Cora E. Newton, age 72, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 20, 2015, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri.

She was born May 15, 1943, in Rogers, Arkansas, the daughter of Buster and Belva Juanita (Stanpill) White. On September 13, 1972, she was united in marriage to John Thomas Newton, Jr. who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Tammy Lee Durosette; two sisters and one brother.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jo Newton Young and her husband Gene Autry, Jr. of Decater, Arkansas, and Juanita Newton of Rogers, Arkansas; one brother, Jackie White of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; two sisters, Bonnie Patterson and her husband Donnie of Paducah, Kentucky and Betty Hency and her husband Douglas of Garfield, Arkansas; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Cora grew up and received her education in Rogers, Arkansas. After school she went to work for the House of Webster, in Rogers, Arkansas. She really liked her job working in production she put labels on jelly jars. About ten years ago she moved to Washburn to make her home and four years ago moving to Cassville. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing and serving in many activities. Doing puzzles and going with the girls singing and dancing on the weekends were some of her favorite pastimes. She was an all-around loving person.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 22, 2015, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri. Reverend Lawrence Shuey will conduct the services.

LeAnna Maye Terry
(June 7, 1983 - July 18, 2015)

LeAnna Maye Terry, age 32, of Butterfield, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015, near Exeter.

She was born June 7, 1983, in Aurora, Missouri, the daughter of William M. Terry and Nancy (Padgett) Nunez. Surviving are her mother, Nancy Nunez and her husband, Antonio of Butterfield, Missouri; her father, William M. Terry and his wife, Janelle of Billings, Missouri; two sons, Miguel Terry and Malcolm Terry both of Butterfield, Missouri; one daughter, Monica Terry of Butterfield, Missouri; maternal grandfather, Lyle Padgett of Cassville, Missouri; paternal grandfather, Haskell Terry of Purdy, Missouri; one brother, Travis W. Terry and his wife, Leticia of Billings, Missouri; one sister, Chell Dawn Taylor and her husband, Jason of Cassville, Missouri; two step-brothers, Salgio Aldaba and Hector Nunez both of Madill, Oklahoma; three step-sisters, Anna Nunez and Christian Sanchez of Madill, Oklahoma, Yahaira Nunez of Madill, Oklahoma and Enereida Aldava of Madill, Oklahoma and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her maternal grandmother, Delphena Padgett; paternal grandmother, Oleta Holloway and two uncles, Daniel Luke Padgett and Rhuel Dale Padgett.

LeAnna received her education in Cassville. She was employed at Regal as a multi system operator. She was a member of Log Church in Butterfield. She loved her kids.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Carolyn McNabb will conduct the services. Burial will be in Clio cemetery, Jenkins.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

Pallbearers will be Lance Eaton, Hector Nunez, Christian Sanchez, Justin Terry, Jason Evans and Jordan Evans.

An account has been set up at Freedom Bank for LeAnna’s Children. Checks may be made to Nancy Nunez or Travis Terry.

Betty Jean Duncan
(October 14, 1922 - July 20, 2015)

Betty Jean (Assel) Duncan, age 92, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 20, 2015, in Mercy Hospital, Cassville.

She was born October 14, 1922, near Ridgeway, Missouri in Harrison County, the daughter of Ollie V. and Ethel (Smith) Assel. On September 6, 1947, she was united in marriage to J. Lowell Duncan, who preceded her in death in March, 2005. Also preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers and one sister.

Surviving are one son, John W. Duncan of Fillmore, Missouri; two daughters, Deborah “Deb” Fanning and her husband, Bill of Cassville, Missouri and Dr. Nancy Jensen of Richmond, Virginia and Washington D.C.; one brother; three sisters; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

At the age of one she moved to Kingston, Missouri to the Smith Family Farm, remaining there until the age of eighteen. She attended West Prairie Country School, attended one year at Kingston High School and in 1940, graduated from Hamilton High School. She then entered the Missouri Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1944. In 1945, she entered Lying Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, extending her study in Obstetrics. She then returned to Missouri Methodist Hospital as a supervisor in obstetrics. After her marriage to Lowell, she retired to Fillmore, Missouri to be a farmer’s wife and care for their three children. She later returned to nursing part time at Laverna Village Extended Care in Savannah, Missouri, as evening nursing supervisor, retiring in 1993, for health reasons.

Betty enjoyed traveling, being with family, sewing and making quilts.

At the age of twelve she made her profession of faith at Hamilton Methodist Church. Throughout her life she was involved in church activities, especially sewing and quilting groups. God was an important part of her life and she thanked him for 92 years with family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 23, 2015, in Savannah First Christian Church, Savannah, Missouri, under direction of Breit-Hawkins Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah. Burial will be in Fillmore cemetery, Fillmore, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday in Breit-Hawkins Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah, Missouri.

Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Food Pantry in memory of Betty.

There will also be a visitation from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Sunday, July 26, 2015, in the home of Bill and Deb Fanning, 22061 Coyote Ridge Road, Autumn Estates, Cassville, Missouri.

Local arrangements were under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

C.S. Rose
(July 15, 1924 - July 23, 2015)

C.S. Rose, age 91, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri.

He was born July 15, 1924, in Washburn, Missouri, the son of Lemma and Ola (Pippin) Rose. On January 29, 1949, he was united in marriage to Carrie Patterson, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Greg Rose and his wife, Shelley of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; one daughter, Judy Rose Preston of Titusville, Florida; one brother, Denver Rose and his wife, Doris of Cassville, Missouri; two sisters, Olene Hendrix and her husband, Ernest of Washburn, Missouri and Fern Hopkins and her husband, Wendell of Cassville, Missouri and two grandchildren, Sheridan Rose of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Samuel Rose of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers, Billie, Lionel, Jim, Max and Denny; four sisters, Nina, Eva Mae, Mary and Ina and a son-in-law, Walter Preston.

C.S. grew up and received his education at Washburn and attended two years of college. During World War II he joined the United States Navy, serving from January 20, 1943, until January 19, 1946. He was employed at Rockwell International for several years. He worked on rocket engines including all manned Apollo moon shots, B1B Bomber, Space Shuttle and Minute Man Missle. In 1987, he retired from Rockwell as a rocket engine inspector. Upon returning to Joplin he operated Rose’s Berry Patch for eleven years. He moved back to this area in 1998 and was a member of Prairie Hill Baptist Church, Washburn, Missouri. He enjoyed traveling and being on the go with his wife of 66 years. He was always doing something like working in his garden and loved to hunt and fish.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 27, 2015, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri. Pastor Jerry Williams will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be in King cemetery, Seligman, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

As the last remaining charter member, contributions may be made in his name to Prairie Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.

Lonnie "L.J." Dart, Jr.
(April 7, 1931 - July 24, 2015)

Lonnie “L.J.” Dart, Jr., age 84 of Garfield, Arkansas, passed away Friday, July 24, 2015, in Circle of Life at Legacy Village, Bentonville, Arkansas.

He was born April 7, 1931, in Garfield, Arkansas, the son of Lonnie Seth and Margaret (O’Neill) Dart. He was married to Winnie Persons, who passed away. He later married Mary Murphy, who also preceded him in death. In January, 2007, he was united in marriage to Bobbie Easley, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Jean Jones of Benton City, Washington and Debra Dart of Rogers, Arkansas; one brother, Gaylord Dart of Garfield, Arkansas; one sister, Rebecca Wilkerson of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; one granddaughter; two great grandchildren; five nieces; two nephews; his best friend and Air Force buddy, Dean Preston of Huntsville, Alabama; three step children; five step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wives, Winnie and Mary; one son, Andy and one brother, Bernard.

L.J. grew up and received his education at Garfield, where he graduated from high school. He then entered the United States Air Force, serving from 1951 until 1955. He then worked as a mail carrier, from which he retired and was a farm and cattle buyer. For twenty-nine years he owned and operated a service station in Gateway, Arkansas. He was a past bank director for Seligman Bank and Bank of Aurora for twenty-seven years and was the Mayor of Gateway, Arkansas. He was a member of Garfield Church of Christ and a member of Gideons International.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 27, 2015, in Garfield Baptist Church, Garfield, Arkansas, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri. Bobby Vaughn and Russell Bishop will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be in Liberty cemetery, Garfield, Arkansas.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Sunday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

Contributions may be made to Gideons International or Garfield Church of Christ in memory of L.J.

Susie E. Reed
(November 30, 1938 - July 24, 2015)

Susie E. Reed, of Exeter, lost her battle with breast cancer on Friday, July 24. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones. Her husband, James (Rusty) Reed was holding her hand as she passed.

Susie was born in Walsh, Colorado, on November 30, 1938. She was the daughter of Garland and Lula Wills. She was raised by her foster parents, William (Bob) and Effie Wills.

She was united in marriage to James (Rusty) Reed in Clayton, New Mexico, on February 16, 1956. Everyone said the marriage would never last, but it lasted 59 years, and they were blessed with five children.

