LITER

James Louis Liter, 64, Iberia, died March 2, 2000, at his home.

He was born Oct. 9, 1935, in Paris, Ky., a son of James W. and Mary Louise Patterson Liter. He was married Dec. 27, 1979, in Lexington, Ky., to Mary Carolyn Hall Heaton, who survives at the home.

He was a graduate of Bourbon High School, Paris, Ky., and attended the University of Kentucky. A Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he lived in Fairbanks, Alaska, until his retirement in 1990.

He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church and a lifetime member of Crocker VFW Post 4956.

Other survivors include: one son, Timothy Liter, Phoenix; one stepson, William Heaton, Versailles, Ky.; one stepdaughter, Sarah Auvenshine, Paris, Ky.; one brother, Robert A. Liter, Paris, Ky.; and three step grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Stan Way will officiate.

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.

MUTERT

Elmer William Mutert, 78,  Jefferson City, died March 2, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Marthasville, a son of Florence and Ella Timmerberg Mutert. He was married June 1, 1946, to Pearl Driemeyer, who died Oct. 10, 1970. He was married Sept. 25, 1976, in  Jefferson City, to Dorothy Knapheide, who survives at the home.

He was an auto mechanic and had owned and operated Mutert Ford, Warrenton, for 15 years. He later worked for the state as a chief auditor in the Department of Public Safety, Division of Liquor Control. He was retired. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Washington , Eagles and Central United Church of Christ.

Survivors include: one son, Gary Mutert, Holts Summit; one stepson, William Starfelt, Petaluma, Calif.; one daughter, Sharon Mays, Engelwood, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Judith Ann Neely, Austin, Texas ; one brother, Floyd Mutert, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; three grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lichtenberg-Martin Funeral Home, Marthasville. The Rev. Stephen Buchholz will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Marthasville.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to Central United Church of Christ,  Jefferson City.

CAHILL

Bernice Cahill, 91, Vienna, died March 3, 2000, at Maries Manor Health Care Center, Vienna.

She was born Dec. 17, 1908, in Maries County, a daughter of Jesse and Flossie Terry Gillispie. She was married Sept. 2, 1927, in Vienna, to Fredrick Cahill, who died Dec. 30, 1967.

She was a member of Little Flock Baptist Church, Vienna.

Survivors include: three daughters, Flossie Sands, Granite City, Ill., Lou Ellen Sullivan, St. Louis, and Anna Thompson, Dixon; one brother, Jesse Charles Gillispie, Vienna; four sisters, Opal Shanks, Vienna, Madge Backues, Linn, Maude Hutchison, Lake Ozark, and Lillian Cook, Rolla; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Two sons, Thurman Cahill and Jesse Cahill, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Little Flock Baptist Church. The Rev. Howard Opperman will officiate. Burial will be in Little Flock Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today and from 9-11:30 a.m. Sunday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Visitation will also be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

FRY

Noma M. Fry, 89, Stover, died March 2, 2000, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia.

She was born Feb. 10, 1911, in Florence, a daughter of August and Grace Carver Rehmer. She was married Oct. 10, 1929, in Smithton, to Jacob Fry, who died Nov. 2, 1963.

A homemaker, she attended Bethlehem Baptist Church, near Florence, and was a member, church hostess and Sunday school secretary at First Baptist Church, Stover. She was also a member of American Legion Post Auxiliary.

Survivors include: two sons, Eddie J. Fry, Montreal, and Kerry Don Fry, Stover; two daughters, Darlene Huffman, Stover, and Nevelle "Jackie" Raines, Boonville; one brother, Clyde Rehmer, Sedalia; two sisters, Ruby Gilbert, Gladstone, and Ileen Masters, Monett; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and18 great-great-grandchildren.

An infant son, Trevor Dearl Fry, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. James Henderson will officiate. Burial will be in Stover Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

MARTIN

Lorraine J. Martin, 67, Linn Creek, died March 3, 2000, at her home.

She was born June 17, 1932, in Chicago, a daughter of Edwin and Marie Steadman Overland. She was married June 13, 1953, in Oak Lawn, Ill., to Jack Martin, who survives at the home.

A bookkeeper at several banks in the Chicago area, she moved to the Lake area seven years ago and was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Osage Beach.

