Linda Faye Shockley
(January 22, 1948 - November 4, 2015)

Linda Faye Shockley, age 67, of Wheaton, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015, in her home.

She was born January 22, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Charles and Gullela (Roughtan) West. On August 24, 1974, in Neosho, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Jim Shockley, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her father and one brother, Bobby West.

Surviving are one son, Brandon Shockley and his fiancé Julie of Wheaton, Missouri; her mother, Gullela West of Neosho, Missouri; two brothers, Ronald G. West and his wife Carol of Goodman, Missouri and Charles West of Anderson, Missouri; two sisters, Carol Cooper and her husband Ronnie of Seneca, Missouri and Donna Yeager and her husband Keith of Webb City, Missouri and one granddaughter, Kristian Shockley.

Linda was a graduate of Neosho High School. For several years she was employed as the lunchroom cashier at Benton School in Neosho. She was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Rebecca Order of Odd Fellows and helped the Wheaton Street Machines. Some of her favorite pastimes were attending cattle auctions and going to the park with her granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 7, 2015, in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery, Exeter, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton.

Heather Ann Adkins
(April 16, 1968 - November 9, 2015)

Heather Ann Adkins, age 47, of Seligman, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015, in her home.

She was born April 16, 1968, in Bakersfield, California. On May 15, 2003 in Fresno, California, she was united in marriage to Bryan Adkins, who survives. Also surviving are her mother, Ramona (Swearingen) Beard of Garfield, Arkansas; one son, Dakota Allen Adkins of Missouri; two daughters, Dominique Nunẽz and Jennifer Nunẽz both of California; four step-sons, Joel Allen Adkins of New Mexico, Aaron Allen Adkins of North Carolina, Timon Allen Adkins of Missouri and Stephen Allen Adkins of California; one step-daughter, Tiana Adkins of Indiana; one brother, Tyler Wayne Corbit of San Angelo, Texas; three sisters, Angelina Christensen of Garfield, Arkansas, Machael Ray of Seligman, Missouri and Nancy Brown of Garfield, Arkansas and one grandchild.

Preceding her in death was her step-father, Michael Wayne Beard.

Heather grew up in California and was a graduate of Monache High School in Porterville, California. She received her LPN license from Visalia Nursing School in Visalia, California. For several years she was employed as a nurse for Sierra View Hospital in Porterville, California. Four years ago she moved from Fresno, California to Seligman to make her home. Some of her favorite pastimes were sewing, crocheting, being outdoors and singing.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Seligman New Beginnings Ministries, Seligman, Missouri. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

Fred Gutherie Cooper
(January 18, 1919 - November 11, 2015)

U.S. Veteran
Fred Gutherie Cooper, age 96, of Golden, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015, in his home.

He was born January 18, 1919, in Etowah, Tennessee, the son of Lee Taylor and Mary Elzie (Shelton) Cooper. On March 30, 1940, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he was united in marriage to Agnes E. Higgins, who preceded him in death on December 17, 2010. Also preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Sheila Allen and his dog, Chester, whom he loved very much.

Fred’s family moved to Golden, Missouri, when he was a child. At the age of eighteen he moved to Colorado and worked for the railroad. He then joined the United States Army, serving during World War II. After the war he returned to Colorado and in 1947 moved back to Golden, where he farmed and later worked for the federal government as a meat and poultry inspector. In 1982 he retired and enjoyed traveling and living on the lake. He was one of the people who helped build Holy Family Catholic Church in Shell Knob, where he was a member and a council member. He was a charter member of VFW in Shell Knob and a life-time member of the DAV.

A special thanks to Kelly Davis, Bobbie Dowling and Monica Rigg for their help in caring for and loving Fred.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 13, 2015, in Holy Family Catholic Church, Shell Knob, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Father Hank Grodecki will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be in Viney Creek cemetery, Golden.

Rosary will be held at 9:30 A.M. Friday in the church.

Contributions may be made to VFW Post 2203, Wounded Warriors or DAV in memory of Fred.

Gary Lee Richmeier
(January 9, 1953 - November 13, 2015)

Gary Lee Richmeier, age 62, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 13, 2015, in his home.

