MERTENS
Bernard Henry "Ben" Mertens, 85, Wardsville, died April 16, 2000, at his home.
He was born July 28, 1914, in Cole County, a son of Paul and Mary Bock Mertens. He was married Feb. 14, 1942, in Jefferson City, to Ruth Mary Mueller, who survives at the home.
He was a lifelong dairy and cattle farmer in the Wardsville area. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville, where he was a member of the Men's Sodality and served on the original parish council.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus, the Wardsville Lions Club and many farm and agricultural organizations.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Carol Lage and Lisa Buschjost, both of Taos, Peggy Borgmeyer, California, and Janice Verslues, Columbia; four sons, Otto "Dick" Mertens, Independence, Michael Mertens, Wardsville, Tim Mertens, Osage Bend, and Mark Mertens, Kimmswick; two sisters, Alice Rackers, Wardsville, and Pauline Berhorst, St. Louis; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Two grandsons preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville. The Rev. Michael A. Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with prayer services at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Visitation also will be from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Stanislaus Scholarship Fund.
NEIGHBORS
Cletis Emit Neighbors, 35, Osage Beach, died April 16, 2000, at his home.
He was born Jan. 16, 1965, in St. Louis, a son of Emit and Shirley Jaycox Neighbors. His mother survives in Osage Beach. His father and stepmother, Emit and Glenda Neighbors, survive in Bloomsdale.
He was in the carpenter trade.
Other survivors include: three sons, Johnathan Cook, Florissant, and Joshua Cook and Nicholas Cook, both of Osage Beach; one daughter, Kimberly Cook, Florissant; and maternal grandmother, Helen Jaycox, Bellview.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach. The Rev. Jay Quinn will officiate. Burial will be in Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osage Beach.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
WALL
Wilhelm A. "Willie" Wall, 92, Overland Park, Kan., died April 14, 2000, at his home.
He was born May 22, 1907, in Great Falls, Mont., a son of Carl and Anna Johnson Wall. He was married Jan. 26, 1929, in Great Falls, to Doris Averil Tirsell, who survives at the home.
He received a degree in architectural engineering from Montana State University and was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the A.I.A. and the Masonic Lodge.
He was active in barbershop quartets.
Other survivors include: one son, Leonard "Tony" Wall, Jefferson City; one daughter, Gretchen Lovelock, Sterling Heights, Mich.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, Overland Park, Kan. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army Bellringers.
WILLIAMS
Annabelle Williams, 90, Boonville, died April 16, 2000, at Cooper County Hospital, Boonville.
She was born Aug. 24, 1909, in Cooper County, a daughter of Ellis and Mary Quint Huckabay. She was married in 1930, in Boonville, to Earl Brandes, who died in 1964. She was married Nov. 28, 1964, in Boonville, to Porter Williams, who survives at the home.
A beautician, she worked at Clayton's Beauty Salon, Boonville, for 40 years. She was a member of the Baptist church.
Other survivors include: one son, Kenneth Brandes, Jefferson City; one sister, Mary Lightner, Kansas City; one grandchild, one step grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at William Wood Funeral Home, Boonville. The Rev. Ivan Dameron will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Boonville.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
YOUNG
Ann Patricia Young, 84, Kansas City, died April 16, 2000, at White Oak Terrace, North Kansas City.
She was born Sept. 22, 1915, in Mary's Home, a daughter of Albert and Bessie Lovell Feltrop. She was married to R.V. Beeler.
A homemaker, she lived in Saudi Arabia for 28 years. She returned to Kansas City in 1980.
She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Joseph T. McGrew, Lake Ozark, and one sister, Francis Lampe, Orlando, Fla.
Private graveside services will be held in Eldon City Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon.
BEACH
Curtis Victor Beach, 88, Eldon, died April 16, 2000, at Lee House in Eldon.
He was born March 11, 1912, in Miller County, a son of Hardy and Margaret Collier Beach. He was married Sept. 15, 1934, in Tuscumbia, to Gladys Leotta Blankenship, who died April 13, 1988.
He was involved in the construction of Bagnell Dam. He retired in 1976 after 42 years with Union Electric. He was a 60-year member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church and a member of First Baptist Church, Eldon. He served with the Miller County Baptist Association Camp for 40 years. He was on the Miller County Senior Citizens Tax Board, as well as being a board member and volunteer with Eldon Meals on Wheels. He was a trustee for Blue Springs Baptist Cemetery.
Survivors include: one son, Ralph Beach, Eldon; one daughter, Rosalyn Sanders, O'Fallon; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
One son, James Curtis Beach, died Jan. 27, 1990.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eldon First Baptist Church. The Rev. Randall Bunch and the Rev. Louis Elseman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens near Barnett.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon.
Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels; the Blue Springs Baptist Cemetery Trust Fund; or a charity of the donor's choice.
COLEMAN
Margaret Marybeth Coleman, 77, Jefferson City, died April 16, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.
Arrangements are incomplete at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
BAUGHMAN
Omega Whittle Birdsong Baughman, 77, Eldon, died April 17, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born March 23, 1923, in Iberia, a daughter of Arlie E. and Ida Mae Johnston Whittle. She was married in 1939 in Tuscumbia to Perry J. Birdsong, who died March 11, 1964. She was married in 1966 in Branson to William D. Baughman, who died June 15, 1991.
A member of Old Path Baptist Church, Eldon, she was a self-employed beautician.
Survivors include: one daughter, Betty J. Rayhart, Rocky Mount; one son, Jim L. Baughman, state of North Carolina; two sisters, Betty Parkhurst, Aurora Springs, and Letha Gentry, Reeds Spring; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Lola Mae Birdsong, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Gene Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to Mount Zion Cemetery.
COLLINS
Oneita Edna Collins, 76, Camdenton, died April 16, 2000, at Jefferson City Hospice House.
She was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Camdenton, a daughter of Everett and Anna Gibson Leap. She was married April 13, 1965, in Miami, Okla., to Fred Collins, who survives at the home.
A Baptist by faith, she was a waitress.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Debbie Davenport, Eldon, and Tena McDowell, Camdenton; five grandchildren and five-great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton. Donald Leap will officiate. The body will be cremated.