Other survivors include: one son, Steven John Martin, Tinley Park, Ill.; three daughters, Diane Hirsberg, Lockport, Ill., Sandra Ellis, Tinley Park, and Donna Douma, Oak Forest, Ill.; one brother, Roy Overland, Coal City, Ill.; two sisters, Marion Parker, Matteson, Ill., and Colleen Adams, Illinois; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Allee-Reed Funeral Home, Camdenton. Pastor John C. Dautenhahn will officiate. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery, 11333 S. Central Ave., Worth, Ill., with the family receiving friends at 10 a.m.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

RUSSELL

Mark Russell, 36, Eldon, died March 3, 2000, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

He was born Dec. 11, 1963, in  Jefferson City, a son of Don and Peggy Payne Russell. His father survives in Eldon. His mother survives in Versailles.

A musician, he played with Chuck Berry and many other professional and local musicians.

Survivors include: three sons, Eddie Russell, Chesterfield, Bradley Russell and Zach Russell, both of Brumley; one daughter, Nicole Russell, Brumley; and one sister, Vicky Pratt, Brumley.

The body has been cremated. A private service will be at a later date.

Memorials are suggested in care of the family, 23199 Fresno Rd., Versailles, Mo. 65084.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home.

WALTER

Ruth Stewart Walter, 74, Columbia, died March 3, 2000, at Columbia Regional Hospital.

She was born Feb. 16, 1926, in Mexico, a daughter of George E. and Maude Genrich Stewart. She was married in 1956 in Illinois to Roy Walter, who preceded her in death.

A graduate of Mexico High School, she attended Moberly Junior College and worked at Williams Keepers and McAdams Ltd. She was a member of Columbia Art League, Boone County Genealogy Society, Friends of the Library and First United Methodist Church,  Jefferson City.

Survivors include: one son, August Walter, Columbia; one brother, Eugene Stewart, Mexico; five sisters, Geraldine Cleeson, Paris, Bessie Towson and Ima Jean Stewart, both of Columbia, Billie Dawson and Rose Stewart, both of  Jefferson City.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia. Jerry Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Liver Foundation, 75 Maiden Lane, Suite 603, New York, N.Y. 10038.

RADEMAN

Doris Jane Rademan, 66,  Jefferson City, died March 2, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Aug. 14, 1933, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Joe and Naomi Bell Wilson We-kamp. She was married Aug. 18, 1951, in Wardsville, to Raymond B. Rademan, who survives at the home.

She attended schools at Osage Bend and  Jefferson City. A homemaker, she also worked at Scholastic Inc. for 10 years before taking a job with Rademan Heating and Cooling, where she worked for 25 years.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Eagles Auxiliary Aerie 2693.

Other survivors include: one son, John Ray Rademan,  Jefferson City; one daughter, Joyce Marie Theiss, Auxvasse; two brothers, Charles Wekamp, St. Joseph, and David Wekamp, Springfield; one sister, Rhonda Wekamp, Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville. The Rev. Tim Tatro will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Buescher Memorial Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

COTTEN

Paul E. Cotten, 50, Eldon, died March 4, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born April 9, 1949, in Miller County, a son of Edgar and Pauline Blakley Cotten. His mother survives in California.

He was a mechanic for the Lodge of the Four Seasons.

Other survivors include: four sons, Russell Cotton, Tuscumbia, Johnathan Cotton, Lake Ozark, and Richie Cotton and Ross Cotton, Eldon; one daughter, Julie Cotton, Russellville; nine brothers, Robert Cotten, Iberia, Junior Cotton, Centertown, Ralph Cotton, California, Richard Cotton and Johnnie Cotton, both of Russellville, and Larry Cotton, Leslie Cotton, Lonnie Cotton and Charlie Cotton, all of Eldon; one sister, Louisa Amilla, Hermitige; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

HILKEMEYER

Sister Marie Hilkemeyer, 89, died March 3, 2000, at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Ill.

She was born May 9, 1910, in Westphalia, a daughter of Gerhard and Gertrude Luebbert Hilkemeyer.

She was of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis. She entered the Congregation on Feb. 11, 1955, and professed her religious vows on Sept. 8, 1957.

She was a graduate of St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, Quincy, Ill. She served the community as a medical technologist at hospitals in Illinois. She also worked in pastoral care at several hospitals.

She served the sisters as religious leader and assisted in the Franciscan Apostolic Center in Springfield. She retired from active duty in 1990.

Survivors include: one sister, Trudy Conine, Westphalia; and two brothers, Inno Hilkemeyer, Westphalia, and Gilbert Hilkemeyer, Loose Creek.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Francis of Assisi Church at the Motherhouse. The Rev. Terence Tracey will officiate. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Motherhouse, with a wake service at 6:30 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Staab Funeral Home.
