CAPPS

Leonard O.L. Capps, 57, Versailles, died June 20, 2000, at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Columbia.

He was born Jan. 15, 1943, near Stover, a son of Clarence W. and Arizona Davenport Capps.

He retired from General Motors Leeds Plant, Kansas City, and was a member of the United Auto Workers.

Survivors include: two daughters, Angie Connell, Stover, and Trisha Freemeyer, Appleton City; two brothers, Neil Capps, Versailles, and Jerry Capps, Barnett; five sisters, Aretta Huffman, Versailles, Leta Branch, Eldon, Valerie Walton, Smyrna, Tenn., Sherry Fischer, Hartsburg, and Shirley Capps, Columbia; and one grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. Bro. Wilford Whittle will officiate. Burial will be in the Stover Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center's Guest House, Columbia.

HOPKINS

Edna Hopkins, 97,  Jefferson City, died June 21, 2000, at Oak View Living Center.

She was born Aug. 25, 1902, in Knob Licking, a daughter of Charles and Martha Bacis Johnson. She was married Sept. 4, 1930, in Corning, Ark., to Raymond C. Hopkins, who died April 23, 1976.

A Ripley County resident for several years, she was a member of Belleview Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two grandchildren, Ernest Reeves,  Jefferson City, and Joyce Gilliam, Smithville, Texas ; six great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Edwards Funeral Home, Doniphan. The Rev. James Gore will officiate. Burial will be in Belleview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

ZANEIS

Margaret Gail Zaneis, 86, Versailles, died June 21, 2000, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.

She was born Jan. 4, 1914, in Linn Creek, a daughter of Albert and Ada Monoma Green Francis. She was married in 1936 to Clyde Anderson Gerhart, who died in 1966. She was married Aug. 4, 1983, to Jack Zaneis, who survives at the home.

A cashier at Gerbes Grocery Store in Versailles, she was a member of First Christian Church, Versailles.

Other survivors include: two sons, Forrest Gail Gerhart and Warren Gerhart, both of Gravois Mills; two daughters, Karen Clarke, Gravois Mills, and Rita Rice, Kansas City; two stepsons, Melvin Gerhart, California, and Dean Mark Zaneis, Lady Lake, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Dianna Jean Zaneis, McHenry, Ill.; three sisters, Ruth Crane, California, and Josephine Shepp and Mary McLennan, both of Versailles; eight grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. Jim Kruse, Jim Randall and John Wagner will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church.

DUCKWORTH

Ella Mae Duckworth, 97, Versailles, died June 22, 2000, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.

She was born June 5, 1903, in Collins, Miss., a daughter of Sam and Nora McRaney McDonald. She was married to Bush H. Duckworth, who died in 1964.

A homemaker, she was a member of First Baptist Church, Versailles.

Other survivors include eight grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, the Rev. George Duckworth; one daughter, Elanor N. "Polly" Straub; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan. The Rev. Dan Duckworth will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.

OWENS

Stanley Owens, 79, Linn, died June 22, 2000, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

He was born Dec. 22, 1920, in Sac City, Iowa, a son of Louis I. and Mammie Bruder Owens.

An area resident for most of his life, he worked in the general construction business. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW.

Survivors include two sisters, Eileen Etter and Valmeta Lantere, both of St. Charles.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn. The Rev. Tony Townley will officiate. Burial will be in Linn Memorial Park, Linn.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

ROBERTSON

E. Rosey Robertson, 96, Columbia, formerly of  Jefferson City, died June 23, 2000, at Lenoir Residential Care Facility, Columbia.

He was born Dec. 22, 1903, in Meta, a son of Risden and Lilly Belshe Robertson. He was married Sept. 16, 1925, in  Jefferson City, to Elsie Shanks, who died in 1985. He was married Aug. 4, 1986, in Columbia, to Ruby Shelton, who survives at the home.

He was a businessman in  Jefferson City for 40 years with Robertson Wholesale Auto Parts and Robertson Wholesale Electronic Supply. He also was with Robertson Marina and Yacht Haven, Lake Ozark.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Darlene Robertson Johnson, Columbia; one brother, K.K. Robertson, Kansas City; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia. The Rev. John Yonker will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Columbia.

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to the Fellowship of John, in care of Lenoir Retirement Community, 3612 Lenoir St., Columbia, Mo. 65201; or to First Christian Church, 101 N. Tenth St., Columbia, Mo. 65201.

PENDLETON

Harvey O. Pendleton, 72, Stover, died June 21, 2000, at his home.

He was born Aug. 30, 1927, in Stover, a son of Harvey O. and Jeanette Wingard Pendleton.

He was a construction worker and also worked for Bob Thompson Concrete Construction. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include: one son, Harvey O. Pendleton III, Stover; one daughter, Donna Ridpath, St. Joseph; two brothers, Wilse Pendleton and John Pendleton, both of St. Joseph; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover. He was cremated.

LANGKOP

Marian M. Langkop, 82, California, died June 22, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Wood, S.D., a daughter of Fred and Eathel Johnson Matousek. She was married Nov. 16, 1939, in  Jefferson City, to John H. Langkop Jr., who died July 12, 1999.

She worked for the University of Missouri Extension center beginning in 1961, and later with Soil and Water Conservation until her retirement in 1999.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in California. She was also a member of the ladies aide and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Sunshine Extension Club and the Sunnyside WPFA.

Survivors include: one son, Jim D. Langkop, California; one daughter, Linda Imhoff, California; two sisters, Faye Fleishbein and Gladys Vance, both of Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Peter Kurowski will officiate. Burial will be in California City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services.

Memorials are suggested to the Missouri 4-H Foundation, 212 Whitten Hall, University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. 65211; or to St. Paul's Lutheran Radio Ministry, c/o St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 207 N. Owen, California, Mo. 65018.

SCHMITZ

Peter Kenneth Schmitz, 73,  Jefferson City, died June 22, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born June 27, 1926, in St. Louis, a son of Peter H. and Mary Boettcher Schmitz. He was married May 28, 1949, in St. Louis, to Mary Ann Dunn Thomann, who survives at the home.

He worked for 45 years at International Shoe Company, retiring as assistant superintendent. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and American Legion Post 5.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Jeannie Kauffman, Olathe, Kan.; two sons, Michael S. Schmitz,  Jefferson City, and Keith P. Schmitz, New Bloomfield; one brother, Stanley T. Schmitz, Florissant; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy M. Tatro will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to the Friendship House of Hospice of  Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri, 601 E. High St.,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.

GRUPE

Viola M. Grupe, 89, Stover, died June 23, 2000, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.

She was born March 21, 1911, in Stover, a daughter of Henry and Sena Ehlers Monsees. She was married April 16, 1931, to Alfred C. Grupe, who died Dec. 18, 1993.

A homemaker, she was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Stover.

Survivors include one brother, Edwill Monsees, Stover.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover. The Rev. Roger Fischer will officiate. Burial will be in Stover Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to Faith Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