He was born January 9, 1953, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Elmer J. “E.J. and Mary Jean (Aich) Richmeier, who survive of Shell Knob. Also surviving are one brother, Glenn Richmeier and his wife Jennifer of Tampa Bay, Florida; three sisters, Janice Nusser and her husband Phil of St. John, Kansas, Brenda Rose and Danny Spain of Edwards, Missouri and Lisa Bascue and her husband Brad of Olathe, Kansas and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was one brother, Fred Joseph Richmeier.

Gary was a graduate of Hoxie High School in Hoxie, Kansas. He was six hours away from receiving his Bachelor’s degree from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. For several years he was supervisor of security for West Tech Security, Aspen, Colorado. Six years ago he moved from Basalt, Colorado to Shell Knob, Missouri to make his home. He was of the catholic faith. Some of his favorite pastimes were snow skiing, kayaking, genealogy, working and was known for his stories. He loved the outdoors and was an avid basketball player, and still enjoyed shooting baskets.

Services will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.

Terry Joe Korach
(November 28, 1949 - November 17, 2015)

Terry Joe Korach, age 65, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015, in Roaring River Health and Rehabilitation, Cassville, Missouri.

He was born November 28, 1949, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Joseph “Joe” and Clara (Osana) Korach. On July 4, 1986, in Shell Knob, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Janice Copeland, who survives. Also surviving are two step-daughters, Kari Bowling and her husband, Kevin of Branson West, Missouri and Dana McCullough of Green Forest, Arkansas and five step grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Terry grew up and received his education in Kansas, graduating from high school in Wichita and then attended Wichita State University. For several years he was a certified real estate appraiser and opened a tax office in Shell Knob, where he was a personal tax accountant. He had been a resident of Shell Knob since 1984, when he moved from Wichita. He loved his cats, the Yankee’s baseball team and watching sports. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 21, 2015, in Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.

Contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus in memory of Terry.

Reverend Bob C. Neeley
(October 17, 1926 - November 23, 2015)

Reverend Bob C. Neeley, age 89, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 23, 2015, in his home.

He was born October 17, 1926, in the Pasley Community, the son of Horace and Jewette (Reams) Neeley. On December 28, 1945, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, he was united in marriage to Betty Banks, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Stephanie Neeley-McGee and her husband Dave of Springfield, Missouri, Ronda Neeley of Springfield, Missouri and Vicki Neeley of Cassville, Missouri; six grandchildren, Trent Cowherd, Kimberly Clarke, Michelle Butcher, Mark Easley, Bobby Noland and Whitney Kloss; sixteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters, Barbara Swearingen and Betty Ann Crain.

Bob grew up and received his education in Cassville, he was the Valedictorian of the Class of 1944. During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Corp as a Navigator. For several years he was a mail carrier and clerk for the United States Post Office in Cassville from which he retired. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. In 1969 he surrendered to preach, starting as associate pastor of Corinth Baptist Church and became Director of Mission for Barry County. Other churches he served were at Grandview, Emmanuel and Miller, making a full circle back to Corinth. He was an avid golfer and his father owned the first sand course in Barry County. At the age of 79 he made his first hole-in-one on the 11th hole at the Cassville Golf Course. In the 1950’s he coached a championship little league team, which he was very proud of the team. Bob was also known for his great sense of humor. His love for God and his love for family were the most important things to him.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 25, 2015, in Corinth Baptist Church, Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Donnie Spears will conduct the services. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery, Exeter, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

Patricia "Pat" Ann Ray
(June 1, 1930 - November 22, 2015)

Patricia Ann “Pat” (Linn) Ray, age 85, of Jenkins, Missouri, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, Missouri.

She was born June 1, 1930, in Fort Scott, Kansas, to Alton and Dorothy Linn. She was baptized at an early age in the First Baptist Church of Fort Scott, and graduated from Fort Scott High School.

On April 15, 1952, Pat was united in marriage to Bob Ray of Jenkins, Missouri, who survives. She is also survived by sons, Charles K. Ray of Overland Park, Kansas and R. David Ray and his wife Melinda of West Plains, Missouri, and their children Joshua Ray and his wife Becca, Logan Ray and Emma Ray.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter Becky, by her son Matthew, by her parents and her brother Charles Linn who died in military service.

