CARKER
Margaret Johanna "Margie" Carker, 79, Jefferson City, died Feb. 8, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born March 28, 1920, in Jefferson City, a daughter of John H. and Mary Augusta Watts Wolken. She was married May 7, 1941, in Fayette, to Carl Lewis Carker, who died June 24, 1979.
She attended Moreau Bend School and Immaculate Conception Catholic School. A homemaker, she worked at McGraw Edison for 25 years until her retirement.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Ann's Sodality and the Legion of Mary. She was a member of AARP.
Survivors include: one son, Richard John Carker, Wylie, Texas ; one daughter, Mary Florence Porting, Jefferson City; two sisters, Helen McNew, Jefferson City, and Theodora Stockman, Hollywood, Calif.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Tim Tatro will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Buescher Memorial Home, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to St. Ann's Sodality or the American Heart Association.
FABER
Michelle Rene Snyder Faber, 26, Sunrise Beach, died Feb. 7, 2000, near her home.
She was born June 19, 1973, in Kansas City, a daughter of George W. Jr. and Doris Watson Snyder. Her parents survive in Gravois Mills.
She graduated from Camdenton High School in 1991. She was a cake decorator at Kerr's Country Mart, Greenview, and a member of the Community Christian Church, Camdenton.
Other survivors include: one brother, Michael Alan Snyder, Gravois Mills; her paternal grandfather, George W. Snyder Sr., Sunrise Beach; and her maternal grandmother, Martha Watson, Springfield.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Community Christian Church. The Rev. Tracy A. Carroll will officiate. Burial will be in Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery, Laurie.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.
Memorials are suggested to the Community Christian Church.
GOWIN
Francis S. Gowin, 85, Fulton, died Feb. 9, 2000, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia.
He was born Jan. 29, 1915, in Minot, N.D., a son of Kersey and Sarah Kimbell Gowin. He was married May 29, 1937, in Fulton, to Margaret Vaughn, who died Nov. 27, 1998.
An Army veteran of World War II, he received the Purple Heart. He worked at Fulton State Hospital, retiring in 1977. He was a member of First Christian Church, Fulton, DAV Auxiliary, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 2657, Fulton.
Survivors include: one son, Terry Gowin, Whitewater, Kan.; one daughter, Marsha Strope, St. Thomas; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Raymond McCallister, the Rev. Raymond Dunlap and the Rev. Gary Garrett will officiate. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday.
Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church.
TAGGART
Bernice K. Taggart, 89, Jefferson City, died Feb. 10, 2000, at Oakview Living Center, Jefferson City.
She was born Sept. 23, 1910, in Marion, a daughter of Kelly C. and Katherine Raithel Garnett. She was married in January 1930, in Cairo, Ill., to Curtis A. Taggart, who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Jefferson City High School, and was a supervisor and keypunch operator for Employment Security. A former California resident, she was a member of First Baptist Church, California, and a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star, California Chapter 521. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: four sons, Curtis A. Taggart, Jefferson City, Kelly E. Taggart, Centertown, John D. Taggart, Gardner, Kan., and Keith L. Taggart, Lebanon; one brother, Bertram Francis, Fort Myers, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
One son, Ronald G. Taggart, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Greg Morrow will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope Baptist Cemetery, Marion.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today, with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m.

BURNS
Ruben A. Burns, 71, Camdenton, died Feb. 9, 2000, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.
He was born May 7, 1928, in Camden County, a son of John W. and Minnie Allen Burns. He was married in Kalamazoo, Mich., to Elna Likes, who died May 14, 1989.
He had lived in Michigan and was a machinist with Hatman-Preb Manufacturing Company before retiring in 1989 and returning to Camden County. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union.
Survivors include: one son, Ruben Dale Burns, Camdenton; one daughter, Brenda Crain, Camdenton; one brother, Floyd Burns, Camdenton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Allee-Reed Funeral Home, Camdenton. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, near Eldridge.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.
DAHLIN
Services were Tuesday for Hattie M. Dahlin, 86, Kansas City, formerly of Meta, who died Feb. 4, 2000, at St. Joseph's Health Center, Kansas City.
She was born Nov. 13, 1913, in Meta, a daughter of Frank A. and Catherine Strope Loethen. She was married Sept. 27, 1947, in Kansas City, to Carl Dahlin, who preceded her in death.
A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include one brother, Ray Loethen, Kansas City, and one sister, Loretta Kemna, St. Elizabeth.
Services were at Christ the King Catholic Church, Kansas City.
Arrangements were under the direction of Muehlebach Funeral Home, Kansas City.
DEATON
James G. "Jim" Deaton, 58, Hartsburg, died Feb. 10, 2000, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Moniteau County.
He was born Sept. 10, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of John G. and Ada L. Deaton. He was married Sept. 7, 1985, in Columbia, to Miriam L. McLeland, who survives at the home.
An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was employed as a truck driver by MFA Agri Services. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Jefferson City.
Other survivors include: two sons, James G. Deaton II, Des Moines, and Dustin McLeland, Ashland; two daughters, Twyna Schall, Reynolds, Iowa, and Jennifer Deaton Mack, Des Moines; three brothers, Jack Deaton, John Deaton and Jeffrey Deaton, all of Des Moines; four sisters, Joan Deaton, Linda Jefferson, Sharon Deaton and Janet Deaton, all of Des Moines; and four grandsons.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church, Jefferson City. The Rev. Lowell Perkins will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Hartsburg.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Monday at the church.

DEEKEN
Sr. Mary Helen Louise Deeken, FSM, 88, Richmond Heights, formerly of Argyle, died Feb. 9, 2000, at St. Mary of the Angels Convent of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary, Richmond Heights.
She was born Anna Lucille Deeken on Aug. 25, 1911, in Argyle, a daughter of John C. and Regina Anna Wieberg Deeken.
She joined the Franciscan Sisters of Mary in 1932, and professed her final vows in 1938. She received a certificate of nursing from St. Mary's, Madison, Wis., in 1944; a bachelor's degree in nursing from St. Louis University in 1957; and a master's degree in hospital administration from St. Louis University in 1960.
She worked at St. Mary's Health Center, St. Louis, as a staff supervisor, supervisor in obstetrics, nursing service personnel, central supply supervisor, assistant administrator and nursing service director.
She also worked at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, St. Louis, as an administrator and assistant executive director. She was an operating room supervisor at St. Eugene Community Hospital, Dillon, S.C., and an administrator at St. Francis Hospital and Health Center, Blue Island, Ill. She was a part-time receptionist at the Central Office and SSM Data Center.
She retired in 1985.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Angels Convent Chapel, Richmond Heights. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Louis.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with a wake service at 7 p.m.

KITCHELL
Grace M. Kitchell, 80, El Dorado Springs, formerly of California, died Feb. 10, 2000, in El Dorado Springs.
She was born April 16, 1919, near Clarksburg, a daughter of Henry and Geneva Gabriel Schlup. She was married Sept. 5, 1937, in Clarksburg, to Charles K. Kitchell, who died Feb. 14, 1991.
She attended California High School. She was a seamstress, floor lady, and worked in the cutting room at California Jacket Factory.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, California, the California Retirees Club, Salem Baptist Quilters Group and the Sunshine Extension Club.
Survivors include: four daughters, Martha Snyder, Hesperia, Calif., Gerry Sue Renfrow, Strafford, Linda Brizendine, El Dorado Springs, and Diane Gunnerson, California; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
One granddaughter preceded her in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Ivan Dameron will officiate. Burial will be in Hickman Cemetery, near Clarksburg.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.
