BRAUN

George Ernest Braun, 67, Centertown, died March 26, 2000, at his home.

He was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Osage Bend, a son of George J. and Bertha Frances Veit Braun. He was married Oct. 8, 1955, in St. Elizabeth, to Rita Kirkweg, who survives at the home.

A graduate of St. Peter High School, he was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a life member of American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5, where he served as past commander and past president of the home association. He was a founding member and treasurer of the American Legion Sports Complex and chairman of the American Legion Handicapped Children's Christmas Party.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693; Carpenters District Council Apprenticeship Committee; the Navy Club; and 40 and 8 Voiture 1292.

He founded Braun Plastering Company in 1972 and owned and operated the company since then. He was a member of the Builders Association of Missouri, the Association of Walls and Ceilings Industry and was a former business agent for the Lathers Local.

He was a member of St. Martins Catholic Church and the  Jefferson City and Meadow Lake Acres country clubs.

Other survivors include: one son, Curtis Braun,  Jefferson City; three daughters, Debbie Forck and Karen Gerbes, both of  Jefferson City, and Sandy Stigall, Blue Springs; five brothers, Frank A.J. Braun, Billings, Mont., William J. Braun,  Jefferson City, David O. Braun and Kenneth Braun, both of Osage Bend, and Roger Braun, Wardsville; two sisters, Gwen Gevecker,  Jefferson City, and Mary Pat Luebbering, St. Thomas; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martins Catholic Church. The Rev. Ed Schmidt will officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the: American Legion Post 5 Sports Complex; American Cancer Society; or St. Martins Church Building Fund.

KEANE

Jack L. Keane, 71, Wichita, Kan., formerly of  Jefferson City, died March 24, 2000, in Wichita.

He was born June 27, 1928, in  Jefferson City, a son of Cleo and Macie Musselman Keane.

He was self-employed as an oil and gas acquisitions lease consultant.

Survivors include: one son, Kendall S. Keane, Wichita; two daughters, Kim Bradley, Las Vegas, and Tara Holman, Renton, Wash.; one brother, Donald "Bud" Keane, Bedford, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita. Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

ORBIN

J. Mamie Robison Orbin, 91,  Jefferson City, died March 24, 2000, at St. Joseph Home for the Aged.

She was born Nov. 24, 1908, in DeSota, Ill., a daughter of Frank C. and Julia Rude Nehring. She was married April 23, 1927, in Elksville, Ill., to Alfred L. Robison, who died Oct. 8, 1964. She was married Aug. 16, 1975, in Macon, to Walter Dee Orbin, who died April 22, 1993.

A former resident of Macon, she was a homemaker.

She was employed at F.M. Stamper and Banquet Foods, Macon, until her retirement in 1974 as supervisor on the pie line.

She was a member of First Baptist Church; a 59-year member of Censer Chapter 50, Order of the Eastern Star; and the Neighborhood Club, all in Macon.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert A. Robison,  Jefferson City, and Carol C. Robison, Franklin, N.C.; two stepsons, Walter Dean Orbin, Lebanon, and David Orbin, Macon; one sister, Fern Williamson, Rockford, Mich.; eight grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Home, Ava, Ill. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Ava.

Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Visitation also will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hutton-McElwain Funeral Home, Macon, with an Eastern Star service at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Home for the Aged, the Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.

SHIVERS

Carolyn Sue Schnieders Shivers, 59,  Jefferson City, died March 26, 2000, at Capitol Region Medical Center.

She was born July 7, 1940, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of J. Arthur and B. Alene Freeman Payne.

She was a graduate of  Jefferson City High School. She worked for the Missouri Hotel & Motel Association from 1970 until her retirement in 1984. She was a volunteer for the Juvenile Attention Center and a foster parent for five years. She was the writer/editor of the Capital Speedway Newsletter in the early 1970s.

Survivors include: one son, Troy Andrew Schnieders,  Jefferson City; four daughters, Lisa VanVranken and Richelle Huffman, both of  Jefferson City, Julie Havrum, Lohman, and Leesa Johnson, state of Florida; one brother, Robert Gerald Payne,  Jefferson City; and 13 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. John Kerr will officiate.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Tuesday.

