JONES

Paul Ray Jones, 64, Boonville, died April 26, 2000, at Boone Hospital, Columbia.

He was born July 25, 1935, in  Oklahoma City, Okla., a son of William J. and Minnie Mae Jones. He was married in August 1957 in  Oklahoma City, to Peggy Delores Goad, who died in 1990. He was married May 2, 1992, in Boonville, to Betty Lancaster Holt, who survives.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring in 1977.

He moved to Boonville in 1983 and worked for the Department of Corrections.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Boonville and the VFW in Columbia.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Naomi Mae Jones,  Jefferson City; two stepdaughters, Linda Rhode, Hilton Head, S.C., and Kimberly Holt, Los Angeles; four brothers, Earl Jones, Big Springs, Texas , William Jones, Nederland, Colo., and Joe Clemons and Jim Clemons, both of Parsons, Kan.; two sisters, Dorothy Black and Delores Franco, both of  Oklahoma City; and two grandchildren.

One son, David Jones, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at William Wood Funeral Home, Boonville. The Rev. Tim Faber will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery,  Jefferson City.

Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

KAISER

Henry Charles Kaiser, 78, Vienna, died April 26, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Jan. 11, 1922, in Vienna, a son of Kaspar J. and Rosie M. Sandbothe Kaiser.

A lifelong Vienna resident, he was a member of Visitation Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society, both of Vienna. He was a member of the U.S. Weather Bureau and the National Farmers Organization.

Survivors include: two sisters, Margaret Eads,  Jefferson City, and Frances Kaiser, Vienna; and one brother, Bernard Kaiser, Vienna.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Visitation Catholic Church. The Rev. John Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today at Kordes Funeral Home, Vienna, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

MILLER

Verne Miller, 88, Sublette, Kan., died April 25, 2000, at Hamilton County Extended Care Unit, Syracuse, Kan.

He was born July 20, 1911, in Haskell County, Kan., a son of Charles E. and Flossie Pearl Follin Miller. He was married Dec. 23, 1931, in Cimarron, Kan., to Dollie Ida Freeman, who died Aug. 14, 1978.

He was a graduate of Manhattan High School, Manhattan, Kan.

A farmer, he also raised certified seed and ran cattle.

After his retirement, he established Miller Tree Farm, where he raised Christmas trees.

He was a member of Plymell Union Church, Garden City, Kan., where he was a past member of the church board.

He was a member of the Haskell County Soil and Conservation Board and Farm Bureau. He was past treasurer of Finney-Haskell Old Settlers Association and a founding member of the Kansas Christmas Tree Growers Association.

Survivors include: two daughters, Verna Rundell, Syracuse, Kan., and Fredys Wasson, Belpre, Kan.; one son, Francis Miller, Hartsburg; two brothers, Earl Miller, College Park, Md., and Ralph Miller, Upland, Calif.; two sisters, Laura Quakenbush, Sublette, and Mary Vail, Alexandria, Va.; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Plymell Union Church. The Rev. Ray Raley and the Rev. Gary Meeks will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today, and from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.

Memorials are suggested to Plymell Union Church.

WILLEY

Phyllis J. Willey, 69, Camdenton, died April 26, 2000, at Lake Regional Health Center, Osage Beach.

She was born May 14, 1930, in Andrew, Iowa, a daughter of Ancho and Elda Gande Reed. She was married Sept. 10, 1950, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Robert A. Willey, who survives at the home.

A Lutheran, she was a homemaker.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Linda S. Kurbai, St. Peters; two brothers, Darrell Reed, Spraqueville, Iowa, and Kenneth Reed, Bellevue, Iowa; two sisters, Darlene Rimmer, Maquoketa, and Leanna Angell, Portland, Ore.; and one granddaughter.

Private services will be at a later date in Wolf Creek, Cemetery, Streator, Ill. The body was cremated.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton.

FALTER

George Falter, 92, Freeburg, died April 26, 2000, in Green Meadows Care Center, Linn.

He was born Oct. 29, 1907, in Freeburg, a son of Conrad and Antonette Lauberth Falter. He was married April 11, 1945, in Freeburg, to Irene Talken, who survives at the home.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg. He was a lifelong farmer, retiring in 1967.

Other survivors include one brother, Leo Falter, Bridgeton, and one sister, Mary Falter, Freeburg.

Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church. The Rev. Mike Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., and from 7-8 a.m. Saturday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.

Memorials or Masses are suggested to Holy Family Catholic Church and School Memorial Fund.

GROSS

David Gross, 70,  Jefferson City, died April 27, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born June 20, 1929, in Kitts County, Ky., a son of Bige and Beatrice Hall Gross. He was married March 14, 1947, in Stuttgart, Germany, to Martha Abele, who survives at the home.

He attended school in Kitts County and graduated from Columbia College with a degree in sociology. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War and received the Bronze Star. He served from 1945 to 1966, retiring as a sergeant first class.

He worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections from 1967 until his retirement in 1991 as a captain. He was a member of VFW Roy Stone Post 1003.

Other survivors include: two sons, Jack D. Gross,  Jefferson City, and Michael D. Gross, San Antonio, Texas ; four daughters, Carol S. Heflin, Kansas City, Cherie C. Copeland, Boise, Idaho, and Dorothy J. Delaney and Tanya M. Powell, both of  Jefferson City; two sisters, Jeanette Guthrie, Jasper, Ala., and Nancy Cheatwood, state of Alabama; one brother, Bige Gross,  Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Paul Scheperle will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

HOLEYFIELD

Lota A. Holeyfield, 79, Iberia, died April 27, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Care Center.

She was born March 21, 1921, in Iberia, a daughter of Oscar Karr and Josie Smith. She was married Nov. 27, 1939, in Iberia, to Arthur Virgil Holeyfield, who died Sept. 30, 1975.

A homemaker, she was a member of Iberia Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include: one son, John Holeyfield, Blue Springs; three daughters, Linda Roberts, Iberia, Marilyn Guidry, Killeen, Texas , and Nina Parkison, Montreal; one brother, Wesley Shackleford, Kansas City; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. John Bouldrey will officiate. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Care Center.

HUNKINS

The Rev. Richard Colleran Hunkins, 72, Columbia, died April 27, 2000.

He was born Oct. 27, 1927, in St. Louis, a son of Everett D. and Catherine Ann Colleran Hunkins.

He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Parish School, St. Louis Preparatory Seminary and Kenrick Seminary, all in St. Louis. He attended the University of Maryland at the Albany, Ga., extension from 1962 to 1965. From 1968 to 1970, he attended the University of San Diego, where he received a master's degree in history.

He was ordained to the priesthood March 17, 1956. He then was stationed at St. Brendan Parish, Mexico, and became incardinated in the Diocese of  Jefferson City. A Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a chaplain from 1961 to 1970 at several military locations. He also served in cities statewide, including Owensville and Belle.

He was spiritual director with the Cursillo Movement and Resident Encounter Christ. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Welcome Home Inc. and the Knights and Ladies of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.

Survivors include: two sisters, Betty Ann Sims and Mary Ellen Holton; and two brothers, Franklin Hunkins and Thomas Hunkins.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Columbia. The Most Rev. Bishop John R. Gaydos will officiate. Services also will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, University City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Columbia, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9:30-10:40 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, University City.

Memorials are suggested to St. Thomas Seminary, Hannibal.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Funeral Service, Columbia.
