MARTIN
Herman E. Martin, 87, Harrisonville, formerly of Linn Creek, died March 24, 1999, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Kansas City.
He was born July 8, 1911, in Quincy, Ill., a son of Otto and Lillian L. Schachtsiek Martin. He was married March 12, 1972, to Lorene Neeley West, who died Feb. 13, 1999.
He lived in Harrisonville for the past year after living for several years in Lebanon and Linn Creek. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a bus driver for Quincy Transit Lines. He was a member of Linn Creek Methodist Church.
He is survived by one stepdaughter, Charlene West Fisher, Lee's Summit.
Services, with military honors, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Allee-Reed Funeral Home, Camdenton. The Rev. Ralph Hosman will officiate.
Visitation will be from 8-10 a.m. Saturday.
McCROSKY
Charlene Clarke McCrosky, 73, Independence, died March 24, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born April 9, 1925, in Marceline, a daughter of Charles and Sylvia Sanderson Clarke. She was married Dec. 14, 1946, in Kansas City, to Roy Delos McCrosky, who died in January 1989.
A resident of Independence since 1948, she worked in the education and testing department of the National Weather Bureau. She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Independence.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sharon Kay Horgan, Slater, and Bonnie Jean Williams, Jefferson City; two brothers, Fred M. Clarke, Germany, and Glen A. Clarke, Houston, Texas ; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Marceline. The Rev. Larry Kennard will officiate.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at McLaughlin-Scudiero Funeral Home, Marceline.
SCHMIDT
James W. Schmidt Sr., 75, Jefferson City, died March 25, 1999, at Oak View Living Center.
He was born Jan. 29, 1924, in St. Thomas, a son of Otto M. and Matilda Matheisen Schmidt. He was married Nov. 23, 1976, in Rockford, Ill., to Elizabeth Anne Rea, who survives at the home.
He was a 1948 graduate of Finley Engineering College, Kansas City. He was employed with Roadway, Inc., Rockford, Ill. He also served as an electrical draftsman with Lindburg Engineering Company, Watertown, Wis., retiring in 1986. An Army veteran of World War II, he earned three Bronze Stars. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville; North American Conservation Association; American Legion Post 1000; VFW Post 1003; and VFW Military Order of the Cootie.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Charlotte Duncan, state of Wyoming; one son, James W. Schmidt Jr., Edgerton, Wis.; three sisters, Sally Strope, St. Thomas, Frieda Wolf, O'Fallon, and Lucille Copeland, Jefferson City; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael A. Coleman will officiate. Entombment will be in Hawthorn Memorial Garden Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Stanislaus Building Fund.
SWAN
Ira Lionel Swan, 85, Hugoton, Kan., died March 25, 1999, at Stevens County Hospital, Hugoton.
He was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Stevens County, Kan., a son of Roy M. and Leona M. Kerns Swan. He was married Aug. 24, 1946, in Clayton, N.M., to Bethel Elizabeth Dwyer, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of Hugoton, he was employed by Mobil Oil until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church, Hugoton, and the VFW.
Other survivors include: one son, Ronald E. Swan, Knowles, Okla.; two daughters, Marilyn J. Holcomb, Hugoton, and Leona M. Sullivan, Jefferson City; three sisters, Maxine Dewey, Borger, Texas , Loree Folger, Amarillo, Texas , and Luvada Coulter, Pharr, Texas ; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Hugoton. Max Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Pioneer Manor Special Care Unit, Hugoton.
Arrangements are under the direction of Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.
LESS
Kathryn "Katie" E. Less, 95, Jamestown, died March 25, 1999, at Cooper County Memorial Hospital and Clinics, Boonville.
She was born Dec. 28, 1903, in Jamestown, a daughter of William H. and Emma Aegerter Less.
She operated the switchboard in Jamestown from 1920-1952. She worked at Weber Shoe Company, Tipton, from 1952-1968. She wrote the Jamestown news for the California Democrat for 50 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Jamestown, and was recognized for 90 years' perfect attendance at Sunday school. She was a member of WMU of Grace United Methodist Church, Jamestown. She attended Jamestown School.
Survivors include: one nephew, Billy Less, St. Louis; and three nieces, Kathryn Yard, Jamestown, Iola Lademann, California, and Viola Barbour, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church, Jamestown. The Rev. Marlene Arnold and the Rev. Chester Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.

McMICHAEL
James Joseph McMichael, 72, Glendale, Ariz., died March 25, 1999, in Phoenix, Ariz.
He was born June 14, 1926, in Jefferson City, a son of Archibald and Minnie Wilburs McMichael.
He was retired from real estate sales. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: two daughters, Julie Rea, Chandler, Ariz., and Lisa Wirtjes, Peoria, Ariz.; two sons, Gregory McMichael, Parker, Colo., and Jeffrey McMichael, Phoenix; two sisters, Margie Schneiders and Alice Bonnot, both of Jefferson City; and two brothers, Donald McMichael, St. Louis, and Richard and Henry McMichael, both of Holts Summit.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Simon and Jude, Phoenix.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Chapel of the Chimes, Glendale, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.

PETERSON
Donald N. Peterson, 77, Camdenton, died March 26, 1999, at Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital.
He was born July 23, 1921, in Rock Falls, Ill., a son of Harry and Hannah Nelson Peterson. He was married to Evelyn Dronenburg, who died in 1989.
He had lived in the Lake area for the past nine years. He was employed in the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator. He attended the Lutheran church and was an Army veteran.
Survivors include: two sons, Eldon Peterson, Camdenton, and Kent N. Peterson, Sterling, Ill.; one brother, Harry L. Peterson Spring Valley, Ill.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Private services and burial will be at a later date.
SWAN

TWITCHELL
Jesse E. Twitchell, 74, Fulton, died March 25, 1999, at University of Missouri Medical Center, Columbia.
He was born March 2, 1925, in Glasgow, a son of John and Emma Williams Twitchell. He was married June 4, 1946, in Fulton, to Helen Salmons, who survives at the home.
He retired from Fulton State Hospital in 1984 where he was an aide for 31 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include: two sons, Eddie Twitchell and John O. Twitchell, both of Fulton; one daughter, Trudy Witt, Fulton; two brothers, Gene Twitchell, Calwood, and John Twitchell, Glasgow; one sister, Sarah Thomas, Boonville; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Bruce Williamson will officiate. Entombment will be in Callaway Memorial Garden Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to his family.
CAMPBELL
Alta E. Campbell, 77, Versailles, died March 27, 1999, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.
She was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Camden County, a daughter of David and Rhoda Scott Davenport.
She was a member of the Christian Church in Eldon.
Survivors include: three brothers, Russel Metcalf, Gravois Mills, Dorsey Metcalf, Laurie, and Leonard Hanks, Garden City, Kan.; two sisters, Berniece Pedocki and Oma Lynn, both of Kansas City, Kan.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. Roger Fischer will officiate. Burial will be in the Stover Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Monday.
