BUFFALO

Margaret Frances Holmes Buffalo, 60, Vinita, Okla., formerly of Loose Creek, died April 9, 2000, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin.

She was born May 8, 1939, in Loose Creek, a daughter of Hubert P. and Johanna Regina Dudenhofer Schmitz. She was married to Phillip David Holmes, who died July 23, 1997.

She graduated from St. Peter's Catholic School. A resident of Joplin from 1961 to 1982, she was employed as a buyer with Motorola Inc. She then worked at Vinita Flag and Apron.

She was a Roman Catholic.

Survivors include: one son, Henry F. Holmes II, Joplin; two daughters, Maura L. Holman, Neosho, and Corita L. Zernick, Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Martina Boyd,  Jefferson City, and Alberta LaBlanc, Parker, Colo.; and one grandson.

One son, Arleigh D. Holmes, died Dec. 5, 1989.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Joplin. The Rev. Raymond O'Connor will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at Parker Mortuary, Joplin, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Sister Mary Corita Holmes Breast Cancer Center, 1 St. John's Plaza, Joplin, Mo. 64804.

COOK

Peggy Lou Cook, 72, Fulton, died April 10, 2000, at Callaway Community Hospital, Fulton.

She was born May 8, 1927, in Boone County, a daughter of Hulen and Frances Burnett Foster. Her mother survives in Fulton.

A 1946 graduate of Fulton High School, she attended William Woods College and worked for Shelter Insurance as an underwriter for 40 years, retiring in 1992.

Other survivors include cousins.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Callaway Memorial Gardens, Fulton. Bruce Williamson will officiate.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.

FREEMAN

Atsuko "Sue" Freeman, 68, Eldon, died April 9, 2000, in Montgomery City.

She was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Hiroshima, Japan. She was married Oct. 11, 1959, in Tokyo, Japan, to William C. Freeman, who survives at the home.

Born and raised in Hiroshima, she had lived in Hannibal. She lived in the Lake area since 1975. She co-owned and co-operated Camp Bagnell until 1982.

Other survivors include one son, Thomas Freeman, Chesapeake Bay, Va., two brothers and one sister, all of Japan.

Private services will be at a later date. The body was cremated.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

GARRETT

Mildred Joyce Taylor Garrett, 68, Fulton, died April 9, 2000, at her home.

She was born July 18, 1931, in Mokane, a daughter of Harry K. and Mildred Doris Parmer Taylor. She was married Oct. 6, 1950, in Mokane, to William C. "Bill" Garrett, who survives at the home.

A graduate of Mokane High School, she was a member of First Baptist Church, Fulton, where she taught Sunday school.

Other survivors include: two sons, William David Garrett, Fulton, and Dennis Wayne Garrett, Fisher, Ind.; one daughter, Debra Joyce Fugate, Houston, Texas ; two brothers, Jerry K. Taylor, Mokane, and Mike Taylor, New Bloomfield; one sister, Judy Ferris, Yorktown, Va.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Murray Buschert and the Rev. Stephen Sowder will officiate. Entombment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Callaway Home Care, c/o Missouri River Hospice.

HENDRICKSON

Virginia E. Hendrickson, 86, Roach, died April 9, 2000, at Lake Ozark Retirement Center.

She was born April 2, 1914, in Chicago, a daughter of Frederick and Marie Swensson Hendrickson.

A Lake area resident for the past 33 years, she worked as a medical technician before retiring. She was a member of Kent Memorial Lutheran Church, Sunrise Beach. She also lived in Kansas City.

Survivors include one sister, Eleanor Hendrickson, Lake Ozark.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City. The Rev. Herb Johnson will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to Dogwood Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 1136, Camdenton, Mo. 65020.

Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Reed Funeral Home, Camdenton.

McGAHAN

Doran Luane McGahan, 85, Wilmington, N.C., died April 3, 2000, at Liberty Commons Nursing Center, Wilmington.

She was born Nov. 6, 1914, in Iberia, a daughter of James D. and Della Luane Thompson Adams. She was married to Henry McGahan, who survives in Nikiski, Alaska.

She was employed by McGraw-Hill Publishing until her retirement in 1969.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Linda Luane Conley, Wilmington; one son, James Ruskin Lowry, St. Leonard, Md.; and four grandchildren.

Services and burial will be at a later date in Iberia.

Arrangements are under the direction of Andrews Mortuary Market Street, Wilmington.

MEHMERT

Elizabeth Catherine Mehmert, 83, Wardsville, died April 10, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Nov. 4, 1916, in St. Louis, a daughter of John B. and Anna G. Heimericks Mortemeyer. She was married Oct. 26, 1938, in  Jefferson City, to Joseph Herman Mehmert, who died Jan. 3, 1967.

A cook at Johnny's Butcher Shop Bar-B-Que, she was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, the Ladies Sodality, Over-50 Club and Classic Club.

Survivors include: three daughters, Carol Davidson, Wardsville, Mary E. Price, St. Peters, and Jeanie Kincaid, Richland; six sons, Thomas H. Mehmert, Holts Summit, David L. Mehmert and William R. Mehmert, both of Centertown, and Larry J. Mehmert, Ronald P. Mehmert and Robert J. Mehmert, all of  Jefferson City; two sisters, Mary Renn and Matilda Mortemeyer, both of Taos; and 10 grandchildren.

One infant son, Donald E. Mehmert, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville. The Rev. Michael A. Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Stanislaus Education Foundation, St. Stanislaus Catholic Church or Friendship House/Hospice of  Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri.

EMBRY

Mildred Lucille Embry, 78, Tipton, died April 10, 2000, at Tipton Manor.

She was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Fortuna, a daughter of Elvin and Lizzie Devine Hofstetter. She was married July 30, 1940, in Tipton, to Okal Embry, who survives.

A 1939 graduate of Fortuna High School, she was a bookkeeper at Embry Chevrolet, Tipton, and a member of First Baptist Church, Tipton, where she taught Sunday School. She lived in the Kansas City area from 1940 to 1967. She lived in Tipton since 1967.

Other survivors include: one son, Dwight Embry, Tipton; one daughter, Donna Gardner, Olathe, Kan.; one sister, Elnora Koenke, Tipton; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home, Tipton. The Rev. Dusty Klein will officiate. Burial will be in Moreau Cemetery, Tipton.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church.

BROWN

Mary Ruth "WoWo" Brown, 73,  Jefferson City, died April 11, 2000, at her home.

She was born April 20, 1926, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Anton H. and Agnes Ann Droste Diemler. She was married May 22, 1947, in  Jefferson City, to John H. Brown, who survives at the home.

She attended St. Peters High School and the University of Missouri-Columbia. A graduate of Lincoln University, she worked for 10 years as a job counselor for the Human Development Corporation until her retirement in 1989.

She was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral and the  Jefferson City Historical Society, and a past member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen's Auxiliary.

Other survivors include: two sons, James Michael Brown,  Jefferson City, and Capt. John Richard Brown, Clifton, Va.; three daughters, Joy Reven,  Jefferson City, Ann Bruemmer, Blue Springs, and Jane Oar, Huntington Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Margery Calderwood, Searcy, Ark., and Ann Boughton, Creve Coeur; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Cathedral. The Rev. Fred Elskamp will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or St. Joseph Cathedral.
