PACE
Edna L. Pace, 90, California, died May 4, 2000, at Moniteau Care Center, California.
She was born Nov. 12, 1909, in the state of Arkansas, a daughter of Fod and Nancy Jane Bonnie Heather. She was married Oct. 12, 1926, in Arkansas, to Jack R. Pace, who died Nov. 10, 1995.
A member of Main Street Baptist Church, California, she worked at California Pants Factory and California Woolen Mill.
Survivors include: three sons, Don Pace, Charles Pace and Jack Pace, all of California; five daughters, Dorothy Murphy, Viola Yates, Virginia Potter, Betty Zimmerman and Margaret Koenke, all of California; 22 grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 20 step great-grandchildren, 37 great-great-grandchildren and 15 step great-great-grandchildren.
One son, Jerry Pace, died March 4, 1996, and one infant son, Kenneth Pace, also preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Ken Mathes and the Rev. Ivan Dameron will officiate. Burial will be in California City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to the Main Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 303 W. Main St., California, Mo.
HERNANDEZ
Sandra Hernandez, 63, Eldon, died May 4, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born Feb. 6, 1937, in Providence, R.I., a daughter of Leroy and LeVira McCallum Wilkinson.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: three sons, Roger Grady, St. Ann, John Grady, Colcord, Okla., and Robert Grady, state of Arkansas; one brother, Paul Wilkinson, Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
One daughter, Donna Harris, preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Eldon City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
HOCKADAY
Eulalie Cerese Hockaday, 88, Jefferson City, died May 4, 2000, at Villa St. Joseph Nursing Center, Overland Park, Kan.
She was born Aug. 7, 1911, a daughter of George and Elpha McQueen. She was married June 27, 1929, in Horton, Kan., to E.I. "Mike" Hockaday, who died May 21, 1993.
She was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School. A resident of Jefferson City since 1935, she worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue and the Missouri Legislature.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the Church Circle. She was a past member of PEO, Chapter JB; the Jefferson City Country Club; the Cole County Historical Society; and Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary, where she served as a volunteer.
She was active in many community and charitable organizations.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Hockaday Avery, Overland Park, Kan., six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
One daughter, Joanne Hockaday Czarlinsky, died Nov. 11, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Riverview Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
LANGDON
Lois E. Langdon, 73, Iberia, died May 3, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born April 6, 1927, in St. Louis, a daughter of Ralph and Mabel Culp Kemp. She was married to Edwin Hughes, who preceded her in death. She was married July 25, 1992, in Iberia, to Orville William Langdon, who died Jan. 6, 1994.
A home health nurse, she was a member of St. Elizabeth First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Ralph Hughes, Minneapolis; two daughters, Carol Joy Hughes and Rebecca Davidson, both of St. Paul, Minn.; three sisters, Esther Herzog, Iberia, Margaret Rombach, Chesterfield, and Catherine Vaughn, Winchester; and one granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. William Chamberlain will officiate. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia.
Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Baptist Church.
MAUPIN
L. Elizabeth Maupin, 85, Tipton, died May 4, 2000, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
She was born Aug. 16, 1914, in Camden County, a daughter of James and Ida Farmer Ayres. She was married Oct. 1, 1932, to Raymond L. Maupin, who died Jan. 11, 1983.
A homemaker, she worked at Biltwell Pants Factory, Tipton. Had had lived in Fortuna and was a member of Fortuna United Methodist Church, the Missionary Society, Fortuna Senior Citizens and the Fortuna Homemakers Club.
Survivors include: one son, Ed Maupin, Independence; two daughters, Jacqueline Clark, Tipton, and Glenda Veulemans, Sunrise Beach; one brother, James H. Ayres, Eldon; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fortuna United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dan Adkison will officiate. Burial will be in Newkirk Cemetery near Fortuna.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.
McDANIEL
Dortha Gene Curry McDaniel, 79, Waco, Texas , formerly of Jefferson City, died April 25, 2000, at Westview Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Golden City, a daughter of Fred and Belva Jo Curry. She was married to Eugene E. McDaniel, who survives at the home.
She attended Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, and was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts, Red Cross and other community agencies. She helped to establish the first kindergarten in Aurora.
She was a past resident of Aurora and Mechanicsburg, Pa.
Other survivors include: one son, Joe McDaniel, Baltimore; one daughter, Carole McDaniel Hanks, Waco; two sisters, Doris Curry Courtney, Springfield, and Janice Curry Pope, Neosho; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. May 13 in Room 317 of the Student Union, Southwest Missouri State University. Burial was in Red Oak.
Memorials are suggested to Habitat for Humanity.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brookview Funeral Home, Waco.
THOMPSON
Hadley H. Thompson, 88, Eldon, died May 4, 2000, at his home.
He was born May 17, 1911, in Bagnell, a son of Grant and Myrtle Warnell Thompson. He was married in 1937 in Olathe, Kan., to Icel I. Percival, who survives at the home.
He attended Bagnell High School and was a World War II Navy veteran and retired after 38 years. He owned and operated Thompson Cottages, Lake Ozark, and was a deputy law enforcement officer. He was the first runner of the Ski Show, Lake Ozark, and a pilot of the Tom Sawyer at Lake of the Ozarks. He was a member of Eldon VFW Post 2442 and Horseshoe Bend Baptist Church, Lake Ozark.
Other survivors include: one daughter Patricia Pfaff, Mims, Fla.; one son, Gregory Byler, Springfield; two brothers, Paul Thompson, Pueblo, Colo., and Joe Thompson, Leeton; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Horseshoe Bend Baptist Church. The Rev. Clyde Leonard will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Hawkins Cemetery, Brumley.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Horseshoe Bend Baptist Church Building Fund or the Lake Ozark Area Hospice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
WHITTLE
Anna Mae Whittle, 84, Jefferson City, died May 4, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born March 5, 1916, in Henley, a daughter of Boyd and Anna Sullens Rogers. She was married Sept. 14, 1940, in California, to Markel "Jack" Whittle, who preceded her in death.
An author of a book about the history of Henley, she was an obstetrics nurse and owned and operated the Whittle Store in Henley.
Survivors include: two sons, Tom Whittle, Centertown, and Bill Whittle, Jefferson City; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Mark Whittle Jr. and Francis "Woody" Woodson, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. Bob Hoskins will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Garden Cemetery, Eugene.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
SQUIER
Zella Mae Squier, 86, Morrison, Colo., formerly of Jefferson City, died May 1, 2000.
She was born May 18, 1913, in Red Boiling Springs, Tenn. She was married to the Rev. Merle Warren Squier, who preceded her in death.
She attended Anderson College, Anderson, Ind., then worked in a yard goods store. She was activities director of a nursing home and a member of the Women's Missionary Society of the Church of God, Anderson. She lived in Jefferson City from 1954-1963 while her husband was minister of the First Church of God.
Survivors include: two daughters, Gladys Nielsen, Rochester, Vt., and Beverly Beighle, Lakewood, Colo., and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at South Denver Church of God, 2300 S. Marion St., Denver. The Rev. Cecil Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Albion, Mich.
