BECKER

Arbrey Charles "Hop" Becker, 84,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 6, 2000, at Oak View Living Center.

He was born Aug. 18, 1915, in Steedman, a son of Alvin T. and Stella Quick Becker. He was married June 14, 1938, in  Jefferson City, to Zarabelle Agatha Bret, who died Oct. 27, 1998.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He co-owned and co-operated Becker's Market from 1938 to 1947, and Becker Coal Co. from 1947 to 1955. He was a driver for Railway Express from 1955 to 1974, and worked as a security guard for the Missouri National Guard from 1974 to 1994.

He was a member of American Legion Post 5 and a past volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He was an early member of the  Jefferson City Redbirds Baseball Club.

Survivors include: one son, Alan Becker,  Jefferson City; three daughters, Beverly Carrender, Independence, Charlotte Veit,  Jefferson City, and Mary Poepsel, Columbia; two sisters, Mildred Goff and Nadine Coleman, both of  Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels or to a charity of the donor's choice.

COPELAND

Shirley D. Copeland, 62, Dixon, died Feb. 5, 2000, in  Jefferson City.

She was born Dec. 31, 1937, in Miller County, a daughter of Lawrence and Sarah Dake Wilson. She was married April 16, 1955, in Iberia, to Burl Copeland, who survives at the home.

A 1955 graduate of Iberia High School, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Campground Christian Church, near Van Cleve.

Other survivors include: four sons, Kerry Copeland and Keith Copeland, both of Dixon, and Kenneth Copeland and Kelly Copeland, both of  Jefferson City; two sisters, Irene Fitzgerald, Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Maxine Means, Meta; one brother, Marvin Dake, Iberia; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Manuel Seaton will officiate. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery, near Iberia.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Campground Christian Church.

GARTH

William Grant Garth, 66, Owensville, died Feb. 6, 2000, at his home.

He was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Des Arc, Ark., a son of Robert A. and Essie Smith Garth. He was married Nov. 5, 1978, in LaMonte, to Clarice M. Cochran, who survives at the home.

A veteran of the Korean War, he was a dispatcher for a trucking company.

Other survivors include: three sons, Jeffery "Buster" Garth and Michael Garth, both of Mount Sterling, and Craig Garth, Owensville; two daughters, Jana Albers, Berger, and Joni Garth, Holts Summit; three brothers, Thomas Wallace, Michael Wallace and Sherman Wallace; two sisters, Nancy Meyers and Shirley Kaiser; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pin Oak Baptist Church, Mount Sterling. Glen Duncan will officiate. The remains were cremated. Burial will be in Useful Cemetery, Useful.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gottenstroeter Funeral Home, Owensville.

KNIPP

Mary Lucille Knipp, 91, Tipton, died Feb. 6, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Sept. 13, 1908, in Cotton, a daughter of Henry D. and Nellie Shirley Doerner. She was married Feb. 9, 1937, in Tipton, to Herman W. Knipp, who died Nov. 13, 1997.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, Tipton, the Altar Society and the Cross Lane Club, Tipton.

Survivors include: one son, Edwin Dean Knipp, Tipton; one daughter, Peggy Anne Slaughter, Columbia; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrews Catholic Church. The Rev. Henry Reichert will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Conn Funeral Home, Tipton, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

WRIGHT

Vergie Catherine Groff Wright, 86, Eldon, formerly of  Jefferson City, died Feb. 4, 2000, at Lake Ozark Retirement Center, Lake Ozark.

She was born July 6, 1913, in Iberia, a daughter of Benjamin T. and Isa Ramsey Groff. She was married Dec. 1, 1940, in Iberia, to John Calvin Wright II, who died Oct. 20, 1953.

A graduate of Iberia High School and Iberia Academy, she earned a degree as a registered nurse from the Washington University School of Nursing. She was head nurse of the surgical unit at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, and worked as a neurological scrub nurse in Chicago. She also worked at St. Marys Health Center.

In 1942, she became co-owner of Kilgore Photography Studio, Eldon, which became Wright Studio. She became sole proprietor in 1953, and worked in the studio until 1986. She won awards for her photography, including Master Photography from the Professional Photography Association of America.

Survivors include: one son, John Calvin Wright III, Eldon; one daughter, Elizabeth Wright Kirk,  Jefferson City; one brother, Robert Groff, Iberia; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Eldon. The Rev. Randall Bunch will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Bureau of the Blind.

STRASSNER

Louis Strassner, 83, Iberia, died Feb. 7, 2000, at Maries Manor Health Care Center, Vienna.

He was born July 19, 1916, in St. Louis, a son of Harry and Anna Kansteiner Strassner. He was married May 29, 1940, in Steelville, to Rose Pringle, who survives at the home.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Louis. He was a supervisor in logistical support for the United States Defense Department in St. Louis for 30 years, retiring in 1977. A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he moved to Iberia in 1994.

Other survivors include: one son, Louis R. Strassner, Brinktown; one daughter, Janine Potrzeboski, Iberia; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

One grandson preceded him in death.

Services will be at a later date. Burial will be in  Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

Arrangements are under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.

MARTIN

Services were today for Dorothy Lee Martin, 67, Black, who died Feb. 5, 2000.

Survivors include: two sons, the Rev. Kenny Martin, California, and Ronnie Martin, Viburnum; one brother, Charles Nelson, Troy; three sisters, Zelma Phillips, Ferguson, Linda Asher, Bixby, and Alma Gantney, St. Charles; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were at Spencer Funeral Home, Salem. Burial was in Myers Cemetery, Oates.

REED

Louise May Reed, 69, Camdenton, died Feb. 5, 2000, at her home.

She was born Aug. 12, 1930, in Washington , D.C., a daughter of Louis T. and Florence L. Clementson Benson. She was married Oct. 11, 1983, in Camdenton, to Ned Reed, who survives at the home.

A retired United States government employee, she lived in the Lake area for the past 16 years. She was a member of New Testament Christian Church.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Janice Reed, Independence; one son, James Reed, Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Shirley Lytten, Los Alamos, N.M.; and two grandsons.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Allee-Reed Funeral Home, Camdenton. The Rev. Keith Graves will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville.

Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday.

REED

Jon Clyde Reed, 21, Osage Beach, died Sunday at his home.

He was born Oct. 25, 1978, in St. Louis, a son of Clyde and Patricia Seithel Reed, who survive in Osage Beach.

He was a painter.

Other survivors include: five brothers, Steve Heidger, Vienna, Tom Heidger, Chesterfield, Greg Reed, Linn Creek, Chris Reed, Osage Beach, and Todd Reed, Takoma, Wash.; two sisters, Karen Menke, New Haven, and Kelly Reed, Osage Beach.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach. The Rev. Michael Wilbers will officiate. Burial will be in Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osage Beach.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the Dream Factory, Lake Ozark Chapter, P.O. Box 719, Osage Beach, Mo. 65065.

GARTH

William Grant Garth, 66, Owensville, died Feb. 6, 2000, at his home.