TURBYFILL

Velva E. Turbyfill, 89, California, died March 25, 2000, at California Care Center.

She was born July 6, 1910, in Drake Spur, Ark., a daughter of Thomas P. and Stella Adalee Stout Jackson. She was married in 1937 in Fayetteville, Ark., to Howell Benjamin Turbyfill, who died in 1950.

A graduate of Pangburn High School, Pangburn, Ark., she was a clerk for Oglesby Drug and Gilmore Drug for more than 35 years before retiring. She was a member of Church of Christ, Robinson Avenue, Springdale, Ark., and attended California Church of Christ after moving to California in 1993.

Survivors include: one son, Glen Turbyfill, Sheridan, Wyo.; one daughter, Gwen Fletcher, California; one sister, Opal Spaulding, Springdale; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sisco Funeral Chapel, Springdale. Roy Howard and Charles Schumate will officiate. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery, Springdale.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Sisco Funeral Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

VOLKART

Minnie M. DuVall Volkart, 93, California, died March 26, 2000, at Lake Regional Health Center, Osage Beach.

She was born Sept. 21, 1906, a daughter of John H. and Anna B. Allee Bolinger. She was married to Lloyd DuVall, who died in 1940. She was married to Christopher Volkart, who preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and a former member of Flag Spring Church.

Survivors include: three sons, Larry Volkart, Belzoni, Miss., Harry Volkart, Mansville, Mass., and Truman Volkart, Tipton; one daughter, Geraldine Volkart, Glen Allen, Va.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

One son, Bluford DuVall, died Nov. 15, 1999.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Ivan Dameron will officiate. Burial will be in Flag Spring Cemetery, near California.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Flag Spring Cemetery Fund, in care of Bill Allee, Route 3 Box 3838, California, MO 65018.

WESTERGAARD

Anne Lynn Westergaard, infant daughter of Ty E. and Cathy L. Williams Westergaard, Olean, died March 25, 2000, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

She was born March 10, 2000, in  Jefferson City. Her parents survive.

Other survivors include: one brother, Chris E. Westergaard, of the home; maternal grandparents, Bill and Mary Williams,  Jefferson City; maternal great-grandmothers, Lydia Goldammer and Ruth Williams, both of  Jefferson City; and paternal grandparents, Gary and Virginia Westergaard, Olean.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church. The Rev. Stephen Riordan will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Anne Lynn Westergaard Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

SHELTON

Lucille Shelton, 77, Crocker, died March 26, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Jan. 11, 1923, near Iberia, a daughter of John and Elsie Richards Stone. She was married Sept. 12, 1947, in Tuscumbia, to Dannie Shelton, who died Oct. 26, 1999.

A homemaker, she was a 1941 graduate of Crocker High School.

Survivors include: one son, Ron Shelton, Eldon; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery near Crocker.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia.

SMITH

Kathryn G. "Katch" Smith, 86, Nelson, died March 26, 2000, at her home.

She was born Sept. 23, 1913, in Saline County, a daughter of Roy and Kate Rentschler Grossman. She was married May 15, 1931, in Kansas City, Kan., to Roy Kenneth Smith, who died May 3, 1991.

A member of Nelson Christian Church, she co-owned and co-operated Smith's Grocery Store and Barber Shop. She lived in Nelson since 1934.

Survivors include one daughter, Kay Slagle,  Jefferson City, two grandsons and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home, Marshall. Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to Nelson Cemetery.

SULLINS

Services were today for ClayBelle Sullins, 75, Boonville, formerly of Jamestown, who died March 26, 2000, at Riverdell Care Center, Boonville.

She was born April 16, 1924, in Prairie Home, a daughter of Hugh and Ethel M. Henderson Sullins. Her mother, Ethel M. Smith, survives in Boonville.

She attended Carlos School near Prairie Home and was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church.

Services were at Jamestown Baptist Church. The Rev. Myron Couch and the Rev. Ivan Dameron officiated. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery near Jamestown.

Memorials are suggested to Jamestown Baptist Church, Jamestown, Mo. 65046; or to the Mount Zion Cemetery Fund, c/o Gerald Borts, 607 N. Owen Street, California, Mo. 65018.

Arrangements were under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.
