BUNCH

William J. "Bill" Bunch, 61,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 4, 2000, at his home.

He was born Sept. 15, 1938, in Luystown, a son of Buell C. and Clara C. Gelven Bunch. He was married March 8, 1984, in Union, to Lela Margaret Kosteck, who survives at the home.

He received his associate's degree in drafting from Linn State Technical College, his bachelor's degree from Tarkio College and his master's degree from Lincoln University. He served in the Army Reserves.

He was employed for more than 30 years at Linn State Technical College, as a drafting instructor, placement coordinator, admissions counselor, vice president of student services and interim president for one year. Prior to that, he was employed at McGraw-Edison for 10 years.

He was president of the Missouri Association of Career and Technical Education.

Other survivors include: three sons, Joe Bunch, Linn, Jason Ritter, Columbia, and Benjamin Ritter,  Jefferson City; one sister, Darlene M. Nilges, Loose Creek; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church, Loose Creek. The Rev. Gregory Meystrik will officiate. Private burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation also will be from 5:30-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

BYNAN

James J. Bynan, 68, Sunrise Beach, died Feb. 4, 2000, at his home.

He was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area, where he attended Rockhurst High School and College. After serving three years in the Air National Guard, he was a pilot with Braniff Airlines from 1957 to 1967.

He then started a successful real estate development company, developing many projects in Kansas City, Denver, Albuquerque, Atlanta and the Lake of the Ozarks until his retirement.

Survivors include: his wife, Joan; three daughters, Linda Bynan, Kansas City, Mary Catherine Bynan, Chicago, and Paula Bynan, Seattle; one son, Vincent Bynan, Kansas City; and two sisters, Mary Virginia Richter and Joanne Mattison, both of Leawood, Kan.

Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Visitation Church, 51st and Main in Kansas City.

Visitation will be from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Margaret's Catholic Church Building Fund, 1134 N.E. Birchwood Place, Lee's Summit, Mo. 64086.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

COFFMAN

Nellie I. Coffman, 95, Eldon, died Feb. 5, 2000, at Eldon Healthcare.

She was born July 22, 1904, in Eldon, a daughter of Spairl and Zona Landrum Kelsay. She was married April 28, 1923, in Tuscumbia, to Orville Coffman, who died Feb. 8, 1990.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Eldon.

Survivors include: one daughter, Avonell Coffman, Eldon; and one sister, Betty Lou Russell, Overland Park, Kan.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Randall Bunch will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Monday.

DIEHL

George E. Diehl, 74, Tipton, died Feb. 3, 2000, in Silex.

He was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Alamosa, Colo., a son of Paul and Ida M. Koetting Diehl.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tipton.

Survivors include: one brother, John Diehl, St. Charles; and three sisters, Margaret Bunker, Gustine, Calif., Clara Orscheln, Tipton, and Mary Klein, Silex.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at St. Andrew Catholic Church. The Rev. Henry Reichert will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Andrew Catholic School.

Arrangements are under the direction of Conn Funeral Home, Tipton.

GORDON

William R. Gordon, 73, Holts Summit, died Feb. 5, 2000, at his home.

He was born April 30, 1926, in Centertown, a son of Walter and Annie Buckner Gordon. He was married Feb. 4, 1946, in Sturgeon, to Alma Ruth Schnuth, who died Feb. 28, 1997.

He served in the Navy during World War II. He was employed as a carpenter with Southern Cross Lumber Co. for 15 years prior to retiring in 1985.

Survivors include: one son, Dennis D. Gordon, Troy; one sister, Patty Taft, Centralia; one brother, Robert Gordon, Sturgeon; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. David Hartgrove will officiate. Burial will be in Link Cemetery, Wainwright.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of  Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri.

HARRIS

William Tyre "Tyke" Harris, 45, Festus, died Jan. 30, 2000, at his sister's home in Wentzville.

He was born Sept. 22, 1954, in Fulton, a son of John C. and Mary Stahr Harris, who survive.

He attended Fulton Public Schools and Wartburg College in Wartburg, Iowa, and graduated from Westminster College with a bachelor's degree in economics. He received a master of divinity degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Austin, Texas , and was ordained to the Ministry of the Word in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) by the Presbytery of Missouri Union in 1985.

He was pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Festus. He previously had been a chaplain at Texas hospitals and a Florida hospice program.

For four years following graduation from Westminster, he was employed at The Callaway Bank in Fulton.

His activities in Festus included membership in the Twin Cities Ministerial Alliance and Lectionary Group, the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy and the Singles Group at the Methodist Church. He also served as chaplain and a member of the Ethics Committee at  Jefferson Memorial Hospital.

Other survivors include: a twin sister, Martha Overton Harris,  Jefferson City; a sister, Mary Stahr Harris Powers, Wentzville; and a brother, John Cannon Harris Jr., Fulton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Fulton, and at 3 p.m. Feb. 20 at First Presbyterian Church, Festus.

Memorials are suggested to either church or the  Jefferson Memorial Cancer Center Resource Room in Festus.

LEHMAN

George W. Lehman, 83, St. David, Ariz., formerly of California, Mo., died Jan. 16, 2000, at Sunrise Hospital, Las Vegas.

He was born Oct. 6, 1916, in Fortuna, a son of David W. and Rose Estell Hays Lehman. He was married to Rita Caldwell, who preceded him in death. He was married to Marjorian McKenna, who died Jan. 25, 1993.

He was a 1935 graduate of California High School. He owned and operated Lehman Neon Sign Co. and then owned a crane business, contracting with the state of Indiana.

Survivors include: one sister, Pauline Barnett, California; two brothers, David J. Lehman and Vernon E. Lehman, both of California; and one granddaughter.

One daughter, Beth Ann Medland, died in 1987.

Private graveside services will be later in the Masonic Cemetery, California.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.

NEWTON

Mary E. Newton, 94, Gravois Mills, died Feb. 4, 2000, at Golden Age Living Center, Stover.

She was born Nov. 9, 1905, in Kansas City, a daughter of Harry J. and Lottie R. Vogt Vail. She was married in August 1929 to Marion L. Newton, who died May 29, 1973.

She was a retired head telephone operator for the Jones Store Co. in Kansas City. She was a member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie and the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

Survivors include: one daughter, Martha M. Covey, Versailles; and three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. William C. Johnson will officiate. Cremation will follow.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church.

RACKERS

Mason Robert Rackers, infant son of Chad Rackers and Melissa Rains, was stillborn Feb. 3, 2000, at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics. His parents survive in  Jefferson City.

Other survivors include: one brother, Shane Rackers of  Jefferson City; paternal grandparents, Mike and Pam Rackers, Russellville; maternal grandparents, Anita Rains,  Jefferson City, and Dwight Rains, Taos; paternal great-grandmother, Arletta Wiser, Russellville; paternal great-grandparents, Clete and Corky Rackers,  Jefferson City; maternal great-grandmothers, Betty Elliott, Indianapolis, and Muriel Rains,  Jefferson City; and paternal great-great-grandmother, Carmen Blackburn, Russellville.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Crane will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to the Genetics Department at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics or the charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
