SHELTON

Ethelyn Fay Shelton, 75, Iberia, died Feb. 3, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Granite City, Ill.

She was born Sept. 19, 1924, in Lowry City, a daughter of Thomas J. and Ethel Irene Hinkle Duvall. She was married Feb. 12, 1961, in Lebanon, to Minor Newhart, who died March 26, 1978. She was married Oct. 2, 1982, near Iberia, to Walter Shelton, who died April 4, 1996.

She was a 1942 graduate of Lowry City High School. She and Minor owned and operated Newhart Cafe in Iberia from 1961 to 1975. She worked at the Iberia MFA.

She was a member of Brays Advent Christian Church, where she was treasurer and a member of the Women's Home Foreign Mission Society and the Women's Circle. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Iberia VFW Post 6167 and the Iberia American Legion Post 105.

Survivors include: one sister, Ermalee Calvo, Waynesville; and three brothers, Irvin DuVall, Valpariaso, Fla., Bobby Joe Duvall, Topeka, Kan., and Thomas DuVall, Strafford.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Earl Skidds will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery near Iberia.

Memorials are suggested to the Union Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.

SMITH

Jamie Ryan Smith, 22, Holts Summit, died Feb. 4, 2000, at Phelps County Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in a bull-riding accident.

He was born Aug. 25, 1977, in  Jefferson City. He was married July 25, 1998, in  Jefferson City, to Tammy Elaine McClung, who survives at the home.

He was a 1995 graduate of Pawnee High School in Pawnee, Ill. He worked as a truss builder at Mid America Truss and had worked for Bourn Feed in Columbia.

He was a member of the Bull Riders of America.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Brittany Sierra Smith, of the home; one sister, Nichole Smith, Las Vegas; his mother and stepfather, Donna and Stephen Brunk,  Jefferson City; his father and stepmother, Michael and Michelle Smith, Brazito; maternal grandparents, Joe and Kay Twehous,  Jefferson City; paternal grandparents, George and Joyce Smith, Rolla; and paternal great-grandmother, Myrtle Sewell, Bland.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe Skiles will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the Brittany Sierra Smith Educational Fund, c/o Central Bank, 155 Northstar Drive, Holts Summit, Mo. 65043.

STRATMAN

Alphonse F. Stratman, 85, Vienna, died Feb. 4, 2000, in  Jefferson City.

He was born Jan. 10, 1915, in Vienna, a son of Henry J. and Pauline Richter Stratman. He was married May 5, 1946, in Argyle, to Martha Brunnert, who survives at the home.

He was a lifelong resident and farmer and a member of the Visitation Catholic Church in Vienna. He belonged to the Maries County NFO, MFA and the Vienna American Legion and had been active with the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, as well as other local civic organizations and causes.

Other survivors include: four daughters, Suzanne Gregory, St. Louis, Rebecca Honse, New Bloomfield, Joann Mathis, High Ridge, and Paula Sansoucie, Vienna; one son, Victor Stratman, Argyle; two brothers, the Rev. Ambrose Stratman, Hillsboro, and William Stratman, Vienna; and three sisters, Agnes Schwartze, Argyle, Margaret Fennewald, Martinsburg, and Florentine Brooks, Kennett.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Visitation Catholic Church. The Rev. Ambrose Stratman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Kordes Funeral Home, Vienna, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

VAN POOL

Claud F. "Sparky" Van Pool, 88,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 5, 2000, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Nov. 28, 1911, near Russellville, a son of John H. and Clemma Evelyn Binkley Van Pool.

An Air Force veteran of World War II, he worked for the Army Civil Corps of Engineers as a driller for 29 1/2 years until his retirement. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include: one son, Douglas Van Pool,  Jefferson City; two daughters, Claudia Pawley, Tulsa, Okla., and Diana Schaffner, Laguna Nigel, Calif.; two sisters, Helen Schneider,  Jefferson City, and Jerene Oswald, Russellville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. John Hobratschk will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund or Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1003 to help POWs and MIAs.

WHITTLE

Michael Ray Whittle, infant son of Shawn Michael and Jessica Dawn Perkins Whittle, was stillborn Feb. 4, 2000, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia. His parents survive in Iberia.

