HERRON

Ted J. Herron, 79,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 14, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born April 20, 1920, in Joplin, a son of M.R. and Iva Alms Herron. He was married in 1944 in  Jefferson City to Reeda J. Marshall, who survives at the home.

A 1938 graduate of  Jefferson City High School, he attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and served in the Army during World War II.

He was executive director of the  Jefferson City Housing Authority from 1960 until his retirement in 1986. He was the longest-tenured executive director of a housing authority in the United States.

While in that post, he was instrumental in developing many housing and other improvement projects in  Jefferson City, including: Shikles Senior Center, Robert L. Hyder Apartments, Campus View Project, Dulle and Hamilton Towers, Morris-Edmonds Project, Capital West, Clarke Senior Center, downtown beautification, historic home restorations and the development of other day care, senior and community centers. During his tenure, the Housing Authority provided land for the Capitol Plaza Hotel and state parking lots and garage. He secured $104.3 million in federal commitments for the community.

He was a deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church; a member of the VFW, Roy Sone Post 1003; and a member and past officer of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials.

Other survivors include: two sons, Joe Herron, Springfield, and Marshall R. Herron, Sheffield Village, Ohio; one sister, Barbara Mitchem, Mesa, Ariz.; one brother, Harold R. Herron,  Jefferson City; and two grandchildren.

One granddaughter preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. R.W. Beard will officiate. Graveside services and entombment with military honors will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Freeman Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the Senior Ministry at First Presbyterian Church.

LAUF

Barbara Suella Lauf, 72, New Bloomfield, died Jan. 13, 2000, at the Friendship House.

She was born March 25, 1927, in Souder, a daughter of Granville and Mabel Gardner Prock. She was married in March 1944, to Ralph Luna Parker, who died in 1950. She was married in April 1951 to Richard Lee Lauf, who survives at the home.

A graduate of Gainesville High School, she owned several hair styling salons and sold real estate in  Jefferson City and Holts Summit. She attended First Christian Church,  Jefferson City.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Sherry Lauf, Seattle, and Gina Lauf, Palm Bay, Fla.; one son, Richard Pete Lauf,  Jefferson City; three brothers, Rondo Prock, Merl Prock and Herman Prock, all of Ava; three sisters, Norma Harris, Wichita, Kan., Norene Nay, Hutchinson, Kan., and Gratie Shinpaugh, Houston; and five grandchildren.

One son, Randall Parker, died June 14, 1959.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church,  Jefferson City. Her brother-in-law, Merle "Uncle Bones" Nay, will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to the Friendship House, 601 E. High St.

Arrangements are under the direction of Buescher Memorial Home.

MEREDITH

Cora Anna Meredith, 104, Eldon, died Jan. 14, 2000, at Eldon Healthcare.

She was born June 9, 1895, in Iberia, a daughter of Andrew J. and Mary Jane Thomas Keeth. She was married in Iberia to James Clint Meredith, who died July 26, 1974.

A homemaker, she was a member of Blue Springs Church, Eldon.

Survivors include: three daughters, Waunetta Brown, St. Charles, and Pauline Stark and Geneva Meredith, both of Eldon; one son, Gail Meredith, Centralia; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. John Shifflet will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today.

FARRELL

Donna J. Farrell, 54, Olean, died Jan. 14, 2000, at her home.

She was born Jan. 4, 1946, in Decatur, Ill., a daughter of Donald Geddes and Leota Harlin. Her father survives in Decatur; her mother survives in Versailles.

She was married Dec. 23, 1964, in Altus, Okla., to Daniel Farrell, who survives at the home.

She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eldon.

Other survivors include: two sons, Richard Farrell, Kansas City, and James Farrell, Olean; four sisters, Mary Ellen Carnahan, Denise Simmons and Karen Hill, all of Versailles, and Lavon Pickett, Bloomington, Ill.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. James J. O'Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery, Olean.

Visitation will be from 1:30-4 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon, with a prayer service at 1:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Columbia.

MELLOWAY

Carl L. "Pete" Melloway, 59,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 14, 2000, at his home.

