SCOTT
William Ernest "Billy" Scott, 64, Versailles, died April 28, 2000, at the Veterans Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.
He was born Aug. 26, 1935, in Versailles, a son of Ernest and Lesa Ellen Pritchard Scott.
A graduate of Morgan County R-2 High School, Versailles, and an Army veteran, he worked on the family farm and assisted his father in the well drilling business.
Survivors include one sister, Joann Mayor, Des Moines, Iowa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Roy Bennett will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Versailles Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
WHITTEN
Doris Jean Whitten, 65, Versailles, died May 1, 2000, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.
She was born June 22, 1934, in Gravois Mills, a daughter of Thomas P. and Josephine Robinson Farr. She was married May 7, 1955, to Pete Wilson, who died Nov. 4, 1991.
She worked at Fasco Industries, Eldon, was a member of West Union Baptist Church, Versailles, and served on the Sidebottom Cemetery Association Board.
Survivors include: one son, Thomas M. Whitten, Gladstone; two daughters, Regina Meyers, Tipton, and Candace Bowers, Gravois Mills; one stepson, Rick Varner, Jefferson City; two brothers, Jewel Farr, Versailles, and Jimmy Don Farr, Kansas City; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
One stepson, Mike Whitten, preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Versailles Cemetery. The Rev. Rod Campbell will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.
YOWS
Etta B. Yows, 98, Barnett, died May 1, 2000, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.
She was born Dec. 21, 1901, in Morgan County, a daughter of John O. and Jennie Ratcliff Beard. She was married June 13, 1920, to John Herschel Yows, who died May 13, 1979.
A homemaker, she was a member of Barnett Union Church, the Art Guild, China Painters of America, and past matron of OES Chapter 303, Barnett.
Survivors include: four sons, Gail E. Yows, Farmington, N.M., Norman Yows, Don H. Yows and Robert O. Yows, all of Barnett; three daughters, Charlotte Davenport, San Diego, Calif., Virginia Nolting, Stover, and Mary Etta Griswold, Arnold; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
TIPTON
William J. "Bill" Tipton, 74, formerly of Jefferson City, died May 2, 2000, at Carriage Square Nursing Center, St. Joseph.
He was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Jefferson City, a son of Joseph and Dollie James Tipton. He was married on May 11, 1947, in Jefferson City, to Wanda Hidlebaugh, who died Oct. 11, 1990.
A graduate of Jefferson City High School, he lived in Jefferson City most of his life. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He was employed as a printer for 38 years with the Commercial Printing Company and later with the Missouri State Printing Department until his retirement in 1988.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, the Marine Corps League and the Jefferson City Jay Football Booster Club.
Survivors include: two sons, Gary H. Tipton, St. Joseph, and Kent A. Tipton, Holland, Mich.; one sister, Mildred Reynolds, Collierville, Tenn.; one brother, Bob Tipton, East Peoria, Ill.; and three grandsons.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Thomas W. Nelson will officiate. Graveside services, with military honors, will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson's Foundation.
CLAVIN
Joseph E. "Bingo Joe" Clavin, 81, Sunrise Beach, died May 3, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Morrisonville, Ill., a son of Simon E. and Mary Farley Clavin. He was married Nov. 22, 1947, to Martha K. Tarases, who survives at the home.
He worked in management for the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City. He was a member of: Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie; Knights of Columbus; American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624 in Sunrise Beach; Hurricane Deck Lions Club; and the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 in Laurie. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a life member of the DAV.
Other survivors include: one son, Jerry Clavin, Broken Arrow, Okla.; two daughters, Kathryn Bryant, Abilene, Texas , and Theresa Clavin, Broken Arrow; four sisters, Agnes Canfield, Alvin, Texas , Helen Huber, Nokomis, Ill., Rita Mordacq, Indianapolis, Ind., and Mary Clavin, Milwaukee, Wis.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Msgr. Gerard Poelker will officiate. The remains will be cremated.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.
Memorials are suggested to American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624.
DAVIS
Louise Emilie Eichman Davis, 87, Jefferson City, died May 3, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 14, 1913, in Jefferson City, a daughter of William H. and Frieda L. Godt Eichman. She was married Feb. 3, 1951, in Denver, to Harry M. Davis, who died July 12, 1974.
She attended Jefferson City public schools and received a bachelor's degree in education from Central Missouri State University. She also attended the University of Colorado, University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota.
She taught kindergarten at Broadway School and Central School until 1949. She taught at West Hills Nursery School for five years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Circle 2 at the church. She was a member of the Victoria Chapter 14 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Jefferson City Country Club. She was a charter member of the Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary. During World War II, she belonged to the Jefferson City Women's Motor Corps.
Survivors include: one daughter, Linda L. George, Jefferson City; two grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Greg Brady and Ann Teague will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
BACON
Frances L. Zingsheim Bacon, 91, Eldon, died May 4, 2000, at Lake Regional Health Center, Osage Beach.
She was born May 12, 1908, in St. Louis, a daughter of James H. and Alice Ryan Radford. She was married in 1933 in St. Louis to Harvey F. Zingsheim, who preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: one daughter, Fran Schall, Eldon; one sister, Beulah Harman, St. Louis; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Larry Ollison will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
BYARS
Josephine L. Byars, 83, Jefferson City, died May 3, 2000, at her home.
She was born Sept. 10, 1916, in Sturgeon, a daughter of Hume H. and Grace Bassett Long. She was married April 12, 1941, in Mexico, to Warner S. Byars, who died Nov. 11, 1973.
A lifelong Central Missouri resident, she was a graduate of Sturgeon High School and Chillicothe Business College. She worked for state of Missouri for 35 years, retiring in 1992 from the Uniform Commercial Code Division of the Missouri Secretary of State's office.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for Memorial Community Hospital and Capital Region Medical Center.
Survivors include: two sons, Mark L. Byars, Glendora, Calif., and Jack H. Byars, Irmo, S.C.; one daughter, Jane Bedsworth, Jefferson City; one brother, Ritchie H. Long, Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Greg Brady will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Capital Region Medical Center Diabetes Education Program.
KOENIGSFELD
Florence Joan Koenigsfeld, 99, Holts Summit, died May 3, 2000, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born Dec. 15, 1900, in Osage County, a daughter of Cyrus and Mary Peticek Saladin. She was married in July 1944 in Frankenstein to Frank Joseph Koenigsfeld, who died Feb. 23, 1971.
She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Holts Summit. She worked at Chamois Shoe Factory and as a seamstress at Oberman's Manufacturing Company.
Survivors include nieces, Betty Borman and Eleanor Nentwig, both of Jefferson City, and nephew, Cyrus Nentwig, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew Catholic Church. The Rev. Frederick J. Elskamp will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Andrew Catholic Church, or a charity of the donor's choice.
