BAUER

Kathryn L. Bauer, 80,  Jefferson City, died May 31, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Tipton, a daughter of John and Laura Smith Groves. She was married Nov. 23, 1938, in Tuscumbia, to Robert Wolf, who died Oct. 24, 1968. She was married Aug. 20, 1988, in Tipton, to Anthony G. Bauer, who survives at the home.

She attended schools in Tipton.

She worked several years at Stride Rite Shoe Factory, Tipton, as a shoe cutter until her retirement in 1981.

She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 2693, where she was president from 1985 to 1986.

She was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2442, Eldon, and American Legion Auxiliary Post 5.

Other survivors include: one son, Thomas Wolf, Lee's Summit; one daughter, Wanda Stayton,  Jefferson City; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

One granddaughter preceded her in death.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Peckman will officiate. Burial, with Eagle's honors, will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Tipton.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday with a Fraternal Order of Eagles service at 7:15 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

HUGHES

Robert Charles Hughes III, 3,  Jefferson City, died May 30, 2000, at his home.

He was born Nov. 18, 1996, in Columbia, a son of Robert Charles Hughes Jr. and Julianna Vaughn. His mother survives in  Jefferson City. His father survives in Bettendorf, Iowa. His foster parents, Bernard Lamont Davis and Patricia Boston, survive in  Jefferson City.

Other survivors include: one brother, Phillip Cave, Ottumwa, Iowa; three sisters, Kelley Vaughn,  Jefferson City, and Amber Hughes and Lexus Hughes, both of Bettendorf; maternal grandparents, Harold and Norma Kelly,  Jefferson City; and paternal grandfather, Charles William Hughes, Davenport, Iowa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Eva Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to Premium Child Care Center, 1028 E. High St.,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.

KUMBERG

William Jackson "Jack" Kumberg, 62, Stover, died May 30, 2000, at his home.

He was born June 21, 1937, in Birmingham, a son of James H. Sr. and Florence Opal Marriott Kumberg.

A timber cutter, he was a member of West Union Baptist Church, south of Versailles.

Survivors include one brother, Junior Kumberg, Versailles.

One son, Johnny Gail Kumberg, died Sept. 27, 1975. His stepfather, Luther Huff, also preceded him in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover. Burial will be in Ritchie Cemetery, south of Versailles.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to West Union Baptist Church or the Ritchie Cemetery Fund.

REED

Dwight Thornton Reed, 85,  Jefferson City, died May 31, 2000, at Capital Healthcare Center.

He was born March 13, 1915, in St. Paul, Minn., a son of Dwight T. Sr. and Ora Woods Reed. He was married March 27, 1942, in Chicago, to Hiawatha Peoples, who survives at the home.

He was a 1933 graduate of Washington High School, St. Paul. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Minnesota, where he played on championship football teams in the 1930s.

He served for many years at Lincoln University as athletic director and as a coach for football, basketball and track. He coached 93 All-America athletes. The Lincoln University football stadium and track were named in his honor in 1985. He also was summer youth program director.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Other survivors include: one son, Kenneth L. Reed, Holts Summit; one stepson, Marvin Reed, Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Monday in Veterans National Cemetery, Fort Snelling, Minn., under the direction of Brooks Funeral Home, St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the Dwight Reed Memorial Fund.

STOERMER

Lena Hermina Margaret Stoermer, 90, Cole Camp, died May 30, 2000, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Cole Camp.

She was born April 20, 1910, in Oldenburg, Germany, a daughter of Johann H. and Margaret Henrika Janssen Busing. She was married April 19, 1931, in Yuma, Colo., to Otto E. Stoermer, who survives at the home.

A homemaker, she was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Cole Camp.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Edna Simon, Cole Camp, and Margaret Mayhew,  Jefferson City; one son, Herbert Stoermer, Cole Camp; one sister, Emma Bell, Cheyenne, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

One son, Paul Stoermer, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. The Rev. Erich L. Kurz will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Cole Camp.

Visitation will follow a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. today at Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.

Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

VAUGHN

Damian Wayne Vaughn, 7,  Jefferson City, died May 30, 2000, at his home.

He was born Jan. 7, 1993, in Mexico, a son of Donald Wayne Williams and Natalie J. Vaughn. His mother survives in Houston, Texas . His father survives in Fulton. His stepmother, Julianna Vaughn, survives in  Jefferson City. His stepfather, Robert Charles Hughes Jr., survives in Bettendorf, Iowa. His foster parents, Bernard Lamont Davis and Patricia Boston, survive in  Jefferson City.

He was a first-grade student at Thorpe Gordon Elementary School.

Other survivors include: one brother, Cornell Manley,  Jefferson City; three sisters, Nicole Vaughn and Donaca Nelson, both of  Jefferson City, and Daniele Williams, Columbia; one stepbrother, Phillip Cave, Ottumwa, Iowa; maternal grandparents, Harold and Norma Kelly,  Jefferson City; paternal grandfather, Tojo Williams, Columbia, and paternal grandmother, Laura Mae Nelson, Mexico.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Eva Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday.

ERNST

Lillian R. Ernst, 98, California, died May 31, 2000, at  Jefferson City Manor.

She was born Jan. 7, 1902, in California, a daughter of Jacob and Lizzie Isenschmid Kueffer. She was married Nov. 1, 1925, in California, to Arthur C. Ernst, who died Feb. 28, 1980.

She attended California High School and was a member of Moniteau Advent United Church of Christ. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Chester Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in Evangelical Cemetery, California.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Moniteau Advent United Church of Christ, 59349 Moniteau Church Road, Jamestown, Mo. 65046.

PROCTOR

Sharon K. Proctor, 60, California, died May 31, 2000, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

She was born Feb. 4, 1940, in St. Joseph, a daughter of Marion E. and Wilma Callahan Simon. Her father and stepmother, Helen Simon, survive in California. She was married July 23, 1961, in Wichita, Kan., to Eldred B. Proctor, who survives at the home.

A 1958 graduate of East High School, Wichita, she was a dental assistant in Wichita and later a secretary at Proctor Lumber Co., California. She was a member of the Ladies Bridge Club and the Couples Bridge Club. She attended First Baptist Church, California, where she served on the decorating committee.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Beth Butler,  Jefferson City; one brother, Roger Simon, Kansas City, Kan.; two stepsisters, Janice Schneider, Alexandria, Va., and Jeanne Jackson, Warrensburg; and two stepbrothers, Tom Neal and Robert Neal, both of Warrensburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Greg Morrow will officiate. Burial will be in California City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

GENTGES

Pearl Marie Gentges, 79, Frankenstein, died June 1, 2000, at her home.

She was born Dec. 28, 1920, in Chamois, a daughter of Stanley and Eda Augusta Stephan Blackburn. She was married Aug. 31, 1947, in Frankenstein, to William P. Gentges, who died April 13, 1991.

A homemaker, she did housework in the Chamois area for many years. She was a member of Our Lady of Help Church, Frankenstein, and St. Ann's Sodality.

Survivors include: one son, Steven Gentges, Linn; five daughters, Elaine Backes and Janet Orscheln, both of Loose Creek, Shirley Evans, Linn, Beverly Lowry, Holts Summit, and Edith Kirsch, Frankenstein; three sisters, Nelda Maassen and Delpha Groves, both of Mexico, and Lucille Steffen, Chamois; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

One son, Vernon Gentges, and two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Help Church. The Rev. George Kramer will officiate. Burial will be in Garden of Gethsemane, Frankenstein.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Missouri River Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.