Other survivors include: paternal grandparents, Michael and Beth Whittle, Iberia; maternal grandparents, Herbert and Sydney Perkins, Iberia; paternal great-grandparents, Gene and Beryl Whittle and G.R. and Jean Keeth, all of Iberia; and maternal great-grandmother, Jessie Lam, Dixon.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Brays Cemetery near Iberia. The Rev. Glen Golden will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia.

WOODS

Frank Elbert "Woody" Woods, 69, New Bloomfield, died Feb. 4, 2000, at Willowcreek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Belleville, Ill.

He was born Aug. 13, 1930, in Hartsburg, a son of Albert and Eugenie Perry Brown Woods. He was married to Ruth Eloise Cross, who died Jan. 11, 1998.

He was educated in Callaway County and the  Jefferson City public schools. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was a farmer and then worked as a truck driver for Brown Yancey Trucking Line for more than 20 years. He also was employed by the New Bloomfield School District in building maintenance and for the Garland and Virgil Helms Stables.

He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one stepson, Bill McDowell, New Bloomfield; two brothers, O. Otis Woods,  Jefferson City, and Francis Albert Woods, Fulton; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 6 p.m. today at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Michael Quinn will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Boone County.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Association.

LUADZERS

Daniel Joseph Luadzers, 32, Holts Summit, died Feb. 5, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born July 2, 1967, in  Jefferson City, a son of Gary W. and Eleanor Mary Baumhoer Luadzers. His mother survives in St. Martins.

He was a 1986 graduate of  Jefferson City High School. He was employed as a truck driver with Steen & Sons Trucking, Ashland; J & N Trucking, Mount Pleasant, Iowa; and Sysco Foods Inc., Olathe, Kan.

Other survivors include: his fiancee, Paula J. Schulte, Holts Summit; one son, Daniel J. Luadzers Jr., of the home; four daughters, Stephanie D. Luadzers, Tiffine A. Luadzers, Danyelle M. Schulte and Destinee R. Schulte, all of the home; one brother, Thomas D. Luadzers,  Jefferson City; one sister, Tricia A. Luadzers,  Jefferson City; and paternal grandfather Archie E. Luadzers,  Jefferson City.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at St. Martin Catholic Church. The Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Luadzers Educational Fund for his children.

ATKINSON

Helen B. Atkinson, 82, Tuscumbia, died Feb. 5, 2000, at Miller County Care Center, Tuscumbia.

She was born June 26, 1917, in Olean, a daughter of C.E. and Mettie Hader Serl. She was married May 29, 1937, in Tuscumbia, to Max H. Atkinson, who died July 29, 1990.

She worked at Glaser Brothers Pant Factory, Eldon. She was a lifelong member of Mount Herman Baptist Church, where she was pianist for more than 50 years. She also was a Sunday School teacher and church clerk. She was a member of Mount Herman Homemakers Club and Heart of America Walking Horse Association.

Survivors include: one daughter, Carolyn Kempker, Eldon; two sisters, Jessie Haynes,  Jefferson City, and Ruby Jobe, Olean; one brother, Charles Serl, Stewartsville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

One son, Curtis Atkinson, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Herman Baptist Church, Olean. The Rev. Jay Quinn will officiate. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery, Olean.

Visitation will be from 3:30-7:30 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

Memorials are suggested to Mount Herman Baptist Church.

BAUER

Celestine Bauer, 100, Brinktown, died Feb. 5, 2000, at Maries Manor Health Care Center, Vienna.

She was born Feb. 15, 1899, in Brinktown, a daughter of Casper and Elizabeth Wiegers Winkelmann. She was married Feb. 8, 1921, in Brinktown, to Herman Bauer, who died Sept. 24, 1969.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Brinktown, St. Ann's Sodality and Brinktown Ladies Club.

Survivors include: six sons, Joseph Bauer and Martin Bauer, both of Brinktown, Anthony Bauer,  Jefferson City; John Bauer, St. Louis, Norbert Bauer, Kansas City, and Ralph Bauer, Henley; six daughters, Elizabeth Wester and Mary Gansmann, both of St. Louis, Theresa Koerber, Pinedale, Mont., Agnes LaBruyere, Brinktown, Odelia Kristof, Phoenix, and Gertrude Mehlick, Chesterfield; one sister, Sister Alex LeClere Winkelmann, Chatawa, Miss.; 35 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Two grandsons preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church. The Rev. John Schmitz will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to Masses.