Susie left behind her husband, Rusty; five children, Floyd Reed, of Exeter, Debbie Reed, of Cassville, and partner, Tom Freeman of Pierce City, Tom Reed and wife, Donna, of Cassville, Donita Vaught and husband, Clay, of Cassville, and Jay Reed and partner, Steve Burcham of Benton, Arkansas; aunts and uncles Margaret Wills, of Walsh, Colorado, Lester Wills, of Gentry, Arkansas and Mary Ann Bailey, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, foster parents and brother, staff sergeant Wesley Wills.

She received her education in Baca County, Colorado. She was a Baptist and loved all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing softball, sports, gardening, yard saling, sewing, going to tractor pulls and dirt track racing. She also loved her dog Tater.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, at 10 a.m. at Oak Ridge cemetery. The services will be conducted by Irene and Dewayne Day under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

Benjamin "Joe" Staats
(October 28, 1929 - July 28, 2015)

Benjamin Joseph “Joe” Staats, age 85, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015, in his home.

He was born October 28, 1929, in Somerfield, Texas, the son of Theodore Oliver and Mary Belle (Atchley) Staats. On May 17, 1953, in Bentonville, Arkansas, he was married to Angie Hester Jackson, who preceded him in death in October, 1999. Also preceding him in death were his parents.

On February 22, 2003, in Rogers, Arkansas he was united in marriage to Luceta (DeBusk) Soard, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, JoAnn Staats of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Debbie Speer and her husband, Phil of Seligman, Missouri; three step-sons, Darren Soard of Shell Knob, Missouri, Curtis Soard of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Donnie Soard and his wife, Sarah of Oswego, Illinois; two brothers, Gene Staats and his wife, Shirley of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Robert Staats and his wife, Linda of Bentonville, Arkansas; one sister, Margaret McGee of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Amanda House and her husband, Scott and Wayne Oberg; four great grandchildren, Samantha, Stacie and her husband, David, Krystal and Savannah; one great-great granddaughter, Marideth Munson and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Joe grew up and received his education in Texas, graduating from high school in Hereford, Texas and then attended one year of college. On October 13, 1948, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving until April 21, 1954. For several years he was employed as a mail carrier from which he retired. He was past president of the Letter Carriers Association. He had owned and operated Staats Flower Shop in Bentonville, Arkansas and later worked at Sam’s for Lost Prevention. In 2003, he moved from Bentonville to Shell Knob, Missouri to make his home. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Shell Knob.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 30, 2015, in Shell Knob First Baptist Church, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Bob Gaddis will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday in Bentonville cemetery, Bentonville, Arkansas.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 until service time Thursday in Shell Knob First Baptist Church.

Contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus in memory of Joe.

Wanda G. Stone
(August 2, 1922 - July 27, 2015)

Wanda G. Stone, age 92, of Seneca, Missouri, formerly of Wheaton, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015, at the Seneca House, Seneca, Missouri.

She was born August 2, 1922, in Jacket, Missouri, the daughter of Alford and Pansey (Forgey) Hall. On January 11, 1942, she was united in marriage to Charles L. Stone, who preceded her in death on April 19, 2011. Also preceding her in death were one son, Edward Lee Stone; her parents, Alford and Pansey Hall and five brothers, Darrel Hall, Howard Hall, Wayne Hall, Windle Hall and Dean Hall.

She is survived by one daughter, Jovita Martin and her husband, Larry of Joplin, Missouri; one son, Bob Stone and his wife, Peggy, of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; two sisters, Connie Williams of Cassville, Missouri and Peggy Dunlap and her husband, Randy of Stafford, Missouri; four grandchildren, Wade Payne and his wife, Joyce of Fairland, Oklahoma, Regina (Payne) Barton and her husband, Chuck of Farlington, Kansas, Leslie Stone, M.D. of Brooklyn, New York and Brian Stone and his fiancée, Shawna Barnes of Fayetteville, Arkansas; five step-grandchildren, Keri Bradley and her husband, Jim of Diamond, Missouri, Robyn Horner and her husband, David of Webb City, Missouri, Ron Martin and his wife, Rowena of Nixa, Missouri, Randy Martin and his wife, Brenda of Joplin, Missouri and Rick Martin of Clio, Michigan; four great grandchildren; eleven step-great grandchildren and thirteen step great-great grandchildren.

She graduated from White Rock School in Jane, Missouri. After they sold their farm near Wheaton, Missouri, she and Charles moved to Seneca, Missouri in 2002. She was mother and housewife. She was a member of the Seneca Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, July 31, 2015, in Seneca Church of Christ, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Burial will be in Antioch cemetery, Washburn, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time Friday in Seneca Church of Christ.

Contributions may be made to Fair Haven Children’s Home in memory of Wanda.
