SOMMERER

Imogene E. "Jean" Sommerer,  Jefferson City, died Dec. 22, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born in St. Thomas, a daughter of Frank I. and Amelia Kraus Huhman. She was married May 29, 1937, in Bowling Green, to John Michael Sommerer Jr., who died Feb. 28, 1978.

A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she was a sales clerk for Jacques Ladies Clothing Store.

Survivors include: one son, John Michael Sommerer III,  Jefferson City; four daughters, Jean Wagner, Sherman Oaks, Calif., Kathryn Sale, Van Nuys, Calif., Judy Palazzari and Mary Bremmerkamp, both of  Jefferson City; two sisters, Beatrice Forck,  Jefferson City, and Agnes Gerling, Mexico; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jerome Brownlee will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Mortuary and 10-11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choice.

OSWALD

Alpha L. Oswald, 89, Eldon, died Dec. 21, 1999, at Specialties Hospital, Tulsa.

She was born July 24, 1910, in Etterville, a daughter of Ira D. and Grace Templeton Long. She was married April 20, 1935, in Eldon, to Lee Roy Oswald, who died May 10, 1978.

She worked for Lenox Purse Factory, St. Louis, and was a member of Oak Street Church of Christ, Eldon.

Survivors include one nephew, Jack D. Long, Stillwater, Okla.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Oak Street Church. Bro. Tommie Crane will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon.

GRADEL

Mary Gradel, 98, Freeburg, died Dec. 23, 1999, at her home.

She was born June 12, 1901, in Rich Fountain, a daughter of Louis and Elizabeth Ruder Haller. She was married in Rich Fountain to George Gradel, who died March 20, 1969.

A homemaker, she was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg.

Survivors include: two sons, Eugene "Pistol" Gradel and Alfred "Bud" Gradel, both of Freeburg; two daughters, Irene Stegeman,  Jefferson City, and Marcella Gradel, Freeburg; one sister, Barbara Vernoilen, Freeburg; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Sunday at Holy Family Catholic Church. The Rev. Mike Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Saturday and 10-11:30 a.m. Sunday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.

Masses or memorials to Holy Family Church and School Memorial Fund are suggested.

NANDORY

Shirley Mae Nandory, 59,  Jefferson City, died Dec. 22, 1999, at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

Arrangements are incomplete at Buescher Memorial Home.

TOWLER

Helen Louise Towler, 81, Gravois Mills, died Dec. 24, 1999, at lake Ozark General Hospital, Osage Beach.

Arrangements are incomplete at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

MENTEER

Emma Menteer, 87,  Jefferson City, died Dec.. 23, 1999, at the Capital Health Care Nursing Home.

Arrangements are incomplete at Buescher Memorial Home.

CHAPMAN

Kathryn S. Chapman, 96,  Jefferson City, died Dec. 23, 1999, at the Oak View Living Center.

Arrangements are incomplete at Buescher Memorial Home.

BARKS

Ada Barks, 81, Eldon, died Dec. 24, 1999, at Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital.

Arrangements are incomplete at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

BRETTHORST

Helen H. Bretthorst, 86, Holts Summit, died Dec. 24, 1999, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born April 11, 1913, in Wainwright, a daughter of J. Anton and Ameila Koelling Sundermeyer. She was married Dec. 24, 1934, in  Jefferson City, to Herbert Otto Bretthorst, who died April 28, 1988.

She was a 4-H counselor, receiving 20 and 25-year pins for being a 4-H community leader. She served 40 years on the Democratic Central Committee. She was a member of the Central United Church of Christ.

She is survived by one sister, Mae Sundermeyer,  Jefferson City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen H. Buchholz will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthron Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Central United Church of Christ.

HARRISON

William Harrison, 73, Fulton, died Dec. 24, 1999, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

He was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Danboro, Pa., a son of John D. and Mary Beck Harrison. He was married in 1963 in Easton, Pa., to Dottie Skinner. He was married in 1981 in Stockertown, Pa., to Elaine Weaver, who survives.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a painter and interior decorator before retirement. He had lived in Stockerton.

