma Dowell, who survives of the home. Delbert worked at the M.F.A. in Tipton for several years and later owned and operated a service station in Fortuna for many years. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Versailles. In addition to his wife Alma, he is survived by his son, Bennie Hoskins and wife Brenda, of Conyers, GA; one sister, Ruth Marriott of Versailles; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Almon Hoskins, and three sisters, Dica Harley, Gladys Bellamy and Alma Strothers. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 15, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Gary Petty officiating. Interment will be in the Hopewell cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Assembly of God Church in Versailles. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