He was born April 19, 1940, in Providence, a son of Robert L. and Ruth Marie Melloway. His mother, Ruth Marie Sparks, survives in Columbia. He was married Aug. 18, 1963, in Boonville, to Merry Jean Buford, who survives at the home.

He attended Boone County schools. He worked at Midwest Automotive, Boonville, MFA, both in Columbia and  Jefferson City, and Jim Lewis Tire and Wheel. He was a member of the Lutheran church.

Other survivors include: one son, Carl Dale Melloway,  Jefferson City; one half brother, Robert Melloway,  Jefferson City; and one half sister, Dorothy L. "Debbie" Hines, Dallas.

Services will be private.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Arrangements are under the direction of Buescher Memorial Home.

LEWIS

Manuel H. Lewis, 88,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 14, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born May 8, 1911, in St. Charles, a son of John and Susie Carter Lewis. He was married June 8, 1940, in  Jefferson City, to Mildred Berniece Nevins, who survives at the home.

He was a chauffeur for the Goshorn-Weldon family for over 40 years. He was a member, deacon and trustee of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, Holts Summit, where he was treasurer of the building fund.

Other survivors include: two sons, Marvin Lewis,  Jefferson City, and Maurice Lewis, Cedar City; two granddaughters and one great-grandson.

One son, Taylor Lewis, died May 15, 1957.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. George Coleman and the Rev. Marion Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Chapel Cemetery, Guthrie.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Vernon or Oak Chapel building funds.

LOGAN

Emma Faye Logan, 67,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 13, 2000, at her home.

She was born Jan. 1, 1933, in Tallahatchie County, Miss., a daughter of James D. and Lola May Hughes Keeton. She was married in the state of Mississippi to Morris Dean Logan Sr., who died Feb. 3, 1990.

She attended schools in Tallahatchie County and was a homemaker.

Survivors include: two sons, Morris Dean Logan Jr.,  Jefferson City, and James Adam Logan, Parchman, Miss.; two sisters, Lena Thatch, Olive Branch, Miss., and Florence Rippee, Charleston, Miss.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at National Funeral Home, Grenada, Miss. The Rev. Norris Corley will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Oxberry, Miss.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Buescher Memorial Home.

HARRIS

Russell "Max" Harris, 77, Gravois Mills, died Jan. 14, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Montour, Iowa, a son of Russell and Mary Vana Harris. He was married April 8, 1946, to Floralie McKinstry, who survives at the home.

He was a retired rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach and the Hurricane Deck Lions Club.

Other survivors include: one son, Mark Thomas Harris, Overland Park, Kan.; one daughter, Melinda Leitch, Lincoln Park, Mich.; and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kent Memorial Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jim Trutwin will officiate. Burial will be in Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery, Laurie.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to Kent Memorial Lutheran Church.

HENLEY

Nolan W. Henley, 80, California, died Jan. 15, 2000, at California Care Center.

He was born Sept. 6, 1919, in  Jefferson City, a son of Ira S. and Bertha M. Jacobs Henley. He was married Jan. 20, 1945, in New York City, to Lillian Killough, who survives at the home.

He was a Navy veteran, serving from 1940 until his retirement in 1952. He worked for Aeronautical Chart and Information Center, St. Louis, for 18 years. He was a member of California United Church of Christ and a deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church, St. Louis.

He was a member of California VFW Post 4345, The 20 Club, California, and the USS Colorado Alumni Association, Denver. He coached Little League Baseball in Maryland Heights.

Other survivors include: one son, William N. Henley, Cortez, Colo.; two daughters, Mary Collins, Davenport, Iowa, and Katherine Schwarz, Manor, Texas ; four brothers, John Dalton Henley, Springfield, Roscoe Henley, California, Ira S. Henley Jr., Willard, and B.B. Henley, Higginsville; four sisters, Ruby Lehman and Betty J. Dummermuth, both of California, Marguerite Hutchison, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Bonnie Strickfaden, Hazelwood; two grandchildren and three step grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Gary Schulte will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens,  Jefferson City.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, with VFW services at 7:30 p.m.