Other survivors include: one son, Bill Harrison, Fulton; three daughters, Theresa Stelljes, Perry, Darenda Penton, Moberly, and Catrena Minor, Fulton; one brother, Raymond Harrison, Philipsburg, N.J.; and nine grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Wednesday in North Hampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Township, Penn..

Arrangements are under the direction of Debo Funeral Home.

NICHOLS

Ray S. Nichols, 82, Eldon, died Dec. 25, 1999, at his home.

He was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Eldon, a son of Robert R. and Frances Smith Nichols. He was married in 1942 to Evelyn Anne Carpenter, who died in 1966. He was married Jan. 9, 1969, in Miami, Okla., to Helen Comer, who survives at the home.

He attended grade school in Eldon and graduated in 1937 from high school in Strasburg.

He enlisted in the Marines in 1937 and served 31 years. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korea and Vietnam wars. He received the Purple Heart. He served as sergeant major with the 9th Marine Corps District, Kansas City, from 1965 to 1967.

He was a life member of Eldon VFW Post 2442, Amvets Post 108 and Fleet Reserve Association. He was a former member of the Marine Corps League. After retirement, he was a mail carrier and postal clerk at the Eldon Post Office.

Other survivors include: two sons, Duane R. Nichols,  Jefferson City, and Wayne R. Nichols, Jonesboro, Ark.; one daughter, Jean Sidebottom, Stover; one brother, Donald R. Nichols, Pebble Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren, two step grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Don Young will officiate. The remains were cremated.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to Lake Ozark Area Home Health and Hospice.

REHAGEN

Ida Angela Rehagen, 98, Linn, died Dec. 26, 1999, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born April 12, 1901, in Linn, a daughter of Henry and Catherine Mengwasser Mertens. She was married Nov. 20, 1923, in Linn, to John C. Rehagen, who died Feb. 18, 1965.

In 1980, she moved from Rich Fountain to Linn, where she was a member of St. George Parish. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Western-Catholic Union and St. Ann's Sodality, Rich Fountain. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: one son, George J. Rehagen, Osage Bend; three daughters, Henrietta Luecke, Popular Bluff, Agatha Maasen,  Jefferson City, and Lucy Lamb, Independence; one sister, Lucy Schaefer, Linn; 17 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Two sons, Elias Rehagen and Michael Rehagen, and two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, Rich Fountain. The Rev. Sylvester Bauer will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Church or St. George Church.

ROBERTSON

Alice "Nadine" Robertson, 76, California, died Dec. 26, 1999, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

She was born Aug. 5, 1923, near Enon, a daughter of Herman T. and Leona Anna Sauerhage Althoff. She was married May 28, 1942, in Olean, to Lee Roy Robertson, who survives at the home.

After graduation from Russellville High School in 1941, she worked as a casing inspector for the Small Arms Ammunition Plant, St. Louis. A homemaker, she co-owned the Coast to Coast Hardware Store for 15 years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Tel-Dorcas Sunday School Class of California. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church, Warrensburg, Russellville and Rock Enon. She was active in civic and community activities.

Other survivors include: one son, Mike Robertson, California; three daughters, Marilyn N. Rhoads, Houston, Texas , Janet L. Pasley, Lenexa, Kan., and Jennifer S. Maassen, Plattsmouth, Neb.; one brother, James "J.D." Althoff, California; two sisters, Laverne Payne and Gladys Scrivner, both of Russellville; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in California. The Rev. Greg Morrow and the Rev. Ivan Dameron will officiate. Burial will be in Enloe Cemetery, Russellville.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church-Nadine Robertson Memorial, 208 South Oak St., California, Mo. or the American Heart Association-Missouri Affiliate, 2600 I-70 Dr. N.W., Columbia, Mo. 65202.