She was a wonderful mother, a great cook, housewife and helpmate to her husband. Pat worked with Field’s Photo and the Variety Store in Cassville for several years. She will be sorely missed by all her many friends who knew and loved her.

At her direction no services will be held. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri.

Richard Bruce Oplinger
(May 27, 1951 - November 14, 2015)

Richard Bruce Oplinger, age 64, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, Missouri.

He was born May 27, 1951, in Ithica, New York, the son of Grandville Bruce and Neva (Westbrook) Oplinger who preceded him in death.

Richard was raised in Ithica where he graduated from high school. He became a self -employed carpenter building new homes. He later moved to Seligman, Missouri, and four years ago made his home in Joplin, Missouri.

Surviving are two, sons Richard Oplinger of Jefferson City, Missouri, and John Oplinger and daughter-in-law, Christina Shoemaker of Exeter, Missouri; one daughter Shawn Short of Washburn, Missouri; two brothers, Eugene Williams of Seligman, Missouri, and Ron Johnson of Jefferson, Ohio; two sisters, Carolyn Oplinger of Joplin, Missouri and Nancy Oplinger of West Covina, California, and six grandchildren.

Working on motorcycles, fishing, joking and spending time with his grandchildren were some of his favorite pastimes.

No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri.

Curry Gene Bates
(October 20, 1937 - November 26, 2015)

Curry Gene Bates, age 78, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015. He was born Wednesday, October 20, 1937, in Exeter, Missouri at home. He was the son of Hugh and Geneva (Curry) Bates. He was the grandson of Ross and Mertie (Hodges) Curry and Charley Sam and Ida Jane Barr Bates all of Exeter, Missouri at the time of birth. His parents and grandparents have passed away and all are buried at Maplewood cemetery in Exeter, Missouri. He is survived by one sister, Karen (Bates) Courdin of Springdale, Arkansas and his wife of over fifty years, Irene Bates.

On April 20, 1959 Curry was married to the love of his life, Irene (Henson) Bates, who survives him. To this union two children were born, Charles Vincent Bates, (Deceased) and Brian Gene Bates of Springfield, Missouri. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Tina and Ashley Bates of Springfield, Missouri. Mr. Bates attended Exeter, Missouri grade school. He also attended Cassville High School and graduated in May of 1956. He served in the U.S. Army and in 1960 joined the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, which he retired from in 1990. During this time he attended many college classes and schools. After retirement Curry and Irene returned to this area and lived in Shell Knob, Missouri. During this time they owned B and L Outlet in Shell Knob. Mr. Bates was a Master Mason and was raised to the Third Degree in August of 1962 at Orient Lodge No 546 in Kansas City, Missouri. After moving to Shell Knob, Missouri he joined the Scottish Rite Valley of Joplin, Missouri and was a 32 Degree Mason. Later he joined the Abu Ben Adhem Shrine in Springfield and the Shell Knob Shrine Club in Shell Knob, Missouri. He was also a member of the Bridgeview Masonic Lodge in Shell Knob, Missouri. Curry and Irene were very active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a long time member of the Foe In Sugar Creek Eagles Club. He was a charter member of the Mt. Vernon Eagles Club. He was a long time member of the Foe Eagles Club 4155 in Shell Knob. He had served in most of the offices, including six times as president.

Curry and Irene loved to travel and had been to many countries they could only dream of as children. He was a life-long birder and also loved the Southern Missouri Ozarks and had traveled over most of it in the past 60 years by foot, on a bicycle, a motor scooter in the 1950’s and in the 1960’s and 1970’s on motor cycles, and since then in a 4 wheel drive vehicle. He also had a great love of music and loved to target shoot any type of firearm.

Curry always said his last thought would be of his wife Irene and their wonderful and long life together, and of their many adventures in life. The Bates and Henson families are pioneer families in Southwest Missouri and Barry County.

Burial will be in the family plot by his grandfather Charley Sam Bates at Maplewood cemetery in Exeter, Missouri, which was his wish, and to be joined by Irene later.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 1, 2015, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri. Pastor Doyle Russell will conduct the services. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
